Hi everyone. Few days ago I bought my HT TOUCH PRO2 from Vodafone Romania. It was network locked. I had some troubles using the 3G connection and the GPS. first I flashed Hard SPL (thanks Olinex) than the last radio found on xda 4.46.25.24. same problems. I thought I have to returnit for service and I restored the original firmware and the radio found on HTC Europe website http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=250&cat=0&dl_id=624 . Big suprise:
1. 3G radio works (not the best signal on HSDPA but working)
2. GPS working like a charm
3. Phone is network unlocked. I tried a Orange sim on it and it works better (I mean I have better HSDPA signal) tha Vodafone.
(PS: I presumed that the phone was network locked because it is write on the top of it's retail box (Functioneaza numai in reteaua Vodafone Romania) This phone is networked locke by Vodafone Romania. Good luck everyone.
Don't forget about Hard SPL. I am using now Energy's Rom. The best for me.
please tell us...
where you are located (what country)
who is your carrier?
are you seeing the 3g or H (high speed data icons)
when you use the rom you're talking about?
thanks!

I see H when is HSDPA and G when is GPRS (EDGE)

doing a quick google, vodafone seems to have some units are sold unlock by default some are not..
Vodafone UK
Hi,
I have just tried another sim on my Vodafone UK branded phone and it works !!!
I tried an Orange UK sim and it works great.
I am using the Energy ROM.
Could it be that the phone is locked only if you are using the
vodafone ROM itself?
hi guys
its like that, that vodafone is not locking rhodium... i dont know why, but i bouhgt locked & branded tp2 and was quite suprised when i put inside PL orange sim card and its working Btw i debranded it using hero lite'n'sexy rom ;]
regards
ROM doesnt have anything to do with unlocking or 3G capabilities. So if you can use different sims then that means your phone is unlocked. If you get 3G that means, your operator has 3G in that area.
What you mean debranded using hero rom?

unless of course your phone does not have the magic antenna because it's an unbranded tp2 and you're in the usa and your carrier is at&t. then even if you're in middle of manhattan, surrounded by 3g, you don't get it. right?

Hi to everybody!
I love this forum becouse there are a lot of kind peolple and becouse i usually found here the answers to my question
I bought a T-Mobile MDA (htc hermes, tytn) with simlock. i used the unlocker in the same way i did with the hermes of my girlfriend. Now my sim is accepted, but at home i have no signal. my operator is WIND (italy) and it can be discovered and fixed if I go outside.. At my home Wind signal is well as i can see by other phones with wind simcards. when i look for networks on the hermes, it says there are the two other italian networks (TIM and Vodafone) but not the one i need. the problem appear only with wind simcards and other sim works well. i've changed the radio rom with upper and lower, but the problem is the same. can someone help me? thanks a lot!
in the start/systems/settings/device information, what is the radio version? is it wm5.0 or 6?
now is 1.50.00.00 but before i used the lastest (1.56.70.11) with the same results. wm6 pro original by t-mobile. thanks for your attention!

looked like the italian releases comes with 1.47.00.10 so you may want to tryt hat.
i used radio rom 1.47.00.10 but it's the same... in the same desk my htc hermes and my nokia 9500, both with a Wind Simcard: the nokia fully working, the other one says "no service" :-( but my answer is why only with sim of this brend?

and you swapped sim cards?
I have two different sim by wind and i swapped them, but the one in the htc phone never works. if I put another sim, like a Tim or Vodafone sim, it works well! damn.. :-( in the same place, htc can't discover Wind Network and Nokia or other phones can (and i found the maximum signal power..)

In the phone pannel of the settings there is a bands page, make sure its on automatic.
yes both first and second options are on "auto"...
well the only thing i can think of is wind is still a growing network, link didn't work the nokia would probably pick up the E900 frequency, compared to the hermes only GSM900/1800 which is still expanding, as you said outside your house it works OK. You'd have to wait and see I guess how the expansion is going.
dear zocster, Wind is a big italian mobile company, and the same sim card in the phone of my girlfriend (the same htc hermes, t-mobile branded too) works perfectly!!! :-( do you think i should ask to an htc tech center? i'm so sad... ;-) thanks a lot for your time, and thanks to veyka too!
I HAVE A NEWS: if u use a H3G sim on my HTC HERMES (www.tre.it) my phone discover only the roaming network and not the H3G network... can this new info be useful to understand what's going on to my phone?
hi friends.
i have diamond 2g india version. i also wanted to buy diamond 3g. a friend of mine is offering me diamond 3g which is security unlocked but am not sure if its sim unlocked. only vodafone and idea networks worked on it and not airtel. so i tried updating its radio to 1.11 and also its rom to swtos lite and now even vodafone and idea is not working on it.
that is no operator network works on it now. what do i do.? also i wanted to tell u that this model is the testing model which htc released to ppl who review the device before its launched. does it makes any difference?
also is it sure that it is sim locked and OLIPRO's sim unlocker will solve my problem?
?? help plzzzz!!
i am sorry . idk bout the 3g ... try with another 3g phone
Airtel's GSM Network frequency is different than that of Voda / Idea and BPL.
if ur device could work on voda and idea that means it is already unlocked. Just try and insert another sim and confirm that.
Also I would suggest Radio 1.08.25.20 which is quite stable.

