I mention this recently in the 'cab' thread but I think it got lost in the rest of the discussions.
I have a SIM-free TP2 which I am using with a T-mobile UK SIM with web 'n' walk.
This has worked fine with Windows Mobile and even with the early Android versions. I downloaded apps from the Android market place without issue.
However, for the past couple of weeks I have not been able to download anything. I can still see all the apps in the market place but any downloads just stick saying "Starting download..."
GTalk doesn't connect either but I cannot remember if that ever worked.
So could it be that TMUK are blocking access somehow?
I know that when I almost bought a G1 from them they insisted that I upgraded to W'n'W plus and also I've never managed to find a GTalk client that works on WM but could they really be blocking non-official Android phones somehow? Or am I just being paranoid?.
R.
try disabling the proxy in connections
If you mean the proxy in the T-mobile APN then it is not set.
Also, I should have said that all the other communications stuff such as web browsing work fine.
R
I am having the same problem with the same phone and t-mobile, any ideas anyone?
Yup, me too. I think they must be blocking it. No idea why though .
Looks like it's not just us who are having the problem:

Looks like it's a t-mobile ****-up...

Good to know they're not "deliberately" blocking it at least

Market downloads still not working for me.
Waiting for WiFi...
R.
When i rang them, they said their content filter was stopping things like gtalk, android market and even youtube.
I got mine taken away although it didn't bother me before.
Same things happening now, Hopefully the 24 hours they say it takes to activate makes the marketplace work
Youtube works fine for me...
dbwun: What did you get taken way? I don't really understand what you mean.
R.
I took away the content filter tmobile puts on
For me, marketplace was working fine until a couple of weeks ago then it stopped.
What package do you have from T-mob? Web 'n' Walk or Web 'n' Walk plus?
I'm a little concerned that they may force an upgrade on me if I ring up and complain that my Android phone isn't working...
its just web n walk
i did read the posts on upgrading to plus, but unless i force them to give it to me for free theres little chance of me upgrading
Just installed the latest 0103 CAB and GTalk & Marketplace are both working...
Not sure if this is just coincidence or if something has changed...
Don't know if this: "New file system to match other handsets and avoid apps installing to system folder." would have any impact on the functionallity of gtalk or marketplace.
Anyway, both now work via 3G & WiFi.
R.
Thats wierd, same here.
Gtalk works and now marketplace.
Suppose thats great now.
A little off topic but have you tried using the starfield live wallpaper app.
I can download it, but I have no idea how to run it?
Just do a long-press on the home screen then choose Wallpapers then Live wallpapers then Starfield...
R.
Yup, all working here too. WiFi & 3G .
Can't wait for sound now and I'm all set for everyday use.
Just got my HTC Desire today and everything is working fine apart from the android market. I have 3 problems:
1) I don't have the paid apps tab only top free and just in. I can see paid apps within the just in section, but not top paid apps.
2) When I clock on the install button I get a blank screen with just the background gui showing for at least 10-20 seconds before the confirmation screen that shows what permissions the app needs is finally shown.
3) Apps install correctly however they never get removed from the "currently downloading" list in the Downloads section of the android market.
I got the phone through virgin mobile and I am currently using a t-mobile sim in it. I have tried doing a factory reset which didn't solve the problem.
Anyone had any similar issues?
Liam
Please search before posting.
Your problems will be solved by removing t-mobile content lock. It can be done through their website or by calling customer service.
One problem will remain though: so far no one can see copy-protected apps because market is not recognizing our build number. It should be solved soon though.
Hi,
The phone actually came from Virgin Mobile, but for the moment I am using my old T-Mobile sim which used to be in my G1 which didn't have any problems with the market. I seem to remember de-activating the content lock when I used the browser for the first time on my g1.
I just checked on my t-mobile account details and I definitely have the content lock turned off.
I still have the same problem with the market, i.e. I get about 20 seconds of blank screen after clicking install before the permission confirmation details come up.
And after an app is installed it still shows in the download section as installing with the grey progress bar and doesn't disappear unless I go to the settings/Applications and clear the cache in download manager, market and force close the market app.
Anyone have any similar problems? I have done a full factory reset three times, still the same problems.
Liam
I just got mine, its a open one unbranded. I can neither connect to gtalk or download apps, both hang. I have read similar problems for the Droid, but the fixes dont work for me.
Also can you connect the device to the internet via the PC, like windows mobile ?
That's odd. My problems were solved by removing content lock.
Does the same thing happen on WiFi? Did you try to restart the device?
Regarding PC to phone tethering, it's not possible over USB. There are guides on how to do it over WiFi though.
Its the same for me : confirmed that content lock is off.
and still have this problem.
On Tmobile, upgraded from G1, same sim.
I get this on wifi or not.
If I restart the device, the Market Place states its installed correctly (like it should do). But installing another shows the same problem.
I've done a Factory Reset via the menu and that did solve it.
And I've just phoned tmo tech support, and they recommend resetting via fastboot.
I'll give that a go later, and post back the results.
Any other ideas?
Its really weird. Yesterday at a different wifi location it worked fine. But again its not working in work. I assume then the downloads are being blocked by the service provider, or the router.
Thats really crap you cannot connect to the internet via the USB cable like in windows mobile. I cant get my data service working either - so in work I have to work.
ok, I did a clear storage from the fastboot menu, I assumed that what he meant, had no effect.
but figured it out!!!!!!
its my gmail/Google account thats the problem! if I reset the phone and created a new account it works fine. log back in as me, bang. back as previously created new account, fine.
1. is this the same for other people?
2. the people who are having this problem, are you all previous Android users?
3. if so, what phone? me was G1.
I will have to raise a bug with android or google on this.
I now also have to ring back tmo and tell them this info, as I'm guessing by his language he want to take the phone back in.

