htc touch pro 2 (rhodium) USA in ITALY - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hello everyone,
Sorry if my question may have already been addressed by a search but I could not find any answer.
Short Dorei buy a HTC Touch Pro2 brand T-mobile to an interesting as subscriber with T-Mobile .
consulting the datasheet of the American gem I found a big difference compared to the Italian provider in particular as regards the frequency band of the 3G ...
htc USA:
network
HSPA/WCDMA 1700\2100 mhz
Up to 2 Mbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
htc ITALY:
Network
HSPA/WCDMA europa\asia 900\2100 mhz
Connettività di rete e frequenze di bandaHSPA/WCDMA
My final question then is:
real problems that I have if I buy this cell in daily use in USA in Italy?
work exchange data file at high speed even here?
there is the possibility of putting a pretty comprehensive Italian Rom despite a U.S. product id?
I'm doing the right thing or I'll regret?
thanks for your attention, I hope that maybe someone with a HTC Touch Pro2 bought in the USA can help me understand.

please help me!
please anyone can help me on this particular product?

the T-Mo US version will work just fine in Italy. The 2100 freq. for 3G is used by Vodafone, TIM, 3 Italia and Wind. When in the US the TP2 will use for 3G the 1700 Mhz for T-Mo. 3g network.

850/2100 Variant

Good Evening Folks,
Is there a chance of an 850/2100 variant being released, like HTC did with the Touch HD for Australia's Telstra's NextG (850/2100) network?
I'm from New Zealand and a new 850/2100 network is launching next week. I would love to have the Touch Pro 2.
The word here is that if there is a variant released for AT&T, then us down under folks can use the same model, via an unlocked model from Expansys.
Cheers!
bumpety bump
I'm with you. I use NextG and it p1$$es me off that none of the phones work properly unless Tel$tra bothers to support them. Given that they have picked the HD, they probably won't support this phone.
That said, apparently the inards of the TouchHD, Diamond2 and Pro2 are identical - only the case and features differ. So... maybe one of the talents folks in this community can extract the Radio ROM and port it across. Don't know if that will do the trick .. what do you think???
i was reading that the touch pro 2 may in fact come with 2 radio roms, fingers crossed, somewhere in the htc world, an 850 variant will be released unlocked for aussie's nextG and telecom's XT networks!
the tp2 will be sold by expansys as of 12 june 2009. it will be the default 900/2100 version. in new zealand, the new XT network will be 850 everywhere and 2100 for the large cities. i know it would where i am, but having it die soon as im out of the city limits is a killer.
cmon HTC! give us our 850 variant
The AT&T version was just leaked on engadget and has 850, 1900, 2100 3G.

Touch Pro2 in stock on expansys-us.com

I just saw this on expansys-usa with 17 Touch Pro2 in stock. The details sheet seems to be a world phone. Below is the link. Does anyone know if this unit would work on AT&T 3G network in the US?

Thanks, Nick

This has already been answered before.
The Rhodium they are selling only supports 900 MHz and 2100 MHz for 3G/HSPA. AT&T requires either 850 MHz or 1900 MHz. So the clear answer is No, it will not work with AT&T 3G.
To answer the obvious question somebody else will ask next, the 2100 MHz band is used in T-Mobile's 3G network, however TMo's network requires that the phone support both 1700MHz AND 2100MHz for the up and down streams, so this phone will not function with the US T-Mobile 3G Network either.
The phone WILL function for making calls or data connections over the Edge bands (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) for both US providers...So the phone is certainly functional, but it won't make high speed data connections in the United States.
If anything I've written is incorrect, please mock me

Touch Pro 2 T7381 on Rogers 3G?

Hi guys,
I've been reading up on Rogers 3G support and i understand that rogers uses 850MHz for their HSDPA am i correct in this assumption?
On that note would the Australian Touch Pro 2 T7381 work with Rogers 3G since it utilizes 850Mhz band for HSPA?
This is the network specs of the phone
Network
HSPA/WCDMA:
Australia & USA: 850/2100 MHz (Fully support Telstra Next G Networks)
Up to 2 Mbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz (Band frequency, HSPA availability, and data speed are operator dependent.)
Keeping in mind that this phone doesnt support Rogers HSUPA on 1900MHz which i am lead to believe is Rogers 3G uplink frequency
Mine works on AT&T
My 7381 from Telstra in Oz works a-ok on AT&T 3-G. I think all of North America has the same network specs...
Hi there,
I just bought that phone from Australia and I am 99% sure the 3G will work with Rogers/Fido.
@ craiglevett
Ohh awesome... i'll await to see how yours works out
how much did you pay for for yours? the cheapest i've seen it for is $687 CAD
I think it will work according to wikipedia, rogers uses 850 MHz.
UMTS/HSPA on the 850 MHz band (Also known as 3G GSM)
let me know if it works, I'm planning to buy it as well..
Get the AT&T Tilt 2 instead, it will cost you half as much and will also support the 1900MHz band.

I don't like the keyboard layout though, I like having dedicated number keys. Aso, it's not half, it's about the same...
yeah the tilt 2 keyboard layout is ghetto... they've totally ruined the phone by have it in that layout and in blue colour. What were they thinking?

Will HTC Desire works with Rogers 3G network at Canada ?

