O2 XDA 2S Contacts list problems

Hello I have an o2 xda2 s running Win Mobile 2003 se that is about 1 month old.
I have a problem. If I use the contacts app to dial a phone number, the contacts app locks up and will only work again after a re-boot. This is getting a pain because I dial my contact numbers in this way.
Whilst the contacts app is locked up the rest of the pda and its applications work fine.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

what plugins u have and what SIP method are u using?
Hi you mention SIP what do you mean?
I have no plugins installed, and only a few extra apps. TomTom Navigator, closeall app, uk postcodes for TomTom, Checkpoint. Thats it a basic standard installation with a few extra apps.
Cheers
Fatzzz
keyboards program, do u use any?
ie tengo
spb full screen keyboard
resco keyboard
No, I only use the standard on-screen keyboard.
Thanks
Fatzzz
Guyz,
I have exactly the same problem.
I was using pocketNav..and i realise if i close the contacts using pocketnav (which i have to do everytime), it randomly stops working.
Do not know if pocketNav's the culprit, but it's a great app that closes applications quickly..
Again, a soft reset solves the problem..but this isn't the long term solution we all want, do we? hehe
Hope someone can shed some light on this issue..
Cheers.

Vanishing emailaccounts after install Jasjar update

Hello,
I update my MDA pro to the new imate ROM but my emailaccount keep vanishing after a softreset has anyone any clue?
Thanx
same here
but on my device it was like this also before the upgrade?
which device dou you have, and which rom you had before upgrading to the jasjar rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=161019#161019
dont soft reset using a stilys. Use a program to allow flush the file bufferssss
yeah, thanks but.
i know that and honestly i still have to try it. BUT:
I just want to know WHY this happens, and WHY other users with the same ROM as mine is DONT have this problem.
And, if i incidentally do a Softreset or maybe take out the battery, i lose my account again! thats not a solution for me.
Anyways thanks for your hint . apreciate that.
can you confirm my thought about the battery? or maybe its REALLY losing the accounts just after a Stylus reset?
It hapened to me time ago.. Some programs, like outlook, dont flush their databases buffers each moment. So, if you create a new account, or delete some mails or sms (this actions modify the database files managed by outlook) and then you reset your pda using the stylus, many buffer may be not empty so you loose that information. When you reset your pda using a program (it uses a API funcion that allow the buffers to be flushed to their files) all the information is saved in disk and you wouldnt hava to loose anything.....
thnx
thats was a clear explanation, thank you.
Any ideas why this happens only on some devices, even if they have the same rom?
I ve repeated the test right now. I have sent a email to my account in gmail(this account is configured in my jasjar). I ve connected using UMTS an and i ve downloaded the mail. then a i ve soft reset using stylus. When the device has booted i have launched pocket outlook and the mail wasnt there. I ve downloaded the mail again and a i ve done soft reset using a program (handy meny). When the system has booted the mail was there. Conclusion: I supose Outlook use the api fuction "CeWriteRecordProps" to update or insert a new record in the outlook database and probably Windows Mobile 2005 uses a buffer policy to reduce the access to these databases. so, if windows hasnt written this records fisically to disk then you can lose some information if you reset using stylus. When you use a program to reset, windows informs to the device drivers that "sleep" is in progress and they have to save the unsaved information so the disk driver has a chance so save all.
I hope Microsoft change this policy soon.....
so you...
...think this happens on all HTC Universals?
I think it happens in all Windows Mobile 2005 devices....
ok, i´ll let you know in the next days...
...then i´ll receive some more universals. and also one of a freind of mine, who told me that he hasn´t got this problem. i don´t know if its true, but we will see...
I don't know.I ve repeteated this test with my jasjar and my himalaya(with magneto) with same results
i can confirm...
...your description to 100% !
with a "soft"-softreset everything is fine.
and i´ve found out why other devices semmed to do NOT have the problem. Those users setted up their account, and had serveral (100+) mails ond their pop-server. Poutlook took a few minutes tu download headers and part of the messages. in this time the "buffer" was "written back" to the mail-db.
So: I think that for now, all the WM5, or at least all UNIVERSALS got this problem. Some user just don´t realize it.
Now that we (well,i) now that it is not a problem of just my device, FOR NOW i think i can live with this solution. btw, i use Pocket Plus 3 as task manager and Softresetter.
thnx dherrero.
Thanx DHerrero
After your tip I used spb pocketplus 3.0 and the softreset works wonderfully!
Thanx for the workaround hope they'll fix it soon because pocketplus makes the system very slow.[/list]
strange....
With Pocketplus my system runs fast as always, no problems at all.
Pocketplus
Probably due too a combination of software then.
I'll work it out if you say its not due too SPB Pocketplus
Thanx
you re wellcome. There are many programs to soft-reset the device "softly" and thye dont brake the system.... For example Hany Menu and much more..

Skb SMS Manager - Password Protect Your Confidential SMS Now !

Hello All,
I was looking for a software that could password protect sms so i came across a beautiful software that is worth installing but unfortunately it's not free. If you're interested, you could buy it. Here's a link to the software:
http://www.smartphone.net/software_detail.asp?id=3656
Also, here's a link for the Mobile Safety Suite by SKB
http://www.smartphone.net/software_detail.asp?id=3655
P.S: Google the " " for it if you'd like. Hint: PPC Version
I tried the software but could never get it to work. It just sat there trying to lock my SMS folder. I wound up uninstalling it. PPC crack I installed didn't work either.

