Hi,
I've tried to upload a 3.8 MB zip file and received the error "Upload failed". I thought the limit for zip is 8 MB as stated in the upload window.
Renaming to cab did not help, the upload fails to but without any error message.
Could you please help me?
Regards, UMH

I have the same problem here! Cab is around 5MB and zip file is 2.5MB.
Could someone shed some light on this please!
Many thanks!!!
I've always had problems uploading on this forum. It's about impossible to upload a .cab, I ALWAYS have to zip it up first. After that, it loads fine, but it's still very frustrating.

Uploading large files (or many files) with phpBB using HTTP POST is a pain. I created a new feature where attachments can now be uploaded using FTP .
[ftp_upload.gif]
Simply FTP to 'xda-developers.com', username 'xdaupload', password 'xda' and put the file in the root directory (do not create subdirs). Then use the '... or select a recently FTP-uploaded file ...' dialog (which is only present if files were uploaded) in the 'Add an Attachment' part of the message posting page to add the attachment.
Please don't attach other people's files, as they can only be attached once. Any files still in the temporary directory and not attached to a message are automatically deleted after 24 hours.
NOTE/2005-04-26: ftp username has been changed to xdaupload
maybe it's stupid but I can NOT attach any file, I have even placed the file in the root directory of xda-developrs.com
the file itself occupies 118k but so far I am apparently out of luck ... any idea how to fix it ??
diminishing the size of JPG does not help

YUP...GOT IT!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH SIR PETER!
Just had a few problems with this - is there a file size limit other than the ones on the limits page? I uploaded a 2MB png file, but it kept coming back with an error when I tried to attach it.
Use the ftp site and link the file in your post.
Yep, I did that - the files uploaded OK, but when I came to add the attachements, it threw an error:
Upload Error: Could not upload Attachment to ./files/nbefore.png.
The file should still be there if you want to have a go...
by link I meant:
Link the Ftp link to the file in your post (copy link).
Ah I see. Will the files not get cleared down overnight then? Not a problem as I can host the files myself, I was just wondering if I could get the nice BBS attachment snippet.
Upload Error: Could not upload Attachment to ./files/wm2k5_2.01a.32ger_xda2_himalaya.rar
Upload Error: Could not upload Attachment to ./files/test.txt
Anybody knows what I'm making wrong?
:? the message has changed...
Upload Error: Could not upload Attachment to /home/hosting/forum.xda-developers.com/files/upload/Uploads/test.txt -> ./files/test.txt.
hmmm... Some body is working on that problem
hi - i have downloaded the XDA-developers-SER-v12.exe from jeff summers post at http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDA-developers-SER-v12.exe when i run the program it says that it cannot find the ROM image to upgrade your pocket pc please download and try again. i think my question is - how do i make the download from jeff see the rom image i have to enable it to make the modifications and then install it to my device....... many thanks in anticipation of some assistance. :?
Have you looked at the file size? I would try downloading it again, it maybe you have a corrupt or partial file.
hi thanks for your reply - i have now checked the file size - the download is 15.4 meg and the file i have is also 15.4 meg .... i will however download the file again just to eliminate the corrupt file issue and will post to this thread the results of trying to run the newly downloaded version. thanks for your reply.
i have done as i said but i still get the same error message.... 007 cant find the rom image ... can you or anyone tell me the procedure for using this developers program as per the above link from jeff... i need to know where to place the rom image so that the program can find and adjust it.
Just to check whether it's the file contents and not something else, change the file name to .zip and use Winzip to check the file. You should find a directory named \english that has a file named NK.nbf with a size of 32 MB
In that case if you have SD card and reader/writer, just move this file to the SD card and use the bootloader (power button + soft reset) to flash your XDA.
Hi thanks for your reply – I have done as you asked and yes the file does exist….. the only card reader writer I have is the xda its self via activsync – will this be suitable ?? – I have read lots of info of this site and wondered do I run the risk of destroying my xda by being of limited ability and not using a “.exe” self installing method. ?
Hi ...
If you can extract the NK.nbf file, then you can use the XDAtools from this site. Use the OSImage tool to copy the file contents to your XDA flash ROM. I would recommend taking a backup first using the same tool but with the opposit source/destination.
If you still get the error message then you are stuck to the SD card method. Up to my info (didn't try it tho), copying the file through the XDA will not work as the card will be formated during the the copying, you must use a PC reader\writer for this.
You better be very careful as YES there is always possibility to turn your XDA into a very expensive paper weight!! ... but by following the instructions it will go very smoothly.
Good luck ...
thanks i will give it my best shot and return here with the results....and possibly an expensive paper weight
many thanks.

hi
i just make an ftp site for 50 mb web space
http://www.stormpages.com/gkfaisal/
click member login
username :gkfaisal
password: M8rbW8ov
then click
file uploads
if you are uploading .exe file you have to
rename .exe file to some other extension, this ftp site will not upload .exe files
for testing i upload an abc.exe file by renaming it to abc.txt
then it gives a message
uploaded successfully
then click file manager, there you can see the uploaded files.
for those who only want to download files will have to login by the given username & password the click file manager & can download files
thanks
uploading now!
Having trouble, it keeps coming up as invalid file type after it finishes transferring the whole file. Did try it first with the initial rar file and then tried renaming it to a txt file but still no joy. Will try again tomorrow!
Fin
thanks a lot for trying
so where can i get it?
so where can i get it?
XDA Developers ftp upload
Goto:
ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]
this is the upload directory for XDA Developers
This one is to browse only plus access to other directorys to view.
ftp://xda:[email protected]
You cannot load large attachments in posts, so use the ftp for those big ones.
Hope this helps
Thankx Dude!!!
orange 1.66.230 is now in Himalaya/Uploads on ftp

Thanks
Thanks a lot

Not having a Mac in front of me, IIRC, the Mac automatically unzips the file when you download. In the browser settings you can tell it to do nothing when it finishes downloading a compressed file. Your problem is, once the file is unzipped, I don't think you can zip it again because the MD5 changes and the signature verification fails when you try to flash it.
Assuming you are using the Mac default Safari browser, under preferences > general, uncheck "Open safe files after downloading..."

Hey there! Could you tell us on which rom you are, and if it's the stock file manager you're using or another one?
