Older Ipaq to wm6.1 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi Guys
Im Completely lost at this point.
I have an Older HP Ipaq H4350, Ive been trying to upgrade this stupid thing from wm 2003 to wm 6.1 so that it can read my SDHC ( thats what i read somewhere that 2003 cant read the cards and wm6.1 can)
here some quick questions ( there gona sound really really dumb)
1) can you take any rom and force it onto a device ( newer hp rom on older device)
2) If it can only be done by Cooking how difficult is that, cause with cooking i feel like im going from the frying pan to the fire!
thanks so much for time

1) NO
2) There is no ROM kitchen for iPAQ h4350 (HTC Dextrous) and it's impossible to build WM6.1 because ROM size is only 32MB.

Thanks Spiaatie
i guess Ill just go out and grab a 4GB SD card than, would have been nice to use my 8GB from my old palm 750.
thanks though, good think i didnt do anything fully stupid

That's not right.
You need bepe's fix or a ROM with bepe's fix in order to make the SDHC work.
You didn't search for the answer, so I'm going to tell you something you can search for in this forum.
There's a .cab (WM installation) file which you can use to make SDHC work on your device.
I am sorry you think that I am wrong, However, I can assure you I do have a HTC as supplied ROM running WM6 it is not a "Bepe" sepcial not did I have to install the CAB file it simply works ROM is 3,13,405,1 WWE dated 08/28/07 - Mike
Don't give information that has 0,00001% chance to work.
Just read the older SDHC topics in this forum.
e.g.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310456&highlight=sdhc

Some people say they got a non-standard 4 GB non-micro-SDHC card. If it's NOT a SDHC card it will work in WM5 and WM6 regardless of any SDHC patch. Since you didn't say anything about that your information about your pda is probably true. Most people will buy SDHC cards (without knowing what that means) and therefore TryOG is right.
here ya go.
No need to start arguements and discussions over something when all they asked was for a bit of help. We were all quite new once, and sometimes forgot / neglected to use / or didnt know about the search feature.
So, whats the max capacity for a SDHC card for use in the Artemis? I've seen some on www.mymemory.co.uk which go up to 16gig! ! !
fubofo = PM me an email addy that you have linked to Paypal (if you use Paypal!) and I will buy you a couple pints as promised.
very thank you
i bought a 4 gb micro cd this morning but it's doesn´t work ,after apply the cab every fine.
i have a artemis with wm6
thena for the help.
long life to the forum
Just for information: I set up balck and blue 5 on my spv m650 and kingston 4GB sdhc works fine, without any modifications.
I used to frequent this forum a lot a few years ago when I had an O2 XDA II. It was great, lot's of helpful friendly people and a lot of fun too as we tried different things with ROM's etc.
Last couple of years though I moved to a Blackberry which was issued as part of my kit when I changed jobs. No PPC so I didn't view the forum for a long time.
Last month however I changed jobs again, handed in the Blackberry and bought myself a Dopod P800W returning to the PPC platform.
Thought I also return to the old haunt, ask a few questions and learn a bit more about the Dopod unit and what has happened in the filed of PPC's while I was away.
Well folks I can tell you the forum has changed. In reviewing the posts I was amazed at the number of times people answer a simple question with a somewhat aggressive response of "you haven't searched the forum!" type comment.
I posted some questions about my Dopod and though over 60 people read it, no one, not one person offered an answer.
So my advice is lighten up a bit and enjoy the interaction of sharing with people. We can all use a hand every now and then, who knows you may even make some friends.
It Works for me !!!
i faced the same issue of 4 GB card not getting recognized in my new P3300 (whereas the seller told me that it supports 4 GB). Anyways thanks a millon tons !!! for the cab. My P3300 now is recognizing the micro SDHC card. And yes , i am using Sandisk MicroSDHC card.
4GB Card
Hi .. I have a P3300 with WM5. Will this accept a 4GB SDHC card ? i tried the patch spoken about earlier, but i guess its only for WM6. I lost access to my Storage Card completely ...... even the old one

I agree mate, its changed a lot since the good old days and whilst collectively there is a lot more help out here many of the people feel its below them or something, i think the problem is two fold, firstly free loaders that take everything and offer nothing, like not even responding to your question, secondly there are so many more people on here now i think its became to big which is partly why people just say search the forums, i think its a shame its got this way but as they say, evolution doesnt always equal positive progress.

