Email Messaging on HTC Touch Pro2 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi All,
Say, if i do emails on my tp2, i send the email out and forget to bcc me, i forward the email to myself separately. I only get my signature without the full contents. Wondering if this is normal??
Is there any way we can configure the client or alternate programs to like pull emails like from 9am to 6pm instead?
Kinda like Nokia's default email client on e71s, i can choose when and how to download emails. And at the same time have an option to automatically send me a copy of the emails.
Thanks alot in advance or sorry if this is a stupid question..
EDIT: Is this a known thingy? Will wm 6.5 be addressing this issue?

1. When I forward mails, the entire message is included. I can think of 2 reasons why this isn't working for you.
a. You use Windows Live email (ie Hotmail) and you didn't toggle on the setting in Windows Live to include original message when replying/forwarding.
b. You've only set to download the email headers. You need to download the full message from the server before forwarding to include the whole message.
2. You can schedule your email push/pull between specific times of the day only if you use Windows Live or Exchange.
I know many people like to bcc themselves on all emails but you can just check the Sent folder as an alternative. I guess it's just a matter of preference...

My work email is primative pop3/smtp.. I'm using the default messaging on the htc touchflo3d, not the windows live.
Hmm.. i'll try the down entire message thingy..

Hi,
Have tried to use download entire email messages... still the same.. when i forward the email out.. it goes until only my signature.. does not forward the entire message

anymore ideas??

I was wondering that perhaps it may be because you're connecting via POP3. But this doesn't appear to be the case. I just tested setting up my Gmail account via POP3 and I can forward messages just fine.
After you tap on "Forward", you should be taken to a compose screen where you type in your recipients. If you scroll down, do you see the original message in full?

thats the thing... i can see the whole email in full.. theres teh "edit original sender's message" thingy...
but when i actually click send.. it only send out the portion i typed.. -.-
I have sent my phone in for service b4, updated software, hard reset... all the same... maybe i'll try my gmail and update again..

What happens if you tap the part thatt enables you to edit the original message before you send?

same ; ;
10chars

tested with Gmail and yahoo... by configuration, both uses imap on the client..
tested with my other personal email from isp... think i found a pattern..
If i forward from inbox.. everything ok..
If i forward from sent items... only what i type is sent...
i didnt test on imap.. deleted my account.. anyone got any observations??

any help??!?? ; ;

Gmail - pop3 dissapearing messages on send/receive

Hi all,
Just set my XDA2s up for my gmail acount.
All is fine, I can receive and send mail no problems.
However, if I have a message in my inbox which I have read it gets deleted on the next send/receive.
I cannot find a way to tell it to keep my messages until I delete them manually...
Any ideas?
Rich
I have exactly the same problem.
Anyone knows?
gmail.
Me go try.
Never thought of using gmail on the qtek.
same here... i thought it was only with imate jams...
I don't have that problem here.
I only see option to remove deleted items manually or automatic.
its under storage.
Hi,
That option purely manages what to do with items marked as deleted. Not those in the inbox.
I am glad others see the problem. How do you have things set up?
I set my gmail not to archive or delete the items I download and read. However, I can't help but think that this is a setting with the XDA2s.
R
There's no thing wrong with your XDA IIs or Gmail.
Go into the settings of your gmail account on your XDA IIs. At the "Server information" screen, there is an "Options" button. Go into the Options screen. On the last screen,
* If you choose "Get full copy of messages" your messages will be deleted off of the server once you do a "Send/Receive Mail" This is common for all POP3 servers. Gmail has a special option in the "Mail Settings/Forwarding and POP" for you to "Keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox" even if you do a "Get a full copy of messages" Other POP3 servers don't have this special option so emails will get deleted. To keep it consistent with other POP3 servers in case you have multiple email accounts, just select "Trash Gmail's copy"
* If you choose "Get message headers only" and include 999K (32K is about a screen full of email) you will still see most of the body of your emails once you do a "Send/Receive Mail" but your emails won't be deleted off of the server. Now... if you realize some of the emails are SPAM and you want do delete them off of the server to save yourself from downloading those SPAM mails again to your desktop email software, you can click on the SPAM mail and "Mark for download". Then do a "Send/Receive Mail". Those emails that are marked for download will then be downloaded to your XDA IIs and deleted from the server. On your XDA IIs, you can just delete them once the "Send/Receive Mail" is done.
Hope it helps.
Does anyone kn ow why I keep getting a message "Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure that you are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again". I'm sure that my settings are correct. I can send emails OK - it's just will not down.load them. Any ideas?
Hi Suntingwong,
This does not appear to help unfortunately. The problem is not what happes to the mail at the gmail side but at the ppc side. No matter what I do, once I have read (or downloaded and read) a mail in my XDA2s's inbox it is removed from the XDA2s's inbox at the next send/receive. It is not sent to the deleted folder - just removed. I am after a way to keep it in the inbox as read, as you would logically expect it to be.
Rich
I can confirm the above.
It seems that each time you go over the send and recive you inbox is reset to empty. Thus what you had downloaded (as header or full text), and read just goes into never never land.
I am not sure what the differnese is betwwen the 2 icons at the bottom, both push your mail.
I have been lost on this one for a long time, adding to it I have also been lost on how I can sync my pop.mail with my outlook pst for the sent items and inbox.
Seems like the sysnc only goes Between the default mal box, which meens I CANT configer as pop. So I cant send unless I am attached to the desktop over that mail box.
Its concept that I don't understand and have yet to find a soulution.

