Hello guys and gals. I was recently hired by Microsoft. Now, i wanna get right into my question here. Ive had 2 Win Mo phones in the past. T mobile MDA and T mobile Dash. Great phones for their time but after leaving the Dash i jumped onto a sidekick and then a G1,MyTouch,iPhone 3GS and now...here i am looking to get a Windows Mobile phone....simply due to my new job. They REQUIRE that it is a Windows Mobile powered device. Now im not a noob to the scene per say but as for the TP2, i will have to jump on it thru T mobile (discounts). So this leads me to my question(s).
1. Where can i get the HTC branded ROM?
2. Are there issues with it and the Tmobile keys, keyboard or anything of that sort?
3. How fast does the phone run....for you personally? (i come from a speedy 3GS iPhone)
4. Battery life? Bluetooth performance? WIFI performance?
5. Browser....usable or ****ty? (heh)
6. Thanks!
Hey,
I have both the iphone 3gs and touch pro 2. It terms of the speed of the phone it is not as quick day to day use compared to the iphone however some of the custom roms for the touch pro 2 available here do bring it quite close.
The battery life for me is about the same on both devices, wifi is pretty standard, web browsing is not as good as the iphone but fine enough to use, the pages don't render as quickly on the touch pro 2 and scrolling isn't very smooth.
The bluetooth stack on the touch pro 2 is horrible in my opinion, running audio through it sounds yuck without any reg tweaking but you can do more with it than the iphones bluetooth (considering you haven't jailbroken it).
There have been rumours that tmobile will be getting the new touch Hd2 which is a far superior phone to the touch pro 2. I would suggest you hold out a few more months for that to hit the shelves.
OK if you had to rate top 5 sprint phones including Epic 4g touch how would you rate and why and the pro and cons of each.

1. GS2 ET4G
- Fastest, lighest, brightest, battery life, camera, etc, etc. Will really deserve #1 after LoS is fixed.
2. iPhone 4S
- Too tough to compete with the iphone in terms of reliability, speed, etc. Retina display is nice, although not as bright as SAMOLED+.
3. Photon 4G
- Reliable, World Phone, Pretty, decently fast, decent battery life, well built. Minus for Blur being the worst UI out there + PenTile.
4. EVO 3D
- Quick, nice screen, decent battery. Lousy camera(s), 3D is so so depending on the content. Similar to photon with worse camera, radios, and build quality.
5. Nexus S 4g
- Pure google trumps everything else even if the specs are any better on the others.
1. Epic Touch 4G
Pros
- Great Battery Life!
- Pulldown toggles

ET4G and then I would stop since I have it and don't care about the others haha. This phone does what I need, but find the one that does for you. I personally don't think you will be disappointed with the ET4G STOCK. That is how I ran mine until you could repack CWM with stock kernel and I didn't feel like I missed out on anything until now with Calk's/all + ICS twist

Truth be told, if Ice Cream Sandwich wasn't coming out on the Galaxy S II the Epic 4G Touch would be placed second on my list next to the iPhone 4S. I'm just amazed at how fast the phone is without hardware acceleration fully enabled (Gingerbread isnt fully hardware accelerated, its only in-app). With ICS system-wide hardware acceleration, the phonr should not only bring it on top of iPhone and WP fluidness but it should also be a lot faster than before.

