Just wondering why it's called:
HTC Touch Pro2 T7373 - World
I have one and as a owner of:
SX56
SX66
8125
x7510 (a World phone with 3g in usa bought unbranded from a distibutor)
So why does the HTC Touch Pro2 T7373 - World
have the appellation "World" as part of its name
when there is a reasonably large part of the work that it doesn't reasonably cover
(assuming that 3g service in a 3g area is a reasonable thing to expext)
P.S. I am an owner of a "HTC Touch Pro2 T7373 - World"
purchased for big "early adopter" bucks.
I LOVE THE PHONE, and the kbd layout and All its features. and design
I Don't want to get a "tilt 2" (i want wm 6.5, but i Don't want the silly non-pc kbd)
But i depend on this thing to get work every day
I browse on it all the time
I live in the middle of manhattan
i am surrounded by 3g
and i can't have it.
So, why is it called World?
And why does the phone band menu show the US 3G bands when they don't work?
I really want a reasonable answer.
If the actual answer is:
"AT&T pressured us to hobble the phone until they oem'd it, and we acquiesced, since we have in the past"
and if it's truly a hard hardware issue (antenna, band amplifiers, etc.)
please just let us know the facts.
we've supported HTC financially for years.
we deserve a straight and direct answer.
Thanks.

This is why I think the Verizon unit is still the best bet.
Sure it's CDMA, but atleast you get 3G CDMA in the US on it... and then 3G GSM when you take it to Asia/Europe.

I putted World because is the version you could find in every country outside US, GSM model... It was me that had call it World, not hTC choice...

I ma happy once again

Switched to sprint this month after being on T-Mo for 8 years(MDA(Wizard), Tilt(on T-Mo)(Kaiser), G1) and 5 days ago found out devastating news - HTC touch Pro2 is coming to T-Mobile(i am currently on Sprint Diamons and Touch Pro but would love a bigger screen(even at the cost of a worse processor)). Well today i found out that HTC Rhodium is coming to sprint and apparently looks(is?) a lot like Touch Pro2 Happy once again!

Verizon's name is on the HTC spec. leak for the TP2 so you should be fine.
True they could scrap it but with the all other 3 big carriers getting it, I doubt they'd be that foolish...

It was leaked not announced... look at the spreadsheet I posted. It says tmobile usa and verizon. sprint is also set to get one. and at&t. but the last two aren't on the spreadsheet but were leaked through other venues. Q3 is the release date for the USA.
Though I doubt it, I'm just hoping that the US carriers keep the front facing camera this time. I would love to have that for video conferencing. The phone is more than capable. Also, I slightly worried that the US carrier might gimp out on the Professional Speaker phone. Not that it's a major feature to me, but I'm looking forward to it none the less. Other than that I think we'll see it as is with maybe some varrying keyboard arrangements. Actually, I would be we will see some variance in the keyboard (Windows and OK keys please!!!!!!)
Unfortunately, I doubt ATT will get it any time soon. They were a way behind on the Fuze. Plus, from what i have heard and seen, they carry the WM phones for two years each. They Fuze has been out for less than 1, so they would not sell the fuze and pro2 at the same time.
I just can't decide if i should keep my tilt until then. .
tmo and att can keep der branded pieces of pie. i'll take muh unlocked tp2 now pleez sur.

I don't think the Fuze and TP2 will appeal to the same people, honestly, and rumor has it ATT will get TP2 late this year. It's possible that they won't brand it as "Fuze 2", but leave the TP2 name intact (personally, I just hope they leave the keyboard intact), further distinguishing the two from each other. The fuze is already at $150 with 2yr on Amazon. By the time the TP2 comes out, I expect it will be lower. The Fuze can still make money for ATT as the more budget-minded business class device.
Users who are inclined more towards media are going to lean towards the TP2 for its larger, higher-res display. High end business users will also be wooed by the noise-cancelling conference-styled speakerphone.
we all hope that the keyboard will be intact. but theres a good chance that it wont. at&t has a notorious rep for messing up their phones hardware. i'm just gonna get an unlocked one as soon as i can be sure that it will work with at&t's 3G bands

No 3G in America!
As for the poll I like the original one best.. I don't like how the TMo version looks too plastic and too much like a toy, the ATT's looks odd and I don't like what Sprint has done with the colors (I hate that orange and black combination).

I must disagree lol the t-mobile looks and feels really good i support t-mobile on the housing change. since every carrier its picking the same look as the unlock version. t-mobile thought they should just change theirs to not be like every carrier i think it was a smart move. i do agree it takes time to dig the new look but once you have it in your hand its nothing but beauty.
I dislike the looks of the T-mobile one. The ones I'd like are the Telus and Verizon, very similar but slightly different (love the world map on the back of the Verizon). But I need gsm working and unlocked. 3G isn't a top priority, so I'll be going with the European one.
I would have preferred one with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
yeah the early buyers like me and others here didnt get the 3.5 mm version
I love my Telus one, even though it's CDMA worldphone, and not GSM, I don't mind.
I rarely if ever travel out of the country, and get great coverage where I do travel (often) .
There is 0 Telus branding on the phone, which makes it look 100% HTC Oem, which is awesome, and I have the 3.5mm headphone jack, and my favourite of all the keyboard layouts and external looks.
Since I'm on CDMA,,, there is the fact that it is a worldphone and I can get on any network, CDMA or GSM.