Sorry I misread your question. I was thinking you were bothered by emails getting deleted from gmail whenever they got downloaded to your PPC.
I only use my PPC to quickly screen mails so this is not a problem for me. As long as I don't download emails from the server (set just to get header and 999K of body) then my emails won't get deleted from the server nor the PPC until I downloaded them to my desktop email software or when I delete them manually from my PPC.
Now if you want to keep your emails in your PPC no matter what happened to them on the server (got downloaded, etc...) You can mark your emails as "not read" whenever you're done reading them. That will keep them from being removed from your PPC. It's an arduous thing to do but it seems to be the only way...
Hope it helps
There has got to be a better solution than that.
I have the same problem as well, and would really like to see a fix.
You must enter in the settings of your account (upper right corner) and go to "Forwarding and POP". There you have this options:
1. Status: POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since 1/1/05
Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)
Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on
Disable POP
Yoy must select the first option (Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)), click on "Save changes" and now the messages dont disappear when you read it in your PPC.
Saludos.
I was sad to find out that the IIs only retains 6 email accounts. It seams that this problem isn't only inharent to gmail account. I have configured 3 of my own domain pop3 accounts. When I download the email to my IIs, the emails on my IIs disappear the next time I send/receive.
segoz
Look I feel like a real dumb a**.
I cant work your fix as I cant find that setting. Top right is a drop down for me (From, recived date, subject.)
In accounts I get 1/4 and see nothing on the next 3 pages that does anything for me.
Were should I be as it seems its not in messaging.
This is my observation... wondering if any body sees the same thing.
1. If the message is no longer on the server, upon the next Send/Receive, the message is removed from PPC.
2. If a message is not read on PPC, it will not be removed from PPC no matter if it is still on the server or not
2. There is no universal rules as to when a message is removed from the server when it is accessed via POP3
3. For gmail, this is configurable (Mail Settings>Forwarding and POP>[keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox, archive Gmail's copy, trash Gmai's copy])
4. For adelphia.net, a message is not removed no matter if only header or full body is downloaded. A message is only removed when accessed via desktop email software (if the software is NOT configured to leave a copy of the email on ther server)
5. For netzero.net, a messsage is not removed from the server if only header is downloaded to PPC. A message is removed from the server if full body is downloaded PPC.
So if one wants to keep a copy of gmail's email on the PPC, one has to set up Gmail to "keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox" in the "Forwarding and POP" setting.
One also must configure desktop email to keep a copy on the server. For Outlook 2003, this setting is found on the "Advanced" tab right under the POP3/SMTP port settings.
That's some good observations sumtingwong. I could care less about gmail since all junk go through gmail. I'm more conserned about my domain pop accounts' email disappearing from my PPC. I will leave the messages on all 3 dedicated servers for the next few day to test your observations. stay tuned..
ps. damn this site is crawling. is it getting DDoS'ed?
Site's been crawling for days now........new servers?
Anyway - i can find no way to stop the mails dissapearing on the PPC. So, I have worked round it by creating a 'keep' folder and I simply move the mails I want to that after reading them. Not ideal but it works for now.
R
I left the messages on my mail servers while picking up full email from my PPC mail client. As sumtingwong posted, the mail doesn't disappear from my PPC anymore. I have successfuly sent received mail the past 3 days on 3 different email servers. All email are still on my PPC. I will delete all mail from the servers and see if the emails remain on the PPC.
ps. I pick up mail on both my own email servers and gmail.
I'm starting to get annoyed. Just recently, my Gmail emails are disappearing. But my emails from my own email servers are still on my PPC which doesn't disappear like the Gamil emails. The most anoying thing is, when I delete the emails from my PPC that belongs to my email servers, the same emails are redownloaded again. It's like the PPC email client doen't know the emails have already been downloaded. This doesn't happen to my other phones with email clients.
WTF, are there any other email clients we can use instead of the built in POS Outlook?