iPhone 4S
I've been testing both the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3 and have been comparing both along with the iPhone 4S. iPhone is still better in quality and variety of apps and is a much better email device than any Android phone. Also, since I'm a Mac user (also have the iPad and a MacBook Air 2012), iPhone integrates nicely with the whole eco-system with iMessage, Photo Stream, and iCloud. I did however find excellent alternatives to these services for Android such as Drop Box for Photo Syncing which is much better than Photo Stream because I can access the data without having it tied to one Mac computer. And also Air Droid which allows me to send text messages, access photos and contacts from my phone with any web browser.
The HTC One X has a better screen than iPhone 4S and Samsung S3. Build quality on the One X is superior to the Galaxy and is at the level of the iPhone 4S. The Galaxy S3 feels like a cheap plastic phone. Unfortunately the HTC One X doesn't have an MicroSD card slot for memory expandability and the camera produces mediocre photos.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 however wins in having the best camera of the three and having that MicroSD slot comes in really handy. Although the screen quality isn't as great as the iPhone's and the HTC One X, it's not as bad as I or any other reviewer makes it sound, AMOLED displays can still hang with the big boys.
Sense 4.0 to me on the HTC One X is much better to look at and navigate through than Samsung's stupid Touch Wiz. I hate Touch Wiz with a passion, but some people like it just as they hate Sense. I might be biased in this because I've been a fan of Sense since the Windows Mobile days. But when it comes down to simplicity, iOS on the iPhone (I'm using iOS6) is so easy to use and is very straight forward. The ease of use and the plain looking operating system is probably the biggest reason why people get bored with it and want to venture into using an Android based device. It's true, iOS is boring but most people use smartphones only for text, email, social networks, music, and to browse the web and the iPhone does all of these very well. Nothing fancy, no need to customize, and don't need a widget.
Both the Samsung Galaxy and HTC One X are as fast and smooth in navigating through the phone as the iPhone 4S, I actually feel that they are both faster. And if you live in an area that supports 4G LTE, the you're in for a treat on how you fast you can grab data off the internet, download/post photos, and stream music over the air without having any buffering issues! Also, the larger display screens (especially on the HTC One X) are great for viewing photos and for reading. After using the HTC One X for about a week, it's hard going back to the iPhone.
My recommendation at this point is that if you don't have an iPhone 4S right now because you can't wait a few months and want a phone that supports a fast network and has a great camera, I would go for the Samsung Galaxy S3 because of all of those reasons. It may might not have the build quality and the screen of the HTC One X but to me, that MicroSD card slot and camera are huge selling points. If you have an iPhone 4S right now, just wait a few months too see what the next generation iPhone has to offer and then make your decision. The iPhone 4S is still a great phone for 2012 so don't make any rash decisions at this moment unless you are really that bored and underwhelmed with how iOS6 is so far.
To be honest, you can't really go wrong with any of these phones and it's a matter of preference and how you want to use your mobile device. I like the Galaxy and the HTC One X because they are fun to customize and I can make the phone operate how I want it to. The larger screen and LTE capabilities of these phones make a huge difference especially when on the road where WiFi isn't always available. I like the iPhone 4S because of its simplicity, apps, and how it's a great smartphone overall. The iPhone may not be the best phone at the moment depending on who you talk to, but it definitely has set the bar for mobile devices which is why we are getting awesome gadgets like the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3.

You realize this is the international One X forum and none of will be "in for a treat" because the phone doesn't support LTE. There's a comparison thread going in the SGS3 forum where this would be more appropriate. Especially with it being the phone you're recommending. The comparison threads here have been closed. Two last week.

I'm looking into getting this phone with VERIZON and just wanted to read some inputs of what you guys & girls think of your Galaxy Nexus 4G?
I'm currently rocking a HTC Evo 4G with Sprint but no 4G due to location (Miami) and I have 4 more days to decide if I should stay with Sprint or go to Verizon due to lack of Internet Services.
So yea, I'm a big fan of GREAT Camera phones. I see the Nexus only have a 5MP sensor. Does it compare or beats the iPhone 4S camera?
But I'm really digging Jelly Bean!
So let me know what ya think?
Should I rock the Galaxy Nexus if I leave Sprint..

That's why I said "Sensor" 5MP Sensor could perform better then other 8MP Sensor.
It can all depends on the (Aperture) of the "Glass"
So if the Sensor kicks low performance, the GLASS can make it pop. But not the other way around.
Thanks
The GNex camera is fine, everyone complains about it but unless you're trying to be a camera pro, its just fine.

I left sprint for Verizon just a couple of months ago. Left because of the same reason, my part of Ohio won't have 4g for an unforeseen amount if time. Couldn't be happier now though. the difference between my service is amazing. 3g and 4g is like night and day. Bottom line is I get better data speeds on 3g with Verizon then I ever did on sprints 3g. Unlimited data is great if you can use it, but I couldn't use Pandora, play music, or even watch a 3 min. YouTube video on sprints network with where I am, and there current levels of service.

