Navigon 7 updated to work with TP2 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi,
just wanted you to know that the guys at Navigon have updated their Navigon 7 so it now works with the TP2 out of the box without the need to install the Xperia Fix. Tested the new version yesterday, worked like a charm... They also adapted the images so they look very nice now at the TP2s native resolution. Their customer support is not that great though, so you better try before you buy

Avantgo on WM 6 / ozVGA Solution

OK I have Avantgo working again on Windows Mobile 6 using ozVGA - current base rom (used by everyone at the moment - thanks Alan!)
Below is the link to the old 5.7 version which works like a dream in ozVGA on WM6. Admittedly I havn't tried it on normal se resolution. You might end up with very large fonts. Let us know...
http://avantgo.custhelp.com/cgi-bin...p_tbl=9&p_id=451&p_created=1160685239&p_olh=0
By the way - SPB backup 1.5.5 (the latest version) also works correctly now in WM6.
Also DO NOT USE Pocket breeze as this does not work in WM 6 (Although it appears to until it eventually freezes up particularily once you load third party today plug-ins)
Regards,
Simon
on Helmis new ROM the Avantgo works fine without any tweaks

Prepping for GPS/Rev A ...

Well, it's March and that means that the Vogue is going to get GPS and Rev A soon! What are you guys doing to prep?
I'm trying to compare GPS software, seeing which one is the best out right now, so far TomTom 6 seems to be the top dog... Does anyone have any GPS advice?
I personally like iGuidance v4. The maps for my area were more complete than TomTom, plus it actually has voice street names instead of "turn right in 1 mile". Just wish it could get traffic updates.
IGuidance 4 for 3 reasons
TTS - Text To Speech (It can read street names, TomTom cannot)
NAVTEQ maps can tell you which side of the road your destination is on (this great for at night, TomTom cannot).
IGuidance does not lock you to your phone. Hard reset, get annother phone just install the cab and your up.
TomTom does have a nice user interface but the features above are important to me.
I was looking at a bunch of gps software recently (in anticipation of the aforementioned update) and found a few notable ones. Theres a nice roundup site by this sir Dale DePriest here http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/PocketPC/wince.htm I think is worth mentioning.
From the ones I've looked at, ALK Copilot 7 and iGo 8 (search igo8 in youtube, and I do believe version 8 is a beta) look the nicest.
thanks guys, pretty nice info... I'm hearing that iGo isn't exactly the most accurate app on the planet, but iGo v8 looks very nice!

I have CoPilot 7 because I had a Q and this was the best Smartphone GPS app out there. It has alot of nice features, but the maps weren't as current as iGuidance v4 (atleast in my area), and there's no TTS for street names (although their tech support says they are working on releasing a patch for that).
CoPilot can get live traffic updates and re-route you. You can also send a link to someone and they can watch you on a map as you drive (this uses the internet on your phone of course).

a little off topic here, but i'm using CoPilot Live 7 and i'd like to know how you activated Traffic updates...did you activate via the web?
I have tom tom on my touch already-just waiting. I'm also waiting for my 4GB mem card cause my current one is full with all the maps
Sorry i was out of touch (no pun intended) for a few days. Did i miss an official anouncement from sprint or HTC about the update to enable GPS ? thanks
gps/rev a update for the sprint touch isnt out yet and not for another 1-3 months