Beware that while most apps like gmail, calendar, contacts, etc work using port 80 (HTTP), both google talk and android market use different ports.
In my school network I can't connect to gtalk or download from market because they block those ports on the firewall.
I previously had a g1 and think the problems I was having had something to do with my gmail account but it seemed to resolve itself after several factory resets.
I am not convinced that the factory reset was what fixed it, I just think it needed a bit of time to sort itself out.
I wonder if having a new device with the same gmail account causes the issue and it takes a while to recognise the new device. though that doesn't really explain the behaviour I was seeing.

I cannot find a way around this.
My google account shows the slowness and install problems, a test/temp/dummy/other account does not, I do not want to change my email address!
So I have emailed Google, see where that gets me.
Anyone know/think-of any other routes?
to: [email protected]
I am having problems with the Market on my new Desire. I previously had a G1.
1. When I select Downloads tab, it takes about 10 seconds before the loading text is displayed.
2. When selecting something to install, the 1st info page with the install button is displayed but with no info/text/etc, ie only the install button, again about a 10sec wait and the info shows fine.
3. When selecting install, the security confirm page is displayed but is blank, no text or buttons, another 10secs and its displayed.
4. If I actually go to install an app, it correctly redirects me back to the last market list page. From there if I go to Downloads, after the 10sec wait, it always states "installing", even when its finished, and pushed a notification up.
I can use the app, but the market always states installing. Even hours after. These all queue up and never clear.
Only rebooting the phone clears the installing app, and correctly marks them as installed.
5. Uninstalling app cannot be completed at all. I select uninstall, and it pops up the confirmation box, but then displays a blank page, and after the 10 or so seconds, displays the "Uninstalling application" with progress bar, but never completes. Again only a reboot corrects this.
All this occurs for any app.
I have done many Factory Resets from software, and Clear Storage from Fastboot.
Interestingly, my phone works corrected with a new account, I reset the phone and instead of signing in with my usual account, I created a new one, this worked very fast and correctly. Signing back in with my normal account again showed the same problems.

