Reception issue with WM 6.5 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi,
I just tested out a couple new WM 6.5 ROMs (23009 and 21234) on my Toshiba G810 and noticed that I lose reception whenever the phone goes on standby for > 5mins. Whenever somebody tries to call me, it takes 4 rings until my phone finally detects the call but the kicker is after 4 rings, Rogers Canada automatically forwards the call to my voicemail (and this network ring setting cannot be changed).
Anybody else experiencing this issue on any device and have a workaround?
I have tried manually configuring the Network Mode to GSM + 850/1900 and setting the Network Selection to Manual but the problem still occurs. The only "solution" so far is reverting back to 6.1

Severe phone bug on XDA Live 0.10

I am just wondering if I am the only one suffering from this:
As I upgraded to XDA Live 0.10 ROM, my device stopped receiving phone calls. Strange but when I switch my device off, it turns on the light for incoming call. However, nothing really happens afterwards and I get no notification that a call is coming. I am not sure but I believe that this problem did not occur before I installed the HSDPA enable CAB. I tried to uninstall it as it was also causing my device to freeze. This did not help. Would love to know if anyone had this as well.
Noticed wit ROM GPS enabled
When I use the 1.35.0.11 and I launch an application that listen the COM Port where I have mapped the "GPS" I'm not able to received phone call.
Also take car that in GPRS/Edge (NOT UMTS) if dataconnexion is "really" acive (transimitting data) you are not reachable on the GSM network
I have an application that uses GPS but it is currently off. I also use Direct Push.
ok I found the cause. It is the Hebrew add-on.

Problem with WM6 (Official) and radio 1.43

Hi,
I am using a T-mobile vario 2 in the UK. I recently flashed the radio rom to version 1.43 and replaced the operator rom with the official dopod wm6 rom. Most things are working ok but I have run into a few problems; hopefully someone here can help me.
First (minor) problem when the phone is first turned on it asks you to select a country. UK is not on the list, only countries in south pacific area. Does this prevent me from connecting properly to my local provider? ie do I show up as roaming?
Next problem is that I can't receive my voicemail. I phoned T-Mobile to check the number and setup etc but everything is correct. The phone just tells me "The number you have dialed is not recognised" or something to that effect.
Finally my phone frequently looses its data connection. When you open internet explorer a popup message shows saying: "Unable to connect to network for an unknown reason..." I checked all of the settings and they are ok. The only thing that fixes the data connection is to reset the phone. Probably I am also dropping calls whilst the phone is in this state.
So can anyone help? I think it is most likely the radio rom at fault but it could be related to not being able to select the correct county.
Thanks for your help

try radio 1.47 which comes with the dopod wm6
Ok I followed the suggestion and have upgraded to radio 1.47 but I still get the same problems. At least I have only checked the voicemail so far but get the same message. It actually says "You have dialed an incorrect number..."
Any other suggestions?
Download and install the provider Cab settings for your provider.
Search the wiki for more information
I have already done this. The settings are correct.
Hmm, thanks for the advice... now sms doesn't work either. PS. whilst flashing radio rom I also changed to JJ's black satin.
Please can somebody suggest a radio rom that is known to work well on T-Mobile in the UK. ie. no dropped calls, GPRS, 3G and HSDPA all working, voicmail and sms working, I don't care about video calling.
Thanks
Matt
Mat,
I am on TyTn and I had the same problem after installing Dopod WM6 version + 1.47 radio - on the second day majority of programs requiring internet connection were returning in message 'Unable to connect due to unknown reason...'. Even Wi-Fi was not responding. Only Resco Radio was working ?!?!
Solved this by removing the GRPS Internet settings and updating them manually.
As to the dropping calls, did you try to switch to GSM (instead of 3G). This is a common problem if your 3G covergae is bad?
Since upgrading the radio rom from 1.43 to 1.47 I have not had the "Unable to connect.. for an unknown reason" message. So I guess this was either due to some screwed up settings before, or some bug that has been fixed between releases.
I don't know how to switch from 3G to GSM but I am not convinced that this is the problem since my push email works just fine.
Incidentally I have noticed that my phone seems to default to 3G but as soon as I open a page in explorer it jumps into HSDPA, once it finishes it goes back to 3G. Is there a way to make it stay in HSDPA or is this a bad idea for some reason?
With the above observation in mind I could be wrong in thinking 3G was not my problem. Perhaps my phone jumps into HSDPA to receive push email.
So how do you force GSM or even GPRS over 3G?
Please forgive my ignorance.
Matt
Ok found a setting in com manager/phone/bands/ changed from auto which was putting me on umts to gsm. Was this what you meant? I have gone from 2 bars of 3G and 2 bars of HSDPA when in use to full bars of GPRS. Internet browsing was definitely faster with HSDPA but do you think I should be able to receive texts now? I know I have missed some and they still have not come through.
This is weird, after changing to GSM my htc home plugin reports 2 unread text messages but when I open up the SMS/MMS folder ther are no messages at all.
???
I find the best radio rom for Tmobile UK is 1.27 - see the wiki.
For your voicemail, set the phone to dial your own number, it works.
Ive tried all the new radios and always go back to 1.27. I am currently running Schaps lates WM6 rom (3.57a I think)