Fastest, Cleanest ROM

I have just had my stolen touch cruise (TC) replaced with this diamond ;(
I had Bepes ROM and PhamQuangs ROMS they were brilliant. The reason being they sped up the TC. I need/would like to do the same to the Diamond. Could anyone recommend the Fastest, Cleanest ROM? I am happy to install programs as and when I want them. It seems the more programs the slower it is. Seeming as this ppc has no external SD card we need to be really conservative!
I look forward to hearing thoughts on peoples experiences.......
Kind Regards,
Will

No "We" do not not need to be conservative at all. Just treat the \Internal Storage folder in exactly the same way as you would treat an SD card on a device that has one. Or to think of it another way. Just imagine your Diamond is your old device but it has had the SD card glued into it. No need to be conservative.
Also I suspect this thread will get killed too. Please look at the Read this before you Post message at the top of this forum.

Before it does get killed I disagree with the above largely because I had a 8gb micro sd card and was very excited about the 32 one coming out. I am unable to use my diamond as a great music machine which the tc was. once pointed out to apple enthusiasts the capabilities of the tc were then they were in awe of the htc engineering. Don't get me wrong this phone is phenomenal but it does not have the large storage.

Thats totally fine, cant argue with that. Maybe "You need to be really conservative" - "We" do not. I have more than enough space on my Diamond for my needs. I thought perhaps you were getting confused about how the memory is set up and how filling the \Internal Storage will not effect its speed.
Try an AZTOR rom. Fast, No added extras and reportably no Mp3 lag so would be good choce for Music. New version due any day reportedly.
Re the bloke in the frock. Discuss what you like, as long as it is within the forum rules. He/She does not have to read it.
Same applies to the chap with the pencil.
Time to change my Sig I think.

Install Tilt WinMob 6.1 on 8525 what if?

What would happen if I attempted to download (from htc) and install the windows mobile 6.1 update for the tilt on my 8525? I am currently running SPL-2.10.Olipro.. do you thing it would brick the phone? I mean why wouldn't it work? The tilt is a 400mhz process same as the 8525.. only added features on the tilt is the GPS and auto focus camera...Any thoughts? yes I am a noob.

you are welcome to be the first one to try! such old questions that has been answered many many times.
i am not talking about cooked versions.. I am talking about OEM. I rather not be the first one to try but technically what would happen?
first of all the RAM and ROM size is different, it will turn your hermes to a brick ... but again, you're more than welcome to be the first one to try.
well then that is all I needed to know. That is the reason why I can not do it.. cause the ram and the rom size is different. Thank You.
You wont be able to install it. But if you would like to brick your hermes, then go ahead and try it and let us know
GOD DAMN!!! Congrats Men!
The most inspirated question i have heard I come from wizard threads and letme tell you...
The RUU original will tell you ERROR (XXXX) Wrong device or wrong ID or wrong ROM Update Utility
God Damn!!! but if you try to extract the NBF from the exe with winrar...
maybe it's named Ruu_signed.nbf for Hermes... or its calle NK.nbf as in Wizard or maybe is called Dont_extract_me_fool.nbf
Maybe yopu can rename it to RUU Signed.nbf and put it on RUU Wrapper and run it!!!
I know a guy that has an Universal and flash a Custom rom for Wizard on its...
OBVIOUSLY it is bricked!!!! a blank screen only! no Bootloader no hardreset.
So... answered bye

I know that this has been answered--NO but I thought you might like to know a bit more.
1--The hermes uses a completely different chipset and video set up.
2--the ROM and RAM sizes are completely different. The tilt has more than two times the amount that the hermes has
3--The Hermes is a single processor device running a 400Mhz as you stated but the tilt is a dual processor device --one running the os and the other handling the calls to hardware such as the radio and gps.
4--The devices take completely different drivers. You should have researched the specs before asking this type of question.
Finally, winmobile is not like xp. It is not built to handle any hardware you through at it. It is very customized for the hardware on which it is installed. It has to be to fit in the small storage on these devices.
There are 6.1 versions of cooked roms already for the hermes. just use one of those! Better yet, don't ever flash your device because ...well I am sure you can figure out the rest of that sentence!
Tilt is very old phone...