same problem here, gone from a G1 to HTC desire not tryed to sign up with a new account simply becasue i had the xxxx.xxxgmail mail now for over 18 months and rely on it.
All I know is that the day after I got my Desire, probably about 24 hours after first turning it on (and after 4 factory resets which may have nothing to do with it) I was installing an app, which had the same problems i.e. delayed permissions screen, remaining in the download screen even after being installed succesfully, then a few minutes later I went to install another app and it was fine, no delay, suddenly I had the Top Paid apps tab and apps did not remain in the download section as still downloading. It has been fine ever since.
It seems that all of us who have this problem have had G1s previously so it must be something to do with that.
I experienced this issue with my new desire but not one with older rom. Both from T-Mobile. The funny thing was first day it was running pretty slow, could not view paid apps either but now it is much faster as it should be and paid apps have appeared too. So it's working brilliantly.
i have market problems too... i cant see many market apps, including paid apps which i bought..
it's a free desire with vodafone spain sim.

That's a different issue, apparently Google have not yet added the HTC Desires "fingerprint" to some kind of database that enables access to apps with copy protection, this is why some apps you have previously purchased won't show up.
Apparently this happens with all new handsets, though why Google don't get this resolved before the phones release I don't know, as it doesn't give a great experience to the end user (HTC say they sent the fingerprint well before the phone was released but google haven't processed it yet).
Hopefully this should be resolved soon. Until then I have had to extract a few of my more regularly used protected apps from my G1 with root.
But it happens to me with free apps too.

Any application developer can choose to use copy protection, some free apps choose to do that.
Hi All,
Just tried buying an app from the marketplace and got this message:
"Can't get this info right now, please try again later"
I just spent about an hour searching various forums, and there seems to be a real difference of opinion about what this message means. Some posters suggest that it indicates a problem at MS's end (i.e. they're doing maintenance, something is wrong with Windows Live etc), and so the best thing to do is sit tight. Others seem to think it is user problem, and you need to reset the phone, clear the history in IE, turn on/off cookies in IE, etc... Given I didn't change anything on my phone and this just started happening for no obvious reason, I'm inclined to think its an MS problem. Anyone else dealt with this? Advice would be helpful as I don't want to waste time trying all the suggested solutions online...
I have two devices (Trophy). One is OK, but the other the same that you. All are update with the february update...
Just spoke with Microsoft support and they weren't very helpful. Suggested it might be something to do with the IP address the phone is using (I'm currently in Canada, although my Windows Live / Zune account is in the US). That doesn't really make sense to me, as I have been using the phone in Canada since the Feb update with no problems - why should it suddenly have a problem with the IP address? Also, I can still use my Zune Pass...
Sorry my english. I uninstall all aplications with updates in marketplace in the device that not connect. But remains one: Xbox Live Extras. With this device I can't connect to Xbox live. ¿Can you connect to Xbox live? The another device that it's right connect without problems...
Today it works... This night made changes in the profile of XBox Live... But I dón't know if had been casuality...
I have the same problem with my hd7, in spain, since this afternoon i cant buy anything on the market place... xbox live works, zunepass works but no market i cant get nothing even free stuff does not work... any ideas?
Count me in on the Market app install problem. Been trying all day to install some apps and they won't. I get the same message as the OP.
quantum on att here. same problem off and on. i find that if i wait for a few seconds (as if to have the marketplace dumbware to finish loading), and then tap "install" it usually goes through. when it goes through, it says "purchasing" rather than showing only the dots.
Haven't had any problems since I did a hard reset and then "rebuilt" the phone with a Canadian Windows Live account. Can't access my Zune Pass on the phone anymore, of course...
Any chance the update did something to our phones? Has everyone posting here had the update?

Can anyone else confirm that the problem has now resolved itself? I'm not all that eek to hard reset my phone again and go back to my original live account if it's not going to make a difference...
I just got this problem now! grr, hard reset for no reason, ffs!
Hard reset and set up with US-based account. All working perfectly again. I suspect this problem has something to do with our Live accounts at Microsoft's end. If it happen to me again, I think I'll just wait for things to (hopefully) resolve themselves.
I was having this issue for a week now and fixed it today about 5 hours ago actually. I was looking to see what I may have done recently to cause the issue and I had cookies disabled. Once I re-enabled it, everything worked again.
Well it Works for me again...
Update with fix [Thanks jayclapp!]