Hi i'm on T-Mobile Uk Vario II currently using Black Satin & Radio 1.43 3g, hsdpa, sms, mms, voicemail all working.
Can only suggest reflash rom with somthing like Schaps 3.57a use his operator setting tool to set T-Mobile settings and use radio 1.43 and see what happens.
Cheers
It would appear that WM6 dialer strips the leading zero from the T-Mobile voicemail number +440507... giving +44507...
I have not figured out how to fix it yet.
For the voicemail thing, the dialer does indeed strip out the leading zero on the voicemail number - I spent hours trying to fix this and in the end, it was easy - just put an extra zero in the number (in network services) ;-)
I use Black Satin with Radio 1.47.00.10 and have no problems whatsoever but I'm still evaluating - I don't know if I've tried 1.27 yet so I think I'll look into that and report back the comparison.
You say you were having problems with data "unable to connect..." - I used to have this a lot and invariably, it was because my conection had somehow developed a proxy server - turned this off and it work after that (it usually happened after I synced it with my work computer)
Could the SMS messages be on your SIM or something? Not had this problem but have a look in SIM manager see if that can find anything.
The thing about HSDPA is that it isn't on all the time - the phone will stay in 3G until you or your phone initiates a data connection, then HSDPA will kick in for the duration of the connection then fall back to 3G - this is normal as your phone cannot receive calls and stuff while HSDPA is connected (I think - i'll look for clarification on this point - the phone will should drop the HSDPA when a call comes in).
Some people do report that data speeds etc seem faster when they mess with the band settings but I've not been able to confirm this and just leave it as it is.
If you don't get anywhere with your SMS problem, you could try the threaded apps that I've customised for t-mobile (links in my SIG) but be warned - any texts you have in your current SMS inbox will be inaccessible until you uninstall the threaded app. I'm using the WM6 one on mine at the moment and it works just fine for SMS and MMS.
Smiffy
Thanks for the replies guys!
I am now very happily running the 'normal' version of JJ's Black Satin rom and radio rom 1.48.
Everything seems to be working fine now. Adding the extra 0 into my voicemail number did the trick; so easy once you know how!
The data connection can still be slow occasionally. I think this is because if you have a weak 3G signal this overrides a stronger GPRS one. Sometimes the 3G signal is so weak it can't transfer any data and the phone just keeps trying in 3G rather than switching to the stronger GPRS signal which would work. This is easy the fix, just go into com manager and disable 3G (on the black satin rom at least).
Generally I am very happy and my device is finally working the way I wanted it to.
Once again, thanks for your help
Cheers

I use whats in my sig and it works well. I get the 3g/gprs battle at my house alot. Complain to tmobile regularly and they'll sort it out eventually.