That's good to know about the service & camera! Thanks...Any good or bad issues with the Galaxy Nexus?
May want to research battery life and screen issues.
Although battery life is very subjective, overall it seems as though people are having issues with it. There are extended batteries that can help with this issue so I would look into that as well.
There are problems with the Nexus screen ranging from banding to yellowish tints. Some people have exchanged phones multiple times and still have had screen issues, so this is one aspect I would definitely research thoroughly before buying.
I just ordered the phone so I can't comment on that, but as for service it seems anything is better than Sprint for data speed. I'm running far away from Sprint (and contracts in general). If I were to sign a contract I'd prob get the GS3... not sure if VZW has it.

Had pretty much the same scenario. 2 Evo 4G and ridiculous coverage. We both switched over to Verizon and a GNex. I wouldn't hesitate to call it an upgrade in every way. The camera has a lower mega pixel, but it takes better pictures, especially in low light conditions. The battery life is better in the overall, but that may be related to better signal strength. Nicer display on the Nexus and it's definitely snappier. Verizon LTE is leaps and bounds beyond Sprint's 3G coverage. I would definitely give the Nexus a shot.

Hey, thanks for the info...Do you know of a link that I can see the differences between the two. Galaxy Nexus & Evo 4G?
How much snappier can it be from the EVO. This Evo is pretty bad azz when it comes to performance and picture quality.
I would love to see the difference in photo quality & performance!
HTC Evo 4G has a lens aperture of 2.2.
I wonder what the Galaxy Nexus has?
They both run 1.2 dual-core processors with 1gb of ram?

something about the camera since you asked how it compared to the iphone 4/s camera.
at dave n busters i could take pictures with the flash off and they were fine, and with the flash they weren't washed out or blurry.
the iphone needed the flash otherwise it was all dark, and almost all the photos were blurry or washed in flash.
and then that fast shutter speed on the nexus, i can snap a quick shot faster than the iphone (multiple shots in a row, and a few other things are when this is most useful)
I used an iPhone 4 before I moved to a Gnex. And, I still kind of prefer the image quality from my iPhone 4.
To me, it just seems as though the Gnex isn't quite able to capture all of the detail; its just slightly a bit more blurry. This is when you zoom in in your picture (i.e. after I've taken the picture).
The camera lens was changed with the iPhone 4S so I would think there's an improvement even over the iPhone 4.
That said, the picture quality from a Gnex isn't terrible but it could be a lot better. Hopefully, it's something that's changed with the next gen.

Thanks for the replies! The reason I asked compared to the iPhones is because in fact I came from the iPhone family and know the quality of both the iPhone 4 and 4S. My girl currently owns the 4S. I have done the comparison between my current phone HTC EVO 4G LTE. There is no dought that the EVO 4G LTE takes the leap over the iPhone's.
I wanted the input of the Galaxy Nexus 4G cause I don't know how it stacked up next to the iPhones. I had a feeling one of you was going to say that the details on the iPhone 4 pictures is just peppier more then the Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE .
And knowing this makes me assure that it will not be as crispy as the iPhone 4S.
But yea thanks for the input on the camera of the Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE.
If the question is specifically about comparing cameras, the 4S has a better camera than my GNex, but my GNex takes pretty good pics. It may not be stellar but it's good enough for my purposes.

Cool, Thanks! The moral of my question is how does the Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE stacks up to the Evo 4G LTE in general? Would it be worth to "downgrade" sorta say?
So I'm trying to decide between a nexus 7 and an ipad mini retina that is due to hit the stores soon and I was hoping someone might be able to provide me some information that will help me choose.
I'm in a long distance kind of thing and mainly getting a tablet for video chatting with my girlfriend when I travel. She uses an iphone and I have been reading that apple generally has great camera and along with facetime, it trumps any other device + skype. But since nexus 7 has the same 1.2mp camera in the front, I was wondering if that statement still holds true.
Will anyone who has had experiences with facetime and nexus 7 + skype be able to comment? Especially the video and call quality over a 3G network.
Thank you very much!
I use Hangout with family when on the road. Just something to consider. I don't use Skype or face time...

FaceTime is "little bit" better than Hangout but I never try Skype.
I try to compare Facetime on my MacBook Air 2011 with my girlfriend's iPad Mini, and Hangout on my Nexus 4 with my girlfriend's Nexus 7 2013. We agreed Facetime is better than Hangout. Both of us are under Mobile network. I share the 3G from my Nexus S, and my girlfriend share the 4G LTE from her iPhone 5.
Hope can help u.