Enjoy your fantastic and fabulous thread.... n00bs!!!
I think he wants an original 6.1 on his hermes... thats all... but men why dont you read there is a thread with this question.
I think we all got our noob bashing off our chest and I think the OP has got the message its not a good idea. How bout we drop this pointless thread now.....
Another noob here
I realize that y'all become impatient and annoyed with noobs, but this very question is what led me to this site in the first place. I apologize that I'm just a concerned and inexperienced consumer trying to gain knowledge from the best source I can find online, and that I haven't really mastered searching this site as well as everyone else to find the answers to my dilemma.
I have an AT&T 8525 and HTC told me that they aren't going to do any more updates, and also, no, I can't download the Tilt ROM onto my phone. In fact, they planned to pull the WM 6 ROMs off their site on October 31. I just rechecked the HTC site this evening, and they've removed *all* updates for the 8525 from the page I used to visit. So if I brick my phone by doing some silly noob thing, I can't even go back and get the old WM 6.0 ROM.
I've already had the opportunity to see the new AT&T Fuze since it hit the stores yesterday, but I'm wary of buying it the minute it comes out. I would prefer to lurk for a while and see what the rest of y'all have to say in the Raphael forums before I spend the money.
Please be charitable to people like me who are just trying to be cautious. I love the phone I have because it's been very reliable, but yet it's obvious that there is a "planned obsolescence" for the 8525. Meanwhile, I'm just looking here for something I can do to get WM 6.1 for my 8525 until I'm satisfied that they've gotten the bugs out of the Fuze. I think there's still plenty of life left in my 8525 and you might say I just want to renew my love affair with it.
OK, noob rant over..thanks for your consideration!
Step 1... Install Hard SPL V7 onto your 8525. It helps recover your Hermes if it does go south while doing the update.
Step 2... Look at the WM06 section of the forum. Just about ALL the roms displayed there at the moment are Wm6.1. Read the Chefs writeup about their ROM and see if you like it.
If you did a search with the keywords "Hermes roms" it may have led you back to the original stock ROMs and cooked ROMs. These are pretty old now though.
Cheers...
It doesn't hurt to actually get your own library of ROMs, I made sure I have my stock Telstra rom stored on my hard drive. Since you knew that the stock ROM you use was about to be pulled you should've downloaded it so if something does go wrong you actually have it and don't remain victim to HTC's will. Now it may be harder to find the stock rom you use...

SDHC ready ROMS

I have read and search for a ROm here that has say it is SDHC compliant 9 able to recognize a higher capacity microsd meaning 4gig and above)
read The roms that have come out but still there are no indications that it is sdhc
I have read that only k's ( kinokin) was able to have made one please help me out I am new with this thread and had my research about roms that has been released ...
Is the driver for sdhc can cause a problem with our hermes?
All WM6.1 ROMs have SDHC capabilities :O
WOW
that was lightning fast... okay so that is the reason why they dont say it anymore because all of 6.1 version for hermes is sdhc ready... well as for the wizard we are still trying to have it made...
maybe i should read more about 6.1 version fro hermes can someone give an outline what is the difference of 6 to 6.1 about hermes?
again thanks
Most, if not all the cooked WM06 roms are also sdhc compliant. It was mainly some of the VERY early roms and WM05 that weren't. Some of the stock roms also were trouble.
Cheers...
I am just so confused now because before hermes has a lot of free space like 70 for programs and over 30 for the Programs yet now it has change and it is due to the modules that where replaced?
re- modules? maybe that is the price we have to pay for stability and for a faster response
but somewhere in the thread of ROMS M2D is not that stable for the hermes? and yet for the wizard it has more than 2 cooks that have made it working smoothly... I was just thinking it is due to the modules that eat up the resources?
another thing is the GPS... yes it has been said over and over but it cant be done with Hermes but some claims that they have did it... so what is the real score is it capable of receiving a gps connection or is it a folktale that they have indeed make it have a GPS
makes me think about the nike thread about wifi it has a module but n one has ever unlock it
IMHO
Take my word back...
after a day kareem9nba has shown that m2d and a big storage can still be a reality for Hermes users
Thanks a lot for the Roms

I's nice to have you here I dont know you have a hermes... BTW you have done a great job on the Wizard WM6 forum nice ROM and many people said that your rom is the only one that can be patched to read SDHC in a wizard... is not a trudly fact but many people can be sure of this... I think they use SD nonHC 4 GB
Real big storage can only be on Hermes I think but it would be nice if works on wizard jajajaja (dont know where does this takes memory but it would be great!!!) Joshkoss said on his kitchen forum that os.nb.payload file on the SYS folder or XIP was missing on 20931... and he said that we can use other file and it becomes A RBSN ROM I dont know if this can make it just because this file....
Ultramag told me something that is so interesant, now i Kknow that since the build 20755 all the ROM's comes with the SDHC Drivers on the reg key values ( maybe olders but I dont have any other older than that to see the reg keys)
rying new stuff
Yeah I heard that too about sdhc on AMP never had a chance to try it though
thank you if ever you have tried my ROM before... I am trying to know more about the hermes now and who knows I may concoct my own soon...
Great!!!! keep it up men!!!