Using WM6 VoIP and switching between WiFi and 3G

Hi there
Been browsing the forums for a while now hoping that someone else would have had this problem and there is a solution. In vain, I have started this thread.
I've been running various ROMs on my JasJam for a while now, but all of them seem to exhibit the same behaviour when using VoIP and switching between WiFi and 3G.
If I am using 3G, no problems using VoIP to make calls and I can happily toggle between "Available" and "Selected" on the Today plugin. Switch to WiFi, and everything still works as it should. Switch off WiFi, and the Today plugin changes to "searching" then after a while, "No service". Whatever I try e.g setting to "Never", disconnecting and reconnecting data etc, nothing works to get me back to making VoIP calls over 3G, except a soft reset.
I suspect there is something going on between the phone app, WiFi stack and session management, but that's the limit of my knowledge on the subject.
It would be great if there is a solution to this problem as it affects the useability of what is, otherwise, a very useful application in WM6.
Cheers

new HTC user here having a weird problem

hey guys
ok so i have the TP2 running WM 6.5 professional
ROM 1.86.401.0 (67102) WWE
ROM date 25/9/2009
radio 4.49.25.17
protocol ver. 61.44tc.25.32U
my service provider is Etisalat in the UAE
the problem that im having is that when i set the BAND to AUTO, it picked up the the 3G network...but problem is that it keep shuffling between 3G and EDGE. because of that it wont recieve calls. one fix i was told was to manually select GSM BAND. the call problem was solved because of that.
but since i have done this, i been having another porblem. after using internet to say update the weather tab, i cant make or recieve call, or send sms or anything. everytime i use internet on the TP2, i have to switch to AIRPLANE MODE and then back to PHONE its driving me nuts
anyone facing the same problem? or has a fix to this?
Switching between 3G and Edge is normal, because not everywhere you have good service.
But just to make sure:
When you set band to AUTO and you are switching between 3G and Edge, can you call someone?
I had problems with my HTC Kaiser in the UAE. Etisalat and Du told me they only can provide mobile internet to BlackBerries and IPhones...
yeah, when it is switching between 3G and Edge, i cant make calls and i cant recieve calls either. they say my cell if off while its actually on

Go into the Bands page (where you manually select the bands). Press "WCDMA" to enable 3G only. That will keep you in 3G, but if you go into a non-3G area, you won't get any signal at all.
EDGE can only handle one thing at a time. If you don't have an active data connection, you can use the phone (call, SMS). If data connection is active, you can't use the phone functions. So, if you're on a webpage and someone calls you, their call won't go through.
3G allows you to use phone functions and data at the same time. So if you're on a web page and someone calls you, you can answer it.
ok that was surprisingly simple.. thanks
Edge can only handle one thing at a time? I routinely get and make calls and browse at the same time (or get emails via active outlook push connections, etc). And this is both when I'm in Edge areas (eg when I go to my cabin in Montana (heck - ANYWHERE west of Milwaukee) or when I have 3G (around here).
This does, however, appear to be a feature strictly of AT&T. But I don't believe the inability to do simultaneous data and call is a hardware or even Edge technology limitation - I believe its a network specific limitation.
Having said that, my money would be on an incorrect radio or DLL hanging around in the phone...
(Standard disclaimer: I know nothing about non-US carriers or their oddities. I reserve the right to be wrong- a right I exercise somewhat frequently )
well i upgraded to WM6.5 so the radio is the one that came with the upgrade.nothing else has been changed.
have a feeling the problem is with the phone as my pervious phone, sony ericsson's P990i had absolutely no porblems switching from data to call and back to data without having to do anything.
one thing i noted is that once i start an internet session, it keeps running unless i turn the switch to airplane mode to force a connection break.

[Q] Cannot receive/start calls if WCDMA enabled

Hi
if i can't start or reiceive calls if WCDMA in the network mode (in mobile network settings) is set to GSM/WCDMA(auto) mode or to WCDMA(only). Instead
if I set to GSM(only) the calls starts correctly, but in this way the internet connection is slow (limited to 3G and not to HDSPA). Could anyone help me?
Anyone have the same problem?
I have the same problem. Which network are you with? I am with vodafone and I know that they have been able to rectify the problem in a different area. As far as I know, it is on their end, not the phones... Unfortunately they won't fix it without 10 people in a localised area complaining about it.
I have wind.
This problem Has appeared to me a couple of weeks ago. Before the phone worked with no problems.
so no reply?