Hi all,
Having an issue downloading anything from the android market on 3G. 3G works for everything else besides downloading from the market (browsing, email, sync, etc).
When I switch to wifi, I can download from the market perfectly fine.
I've tried a friends SIM with a different carrier, and it DOES work over 3G.
Logcat of the issue happening From what I can tell the error starts around line 50, but I included the full log in case it helps.
I'm not much of a developer so I'm just trying to determine why exactly it's happening, as Android simply spits out a pop-up with the useless message:
[App name here] could not be downloaded due to an error.
I have a friend on the same carrier with a Nexus S and she can download apps from the market fine. Haven't been able to test her SIM in my phone yet though.
I've found some others with a similar issue (although not restricted to only happening over 3G): http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android+Market/thread?tid=5a31588b6f655e89&hl=en
None of the solutions there helped though. I've cleared market data, wiped, factory reset, tried different roms, etc.
I'd really appreciate any help.
i'm having the same problem - using a galaxy nexus on tmobile. haven't had the change to try on wifi yet.

Glad I'm not the only one...
By searching pastebin, I've found a few others that pasted their logcats with the same issue, but I can't find wherever they posted it to see if a solution ever happened.
One solution I found was to delete / rename the .android_secure folder on the "SD" card, but I see that folder on my phone. I know dotfiles are hidden by default but I'm showing hidden files and I don't even see .android_secure from adb shell.
I'm on Mobilicity in Canada, which also uses AWS bands, not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I don't like bumping, but I still have this issue and was hoping someone could help out.
Sucks only being able to download apps over wifi.
I saw Josh Topolsky from The Verge has been complaining about this issue on twitter the last couple days.
www.twitter.com/joshuatopolsky
I've tried everything to fix it, tried different roms, kernels, wiping, factory reset, different SIM cards, nothing will fix it.
The 403 error indicates that it's Google's servers that are forbidding the connection...but I see no reason why they would, and it's not like I can change the IP address of what my phone is being assigned by the 3G towers.
Everthing was fine on stock untill i flashed revolution hd 1.3.1... I had the same problem with market but for some reason i enabled wifi and started downloading stuff from the market...then i turned it off and magic it worked thru att 3g...
I hope this temp solution might help you guys out or maybe it just worked for me
Ditto
I'm facing the same issue with a Galaxy Nexus (bought from Virgin) on Mobilicity in Toronto: market works on wifi, but not on 3g.
I'm having this problem too. With Orange in Spain.
But is not a constant problem. Sometimes works fine, and another ones not. When the error comes out I try again several times untill it works. If doesn't I whait to have Wifi.
But as I said it isn't always. But some type of bug is.
I got the Galaxy Nexus yesterday from Virgin Mobile and using it with my Telus SIM and Android Market downloads dont work using the mobile network but switch to wifi I can download from Market. I've tried everything you mentioned as well and still no luck.
I have noticed some delays in downloading but I am pretty sure it is becasue of the "little" 10 Billion Apps promotion thats causing the issues.. the market must be seeing a lot more traffic than it can cope with.. servers must be over loaded!
Try market at off peak times (worked for me)!
This theory syncs quite well with the 10 Billion Apps promotion.. just a thought!

