Setup virgin email (ntlworld) on this thing? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Anyone know what i need to enter to do that? Im searching the internet for instructions like gmail provide but cant find anything!!!
Thanks,
D.

I set up my ntlworld account the other day.
It did it all automatically to be fair.
After typing in the e-mail address and password, then clicking "Next" it asks if I want it to try and download the settings automatically, which I did.
It then did nearly everything itself, save for entering my name and a couple of preferences.
Was easy.
Where are you getting stuck?

When i go through the new account thing it asks for email / password and then asks for the incoming server etc. Doesnt seem to grab anything automatic?

Is your TP2 branded? Vodafone? T-Mobile? What region?
Otherwise incoming server is pop.ntlworld.com and smtp is smtp.ntlworld.com
At least that's what I use on my PC

Its T-Mobile and im in the UK. Sorry forgot to mention that!

use pop.ntlworld.com for the incoming server.
NTLs (virgin media) smtp servers will not let you send mail through them unless you're on one of the connections though (when using GPRS for example)- so use the smtp server of your mobile provider who will.
A quick bit of google should find you that bit (as it would have e the pop server name)

Can only receive emails, can't send

I used the proxy settings at the HTC Wiki to setup my Dash with my T-Zones internet. Internet works fine. I'm having a problem with sending mail. I can receive mail fine. When I go to send I get this message:
"The following errors occurred while sending and receiving messages:
the messages cannot be sent . Be certain you have network coverage and that your account information is correct and then try again."
I have a strong signal, get all my emails, can browse the internet. This problem just started happening. WM6 Beta worked fine. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I'm having a similar problem. I just tried to setup windows live mail, and it only works over wifi. I get that network coverage error every time I try and sync mail over edge.
I didn't use live mail frequently with the beta, but it definitely worked over edge when I did use it....Seems like something is up.
T-Zones service doesn't included email, sounds like they're starting to close up the loophole that allowed you to use it with the T-Zones plan in the past? I think you'll find some other things not working as well, like Messenger?
Incoming v. Outgoing Servers
Your incoming and outgoing servers need to be different. If you can use your home wifi, but not edge to send, that means that you have your isp's info in the settings.
I originally made an IMAP account that could receive anywhere, but could only send when I was using a wifi network for which iIknew the outgoing server (ie. my home wifi). I used the "set up my email" option that tmobile offers, it works pretty well, since it configures the phone to send and receive. I pay for the 5.99 T-Zones plan, and this function works for me. Just make sure you log into your my.tmobile.com account and turn the text message alerts off (they send you, and charge you for, a text message every time you receive a new email).
They're definitely doing something. I can now send and receive from my aol account, but my .mac account keeps asking for my username and password. I can't login.
In the past in the settings of a pop account you can go into email setup and choose "Network Connection: Wap", in wm6 final there is no choice for wap. I think that is what is causing the problems

I noticed this as well, both on my Dash and my Vox. My Vox can use T-Zones to get on the internet with the proxy settings. Email had been working fine since I got it on Friday. The strange thing is is I can send email and receive with my aol accounts fine now (this morning they weren't working, only being able to receive).
My. mac account on my Dash now only is getting incoming mail, I can't send out. Earlier this morning I couldn't even log in or get incoming mail.
T-Mobile is definitely doing something because my aol accounts on both phones send and receive fine, now (hope it lasts)
Gmail is also working now, sending and receiving messages.
Hopefully they are just updating their servers since the official release is coming Friday, at least I hope this is what's going on.
as of 9pm EST even connecting Via WiFi I can't send out mail using my .mac account, only receive.
I get the error "the message cannot be sent. Be ceratin that you have network coveraage and that your account information is correct and then try again."
I can' t understand why I'm getting this using WiFi
Gmail, aol still work fine on both T-Mobile EDGE and WiFi.
Uh-oh... looks like I might be going back to WM5.
Easy fix.
Use the proxy, except for everywhere it says use WAP Network under GPRS and Proxy settings, use Work.
Then make sure your IE uses work and your email uses work.
If you can get your IE working but not your email, here is your fix.
for each email account, go to tools>options>select your account> keep going through your email setup until you get to advance server settings.
click on advance server settings, and under network connection, select the same connection that you use for IE.. (should be anything except The Internet)
select it, then hit done (but you aren't done)
it should take you to the previous screen, then hit next, until you get to finish.
You have to make sure you hit finish to save your settings.
Usually if you can't send from your device you might not have set smpt relay on on your webmail account or enabled pop/smpt in general. I had that with a secure server account that I use for buisness and once I had set the settings to turn smpt relay on I had no problems - except it usually works better if i input the password manually. Gmail I have never had problems with after enabling pop.

