NEW T-Mobile TP2 Owner. GoogleMap Issue?! - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Just wanted to check with the other TMO Touch Pro 2 owners. Does anyone have issues with the "my location" feature in GoogleMaps? I constantly get your location is temporarily unavailable. It seems to be unable to triangulate radio towers, but is able to acquire location if I enable GPS. I have updated GoogleMaps and all but it's still unable to triangulate.
Loving the 3G so far!
Any ideas? Thanks.

Works good over here.....

Yikes! Really? The TMO rep gave me some BS that it was probably cause I had the old 19.99 total internet plan, and that I had to upgrade to the new $25.00 web2go plan or something, but I honestly don't think thats the problem..

Yea I know, with the GPS enabled, my location works, but with it disabled, it is unable to acquire through radio tower triangulation which was the old school way before gps came with phones..

alright, because the default one for the T-mobile Tp2 is a much older version. doesn't work very well at all.
and why do you want to use triangulation?

Well even though GPS is best..its not the most practical sometimes because it takes a while to locate you and it also eats battery power like crazy.
Triangulation can find your general area quickly and saves battery power too..

i get where your coming from now.
i cant find any option to use triangulation. but if you just do a quick search for a local cross street that will get you in the right general area. probably just as fast as well since we have this big awesome keyboard

thanks for your input, but whats really bothering me is whether it is because I have the old total internet plan and not the new web2go plan that I having this issue that others are not experiencing...if so, I'm wondering what other things may not work correctly for me...

I can confirm this issue as well. I have a grandfathered 5.99 tzones plan that I am using and so far everything works BUT for the my location (with GPS disabled) - it sucks
However, I am not that worried - this happened when I bought the Dash - my location did not work with the tmobile ROM. but when I upgraded it to 6.1 using a custom ROM, my location was back.
What truly sucks is that the my location works fine on my wife's jailbroken IPhone, on my unlocked Kaiser (custom ROM though).
So I am hoping once we have HardSPL and can get EnergyROM going here , my location should appear!

I thought i read online that google maps may not get location w/o gps when in 3g mode. If using edge, should work. The brief time i had the dash 3g, it did not work with 3g but if i was using edge it worked fine. Try turning 3g off and see if it works. I hope that something they do fixes it though.

Hi all, please help! I have the t-zone $5.99 plan and I have the T-mobile TP2,

True for me. That's what they did. I didn't protest though, since I wanted the 3G connection.
Even on Edge, the full $25 plan is wayyyy faster. It just is really faster. Maybe that's cuz of the power of the phone, though. But I'm happy.

So does your my locations work with 3g connection on and with the web2go $25.00 plan? Does it include txt messaging?
What APN is everyone using? The default on the phone used to be epc.tmobile.com, but I changed it to internet2.voicestream.com, considering that I was on the old total internet plan and maybe my locations would work then, but unfortunately there was no difference....anyone else do the same?

Yes, I am cheap. But, why pay $24.99 for 3G when you can have it for $5.99. I been using my SE TM506 Bluetooth connection to my eeepc for 3G for a long time and I am getting over 150KB speed all over the city. I love the t-zone plan and love to be cheap.

I got the $25 plan because my family plan already has TXTing in it. The only difference between $25 and $35 plan is texting. Otherwise they're identical.
I left it on the default APN. Never touched it. Those voicestream connections were always slower, for me, so I don't use them. epc.tmobile.com is the way to go.
And Google Map's locate me feature works fine with cellular triangulation. Mine was defaultly using that, when I installed the new version of Google Maps. Something must be going weird with your setup. Idk.