I recently went to India and took my unlocked UK Diamond there and it worked on ALL three of those networks. I just left the network frequency/band on AUTO.
I really don't get it. Was wondering what rom goes with USA t-mo tp2? cdma or gsm ones.
I know that t-mo tp2 is gsm but I just dont want to brick my phone.
Going to use it in Europe. And what rom to use as well ?
Thank you

If you have the T-Mobile USA TP2 it's a GSM phone, and if you want to flash a custom rom it should be chosen from the GSM ones.
As for which ROM is best for use in Europe, it doesn't matter.
Edit: I assumed you're talking about an OS-ROM...but if you're talking about a radio-ROM then maybe some work better than others in different locations.
But, as far as I know, the TMo USA rom won't be able to access 3G signal in Europe because its radio hardware uses different frequency/bands for 3G than is used in Europe. It will work with regular GSM bands, though.

A T-MoUSA-branded TP2 in Europe and using a 3G data connection? If that's true, I'd be glad. I'd like the option of high-speed data on my TMoUSA phone while over there...

I'm getting mine, from USA, in a few days and will keep you informed
It works on every network I tried so far.
so are the telus and euro hero the same hard ware wise?
could i install the telus ruu and get hspa on the 1900/850 bands? cuz my antenna can get it, it just takes gsm/egde/gprs instead of hsdpa...
does anyone know where i can find a link to this ruu?
if its not for sure, will i be able to just use my recovery image after?
if not because its an ruu, could someone package the ruu into an update.zip so i dont loose the recovery image in case it goes wrong?
thank you so much!
also to be sure
i thought i could use my phone as it is on telus! In which case,
1. is it possible to be partially unlocked?
cuz i can use rogers but not telus
2. why would telus site say my phone works when it doesnt?
3. how do i check if my phone is unlocked when i stick in a telus card and it doesnt ask for an unlock code!?
4. maybe they havnt worked out their kinks yet?
thanks again
The cpu controlls the radio bands, these are preset, one chip for us radio bands and one for euro, so your radio problem is hardware not software and your stuck with what you got ...... sorry
It's not 100% confirmed about the hardware. But at this time, no quad HSDAP band unlocks
you just got me super stoked... are you saying that the phone might be capable... it just has to be unlocked or something?

Switching to Rogers won't help with the frequency issue.
Rogers and Telus use identical bands for 3G/HSPA

Except that he will get GPRS/EDGE on Rogers, whereas he gets nothing on Telus. because apparently they don't have a 2G network, and haven't signed a roaming agreement with a carrier that does.

Dave
Yup. GPRS/Edge works on Rogers. And to be honest, 3G data transmission seems as slow as Edge (I've got both a European and North American Hero) at times (a lot of the time). Must be those darn iPhone users sucking up all the bandwidth.
i dont use data anyways so not having 3g doesnt effect mee (using pay as you go)
and whoa they sell sim cards for $40! but i found for 15 just gotta wait like three days for it in the mail :\

Depends where you live, im a tester for Ericsson and i work everynight on Rogers sites, devices are all capped at 7.2mbit and the max you can get out of the connection is close to 3mbit.. its not network congestion its just a softcap set by Rogers to not cause congesting.
i dont know if they are made available to the public, but i use a 21mbit usb aircard for my tests and on Rogers i get 15mbit in montreal.
HTC MAGIC on TELUS.
if i purchase an htc magic unlocked originally from rogers will it work with telus hspa data + phone?
Here's a thought!
If you've a question about the Magic, why not go to the Magic forums and ask it there, instead of posting on the Hero forums where it is just spam?
Regards,
Dave

Hi Xda'ers...
I might have the chance to get a T-Mobile G2 here in Guatemala. It's been said that the phone supports GSM BANDS:850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and HSDPA 1700 / 2100 . Here in Guatemala my service Prodiver Claro works with GSM 900/1900 and UMTS-HSDPA: 1900 Will this mean that the G2 will work properly but only in 2G network not on 3G?
The phone comes locked to T-mobile and if i do the gfree method will it work with my provider?
Thanks for the help in advance!

If you're positive of those band numbers then yes, it'll work but just on the 2G.
It will work with your provider as long as you use the SIM unlock commands via gfree

Well i have put my SIM on the phone and when it tries to login into the network it says that my SIM is unable to login into the selected network.
I´ve changed the Radio, got S-OFF and root but the same result... Anyone with any good advise about what to do?
I´m trying to login into a GSM Network running on 900/1900 Band...
Thanks!

Root has nothing to do with it, you need to use the SIM unlock command, check the wiki for the info on how to do that

Hello Jimbo,
I also have a T-Mobile G2 here in Guatemala and is working fine with the Claro company but just using the 2G Network.
After following the steps to unlock the SIM Network using gfree ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision )
I just added the new APN to make it work with Claro, (Name: INTERNET CLARO, APN: internet.ideasclaro, Port:8080).