Yahoo Mail

When I try to send messages it tells me that an error occurred and that it couldn't send the message. I don't know how this can be, because it retrieves my mail, it just won't send it. ???
You mean with Pocket Outlook using SMTP? (You must be a yahoo plus subscriber)
I have the same problem and managed to trace it down to the following:
The built in SMTP program does not authenticate itself 100% by the book. Can't tell exactly but I saw in the server log that it did something funny after HELO.
This causes some mail servers (on the receiving end) to ignore the mail entirely or think it's spam.
I only have this issue with my yahoo account though. Others (e.g. gmail) work fine from Outlook.
Hope it gets fixed in WM6...
T-mobile has a work around.
1) Go to T-Mobile and setup a email forwarding account (Set your phone as a MDA NOT A Dash
2) Turn off email forarding for incoming
3) ON Dash - Change outgoing SMTP to: myemail.t-mobile.com
4) Change user name (Use different than login - because you will still login to Yahoo using the pop or IMAP server to your10digitphonenumber:1
5) password is your yahoo password
Also change NO SSL on outgoing, and outgoing requires authentican checked.
This is also required if you use the dash as a modem on your laptop. I could not sent SMTP Trough T-mobile connectiosnt o laptop, but could if connected via a wifi connection that was not t-mobile.
Charles
I have wm6, it used to work. I will try that, but i don't see why it just stopped working all the sudden when it used to....

Touch Pro 2 and gmail

I have had my TP2 for a few days now and i love it, except for the fact that I cannot send or receive email from my gmail account
I can access the internet fine, and use the youtube app fine, but whenever i try to send an email or hit send/receive i get this error message
"CANNOT CONNECT WITH CURRENT CONNECTIONS SETTINGS. TO CHANGE YOUR SETTINGS, TAP SETTINGS"
When i set up the email the only things i was required to supply were my email address and password....so i am assuming the problem lies with the way my handset is trying to access the gmail account, ie. trying to use wifi or something? (i dont have wifi, so i will only be using the "unlimited" interent provided with my t-mobile UK tariff)
has anyone else had this problem or do they know how to get around it as i have finally got myself a decent handset where i can (allegedly!) check my email on the move, but yet i somehow cant get it working?!!
Ihave tried both hard and soft resets to get this sorted but it just wont work and i feel like pulling my hair out!
n
I know it's not much consolation but it just worked for me...
I have a SIM free TP2 and UK T-Mobile Web'n'Walk.
Incoming mail server is imap.gmail.com
Account type is IMAP4
Username is my full gmail username
Outgoing mail server is smtp.gmail.com
outgoing server requires authentication is ticked
All this was set via automatic configuration.
Hope this helps,
Richard
This is what i have done to recieve and send Gmail trueout the standard email client on my Pro II.
First of all you have to enable imap at your gmail account which you can find under settings.
Then on your phone do the following settings.
- make an new account in your email client
- fill in your gmail adress
- fill in your name
- fill at incomming mail "imap.gmail" and account type "imap"
- fill in your account name (gmail adress) and password
- fill at outgoing mail server smtp.gmail.com
and those two checkboxes must be checked
- auto recieve and send is up to you
hope this will help you
ther's a known bug in windows mobile poutlook...
sometimes the autoconf for gmail doesn't work...(i had the same issue on my omnia)
you only need to enter the account details by hand..
to do that, in the first screen where your address is asked, enter [email protected]
leave it without the final m.
after that fill in manually all the account details, then when finished edit the account and put that m in the domain...
that should work...at least in my omnia was the only way to get gmail working...
I used this guide en it works perfectly

hi, thanks or all the replies, most appreciated.
however, i have now established that i can get my gmail account working - but only over wifi!?!? when the wireless router is turned off i get the same message as before, so there must be a setting or something that is telling my TP2 to look for a wireless connection when performing a send/receive, rather than using the "internet" (if thats the right term) that is included in my contract..AAAARGH...
i have had a look but cannot find any settings for this so i must be going mad?
can anyone shed any light on this for me before i go mad??!!

Disable proxyserver, don't have the place where you can find this. I have a dutch rom
I have a gmail imap connection on my HTC Touch that was working great but has failed to connect for the past two hours or so.
I found that to change from Download 30 Days to 7 days and it worked fine.
Oddly I returned my TP2, and switched back to my VarioV, same problem (had worked fine until then). New TP2 is now here, so will start with 7 days and try expanding to 30 days later.

