I'd like to buy HTC Touch Pro2 (unlocked version), but I heard that it doesn't support 3G in USA? is that right? and why?
Will they release an unlocked version supports 3G in USA?
Does it support 3G in Asia and Europe?
What's exactly the differences between 2G and 3G?
P.S. I have an AT&T SIM card.
I know my questions are many but I'm so confused.
I'll be so appreciated.

If by "unlocked" you mean the original/intenational version, then no, it won't connect to 3G in the USA. The radio frequency of the hardware is wrong, and since it is hardware it can't be fixed by a software tweak. I think it's fine on 3G in Europe and maybe Asia (but I'm not an expert). There's lots of info out there if you look.
It will work fine on GSM (T-Mobile/ATT, for example) 2/2.5 bands in the USA and most/lots/all of Europe, Asia, etc.
To use ATT 3G you will need an ATT-branded TP2.
Basically, 3G is faster -- faster data transmission -- than 2G. Both terms refer to data speeds ranges, not specific technologies.
You should look at the Australian Telstra Touch Pro 2 T7381 it has been reported to work on ATT US and Rogers/FIDO Canada.
Why not wait one more week and it will be available in the USA from ATT. I give it then about 2 days before they start to show up on Ebay. These phones will be guaranteed to work on the North American frequencies.
That will be my strategy.

Yes, it's.
If you want one that specifically supports 3G in the US, your choices are the AT&T Tilt 2, or the T-Mobile Touch Pro 2.
In the US, the 3G bands unfortunately are different than the rest of the world:
Europe/Asia 3G : 2100
USA (AT&T) 3G: 850/1900
USA (TMo) 3G: 1700/2100 -- TMO uses one for up and the other for down, so you can't use a Euro/Asian 3G phone and get full speed on USA TMO
But the nice thing is that the 2 US carrier phones also throw in 2100 on the TP2, so it'll work overseas as well.

I have an Unlocked TMo Branded Touch Pro 2 and am currently using it on AT&T.
Are there any settings I need to input in order to get 3G? For whatever reason, I'm only getting EDGE (or at least that's the icon I receive on the winmo taskbar).

Video call partly works if you have the dialer that supports video call. I have a Tilt with video call dialer. When I went to Hong Kong I was able to use video call but only for receiving the video, not sending.

Unfortunately it's a hardware thing. The TMO ones specifically have hardware for 1700/2100 3G, so software tweaks won't do a thing on AT&T. Sorry!

From a speed/band perspective, I believe the US versions work fine on the UK 2100 bands. However, as mentioned before there are 2 other items:
(1) the dialer has to support it (which it looks like you can obtain) so that's ok on a software end; BUT
(2) The US versions of the phone don't have the front camera in the upper right hand corner. Since US carriers really haven't gotten around to promoting 3G and video calling, most US carrier phones don't have the front camera needed for video conferencing.
In all, that is a big requirement, I would recommend sticking with an unbranded or at least Euro-carrier unlocked branded TP2.

THANKS for the reply... I didnt know that US TP2's dont have front camera. thats suck.. the only reason i want to get the tp2 from US is because i know someone can hook me up with the ETF for less. well im just gonna wait till april for my upgrade.. free phone always makes me happy!

Well thanks to kaschenberg over in the Aria forum...
As it turned out the Plemix phone in the link above was no good to AT&T. So I called Plemix customer service, spoke with Paul and they canceled the order. WOW! They are in Hong Kong. Talk about service.
So now ordered the phone at this link

2G Network: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900

on a related note, the version that suppose to work with AT&T is A7275 and other is A7272. I unfortunately have the latter.
Are the difference physical or can it (A7272) be rooted and flashed with a different rom that allows for the US AT&T 3G?

The band frequencies are factory set and cannot be altered, so your stuck with what you've got
then it's futile to try and mess with the roms or the radio then. guess I gotta get a 7275................
Hi, I was just wondering if the HTC One X (Unlocked) be used with T-Mobile, because I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy S2 (Hercules) and the lack of ICS is pi**ing me off, I miss my HTC Sensation in which I had ICS months ago; I don't think T-mobile is planning on releasing ICS for the SGS2 somewhere near the future.
For now I'm stuck between Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note and The HTC One X but I don't know if either of the will work on T-Mobile . Can someone please let me know. Sorry for my english.

The specs for the ONE X are : WCDMA/HSPA 850/900/1900//2100 MHz
And GPRS/EDGE/GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
From this information I am unsure whether it will be fully compatible. These numbers look more like an ATT phone than tmobile. Im assuming it will work with edge but 4g is most likely not going to happen. I ordered a one x and intend on using it with t-mobile, so it would definately be beneficial if someone was confident it would work on tmobiles network. Hopefully someone will have one and test it on tmobiles network before I get mine in the mail.

420kushking is correct regarding the spectrums.
However, there are reports that T-Mo iPhone users were able to use 3G on T-Mo network. I've also checked T-Mo spectrums, PCS 1900 mhz 3G spectrums are available on T-Mo on areas in the US. If you're planning to use T-Mo and plan to get the phone, you should probably call T-Mo to see if 1900 mhz is available in the areas you'll be going to most often and make sure that you'll be able to get 3G coverage on your phone. If you ask if the phone will work on T-Mo, the customer service will probably say something like the phone will work on T-Mo but they can't guarantee if the 3G will work on the phone. So it's better to ask of the spectrum is available instead, that might be a safer bet. Even tho the spectrum may be available, but that probably doesn't mean that the 3G will definitely work. These are just some information for you to consider.
I'm also planning to get a One X to use on T-Mo, and hopefully what they say about the 1900 mhz spectrums are true. I couldn't test the 1900 mhz spectrum on my Desire HD because of the 900/2100 bands on the phone.