virtual blackberry

the virtual blackberry for windows mobile 6. does it erase everything on your phone like the windows os and contacts and stuff? or is it just an application that you can run? or does it integrate blackberry features within the windows apps?
more details on this program?
It looks like it is an application
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2121074,00.asp
"Research in Motion will release an "application suite" this fall that will let some Windows Mobile 6 devices run all BlackBerry applications, executives said Monday. "
Also do you have a link to download it or no?
It also states that "The software will appear as an icon on the screen of a smartphone and will have the same interface as a BlackBerry. Users will be able to toggle between the Windows Mobile and BlackBerry interfaces, the company said."
The suite would sit next to, but not overwrite the existing Windows Mobile personal information management applications – so yes, that means you'll have two address books on your device which wouldn't talk to each other. If you have the BlackBerry suite running in the background, the BlackBerry phone and contacts applications will activate when you get a call.
Man, that's very old news: 04.23.07.
Did it come to happen or is it just the BB connect?
Cheers.
Yes, but is it out yet or no? Cause that would be nice once it comes out to have...
virtual blackberry is bbconnect?
is bbconnect the virtual blackberry you're talking about? if it is then i've downloaded it but hit a couple of snags... first of all tmobile won't let me switch to a blackberry internet plan...saying that my dash which is a wm device is not compatible with it... tried twice with two different reps...(because u need a blackberry plan to run this service)...and one question...even if i did manage to convince tmobile to let me have the bb plan, is it faster than edge?

Even Total Internet plan cannot let BB traffic go through?
nope....you would need bb internet plan to be able to connect to the blackberry service apparently...
Just go to tmobile.com and switch your phone to a blackberry on the top right corner, then call tmobile and add the service. This will make them think you have a blackberry. Trust me I work for tmobile so do this and then give a call to them.

No its not much faster the edge, its about the same speeds. Oh and you would need to switch your plan like cancel the internet plan and add the other plan for blackberry, but it will not be faster. In order to make the internet faster I would recommend using opera mini which runs in java and it loads pages much faster then internet explorer. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Quick Question

I am not sure if you guys know that you can now connect to WiFi and get better phone service. These new phones are called WiFi phones.
I was just wondering if there is a way to get the Dash to be a WiFi phone because I tend to get poor service in my area. Thank you.
wat do u mean wifi phones
Like phones that are able to connect to wifi and speak over wifi, for example instead of connecting to a tower you can connect to your wireless router and the router will act as a tower.
isnt that just SIP? like VIOP? is that what you are talking about?

Rogers here in Canada offers it on certain phones. They call it Talkspot. You can use your cell phone normally but then when at home you use your wifi network to make and take calls that don't count against you minutes. currently here it is only compatable with 2 phones. BB Pearl and Nokia 6086. You could also just use somthing like Skype on you phone.

BT do it that allows you to have an internet no. and if @ connected via a HUB\Router you can recieve and make calls via internet, the only problem is can't use it with WM6.1 since the software is not compatable.
Yah I know the Pearl does it because I work at tmobile, but what I was mainly wondering was if there was like a third party application program that would allow the dash to do it since it already has the wifi built in...

i know exactly what your talking about and to answer your question no you cant use the dash as a wifi phone t-mobile offers that service here in NYC where i live its called "T-Mobile [email protected]" ive had that service setup at my house. they send you a router and a phone and you pretty much use use your cell phone like a house phone with unlimited call to anywhere in the USA and Canada for a flat rate of 20 dollors a month. its like you said you use your mobile phone to connect to your router via wifi and you get good signal strength and you can take your phone to any Hotspot places (e.x Starbucks) and use your phone. but your limited to how far you can walk away from your router. anyways make a long story short.. when i was ordering the service they asked me what kinda phone i would like and they offered me some crappy Nokia flip phone and offered me the blackberry curve. i told them well i have the TMO dash that can also run on wifi and they told me the dash cant be used as a wifi phone i was pretty much pissed cause i had to pay for a new phone. well sorry for the long story but no the dash was not built to be used for that.

well I mite need all of you guys help My edge connection its extremly Slow.... to the point were mobile youtube its just to laggy and slow on the videos now I havent done a speed test but to see that mobile youtube should be ok because of the speed rate is low now I try with Tmobile Edge and Cingular Edge (my phone its sim unlock)
any help would be apriciated, and BTW Im not using proxy under my connection settings its connected directly to the internet.

dude...
its EDGE man edge sucks no matter how you look at it. thats why i thank god for the new G1Android phone that i will be holding in my hands in 20 days!!!!! that will run on 3G YAY!
I personally never have edge problems. I watch youtube fine, and I drive a truck so I am listening to Pocket Player (streaming radio) all day long. Its probaly an area you live in issue.
I would recommend getting the new Google Phone that has the 3G on it, it will be so much faster then EDGE for sure.