Hi everyone,
I want Desire so badly
I asked the HTC if they are going to make one for north America
They said
"I certainly understand your interest in the newest in HTC's family of smart mobile devices. Regarding the Desire, all that has been announced at this point in time is that it will be broadly available to customers across major European and Asian markets in early Q2. The HTC Desire will be exclusively available in Australia through Telstra. Nothing has been stated yet about any possible release in North America (including Canada), although I do feel the need to point out that no announcement at this time certainly does not mean that it will never be available over here. For the latest news, keep an eye on htc.com and our Twitter account at twitter.com/htc. "
and then I went to Rogers and asked them this :
Hi, I was wondering if the HTC Desire will work with 3G bands frequency
of your network ? HTC Desire 3G bands frequencies are 900/2100 mhz
the answered me with
"The 3G frequency that we are using is 1900 and 2100. It is likely that
the phone you are inquiring about will work on our network on the 2100
3G frequency, however we cannot guarantee it because we can't guarantee
full service with phones that were not purchased from Rogers as they
were never tested on the Rogers network."
So what do you think , will it work
right now am
anyone can conform this .

HTC DESIRE 8181 V's 8183 NEXT G DESIRE:

i found this on another forum. thought it be good for the confused ones thinking of buying. hope this explains a little better
So your looking to pick up a HTC Desire of eBay reasonably soon.
Is there any difference between Aus (delivered/imported 8181 Desires on eBay) vs NextG 8183 branded HTC Desires sold on eBay ?
because The NextG 8183 ones on eBay are currently fetching approx $100 more than none NextG 8181 Branded ones.
Q:
Is there any difference between Aus delivered/imported Desires (on eBay) vs NextG branded HTC Desires sold on eBay. From what I can tell they should all support the same frequency space, so there shouldnt be any difference.
A:
There are two different models of Desire....
Telstra sells one that supports UMTS 850/2100 The actual Telstra Next G branded ones have got some Telstra "Apps" loaded into the ROM which cannot be easily removed, however they are simply links to Telstra services. They are unlocked.
Models sourced overseas usually support UMTS 900/2100, which won't work on NextG.
Pick wisely.
Q:
The NextG Versions will still operate on Optus/Voda/etc right? The frequency ranges all seems to match up. Some online stores are selling NextG and none NextG versions, just dont want to shoot myself in the foot.
A:
Yes, the Next G version will work on Optus 3G, but only in metro areas. It does not support the 900 MHz frequency used by Optus or Voda in regional areas, meaning outside city, you'll only get 2G.
It does not support the 900 MHz frequency used by Optus or Voda in regional areas
Hmmm ok, thats weird because according to the HTC Site (and this is where im getting confused) with all the "Exclusive to Telstra NextG" Branding, it supports the following
HSPA/WCDMA:
* Australia: 850/2100 MHz
GSM:
* Australia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Q:
Do they cripple the NextG version and rip out the 900mhz ?
A:
Australia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Those are GSM frequencies, not UMTS.
To make it abundantly clear:
Telstra specs:
HSPA/WCDMA:
•Australia: 850/2100 MHz
GSM:
•Australia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Optus specs:
HSPA/WCDMA:
•Australia: 900/2100 MHz
GSM:
•Australia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G is around the world but Yes the US carrier At&T use it..
To help you, AT&T use the 850MHZ band while the other mobiles providers (ie T-Mobile) all use the 900 etc if you are grey importing a US phone the rule of thumb is if the phone works on AT&T then it will work on Telstra 3G network..
Telstra have two different 3G networks and they are 'branded' differently, yet they are both technically 3G at the end of the day.
1. Telstra 3G = 2100mhz, is only implemented in metropolian areas.
2. Telstra NextG = 850mhz, is implemented Australia wide and superceeds their 2100mhz implementation.
As you can see they are both 3G. The NextG branded product has more bandwith available to it, (not that 2100 doesn't have enough, just the way Telstra's implementation is).
Speed wise, telstra do have the fastest network, but in time, others will catch up. NextG is not some magical creative, even if Telstra subtly make you think that.
The issue with handsets is that they either come in 850/2100 variants (i.e compable on Telstra 850 3G) or 900/2100 variants (compatible with other networks in australia including the Telstra 3g branded service on the 2100 network).
Futher, this is not to be confused with similar GSM frequencies (then you get 2G coverage)
Q:
So is NextG just better coverage, or is it faster too? I was lead to believe there was a speed increase.
A:
Both.
The downside to having more coverage and web speed, is being stuck with Telstra..
If you have voda or Optus, you need the desire A8181.. if you're with Telstra you need the A8183
I have Optus meaning my phone model is A8181 & it's $100+ cheaper
CHEERS:
This is well written explanation, I'm sure it/has helped many ;-)

Rural coverage for HTC Desire with 3 Mobile
I just want to clarify if the same is applicable with 3 Mobile as Voda have meraged. I'm a 3 customer and I'm moving to Trentham, Victoria. 3 and Voda have said there would be call and text coverage only in the area. 3 is bringing out the Desire later this month but I don't know which one. I've been told there's more Telstra towers in the area but will not swap suppliers as I have a good plan from when they were Orange. Thanx for the help.
If you get an 81 and use telstra, it will be slower.
if you get an 83 and use a Non-telstra network, it will be slower.
If you get an 83 on telstra, Root and grab T-Mod.
Simple! XD

Hi there.
I am confused. I am thinking of getting A8183 and am a vodafone user. Will 3g work for me?
I'm pretty sure it says above only in metro areas mate
Sent from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA App

vodafone going 850mHz
I have the 8183, rooted and running on LiveConnected (Optus). I have very little drama with mobile internet, regardless where I use my phone around Cairns.
I find I get drop outs if I venture too far west, but north to Pt Douglas/Mossman, inland to Atherton Tablelands/Millaa Millaa/Malanda and all the way south to Townsville (including Hinchinbrook region), signal is strong and on song.
I have never understood people that gripe about their 8183s not working properly on other networks...unless they happen to live in Oodnadatta, there should not be an issue.