Exchange SP2 Push Mail Providers

Hi all,
Just upgrading to new Imate ROM. Now it seems that Universal has push email can anyone recommend an Exchange SP2 direct push email provider for consumer market? Many thanks for taking the time to read.
Tom C (UK)
The onlyone I know for the moment is 4smartphone.net - if you find any better (means cheaper), let me know!
Some report are saying 4smartphone.net takes 30 seconds to push an email to your device, rather than 5 seconds or less that others are getting via their own exchange servers.
Its worth asking these website exchange account providers what frequency they run the push 'heartbeat' at - you might end up with a big bill if they haven't set the Exchange/firewall to a reasonable rate.
Device SMS Address
I've just signed up for the 4smartphone trial, but Orange are completely unable to tell me what the Device SMS Address should be. They don't have a clue what this is about. I was guessing [email protected], but that doesn't work.
Does anyone know what it should be?

If you're using the aku2 rom then you don't need an sms address. The MSFP/Direct Push works via http not sms. Waaaaaay better!
Settings
I think it is that version. I'm using the new ROM version 1.30.68 with Radio version 1.09.00. I can see the push mail icon in Comm Manager, but it's greyed out, so I'm not sure where to go from here. The 4smartphone support pages are not exactly informative.
Can anyone point me to a website about setting this up? My searches are not getting me far.
Thanks.

Got it working
Just need to ignore the instructions on the 4smartphone web page about SMS Device.
From the moment of clicking send on my Desktop to the email arriving in my device inbox the time taken is about 25 secs, which includes gmail forwarding it to the 4smartphone address.
4smartPhone Help!!
Glad to hear that you got the SMS problem sorted which help me out too. I can now sync with contacts but what do I do for the email. Do I have to set an account up on WM5 which I have done but there is no push coming through I have to manually send and receive. Any help much welcome. Thanks
You need to set it up using active sync in WM5. You will need to add a server (secure.4smartphone.net) then your username, password and domain (4smartphone). It will then sync using the GPRS connection.
I've got Outlook desktop, Outlook Web Access (with smartphone) and Outlook on WM5 all synchronizing nicely. My only problem is that I have three pop email account on Outlook desktop, but 4smartphone only seems to work with one.
And just to add the obvious, you need to have email being forward to the address that you got @smartphone.com

4Smartphone.net are US based, where email to SMS is very common. It took the Americans about three years to wake up to the fact that everyone else in the world has to pay for SMS messages to be sent - hence the new push technology from Microsoft.
What they are referring to is a feature known as AUTD (always up to date) which is how Exchange used to do push. A specially created SMS text message would be sent to your phone which told your device that something had changed, and it would then do a sync.
I am told that it worked very well - it is just unfortunate that for everyone outside of the USA the feature would cost many thousands to run for each single user.

