Dismantle and replace touch sensor?? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi,
I thought I might risk it without a screen protector and kinda regret that decision.
I ordered a digiziter from ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350227180757
I am wondering how easy is it to replace? Can I just remove the plastic/chrome sides and replace this bit from the top down? Or do I have to remove the LCD and everything else to get to it?

Change hard casing...

Hi all
my elfin fell from quite a high place, and the four casings into which the small screws visible when you take off the back cover are broken...meaning the front casing is loose too.
do you know where I can find a front cover (I don't really need the back but I'm okay with buying both)... but before that I was thinking maybe someone could have bricked their elf or had an unusable device but with a front cover that's ok...
thanks in advance for your help !
Plenty of covers in a selection of colors on eBay, I suggest you try to find one there. Not that expensive and you can buy a digitizer to match the color.
hi
thnx for your answer . what's a digitizer?

Digitizer is the outer screen cover attached to the faceplate that is responsible for touch function, the one you use your finger or stylus on. It's sold separately and is fairly easy to replace in cases when the touch function is lost or the digitizer is broken. You can get one to match the color of the housing for a complete look. Just look on eBay and you'll see what I mean.
oh... does that mean that the part responsible for touch function is actually stuck to the front casing and not to the screen itself? I hadn't thought about that... meaning I cannot jut change the front cover, I would have to replace this as well...
[edit] is it possible to use the one from my phone? cause it's working fine after all... I'm looking at it and I don't really know how to take it off...

The digitizer is attached to the housing and in your case needs to be pried off before being used again and re-attached to the new housing. The digitizers are fairly cheap (the reason I don't bother with screen protector), so you will get unscratched and new one that you will have to attach to the new housing. My recommendation would be to buy a new housing and a matching digitizer.
Hi
thnx again for your help. I have one more question. Is the digitizer stuck to the screen or is it the actual hard plastic screen?
I find it's actually fairly expensive. When you add up the housing + the digitizer + the shipping costs it adds up to quite a lot..
[edit] Ok I think I finally got it now.
what do you think of this product ?

what to do with phone now?

Hey guys I dropped my phone pretty hard yesterday, it doesnt appear that the outter glass cracked, but the screen stays completly black now, but if you look at it right you can see cracks that appear to be under the outter glass. I have seen the digitizer kits to fix lcd screens for about $150 so if i bought one of those would that fix my issue? im asking cause most the time i see that it fixes cracked lcds and like i said mine isnt cracked on the outter glass its cracked inside and the screen stays black, but i know its on because the bottom buttons light up and i get sound and vibration just fine. so would lcd digitizer replacement fix this?
If you have insurance, I'd utilize that.

I'm sure all phone insurances with sprint don't cover severe physical damaged caused by you..
If you have the insurance, replacing the entire device would cost $150 and save you the time and trouble of fixing it. By far the easiest option if you have it.
If not, it depends on your level of expertise with electronic repair. The LED screen and digitizer (touchscreen) are glued together on this phone, meaning you wuld have to have a good deal of patience and skill with a heat gun in order to pull the two apart. Your best bet might be searching for a digitizer and LED screen in one piece. I've seen them for $260-270 on eBay.
I'm a Sprint technician, so feel free to ask any other questions and I'll help if I can. Sorry about your luck with the phone, bud!