Unfortunately that isn't the reason. It's definitely something more serious / buggy than simply too much traffic. It's been going on for almost 2 weeks now, well before that promotion even started.
Anyone feel like pulling a logcat and seeing if it matches up with mine? I'd suspect it does (403 Forbidden errors).
It basically boils down to Google's servers rejecting the connection for one reason or another. 403 error = The server is connectable, but knowingly refused the connection. It's something on Google's end, but I don't understand why certain devices are being rejected while others aren't.
Went to apn settings and removed the proxy and now i can download from market over celluar
Just wanted to confirm your fix worked for me jayclapp!
Updating the OP with the fix, in case anyone stumbles across the same issue.
Bumping up the thread but i believe it's for a good reason.
I had the same problem with I9100 after upgrading to ICS from GB. Talked to Google play support, their solutions weren't helpful (erasing cache and stuff) and they said it's a carrier problem. I used another SIM from the same carrier and it still wasn't working....
So.... Stumbled on this thread, erased the proxy and now it's working!!!
So, i'm bumping this thread so it will perhaps show up in google in a higher search position and to say thanks to the OP (besides the thanks button)
TL;DR : Use Market Access and if Google won't accept your credit card due to the address not being from a "supported billing country", edit the card details in Google Wallet and use a US address. Thanks to Anomaly for sharing his method.
I cannot find a way to purchase apps on ICS. The Market Enabler method does not work, neither does it's Fake On Boot feature. But regardless, even if the Market is successfully spoofed by Market Enabler, I cannot get past the "Accept and Buy" page. I'm always hit with something like "The item could not be found" or "Your country does not support purchases". Market Enabler method used to work fine on Gingerbread.
Is there another way you guys in non-supported countries purchase apps? This is currently my biggest problem with ICS and no one seems to have any fixes.
Logcat of the problem: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vF6X4L99u7Yug96pZ0-iWLkAZ81SIg2zKiPDd_rQsFs/edit
try Getjar and or Appbrain, see if that helps.
I emailed the devs of the market enabler app, and they seemed to think I didn't know what I was doing when I told them it didn't work with the GN. Maybe someone else will have some luck, I would love to have access to the TMO-USA shop.
I did the same thing but, got no reply. I will try again. I'm pretty sure it's an ICS issue. Google has changed something. Market Enabler worked fine on Gingerbread but, I could never purchase apps when I used it with ICS on my Nexus S.

Which Market Enabler did you use? The one by "rac" or the one by "Artou". Artou's won't even take root for me. rac's works fine and displays paid apps but, I can't purchase them.
Try MarketAccess, works great for me.
There is something strange with ME now, set on boot definitely does not work on ICS and most of the time doesn't work otherwise. I will try wiping data in the Market app and rebooting and 1 time in 10 it will stick and GoogleMaps will show up for me...but most of the time it doesn't work.
You need a USA card to purchase (which I have) but when not working not even free apps will show up.

Market Enabler 1.8.1 from For2w does not, but it works when I set it manually.

Hmm, can't seem to find Market Access.

Didn't work until I set it for Emulate on Boot. Make sure your data APN is setup and working before you reboot and you should be ok, changing it with market spoofing enabled will not work. If your data gets messed up you have to disable emulate on boot, reboot, reset your APN settings, and go again.

Lol, this is ridiculous. My phone says it cannot open the file! This has never happened before! And sideloading other apps is working fine!
Anyway, I'm using Market Unlocker which seems to have the same options plus it let's you proxy the Market through a US proxy of your choosing (Nicer UI too!) https://market.android.com/details?id=com.evanhe.marketunlocker . Since, according to the developer, the new Market checks your IP address as well. I even put the Market through TOR and used My IP to make sure I come up as in the US. Still no go! I suspect Google has maybe blocked/flagged me or something. Can't find any other explanation for this. When I get to my CC, I'm going to try a last attempt to use a different Google account with the same spoofing methods.
Thank you for trying to help.
It won't open from the "Downloads" app, browse to downloads in a file explorer and open from there...

Using Market Access now. No longer getting a "Purchases are not allowed in your country", now the message has changed to a consistent "The item you were attempting to purchase could not be found." or "An error occurred: Please try again."
So, I guess something's changed!
Try clearing your market data now that Market Access is installed and rebooting?

First thing I tried. Repeatedly. No go! I'm so frustrated. I'm thinking of just going this route: http://www.usunlocked.com/
Getting a virtual card with a US billing address so that I can use it on the web market as well.
Figured it out. Just flashed a new rom and it wasn't working, moved from Bigxie 5 to 6... one of the changes was restore from market now works. So I setup and some apps were coming down but I stopped to restore from TB. And Market Enabler etc no longer worked. Rebooting and clearing did not help.
So I removed my Google account from Accounts and Sync and then cleared data and uninstalled updates for the Market. Set Market Access to emulate on boot and rebooted. Logged into the Market (it asked for credentials) and back working fine.
Think it remembered from first boot and set my Google account to the wrong market.