4smartPhone Help!!
Thanks for your quick reply. I have forwarding set up and all the correct settings for Active Syn in WM5, UserName, Password, Domain and Save password. Under the Options in ActiveSync there now appears and Exchange Server with the following selected Contacts, Calendar, E-Mail, Tasks.
I'm still not sure though what to do with the email all the above are syncing via 3g. In the Messages section do I have to create a new account and if so what are the correct setting for this?
Thanks again for the help and suggestions.
Tom C.
When it syncs with the Exchange server it automatically goes into the Outlook email inbox on your device. If you've previously been synchronizing with the desktop it wipes out those emails, which is why I'm trying the Pro version of 4smartphone and synchronising all three.
Have you checked if test emails you are sending are reaching the 4smartphone email address? You can do that by logging into the web version of Outlook via the link on their website.
Also the push email icon in Com Manager should now be working and it will say Microsoft DirectPush at the top.
That may not be much help, but I am also completely new to this.
4smartPhone
Once again thanks for the help. Just about got it sorted as I read your reply. The missing link for me is that the you don't have to sent up a seperate email account I was looking for server addresses extra but all those go under ActiveSync. Getting mails fine now but not too sure yet about sending them. Are yours sending fine or is there a delay?
Thanks again, you are still once step ahead of me
I've got Push email working with mail2web.com and have a few questions:
I've gota couple of email addresses that won't forward to my mail2web email account and I don't really want to use mail2web's harvester as that only checks once every hour, so I was wondering whether it's possible to set Outlook on my PC to synce with my mail2web account so that my PC will download emails from my POP accounts, then upload them to my mail2web server, which then pushes the emails to my phone?
Or is there a simpler way to do it?
Also, when I reply to an email that's been pushed the reply address is always my mail2web email address, which is a pain as it confuses people and gets rejected by my email groups. How can I change the default address that my replies go from, or even just change them on each email as I reply?
I'm sure I'll have more questions soon.! Cheers.

Push e-mail.

Hi,
Firstly, this is all new to me so please be gentle!
I have read varies threads about "push email" on here and feel totally confussed about the whole thing.......so felt it was best to explain my "vision" of what I want and find out from one of you guy's if its remotely possible or just stupid....so here goes.
I would like my Orbit/e-mail account set up in a way that would allow the following.
e-mail would be "pushed" to me via outlook on my Xda.
My home/work PC would not be any part of this process.
When e-mail is "pushed" to me it would only show the header and give me the choice of viewing the attachment at a later stage if i wish. This would reduce potential data cost.
I don't mind if it means changing my email address (currently with UKonline).
My work colleagues could send mail to my "PDA email addess" and it would then be "pushed" automatically to my PDA without me doing anything.
The process would be free/cheap.
.........if this is possible would someone PLEASE give me step by step instructions of the process and specific software that I should use.
Many thanks in anticipation
Rob.
I thought I'd answer this as I've tried a few methods.
basically, here's what I did,
I got an application from a company called qore. This is a piece of software that triggers a send/receive on receipt of a certain text message.
I'm with T-Mobile, so they have a system that sends you a text message when an email is sent to <your number>@t-mobile.uk.net. If I remember correctly you get the senders details and some of the message.
So, I set my outlook at home to automatically forward all my emails to <number>@t-mobile.uk.net.
The mail application from qore, intercepts the text message I get from T-mobile (there's an option where you tell it to look out for certain characters in the text message) and then triggers your unit to do a send/receive (over GPRS) and retrieve your email.
All this is done without your knowledge. i.e. you don't get an indication of the text message, you just get an indication that your mail has been received (if you have set up notification of this).
All other text messages are received as normal. so the qore program only filters out the specific one you tell it to.
sadly, when I tried it, it was a little hard to set-up as it kept intercepting random messages. maybe they have improved on it by now.
I think what you need is an account here:
http://live.mail2web.com/
basically you can point your "pda email" account to an address with mail2web and it should get pushed to your pda
I tried it out and it worked, but I dont really need it so haven't used it since. It does mean you will use some extra GPRS as I believe it maintains a "heartbeat" connection ( I think that was how someone explained it !!)

