I'm thinking of flashing a new ROM today...i dnt know where to start...i read flashing ROM's for dummies and guess wat guys...im must be think as horse ****...i dnt understand it i have pretty standard device i installed loads cab files ect got few thing from vista etc...now sadly i dnt know wat do
Now i thought maybe a video from you tube a guide how to flash a ROM 4 beginners (or ppl that r think as ****)

the guide is your best bet, just read, create your own checklist and walk through the process a couple of times before doing it for real. if you maintain your current attitude/perspective you'll make it difficult without trying. take a positive view, be confident and you'll get there! there have been plenty of others (including me) who have been in your shoes. take your time and you'll be fine. if you choose to take the HardSPL route, then once you've finished HardSPL you can flash the latest WM 6.5 ROMS. these 2 links will get you started: HD Dummies Flashing Guide | Pic of Bootloader with HardSPL.

Just been given a Vodafone u.k 1605(hermes),the digitiser was trashed so ive soldered in a new one.I would love to install Black 2.5 for T-moblie u.k which is my sim network.Do i just install this to the phone or do i have to take any other action first?The phone is unlocked.
Sorry,i imagine this has been asked many times before.I have seen mention of Hard spl's and other thing a ma jigs lol.

Do not "just install" ... ideally read the wiki first, and then follow instructions on Mrvanx's Guide. Upgrading is pretty painless and easy ... and the guide should keep you on track.
A ha ,i knew there would be more to it than that,not sure what a wiki is lol but looks like im gonna find out.
If someone could just give me a list of things to do before hand ill do the appropriate reading
i.e 1 upgrade the boot loader etc etc ,please dont go into detail a mere shopping list will do.

My subjective pick is Black 3.01 ...
Remember to go "Hard SPL" first, and that you need to upgrade your radio seperately.
Right just updated the Hard splv7 and my radio to 1.41.00.10,ive also flashed with black 3.0. Now i cant seem to get a wireless link to work or turn on my bluetooth?
Also does this mean i can flash any cooked rom?

generally speaking, yes.... but be sure you are flashing OS only (unless you want to upgrade your radio too). Most folks are putting out OS only upgrades now, but some replace the radio. once you are hard spl and no longer a flashing virgin, it becomes second nature.

You're the one that have to see the ROMs availlable and choose one that you like. For one people one is the best, but for other is other... Because all ROMs have different softwares, tweaks, etc...
Just follow the link that i gave and see wich ROMs are availlable.

The idea is
1. Read the forum ….a lot first get an idea on what’s what and how it works!
2. Go to the relevant sub section for your phone.
3. Read that forum a lot.
4. Search for the how to update my phone guide via the search function.
5. Follow the guide and then if your not certain or stuck THEN post a help request.
I think you will find that there are many different versions of the rom and you will want try the different ones yourself and see what works for you.
As a rule what one person thinks is the best thing since sliced bread the next will think is a pile of manure you ultimately will need to make a decision and once you have followed a guide (and I do mean follow to the letter) and seen how easy it is to do you will feel less worry about the process.

CAN ANYONE FIND THIS ROM 1.12.404.1 NLD?
iv been helping a friend for a week now and still no luck, its like it doesnt exist, although, i did find the rom on one site but gotta pay for the download.
he also mentioned ''Gold Card'' im not sure what this is but if anyone knows what to do and wouldnt mind giving me a link or step by step tutorial, this would be a great help.lol

as far as i know, a goldcard is nothing more then the correct rom stored on a SD-card.. it was a way for a lot of commercial people to generate money for bricked devices.

so the only chance to get my friends artemis back to life is with the official rom..
theres plenty of people on this site, (most helpfull, some not lol) but someone out there must have the official nld rom!

You can unbrick the phone using a sd card of max. 2 Gb. Search on the formum, i don't remember the exact steps. Basicly, put the rom you want to use on the root of the card, enter the flashmode with the rainbow collored screen and choose the card. Then the flash starts. The reason you write " I need help from you guys to make my HD looks great " Mean you DONT KNOW OR READ ANYTHING because if you read you will know there is not such as magic to install something and voala... About how to Flash a ROM i already write to one "new" user and will not write the same anymore you can read it and flash a new ROM

Here i wrote Guide step by step very simple im sure you don`t read this.. then dont say you read alot and almost everything.. if you use the search on this forum and wrote how to flash ROM will see alot of Post explaining very well.
Also if you read will know that depends from what kind of ROM u use do your device is unlocked and what manila version and thousend other stuffs you cannot write just like that... i cant install cabs.. What kind of cabs? where? what error giving you?

it's always good to see new people coming in and I guess I need not to talk about what tsalta has said. But here's some links that I think would be helpful for you.
To change your SPL/Radio/Custom ROM/etc, this is the best tutorial to read though: Digital Outcast's Dummy Guide
As for your .cab files that do not work, normally it's because of compatibility issue, or the place where you install the cab files (phone/storage card), or maybe the cert (sdkcerts.cab) issue, if you're on a stock rom.
to make your phone look great, normally I'll go through the thread Post Your HD Screens. A lot users showed cool stuffs of their Blackstone and if you like them, you can just ask them to share, and normally they will.

Well, after being without one for almost 5 years ... I have bought a second hand HTC Universal, mine to be specific is the O2 XDA Exec.
Being as it was second hand all I got was the handset and USB cable, no discs, box ... nothing! I am really trying to down-grade the ROM on it. It currently has WM6.5 .. and from what I can tell it is defo a cooked ROM from somewhere. I want to down grade to WM5 so it is faster and I dont need any of this fancy stuff as I will be using it for home automation.
I have done ROM upgrading before on my old HTC Touch HD ... so can anyone point me in the right direction please

Please please can someone help me here. My HTC Uni is now a brick, stuck in bootloader.
I have done the task 28 55aa and from what I can tell, it did what it was meant to. I cant seem to upgrade any roms tho, I have downloaded 5 so far and all have failed saying it cannot find RAPI.dll ... can anyone help me please?

OK, I bought this of eBay and it came with a really bad home cooked Rom that was really slow and laggy. I wanted to downgrade it down to WM5 again so I picked a ROM of here and set about updating. At this point I need to mention this, I cant remember the name of the rom BUT I DO NOT BLAME the cooker of the rom, any rom cookers or xda developers for the problems I now have ... i did this fully knowing i am doing it at my own risk!
So, I didnt do alot off research and found out later that you need a special driver to flash in windows 7. Since trying to flash my HTC it has been stuck in boot loader. I have tried the task 28 55aa, tried upgrading just the radios and just the roms. Hard reset .. all that I can think and no luck at all.
Some of the roms come wtih "MaUpgradeUt_noID" this works, but the "ROMUpgradeUt" doesnt as it says the RAPI.dll file is missing.
Please can someone help me!