Well since I have T-mo and want 3G the T-Mo version is my fav! Actually when I first saw it I didn't like what they did to it but after having it a few days it grows on you.
I'm just going to say Sprint just because it's all black. Love all black!!!
I'm cool with my T-Mobile version though if it was all black I would love it way more.

I like the fact that it's chromeless. Even Sprint and VZW's little bezel looks shiny enough that I worry about scratching and general wear.
Sadly though, I want 3g on ATT prepaid. I'd probably use TMo if they had real prepaid data. So chrome it is for me.
Telus TP2 for (as previously mentioned):
3.5mm Audio
CDMA 3g + Potential for unlocked gsm
Overall good looks (they didn't keep the chrome, but didn't screw with anything else)

Yeah, it's more of a painted lighter silver where the chrome normally would be I suppose, but it looks great.
keep it real, keep it original..
The Sprint or Verizon one (well maybe with a different looking back lol), but The T-mob one isn't bad it would be better if it came in dark blue or black tho i'm not big on chrome on anything but my rims
I don't like the front buttons on the T-mo one.
All the other carriers left the original design alone. Why would T-mo change it??
Yeah, not a huge fan of the colors on the tmobile version. I like the original. I like the solid black look, not this goofy chromish/brown/gold look.
Perhaps a silly question but...
If you buy, for example, t-mob TP2 version.
This can be unlocked to use it with any other US carrier with no contract?
Thanks in advance,

Which U.S. carriers have Touch Pro2 with GSM

Hi, guys.
I have been thinking of buying a Touch Pro2 from ebay, but got totally confused.
I need the phone with GSM support, and from what i could see, the ones from T-Mobile and AT&T have that. Then there is this U.S. Cellular carrier. Some sellers list it as GSM capable, but the official HTC website tells otherwise. And there are other carriers too!
Would someone from the U.S. make a little guide for me, please, on which carriers did provide Touch Pro2 with 100% GSM support?
Thanks a lot!

Well here's where it gets confusing - ALL RHOD's have GSM radios. Even the CDMA ones - they were sold as "world" phones, so they had GSM radios and SIM slots.
Now your question probably pertains to which frequency is supported, and for that you'll have to look up specs. GSM arena or something like that would probably have the bands supported. Make sure whatever phone you're buying supports the bands you need for 3g.
With that said, any RHOD will work... but will it work on 3g... I don't know. You didn't even say what carrier you want.
I am from Ukraine, so Quad Band GSM capability is preferable, 'cause if I'm not mistaken, our domestic carriers are 2G and use GSM 900/1800.
So, by saying that all Rhodiums have GSM radios you mean that I can buy a U.S. Sprint branded Touch Pro2 (which is listed as CDMA only, and which I like the most by its looks ) and can still use it on a GSM network? That's terrific news, even if flashing a ROM or a radio is needed, but... Are you ABSOLUTELY 100% sure about that?

I have a Sprint TP2, and it does in fact have a GSM radio/SIM slot. However, I'm not that familiar with the device and what bands it supports.
The RHOD400/500 is more desirable IMHO, because it has a dedicated 3.5mm jack for headphones .
Let me see if I can find official band info.
Hopefully this image helps:

I'm not that concerned about the phone having a 3.5 slot, as about it being capable to make a call LOL! Still, from what I can see at the official HTC website, only the T-Mobile and AT&T version do not have it.
Also, thank you for the link! The thread explains a lot!

None of the GSM-only variants (RHOD100, 110, 210, 300) have 3.5mm jacks. Good luck.
I was just in kiev and travelled to uman with a sprint touch pro 2. I bought a life sim card and it worked great. was making international calls on skype over 3g travelling 70mph and it was pretty decent.

[REQ] Aussie radios

Hey fellow Aussies
I'm hoping some of you on here have recently purchased a Galaxy Nexus with either Optus or Telstra (and soon, Vodafone).
If you have, it would be really helpful to the community if you could post your radios, for us poor people who obtained phones other than from the carriers, and as such have radios that may not be optimised for use in Australia.
I'm hoping somebody can post a way for people to do this if they don't already know how. I know how to do it if you're already rooted, but I'd rather somebody with more knowledge make a post outlining all the options and explaining them concisely.
Thanks in advance
All the other Aussie Galaxy Nexus owners.
I purchased mine from the UK, which has the XXKK1(?) radio in it.
My mate just got his from optus, and it has the same radio in it.
In fact, it is the same phone but packaged with an australian charger.
There is no bloatware, nor seems to be any changes to the firmware or radio at all.
Can't vouch for Telstra - yet. I work for them so I can report back tomorrow with that info but it looks like it will again be the same radio if this one is anything to go by.
I'm using my GN on Telstra, and I'm getting 11 mbps speeds. It really comes down to the network, but yes I also want to get the best out of my radio
You should use a Euro radio for 900/1800 bands eg XXKK1 or XWKK6, and a US radio for 850/1900 bands eg UGKK7 or UGKL1.
Australia uses 900/1800 bands so the euro radio you have is totally fine.
Yeah, I just managed to get somebody who purchased from Optus to post their build.prop, and it seems to be just a European handset.
Here's the build.prop for anyone who's interested.