does anyone know how to do this? i cannot find this option anywhere?
is there any way i can see how my tp2 is trying to receive data from my gmail account, ie. if it is trying to use internet or wifi?!?
also, does anyone have any details for the settings that their tp2 (on t-mobile UK) is using when trying to retrieve email (not by wifi)??!
i'm also assuming that t-mobile wont be able to help me as i got my phone/contract via a third party and t-mobile themselves dont seem to stock the phone themselves....
I had this problem, it drove me nuts until I worked out what it was, if i was already connected it would work but it would not establish its own new connection.
To fix it go into the email settings for the account, then select:
Edit Account Setup
Next
Next
Next
Next (Outgoing (SMTP) mail server screen)
Click the “Advanced Server Settings” Link
In the “Network connections” it defaults to “The Internet” but if you have gone through the “Connection Setup Wizard” when you first installed your SIM it renames the connection, in my case to “T-Mobile Internet”.
Change “Network Connections” to the correct one i.e. “T-Mobile Internet”
hey presto, you can now get your emails
hope this helps everyone

if the connection has a proxy in the setup, than you can use that connection only if selected like above...
if you leave "The internet" the proxy settings are ignored...you have to select the exact connection..but this will prevent the gmail to connect with wifi

Help w/ Exchange email...

I can't get my exchange setup and am really wanting to find a way to at least get (don't need to respond even... just view).
I have all my info the phone asks for for exchange, but I get the following message when it trys to connect:

I've also tried setting up a rule in outlook to forward all incoming mail to a gmail account and that's not working either.
Are there any other options I have here? Corporate won't even talk to me (I tried) because they support ONLY phones they provide and they didn't provide this one (they're blackberry fanboys).
I used to have a blackberry (not one they provided) and could get email fine on it through BIS. Is there anything like BIS for phones other than BB? Something where you set up an exchange account online with the service and they then forward the mail to your phone or something?
I was able to setup my Exchange support no sweat. This is the first android device available in the US that can handle the harsh security policies set forth by my company. Works great.
You need to make sure you have the following info:
Account name
Password
Domain
Email Address
Server <this may be your issue>
whether or not they support SSL
The server is most likely not "yourcompany.com". For example my company uses "webmail.yourcompany.com". Secondly, your account name should be the same as your email address with the "@yourcompany.com" part. Its possible for it to be different. You should be able to get the domain name from your corporate PC/Laptop. aside from that, just try with the SSL option. If that fails try it again without.

BIS is different than Exchange, it connects to Exchange but does it's own thing with email, calendar, etc..
If you have never connected to your Exchange server using ActiveSync, it would need to be configured on the Exchange server.
The forwarding is also an Exchange server side configuration that the "fanboys" would need to setup.
I know you can have gmail check email on an external account, did you try configuring that?
okay... so if you don't mine i'll post the info you're saying i need with what i think the information is based on what i'm pulling from my outlook on my work computer. i'll change the info though to keep things secure. this is what i'm asked for when i try to create the account and what i'm entering:
email address: firstname.lastnameATcompanyDOTcom
server address: two options here and i've tried both. the first is listed as the microsoft exchange server on the first window that comes up when i select the account: letters-letter22.ab.lettersDOTnet the second is listed under more settings > connection > exchange proxy settings: ab.lettersDOTcom
domain name: i'm not sure of this one but figured it was one of two things. the first would be what i type in before my username when logging in: ab-letters (so when i log in i type (ab-letters\username). the second would be the url for the OWA option which is: companymailDOTcom
username: again, i've tried two options one is just my username and the other is my full login as needed when logging into outlook or OWA (ab-letters\username).
password: password
and i've tried with both the ssl box checked and not checked.
that said, what am i missing or entering wrong? thanks for the help!

i tried the gmail option. said the server didn't allow for pop access.
use the address you use to access webmail. usually it's
owa.company.com
webmail.company.com
mail.company.com
if they don't allow MS ActiveSync I don't know what you can do.
if POP or IMAP is not an option, and the forward is not working (most companies don't allow that as a data leakage prevention) there is little to nothing you can do.
just weird they don't allow ActiveSync. you would read emails out of the office and become more efficient. very bad business policy.
when i log into OWA... the address is:
h t t p s :// w w w .companymail.com/OWA/
(sorry for the spacing... won't let me post urls)
will that not work?

Your Email:firstname.lastnameATcompanyDOTcom
Your Server: companymailDOTcom <-- most likely your OWA server
Yoru Domain: ab-letters <--- from ab-letters\username
Accountname: username <-- from username
password: password
That should be enough. Of coarse try the SSL option both ways.
Here.. When we deployed our exchange server this is how we setup the server.
The main 2 things you need to know is email server and active directory domain. For this example ill use:
Email Server: mail.company.com
Domain: company.com
So..
Email: [email protected]
Server: mail.company.com
Domain: company.com (in some cases, it can be left blank)
Username: myname
Password: pass
Depending on how things are configure, sometimes you may need to use company\myname as the username, but most times not.
Also, as I mentioned before.. It really depends on how things are setup. If the server admins don't allow activesync, your out of luck. Also, things like hub transport servers in the mix can effect how email is accessed as well. If your admins can't give you the info you need for this... Um, perhaps they need to find other work.