That takes us to June, but I've also seen maybe August.
I use tomtom 6 and Navigon 6.2 right now.. as far as interface goes.. Navigon is way way nicer. If you cant wait for the GPS patch just get a bluetooth gps reciever and start trying the programs out now.
my vote goes to iGO, tomtom close second.
pls any one here knows if jas jam have gps in it or not?
i heared it has gps impeded in it but need software to activate it...is the tru? and what to do to activate it ?
My big step is to move absolutely _EVERYTHING_ I setup or install to a cab file that is installable via User Customization. I want to be prepared to have minimal down-time, when the new ROM gets pushed by Sprint/HTC.
Presumably it will include a new Radio, which will probably be most-easily installed by flashing the entire ROM from Sprint/HTC. Then, re-unlocking, loading the stock ROM into a kitchen and dropping in SDSetup so that all my stuff gets installed and configured.
... in the beginning, I'll be fine with Google Maps and/or Microsoft Search and their (presumably) built-in support for the GPS.
The ROM Update you have all been waiting for...
After getting tired of waiting for HTC to make their website work, I did some digging around, and I give you [pause for dramatic effect]....
http://216.139.227.226/alltel/RUU_V..._NV2.00_PRL30008_0331_Ship_withSpecialNBH.exe
The link on their page does not work, but I just successfully downloaded this ROM.
Remember, this is for the Alltel Touch ONLY.
Hope it helps!
Does this Alltel ROM support GPS and Rev A? Can we easily port it (or just the radio ROM) to Sprint? Thanks in advance!
MJB
I know it supports Rev A but I am not POSITIVE about its GPS functionality. I know that the update for the 6800 [released at the same time] does, and since it updated the radio as well as the ROM image, and considering HTC was planning on unlocking the GPS radio in this handset, my ASSUMPTION would be that the GPS is now active - of course, I haven't been able to get it to work yet...

best navigator for hd

what is the best navigation program for touch hd?
Tom Tom 7,
I have 7.9450 and it works perfectly,
I use it since ive used tom tom's for pretty much all my navigation needs and like and trust the feel of it,
I beleive that Igo8 does work but there may be a problme getting it fullscreen
For me
Sygic 7.7
in general you can't say, which one is the best! you have to decide yourself!
for me it's tomtom7

Hello, Igo8 works but it requires more customization. I also have Tomtom 7.9450, it works properly and Mapshare is also working with Touch HD. Then I think the choice between Igo and Tomtom is hard, I suggest you to try
Hi
Check my thread on this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462723
I want a GPS that works fully legally and "legitimately". So far, TomTom 7 looks great BUT it is not available yet for the HD except through "tricks" - unless someone knows better than me on that ???
CoPilot looks very good but not yet compatible (http://www.alk.eu.com/copilot/compatibility.asp). But, many people have installed this from legally purchased packs for other phones (like HTC Touch) and it works fine.
For me, Route 66 is fully compatible: http://www.66.com/route66/index.php?cid=UK&act=1&prodid=5723 - check the "supported smartphones" list.
Route 66 seems to work very well. I think TomTom is marginally better but for my needs the Route 66 is fine.
My personal opinion is that Garmin mobile xt works best. It is designed way nicer then tomtom 6 and 7 if you ask me and does a great job when I navigate which is the most important part.
I agree with Torusy I have used Garmin XT on my Tytn2 and now my HD its an awsome bit of software with voice prompted turns and rerouting built in etc.
I think Garmin also is good - but is it not locked to the supplied micro SD card?
I have a 16 gig card and don't want to be forced to use a second 2 gig card.
I use iGO8 and it works very smooth....i think it's the best!
Have both Garmin and IGO8.Garmin is more simple to use and has better visibility(less details and settings on screen),IGO8 has much more settings and much better for tweaking and playing
Hi,
I have Garmin, TT7, iGO8 and Navigon 7. Navigon 7 is the best for me. It has the newest maps from Navteq (Q4).

I have installed Garmin Mobile XT on the micro sd card supplied with the phone so the software isn't locked for garmins micro sd cards or anything like that.
NAVIGON 7... smooth.. clear and easy. i like it much more than tomtom.
Garmin Mobile XT..................for me it works flawlessly.

whr to get GMXT?? doesnt need registration
Anyone know of any tweaks for the DESTINATOR gps software? I use that in India, and it is quiet stretched out on the HD, and even some of the buttons in it are not at the right place?
Thanks.
CoPilot is now listed as compatible with HD:

Try , mapking 2007 it works fine for me

Navigation software for Blackstone

Hello.
I'm looking for some navigation software for my Blackstone.
It would be great if the phone was fully supported i.e fullscreen 800X480.
Maps have to cover Australia and also New Zealand if possible.
Thanks in advance.
Frederik
IGO8 is the best!
or you can try Garmin
Hi,if you look all the official website, no navigation software are available for our Blackstone for the moment ( Navigon,Nav N go etc ... ) . After some cooked versions works but they are not really official ....