[Q] S3 screen/led replacement issue

I recently bought a galaxy s3 off ebay that just needed a glass screen repair. Having done several of these with other models I thought no biggie ill ju st change out the digitizer and have a heck of a deal lol until I started looking into how the phone was made and the screens being fused together like they are. I followed a youtube video and heated the screen with a hairdryer and proceeded to try and carefully tried to remove the outer glass without harming the digitizer or lcd screens fused behind it. Unfortunately when I removed the glass screen the digitizer came with it. I thought id ripped the digitizer's flex cable til I read this phones digitizer doesnt connect that way. It didnt crack the lcd screen in any way tho, so Im pretty sure I can just clean the lcd rly well and make sure all the adhesive and glass is cleaned off and use new 3m adhesive to install a new digitizer then the glass screen over it.
The only thing im questionable about is a thin brown ribbon/wire that was pulled out of its original place iand tore a little while doimg this removal. Some of the adhesive from the factory apparently stuck to it while I was heating the glass and attatched itself to the digitizer somewhat or enough to work its way out and initially tear as I was pulling the glass off. Its not the buttons or the small cable that attatches them but it is right beside them. Can anyone with some experience working on these galaxy 3s please tell me what this hooks up, controls, or what other replacement part I would have to buy that would have this ribbon included in it? Or with this ribbon being the way it is, am I going to have to buy the lcd, digitizer, &glass screen replacement that comes preassembled? I know its not the lcd flex cable amd doesnt go to the digitizer so im at a loss.
Im attatching pics so u will know what im referring to. Thanks for any help its greatly appreciated.
Pics after screen removal.
That's why I paid more and got the LCD+Digitizer. Cost more but made it a million times faster.
Sent from my Freeza MD4 Stock Rooted Galaxy S3
Yeah i understand i was just tryin to save a few. I can still do that and not lose but 10 bucks so notjhing hurt if i cant find a solution to this or just make double certain that ribbon being the way it is in the pic isnt going to hurt anything.

I'd go check out this thread and ask some of these guys. A lot of them seem to have attempted repairs already, and many of them have had to troubleshoot different issues. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890708&page=78

Messed up screen replacement, is it repairable?

So I dropped my screen a few months back and the glass cracked. It still worked $100 percent and since the glass wasn't shattered it didn't prevent me from using it. It was only annoying me so i decided to order a new glass and replace the glass. During this replacement I completely ****ed the phone up.
From what I understand there are 3 separate pieces, the LCD, the touchscreen digitizer, and the glass itself. I was supposed to pull the glass apart from the digitizer but instead pulled both up leaving only the lcd behind. In the process I completely shattered both glass and digitizer and severed a ribbon cable.
I couldn't link to an imgur album and the images were too large to attach so i put them in a rar file. As you can see in the pictures my new glass is completely transparent and the old broken one has a tint to it, and an extra layer attached. That was how I came to the conclusion it was the digitizer. I have tried to see if I could just replace the digitizer but all the pictures I've seen don't show the cable that I severed. I have no idea what that cable does, only that it was connected to the tinted portion of the glass.
Important to note is that the phone works. I hear it power on and if i get a notification it plays the sound and vibrates no issue. I just can't SEE anything. Does this mean the LCD is broken too? Or will it only power up when it has the digitizer attached? Is this repairable, if so, how? if not, where did I go wrong?
At this moment I am not due for an upgrade til June, and I don't have more than $100 to spend on a replacement so if I can I'd like to fix this one to both save money and not have to downgrade to a lesser phone.

You can buy a replacement screen with a digitizer attached but it will cost over $100 and the way your phone is now it may not be worth doing yourself. You can get a pro install for around $200. You may want to wait for your upgrade then.

Yeah I was hoping there was a cheap fix but I screwed myself. I ended up buying one off eBay that has a bad charging port for $100. I'm just going to swap the mobo and I should be good to go.
Sucks I had to spend the money, it was a gift from my brother for a birthday tattoo, butit's a learning experience. If I ever try to tackle a glass replacement again I know what NOT to do.

[Q] Cracked Screen Repair Kit

Unfortunately, I recently cracked my phone's screen. So, I bought a screen off of eBay.
Does anyone have any experience with this kit:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261352263447
I know how to remove the phone's case to access the glass, and generally everything else needed to replace the glass.
But, I have no idea how to use the adhesives supplied. Can anyone share having used this?

Ive been fixing glass on note 2's for a long time now. First off all those tools are for taking off back cover and board out. Do not use on the glass. you need a heat gun and some patience, lots of it. I use a card trick, anyways after you remove the glass put the adheasive on the outside edges make sure its cleaned up then either stick glass on. or use uv glue to bond. IF you need any help let me know.
There are a few youtube videos. Look for galaxy note 2 front glass replacement.