Yah that would be your best bet to do so, I mean you can always put it on ebay or craigslist and sell it for atleast 100 or so... maybe more because you can always put 6.1 on it and sell it with a few nice programs... never know... anyways good luck trying to sell it.
I have pretty good luck with Edge on the Dash, but for some reason Edge works even better on the Iphone.
I unlocked an Iphone and tried out everything on Tmobile Edge and everything was unbelievably fast..Streaming radio and the web worked beautiful.
I can stream Slingbox very well on the Dash via Edge.
Maybe you have poor signal?
Signal will have an affect on EDGE, as well as the city you are in... that will affect edge speeds as well

the 19.99 plan is what I use.
You goto Settings, Connections, GPRS then edit the T-Mobile Data item
It does sometimes interfere with it depending on where you are located, I had mine on that and it was interfering... also, its probably because I got the 5.99 plan that's why. But if you have the 19.99 plan then it might not interfere.

Teathering on T-Mo TP2?

I am contemplating dumping my HTC Fuze and jumping ship from AT&T to T-Mobile just to get a Touch Pro 2, however I just got off the phone with T-Mo customer service and they informed me that you cannot tether the Touch Pro 2 to a laptop or use it as a modem.
Now I am sure the harware supports tethering and this is just something T-Mobile has decided to cripple, but how easy would it be to enable teathering? I hate the idea of paying $350 plus locking into a new contract and losing functionality from my Fuze!
Baloney.
Internet sharing is on the phone and the HTC WiFiRouter works perfectly.
I have tested both.
Thank you for the fast response, and for clearing this up! Once again, knowledge gained from this site continues to impress me!!!
I think what the T-Mobile people were actually getting at is your not supposed to do it.
I think its in the T&C's that if you have a data plan you wont use it through a computer and to watch video etc
(I use it all the time though and they dont enforce it)
You can tether (legitimately) on Total Internet (their old $20 plan) or the new "PDA" plans ($25 and $35, but include messaging.)
You CANNOT (according to the rules) do so on their "phone" plans (Web2Go I think now) but in some cases it will work. They're enforcing this with the TP2 by doing the "automatic add the feature" game based on IMEI, as they have with other smartphones they are selling now (especially the Android ones that won't work at all without it.)
Note that the TP2 has a number of included features (including embedded account management!) that doesn't work right, especially from the browser, if you use the Internet2 or Internet3 APN. You have to use "epc" if you want those to work.
I'm not sure why they'd care about video and such on the TP2 in particular, seeing as it has a Youtube video viewer BUILT IN FROM THE FACTORY in T-Mobile's software load!

Where are you finding this "HTC WiFiRouter"?? (I'm on the T-Mobile version just like you guys)
I don't see it anywhere. I feel like such a newb, lol, even though I'm an ex-cook from my old Wing. So the WiFiRouter thing is pre-installed, right? And it'd let me create a WiFi hotspot for others to connect and use my data? That's what it sounds like.
Am I way off here? Or where the heck is this program? (Welcome everyone)

T-mobile policy on tethering
Per policy it states that this type of 3g HSPCA device isnt allowed to tether and be used as a modem but the phone says otherwise. Also my theory on the last minute price jump on the tp2 is because tmobile can't stop it from being used as a modem on there smart phone data plans like they have with non rooted android devices. As an employee I researched this heavily before buying the TP2 and its one of the reasons why I went for the device. T-Mobile is so proud of their new 3g network but have made a lot of decisions to try and limit bandwidth consumption like removing push internet from the device. But anyway it should work. My disclaimer is that policy changes constantly at T-Mobile so this may not always be so.