New to HTC Phones

Hi
I have never owned a HTC phone, or any other Windows Mobile phone for that matter, but have just ordered one and after looking around this site I am looking forward to its arrival.
Basically, I had a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Smartphone but I didn't really like having a completley touchscreen phone and so I sold it and went looking for a simple, solid phone with a QWERTY keyboard - this is when I came across the HTC TyTn (or in my case the SPV M3100 - but I gather they are pretty much identical)
Anyway, after looking in various places over the internet, I have become rather excited about the idea of tweaking my phone to suit my needs. I saw this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H82qOZAufQo
Which shows a very cool layout on the phone. I was wondering if anybody knew where I could find this ROM? Also, I would like a ROM which is quite quick and simple, yet still looks nice - anybody have any suggestions?
Finally, if anybody has any suggestions of cool/useful must have applications for a beginner, please post them here too!
Thankyou for the help this site has given me
Regards

Thanks for the reply I will continue to keep reading around and if I have any problems in the process I will post into this thread
Which of your ROMS would you reccommend for a fast loading Operating System that still looks aesthetically pleasing?
Also, do you have any tips for conserving battery life? I think this phone looks amazing for the low price I paid, but it is a considerably old phone (nearly four years!) so I am slightly concerned.
Thanks again for the help
Battery life is a xtrange behaivour on every windows mobile 6.5 sometimes it is good sometime it sucks your batt so fast but the only way you can say this is the right Good rom for me is trying all one by one maybe one is the one that likes you! enjoy and happy Unlocking and flashing times
I got mine a week ago and came here in hopes to find the knowledge and tools to get my Vario II looking sleek and modern.
First thing to do is read, read, read and know what everything refers to..
As I understand it, there are basicly 3 parts of the phone that can and probably needs to be updated..
* HardSPL
* The Rom of your choice
* The Radio version
All of these things are very easy if you follow the guides.
Start with HardSPL
http://www.mrvanx.org/thg/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=26
After doing that, the hardest part is finding the rom that best suits you.
You've already pointed out that you like the touchflo style interface with manilla2D
This is a very nice rom, it's fast, easy to use and you can pretty much use your thumb for everything.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=599474
There are 3 versions, you want this one.. Manilla 21877 3g
Now, while downloading, read this guide..

That should be all the info you need, good luck
Wow.. thanks a lot for the help This is a very friendly forum! Could you please quickly elaborate on the advantages of changing the "radio version"?
Also, the ROM you linked me to looks nice, but I don't really like the menu layout (where you can see 'Today' 'Settings' 'Connections' etc.) are there any alternatives or can they be changed?
Thanks again
Dont worry too much about the radio, you should be fine...
Go through the section and look at the screenshots of the roms, remember, the one you saw on youtube is based on the older windows mobile 6.1 and there's only a handfull of manilla2s roms based on windows mobile 6.5
Take your time and you through all of them befor you decide
Like you said, the tytn is an older phone and with loaded roms the amount of memory does seem to be problematic..
No rom will be exactly the way you want it, I have probably flashed more then 10 different roms.. Do that and you'll probably find what it is you're looking for!
Have fun and dont hesitate to ask
In general the less flashy it looks, the faster it will be, and the better the battery life will be.
Ontop of that some cores are better optimised than others, so far it looks like the 23XXX WM6.5.X builds seem to be okeys, should get at least 1 day out of it, again it all depends on the rom youy chose and what you do with it.
Edit: Also, the radio rom you flash is general very important for battery life, and newer =! better with radio roms, I think theres a pretty good guide and list of where radios have been tested on the wiki page.
Just be careful flashing the Radio Rom though, a mistake or accident means you won't be making or receiving any calls/mms/sms ever again.
I tend to use the sd card method for flashing radios as it minimizes the chance of the PC stuffing up....
Make sure you have Hard SPL V3 installed before any flashing though...
Cheers...
windows 7
I have Windows 7. Can I still flash my phone with it? Has anyone had any problems?
You say that first I have to run the HardSPL, which unlocks my phone? My phone is with ATT. Will I have to go and put back the ATT settings so I can send messages, etc?

I have been flashing with Windows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit with no issues. I have an AT&T branded 8525 and did the HardSPL flash from SD card with no issues.

Use this method to flash V7. IMO it's the safest and most reliable method. If you are still running stock WM5.0 on your 8525 I feel bad for you.
sspl
Did you put SSPL-HERM on your phone and run it?