Push Email
1. Register a Hotmail account and use the included Microsoft Pocket MSN software it works!
2. Register an account with http://www.consilient.com it's free and allows push mail from many services...
Hope this helps..

Getting a text message every time a new Earthlink email arrives

Hey guys, I'm hoping someone here might have had this problem...
Okay, I had this problem with WM5 too but somewhow managaed to get it to stop. No such luck with WM6. Here's the problem:
I set up my Earthlink email via the "New E-mail Account..." funtion. Works fine. However, now whenever I get a new email at my earthlink address I _automatically_ get a text message along the lines of this:
701
F: "Palm Store Newsletter"<Palm_
S: Through Sunday May 20, 2007 -P
Sent to <my address>
ID:345543456:1
In my email settings I've set it to Automatic Send/Receive to _Manual_. I can't think of anything else that would be causing my Dash to retrieve email headers like this. But its driving me nuts! because I'm getting spammed by text messages all day.
I've tried reconfiguring my email, rebooting, doublechecking my settings. Gah!
Go to your tmobile account on line go toyur email and disable alerts they are not supported on WM6 -rather they expert you to go to an exchange server
Wow - that was it. I had no idea TMobile would go that far to charge me for text messages Thank you muchly ljcaz!
aol email
i have a similar problem except my problem is i have aol set up in my email on WM6. on WM5 i was able to check email and it would stay on server. the new WM6 for some reasone even delets it off ther server once i delete on my phone. i have the setting on the phone set to leave on server but i dont know how to fix the problem any ideas

problem with email in tf3d...please help!!!

hello all, i seem to be having a problem with my e-mail in TF3D and was hoping someone would be able to help me...my problem is this, 1, whenever i read an e-mail in tf3d(not opera) it does not register in my actual yahoo acct that it has been read (or deleted for that matter)...also, whenever i send an e-mail using my TF3D (again, not opera) it does not register anywhere on my phone or at the actual yahoo site that i have sent a message...it doesnt appear in sent folder, draft, outbox etc...its like the message was never sent bc theres no visual proof (but the recipient always gets the message even tho its not showing up)...im hoping someone can help me fix these problems bc i love using the tf3d email tab, but i need proof that i sent and received/read this messages...any help would be greatly appreciated
I suppose that your Yahoo account is either setup either via POP3 or IMAP on your device. If you used the HTC Mail Setup wizard, then it's most likely IMAP. Anyway, the point is you're using a pull method to retrieve your mail (as opposed to push).
When you read or delete email from your device, Yahoo doesn't know that. So, that's why it doesn't show up as read/deleted when you check your email via a web browser.
Solution: after you've read or deleted any emails from your device, tap "Menu" and then "Send/Receive".
By default, when you set up email accounts on your device, only the inbox is synchronized with the server. If you want to see items in your "Sent" folder, you'll need to manually set that up. Luckily this is very easy.
Solution: In your inbox, tap "Menu", then "Tools", and then "Manage folders...". Toggle on the folders accordingly.

hey, forst of all i just want to thank u for not only your quick response, but also for your thorough explenation...the only problem is, IVE TRIED BOTH RECOMMENDATIONS!!! (NOT MEANT AS YELLING, MORE LIKE FRUSTRATED)....as far as the deleted messages, i figured that would "update" yahoo so i "resent/rereceived" the messages so it would (hopefully update) but it didnt work...also, nothing is showing up n the sent folder that your talking about on either the phone or on the actual website...its crazy, i really dont understand it...and yes, i do have the little option about saving a copy of sent messages n sent folder checked...any other ideas???
I think I would delete the account and then set it up again manually. Try different port numbers. Better yet. Forward everything to gmail and use it instead. push is awesome (except attachments still don't work right, but imap is easy too).