Tethering works. I have a Touch Pro 2 with the stock T-Mobile USA ROM. Despite what the T-Mobile representative says, the stock ROM contains the correct application to do this. Programs --> Internet Sharing.
Plug the Touch Pro 2 into your computer via USB and then hit "Connect". Bam, instant Internet tethering. Works well if you're in a bind.
T-Mobile does states exactly this:
"1. Permissible and Prohibited Uses
Your Data Plan is intended for Web browsing, messaging, and similar activities on your device and not on any other equipment. Unless explicitly permitted by your Data Plan, other uses, including for example, tethering your device to a personal computer or other hardware, are not permitted."
When I logged in to get details of my Data Plan, here is what I found:
"T-Mobile Total Internet
T-Mobile Total Internet includes unlimited Internet access on your phone, along with unlimited Internet access in T-Mobile HotSpot locations. Access your e-mail or browse the Web on your phone, or log on to wireless broadband access from a T-Mobile HotSpot in one of thousands of locations around the world using your Wi-Fi-enabled device."
I'm not inclined to poke this fire with T-Mobile as I have been a customer for a long time and have been nothing but happy with their customer service; and even before a put a cooked ROM on my last phone (wing) it had an internet connection sharing by default (bluetooth or USB only).
i tether on my 2.99 t-zone plan, they never said anything.

They won't ever say anything, lol, don't worry. Hell, I downloaded a 139 MB file to my TP2 a few days ago, it's not like they nock on my door, saying, are you the account holder of number ******???
Go ahead and tether all you want. If they do ask you, say you were downloading lots of music or something FROM YOUR PHONE. They can't prove anything.
PS, that's the $5.99 T-Zones, LOL. 2.99 would be incredible!

This is one blind statement if I ever heard one!
Tmobile IS your ISP. Tmobile KNOWS where you go and what you do.
Now, whether they will actually take the time to look through their logs and find out who's been going where, that's a different story.
But don't say they can't prove anything, because they can, and if they want to they will terminate your contract, and charge you the ETF on top.
FYI, I've been with Tmobile since they were VoiceStream. In fact I opened the account in Feb of 2001. Not to mention, at some point during my career I've actually managed the entire wireless account pool for a 150 people office, and most of them were on Tmobile. That should tell you something about my level of knowledge, as well as loyalty.

Start - Programs - Internet sharing.
LOL
The last post was too funny. Seriously though, T-Mobile has little in the way of "monitoring" what data is being sent to your phone. Its more of the amount thats an issue. T-Mobiles logic is that tethering will burn up bandwidth quicker which makes it more likely to hit the data cap and considering whats going on with ATT and the IPHONE bandwidth issue it makes sense. BUT if you monitor your bandwidth consumption and keep it under 10gb, I would say safer would be under 5gb a month then your not rocking the boat. And even when it hits the cap is throttles down to edge speeds anyway so I cant see an issue in this. Now if you live on tethering 24/7 then ya your gonna be pushing it. Customer care can see your data consumption in the system so just call um up and say hey I am worried I might be going over my data limit, lol they will be like blah i know how important blah blah it is to not go over. Then when they shut up they will say you used only 3gb this month so far so your doing fine blah blah blah. If T-Mobile had something in place to detect you tethering they wouldnt have made google remove the tether app from the market. Open source i guess means its open until you do something we think isnt right? I think its still bunk because what happens when someone hits the cap on there 3g phone. nada. And you would be surprised how under used T-Mobiles 3g network really is depending on the city. Theres some rumor that this was planned since the iphone may be going to other carriers soon. I will leave it at that.

Question on Tmobile's internet connection on the MT3GS

Hello again buds, back from a while, since i lost my Raphael.
Well, i'm planning on getting a My Touch 3g Slide and i was wondering. Tmobile told me if i get it from them i HAVE (no option) to get the 25$ internet plan. Now, i do know for most phones, i used TZones, which is just plan and simple internet (i know it's not quick, but i dont mind waiting) as i dont do much heavy browsing. Is there a way to use TZones on the MT3GS?
I dont mind losing 3G speed, but i'd like internet on it, no use for android without it, i think.
Thanks for the replies, and glad to be back ^^

In theory if you buy it second hand you could point the APN to T-Zones'.
The only problem is tmobile knows when you using the slide on the network and will cut you off
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