Uninstalling MS Voice Command

Does anyone know how to uninstall this? When i try to do it on the phone or over Activesync I get a warning message that it could not remove all of the program and ultimately the entire program is still installed. It takes up too much room for what it does (and I think there's a battery issue with it as well) Thanks

Try using the Uninstall application of this program: http://www.dinarsoft.com/memmaid/ Once the program is uninstalled, just delete the remaining folders and then run the Quick Clean and that should remove all remnants of the Uninstalled program.
Thanks. It helped to remove mobitv and xmradio which were entirely useless to me and took up a lot of room. However, when I tried to uninstall memmaid it left a few bits behind - there are folders remaining in the program directory... in fact the MobiTv icon still exists in my program directory leading me to beleive that it's just deleting a folder and not removing the program from my reigstry, etc. It's a start though. Thanks again
Re: uninstall
This may be a silly question, but was VC cooked into the rom originally or did you install it yourself? If it was cooked in you will not be able to remove it. (As is true for any cooked in application.)
Best wishes,

Quick question; when using MemMaid, did you use the Quick Clean with all items checked? by default not all are checked.
Dead shortcuts
Dead Registry
Bad uninstall (files)
Bad Uninstall (Registry)
These are just a few items I would make sure are checked..
Thanks for the help guys. It was not part of a cooked rom and after checking the boxes on memmaid and rebooting a few times VC is gone (and 5 megs are free). After uninstalling memmaid (it's 900k - I can't keep that around ) it just left an empty folder called "Handyswitch actions" that I'm just going to manually delete. Thanks for the help. I was this close to deciding between keeping Skyfire and outlook

Sorry, during install of MemMaid you could of unchecked the handyswitcher and whatever extras you didn't need and they wouldn't have installed. Glad to see you has some success though.

You can't install MS VC to storage card and have it work correctly unfortunatly.
I've had same issue whilst installing MSVC to storage card and had tp install it to phone. I also had same problem trying to uninstall it. Luckily I wanted to upgrad my ROM which solved the problem
As I've been using my phone I learned there's a new glitch - if I use autocomplete to fill in text or complete an email address, etc it crashes my phone (I think pasting text does too). This didn't happen a day ago so I think there's a connection to the uninstallation of VC. I've reset it 5 times and it's always the same result. The screen becomes nonresponsive, switching to landscape mode takes about 45 seconds and doesn't solve anything and both the onscreen keyboard (Happy Tapping) and the hard keyboard fail to function. If I wait it out I can get the start menu to drop down and get to the Today screen but navigation is still brutally slow there and the email sits. I Use o2plus and it shows apps are running but doesn't state them (it's pOutlook that is frozen). Any ideas? I wish PPC had 'last good state' like Windows... thanks again
I have VC on my memory card and have no problem... Dont know why you have though.

Microsoft ActiveSync Unresolved Item

Hey guys ...
Everytime I connect and do my sync at the bottem in the Files folder above the Media section ... it says there is an Unresolved problem.
I am not certain what the problem is but when I click on that folder I get a list of things in another window.
I do not know what the unresolved problem is.
Is there a way I can find out ?
My TP2 is working just fine but would like to know what it is.
Thanks !!

There's a number of possible causes, here's a list that might help you pinpoint the cause (*note-this list is from an older post elswhere online about issues with older versions of winmo and activesync, but most of what it says still holds true):
"What Causes Unresolved Items
Unresolved Items are caused by a variety of different problems with the synchronization process. Here is a list of possible causes of unresolved items :
-One of the most common issues are that the files are open by another application on the desktop or the Pocket PC. I recommend closing all applications to avoid having the files open. In the Calendar, Contacts and Tasks as well as Email, a common problem could be a corrupted PST (mailbox) file. Using the program Scanpst.exe will allow you to identify any problems with your PST file and fix them.
-Another possible issue with Email is that ActiveSync attempts to convert all attachments and synchronize them. So if an attachment such as a .DAT file is not supported, the Resolve Items will be displayed.
-Also, if you place ink notes into your Calendar or Contacts, you cannot synchronize the notes to the desktop. The desktop does not support the ink format that the Pocket PC uses.
-Another source of unresolved items is a problem with converting Word or Excel files including as attachments to Inbox. You cannot convert or sync files with a password. Further if your documents are more complex than the converter can handle, your pc may hang.
-Another possible cause of unresolved items occurs when a user modifies a contact, calendar item or task on BOTH the PC and the Pocket PC. This is because ActiveSync identifies changes made on either the Pocket PC or the PC and synchronizes the WHOLE record. So it either replaces the record from the Pocket PC to the PC or vice versa. In these instances, you need to decide which version is correct. You can adjust this behavior in ActiveSync to indicate whether the item remains unresolved or is overwritten by the PC record or the Pocket PC record in ActiveSync (on the PC) - Tools - Options - Rules.
-Another source is when users are inviting users to appointments which do not exist on the PC (normally their home PC) they are synchronizing. In this case you need to either add the users to the Pocket PC and sync it with their PC or delete the invited attendees for the appointment. You cannot just add the user to your PC because the Pocket PC is looking for that specific contact that existed previously"

Thanks !!
will take a look.
My TP2 is running fine .. just that everytime I sync it would come up with that unresolved item.
One thing I did which seems to make my phone run really well as in speed ect... is I disabled the TF3D. Put on a new theme and I really love the phone now.
Being new I am not sure what the actual term is called .. but the drop down on the top right hand corner of the phone ( I take it as being like a sys resource percentage ) .. it used to be around 70% to 75% nd really ran SLOW. Now after the changes I did to the phone it will be at 55% to 65% and runs really fast.
Thanks so much !!!!

Glad to help!
The percentage you're looking at is a direct representation of how much RAM is being used at that time...the memory that your programs run in when they're active, just like on your home PC. That is generally used as the indicator for how bogged down your phone is or isn't at the moment, as you've noticed.
In the TP2, you can get the base level of that usage down even more by applying the two cabs I've attached below (just have to run them once, they apply some registry tweaks that disable some unnessary resource drains found in the stock ROM)