Australia uses all the main 3G bands.
Telstra - 850 and sometimes 2100 (being decommissioned)
Optus 900 / 2100 (in dual band format)
Vodafone 2100 but now rolling out an 850 network.
Telstra LTE (4G) is using the 1800 mhz band, which is combined with 850 to fall back on.
Screen shots cause I'm lazy...
Bought mine from handtec, using it on telstra...

Getting NextG optimised on Galacy Nexus grey
Telstra Nexus has following specs:
Android Version: 4.0.1
Baseband Version: I9250TDVKK6
Kernel Version: 3.0.1-ga052f63 [email protected] #1
Build Number: ITL41F.I9250TDVKK6
I have the grey with Baseband Version: I9250XXKK1 and my SIM is a Telstra NextG but I think because of diffeent baseband my reception is poor from -80dBm to -110dBm.
Has anyone ane ideas. PS I'm a dreaded android noob.
Theres a radio in the Dev section now, can someone zip it up so I can flash it please?
Having huge reception issues with Telstra atm. Its fine in the city but in regional areas with the 850 Next G band its hopeless!
Telstra user here, I was getting pretty poor performance from XXKK1, I was also getting lock up's where the reception would drop out when the phone slept. I also tried XWKK6 and wasn't having much more luck, but I switched to UGKL1 and not had any real issues since, I feel I get better reception now and less data flow issues.

[Q] Where can I buy a T-Mobile SGH-T999?

Hi, I'm in Canada on Wind Mobile. Can anyone tell me where I can buy a T-Mobile SGH-T999. T-Mobile won't sell to Canadian residents and ship to Canada. I couldn't find anything on ebay with a reputable seller, and Expansys has nothing as well. Really would like to pick up this phone right away.
there isnt really anywhere else you can purchase it, if i were you i would just buy the international version, the only carrier ones that i could find were the telus and att versions.
here's a link
Give Me A Thanks if i helped you out
Since you're in Canada, you can get the SGH-T999V which is for Canada.
WIND Mobile, Mobilicity, Videotron and some of the other companies should have it. I just checked Videotron and Mobilicity website for instance and their specs don't let LTE so you should be good to go.
http://pages.samsung.com/ca/galaxysiii/English/ (click on BUY).
The advantage I would see with SGH-T999/V is that it would be like a pentaband phone. Other than that, I would probably get the international version and get full quad core power assuming you're on a provider which is using the international frequencies.

That link takes you to the Carrier's website. In my case that would be Wind Mobile. But they will not sell one outright to an existing customer or even let an existing customer upgrade. Currently Wind Mobile says the SGS3 is only for new customer activation at the moment. Wind Mobile works on the same frequencies as T-Mobile, so that is why I was hoping to get a T-Mobile version, SGH-T999. But even though Wind Mobile and T-Mobile phones are interchangeable to use on both networks, they do not share the same ROMs. The T-Mobile Version of the Galaxy S3 will more than likely get better developer support for custom ROMs. It was the same way with the Galaxy S 4G. The Wind mobile version of the Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959W) has no developer support and is not able to run the same ROMs as the T-Mobile version (SGH-T959V). So I'm gonna play it safe and get a T-Mobile Galaxy S3.
Unfortunately for me, the international version of the Galaxy S3 will not work on my carrier. If it did, there would be no hesitation in buying one, as this version can be found unlocked almost anywhere online. I really wished Sammy made this phone pentaband like the Galaxy Nexus.
you can always find it on ebay

The Wind mobile version of the Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959W) has no developer support and is not able to run the same ROMs as the T-Mobile version (SGH-T959V). So I'm gonna play it safe and get a T-Mobile Galaxy S3.
Unfortunately for me, the international version of the Galaxy S3 will not work on my carrier. If it did, there would be no hesitation in buying one, as this version can be found unlocked almost anywhere online. I really wished Sammy made this phone pentaband like the Galaxy Nexus.

Ok, I see thanks. I was not aware of that since I have mainly purchased international phones and never really looked at carriers.
Could you switch providers which use international frequencies? I actually stopped by T-Mobile a few days ago and asked if they had the S3; they said no but they had a store unit bolted on a security thing so I used it. I showed them the international version which I had in my hand (with aluminum battery case and bumper) and said the custom stuff made it look sick!