By domain, it looking for your PDC (Primary Domain Controller). Not your companies URL domain unless you somehow named your internal PDC the same thing.
This would be the part that he types just before his username during his authentication sessions.
Let us know how you fair.
tried every suggestion offered here. sadly, no dice. i get the same security warning i mentioned in my first email. given that my previous BB was NOT issues by corporate yet i was able to retrieve work email fine (through BIS of course), i can only assume that they've somehow managed to set up the system so that it doesn't work with anything other than BIS or BES.
looking for any other possible solutions/alternatives. as i mentioned before, the whole forwarding thing didn't work so unless there's another way, gmail isn't even an option. any thoughts?
All out of ideas for getting email and events pushed to your phone. You can use the HTC Sync App and do it at the desktop. Also the OWA client works great in the web browser.
Lastly, you can escalate internally, but I'd recommend writing up a small business case to demonstrate the benefits before you do so. They did that in my company and that got use away from having to use Good Link.
If you can get your exchange administrator to agree to allow Activesync connections for retrieving mail, you could use an app like Nitrodesk's Touchdown v5 (for 2.0 and above).
Been using it on my Droid and it's stable and reliable if a bit choppy when swapping inbox folders.
Hope that helps.
Sent from my Droid using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
ya. i tried that one too just in case to i knew for certain it was on their end and not something with the phone. nice program.
sadly... no help. there's no way i'm going to convince them to do anything different than what they're doing now. when i say i work for a corporation, i mean i work for a CORPORATION. LOL. it's frikin huge with tons of employees, all over the world. that makes me a tiny little bug. LOL. when i made my call to IT they wouldn't even talk to me about anything email-cellphone related since i'm not high enough to even be considered for a corporate issued BB. LOL.
i do have one more chance. i can't remember what options are available in BIS, but my wife is going to take over my storm1 now that i have the new incredible. we're going in today to make the swap. my hope is that i can set my work email up in BIS as i did before but then auto forward it to a gmail account from within BIS. will be nice if i'm able to do this though it's still stupid that they don't let their frontline workers have access from their personal cellphones.
well, i made a bit of progress today. i still haven't connected yet, but after adding my account to BIS i was able to view the email server it uses to connect to the exchange server which is different from the one i was using before.
that said, i'm not getting that security msg i was getting before. now, though, i keep getting a message saying i can't be authenticated. i've tried lots of different options for the username to see if i could get in with no luck. any thoughts? i feel like i'm closer... but still so far away. thanks for the help!

Personally, I like the one built in to incredible more than the touch down app. I can see it all using the HTC widgets in Sense. Its very nice.
found a work around i thought i'd share. it's not great by any means, but it lets me view work email on my phone.
i setup a seperate gmail account just for work. then in outlook on my work computer i added the gmail account as an imap. then i created a rule to copy all incoming mail to the gmail inbox folder in outlook. this then syncs (obviously) with the gmail account and i pull the gmail to the phone through the native gmail app. it requires me leaving my computer at work on 24/7 but it's the only solution i could come up with for the time being.
Can anyone confirm if the incredible deals with the issues raised in this post ? code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4475 e.g. remote wipe/Simple Pin request etc?
Thanks.

setting up email

I am trying to set up my EVO to automaticly retreive my email but I have no success, can anyone help me with it
I have Optonline
what do I use 1. Exchange ActiveSync
2. POP3/IMAP
the first I had no success
with IMAP I was only succesfull to send out email but not retreive??
Your provider has to support POP3 or IMAP (recommended) for incoming mail and SMTP for outgoing. Call them to see if they do and to get specific details. If you want them to walk you through it, they should be able to tell you what to put where. Make sure you use the "Mail" app and not the "GMail" app for this, or just get K9. Good luck!

I have sprint and optonline, when you wrote provider, u meant mobile provider or email provider?
He meant email provider. Here's the information you need from them (usually you can find this online--Google's your friend)
Incoming/Outgoing Settings:
1. User Name
2. Password
3. Incoming Server
4. Security Settings (if applicable)
5. Port number
I like to use IMAP over pop3 because it reads the items and leaves the items on the server so I have the same things between my phone and outlook. Pop3 will download the mail to your phone.
Edit:
I just did a quick search and found this.
incoming server mailhost.optonline.net with port address of 110
outgoing mailhost.optonline.net with port address at 587
By the looks of it, I think the outgoing port 587 is usually associated with SSL, so make sure that is selected in the drop down menu. If not, just change it back to none.
Edit2:
If those don't work, try these directly from their site:
http://optimum.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/optimum.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=39
Those may or maynot work since you are coming from a mobile platform. I use Charter and you cannot get to your email unless you are connected to their network or you connect to their mobile servers.