I like IGO, but I often got the issue that it leads me to road closed to car' traffic (or limited to residents only). Can be a real disturbance...
Alright. So.. which of these "cooked" versions is the best for Australia (and New Zealand?)
For your notice, Route 66 fully supports Blackstone(acc. to their website), but the price is sky high - 179,95$.
@Prerna
It is solved and works without problems, but it is necessary to make some modifications in sys.txt.
Igo 8 And TomTom
I have igo8 and TomTom 7 on my HD and i am happy with them both, they both look great on the big screen, but i think Igo 8 looks and works the better of the two, easy to instal and easy to use, very nice piece of software
Hope this helps
take a look at this post especially covering navigation in Australia:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3287626&postcount=26
Okay. But since none of these programs supports the WVGA screen, where can I find "skins" for this resolution?
And TomTom 7 isn't official yet?
iGO 8 work on Gurjon skin with all resolution...

Satellite Navigation on HTC Desire?

My first android phone. Moving from an Iphone 3g can anyone point me to a good satnav app for android? Tomtom doesn't have an app for android...
Also is Google Navigation available for the UK now? and will it work on the handset?
Co-Pilot is probably the best option currently available - not badly priced either.
Co-pilot all the way - had it on my HTC HD2.. Was fantastic, the Android version is identical.
Someone has tried Igo MyWay ?
I was using Igo8 under winmo and I would like to know if it's approximatively the same?
Been using CoPilot on G1 since its release... Very good satnav and with the Desires processor the slight lag you can get with CoPilot should be a thing of the past...
I've always used TomTom. The only thing I've noticed about Co-Pilot is the lack of a qwerty keyboard option.
Co-pilot is not a standalone application, isn't it?

What do you mean by stand-alone application? You can buy it separately and install it on to mobile phone, just like TomTom and others.
I am currently using iGo MyWay on a PNA with WinMo CE.
I must say I think it is the best navigation software I've ever used. (I've used TomTom, and Garmin before)... but of course this is just my subjective opinion...

I would say the maps are on the phone and the app doesn't need data connection to work So yes, just like TomTom.
Sygic has a very TomTom like interface, great maps, and has an Android platform as well as WM6.5.
The very kind people at CoPilot sent me a download to allow me to switch my CoPilot 8 from WM6.5 to Android - for free. I thought what was great customer relations, so one up for CoPilot!
Sygic is also cross-platform so the version I was using on my HD2 should work on my new Desire. Supposed to be easy to reactivate as it will be used on the same MicroSD card.

Oh, thats a shame, ill try it on tuesday when I get mine
I am also torn between Co-Pilot vs Sygic ... Which one is better, though choice.
For me, price does not really matter. What I want:
- Reliability
- The fastest one to get satellite LOCK
- Updated maps quite often (not necessarily the latest one, but they did update the maps)
I think we can have Co-Pilot trial version ... but unfortunately there is no Sygic in the Market, and I am not sure if we can request trial version.
CoPilot... Now tried and tested on Desire
Just had a play with CoPilot on my Desire and it works like a dream (not as in G1 dream, as in well)... smooth, fast and found no bugs so far...

What version are you using?
Has any body used copilot from the market place on an HTC Desire?
The version I tried before on my hero was rubbish and so I was waiting for TomTom. Now although I would still rather have TomTom I need a satnav and so am happy to pay for a proper copy of copilot but thought I'd check it works on my new Desire but it doesn't. I don't want to waste money so can anybody confirm the copilot UK version on marketplace does work on the new HTC Desire (preferably T-Mobile version to be sure).
Also anybody tried SYGIC (UK version) on the HTC desire. Many Thanks.

Similar reason why I wanted to know the version. There is another post here saying that it does work. Not a bad price.