Well yeah it will work but will it be able to utilize the 4g network I think is the question here. I have already pre-ordered the one X unlocked version and I do have tmobile. I will be doing extensive data speed tests when I get the One X, but I do not expect anything better than an EDGE connection on T-mobiles network.
To me this is a big deal because if the One X does not work with 4g on tmobile, It also wont work with 4g on ATT because its the Tegra 3 version, and if you have been looking at specs the tegra 3 unlocked version does NOT support LTE... If I dont get the speeds I need then it will end up on eBay.

The one x will get 4G speeds on att. "4G" as in HSPA+ not LTE. So you'll get decent speeds, just not LTE speeds. I Wouldn't bet that the one x will work on tmobiles 3G networks let alone their 4G networks. Edge seems about right.
Thanks to you all for answering my question, I was about to pre-order it on when I read that it was "Sim-free", what does that mean, does that mean it has no sim card slot. Im kinda confused here.
Never mind after a bit or reading I've learned that sim-free means it comes with ail, but it does has sim card slot.

SIM-Free means you can use whatever network uses GSM
I don't think the One X will support Tmobile AWS band. The only hope for this phone to work on Tmobile 3G/4G is if Tmobile has switched 3G/4G over to the 1900 band in your area.

Realistically? No, since it doesn't support the AWS Band (1700 AND 2100).
However, if you live in an area when TMo has deployed the 1900 band, it will work. If you live in that area, that is.
Also, "sim-free" means it comes straight from the manufacturer, without a carrier's SIM card.

I was looking for the specs at gsmarena and I found that the at&t versions supports the following bands:
2G Network
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network
HSDPA 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network
LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 1700 / 2100
I'm not too familiar with this subject but I believe that T-Mobile uses 1700/2100mhz, does this means the At&t is a true candidate for T-Mobile Compatibility?

I think the version of the phone you would be referring to is the one X att version, It has a dual core qualcomm s4 krait instead of the tegra 3 processor. There is some debate over the performance of the krait vs the tegra 3. I know from a benchmark video that the tegra 3 outperformed the transformer prime. I think the krait outperformed the tegra 3 though by a bit. I ordered the unlocked one x that has the tegra 3 so it doesnt support tmobile 4g or att 4g based off the specs. When I get it I will test on both networks. My concern is that since I ordered the tegra 3 version, it wont be supported by ATT 4g OR t-mobile 4g. We will see I guess.

One X will support AT&T on 3G/4G for HSPA+ but not LTE. AT&T uses 850 and 1900 band for 3G/4G on HSPA+.

Ok good to know. Does anyone have information about speed tests on their regular 4g network? Is the LTE that much faster to where it would be worth it to invest in an LTE based less storage model? I have both att and T-mobile but I think the 4g on t-mobile is faster based off my speed tests. I do NOT have an LTE device to test the differences. I am in Los Angeles/ Orange county area.
I'm considering switching to T-Mobile with an unlocked One X, and appreciate the info in this thread. One question: some are saying it will work with HSPA+ on ATT. Will the phone roam to ATT if it sees an EDGE network in range, or will I be stuck with the lower speed? Oh, and does TMob charge for data roaming to ATT HSPA+?

I'm highly considering to switch from my HTC Desire HD on Telus to Videotron and a new phone. I was waiting for the release of the Galaxy S III which comes out on the 20th. But now I came across the One X and I would prefer to have that one instead. Currently, in Canada, we can only buy the HTC One X on Rogers, but I was wondering if it would be possible to unlock it and make it work with Videotron?
You can buy the unlocked int version, since videotron don't have LTE anyway.
Yeah, but I'm worried about frequency compatibility issues. I think that Videotron uses the 1700 & 2100 Mhz frequency for their 3G, but the international version just has the 1900 & 2100 Mhz ones (according to gsmarena.com -> gsmarena.com/htc_one_x-4320.php). Should I instead buy the one from Rogers (gsmarena.com/htc_one_x_at&t-4614.php), which is the same as the AT&T, and unlock it?
I'm very familiar with rooting and flashing ROMs and Radios, but I never unlocked a phone to use it on another network than its original one.

I think it depends on which carrier you're with as they run on different frequencies. Call the carriers up and check whether your phone can pick up their frequencies. I'm pretty sure quad band phones can work pretty much anywhere, but it's always worth checking!

If you are talking about Quad-GSM..then yes the One X will work in Australia (my HOX is from Malaysia and works here no problems) and pretty much anywhere else in the world.
This is the GSM bands that the One X has (info from GSMArena)
2G Network: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network: HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
If you are asking about LTE/4G? the One X is not 4G compatible...you will need to get the One XL for that (The One X I beleive couldn't run 4G due to hard incompatiblies which is why the OneXL runs a dual-core krait processor and Adreno 225 graphics but still has the same goodies as the One X) Also for us...you can only get it on Telstra (since Vodafone and Optus haven't begun rolling out their 4G network yet.
