THis may be a newb question, and i had it set up somehow while running WM2003 but i cant seem to remove the brackets on the numbers that are calling me, so i have to redo about 400 contacts just so that i can get their name on screen while they are calling me
Example:
The phone now whenever someone is calling me it shows (697)6767676 and i want to make it 6976767676,
Help!
dont fret and worry about it...
it's just a display (it's hardcoded in Windows to show the first three in parenthesis) ... the real numbers dont have the any special chars aside from p w +, et. al.
Yes i know its only a display thingamajig, although whenever i get a call from someone it wont show me their name unless i have altered the actual number with so that it contains the brackets in the contact itself :S

None of my contacts have ( ) stored in their numbers, The format I used is +country_code number and every time someone calls me with or without the country code showing it displays the name that corresponds. Example: I have have a contact named Fred Murphy with the number +965 1234567 when he calls if I am in Kuwait it shows only as 123-4567 if I am overseas it shows as +965 123-4567 both times I see his name Fred Murphy on my screen. It has always been this way for me no matter which version of windows I have run. I was not aware that it worked any other way.
You have to choose your regional settings correctly and it will disappear.
settings > system > regional settings.
JP
or
check for duplicate phone number entries...
even though you have the name in the sim and the phone, the phone cant decide which name to show, so our phone shows only the number.
Below is a pic of my screen, after I receive a voicemail. Notice, that where every other thing in the panel shows a number value next to it, the voicemail, when one has been received, shows an asterisk.
All my other txt, email, etc. have a number,1,2,3, etc. Why does my voicemail show an asterisk.
OrganicM, do you know why? If so, is there a way I can change the reg or write a script that will fix this, to where it shows a number.
By the way, I wanted to add that it shows 1 asterisks for 2 voicemails or 3 or 4. I searched this forum, but have had no luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using Kavana's 080408 ROM and it does the same thing. I haven't really paid much attention to it though.
Yeah, but it seems like it should be such an easy fix, and there is really no reason that I can see for this to happen in the first place.
There is an asterisk because the network doesn't tell your phone how many voicemails there are, just that there are or aren't any. Asterisk means "some".
Some voicemail systems don't have this weakness, but most do.
Oh so this can not be fixed or can it be fixed?
My original Tilt had a very useful feature - when you clicked on a call in Call History it would show any other activity from that number. In my AT&T Tilt 2, clicking on a number immediately dials it without this intervening screen. Any ideas about how to retrieve this function?
Thanks,
And/Or
To the right of the name is a rolodex looking card. Clicking that will give you more info.
What I'd like to know is how to find out what time the call was. If it's older than a day it just shows me a date not the time. Nevermind that's on the card too.
Thanks! I thought I was doing that but I must have been missing the card - I also wouldn't mind seeing the time of the call -
I searched for this subject in the forums and didn't find anything so i'm sorry if it's already there.!!
anyway
you all know that there is an alternative way to call your customer service
which is insted of calling their number (i.e 1100) you can just write
*1100# and hit dial
a few options will appear and then you can choose any of them by inserting its number and hit OK.
the problem is
you can't show the keyboard to insert the number..
and also there is no balnk at all to fill it with the number !!
it's a basic thing in any phone.. do you think MS missed it ??
Your wp7 version?
Miss it
Yes, MS clearly miss it big time! I try this one *100# in my country for a long time and didn`t work..also in WP7, also in NoDo...I don`t know in Mango...but it wouldn`t be a surprise not to work. I hope they already did something...

tried it both on Nodo and Mango..
So, it's different from a normal call? Because in a normal call you should have a show keyboard button.
I really don't know what you are talking about.
I have the option to dail *100# which will bring up a Message that shows how much money I have left (prepaid) and it works fine just like on any other phone.
When you dail and you talk to the machine which says "press 1 to go to xxx" you can also use the keyboard to press 1 or enter any code or so.
Why not just copy/paste it the numbers from somewhere to the dialer, or make a contact and copy/paste the number in ?
Why don't you just have an entry for customer services in your phonebook? or just call them? It's easier to call 1100 than *1100#x anyway, surely?
what he means is this:
i dial *123# on my phone. it takes me to MY SPECIFIC operator's menu service. from which, on most phones, i can type 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. to access specific services.
for example, 1 allows me to check my balance. 2 allows me to activate a monthly SMS pack and takes away some money from my pay-as-you-go (prepaid) balance.
now when i type *123# it calls, and then displays the menu in the form of a toast notification (it's a screen similar to the volume up/down song change screen. you know, grey background and all.
the menu says, "Welcome to blahdyblah... enter 1 for x, 2 for y, 3 for z, etc."
BUT. now there's no way to access the SIP (the keyboard). wham, you're stuck.

you can do nothing about it..
it's depressing !!!
This is called USSD2, and Windows Phone does not support it.
It's called USSD2 Service
Did Microsoft intended to drop this service or it's just a slip..!
and does anybody know if they gonna support it in the future ?!

I think that it's a pretty unusual service. In fact, I've never encountered it so far, just USSD(1).
im also facing this problem
This is not a bug, it's an unsupported feature.

So lately, I've been amazed at the number of calls that I've gotten that haven't left voicemail. I just got four today. So I decided to check my voicemail, and sure enough, I have a bunch of messages. I'm not sure why, but suddenly my voicemail notification icon is not displaying in the notification area. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, is there a fix?

My wife and I both have the Note 4 on VZW and we have this same issue. I'll get calls all week and think nobody left a message. Then I'll go log in and find I have like 10 waiting. I am pretty sure we used to get notifications, but not for the past 2-3 months at least.
I feel like someone must have an idea what the issue is. I really don't want to go to the store to wait in line for someone to tell me I am wrong.

My wife also has the Note 4, and her notifications come through just fine. I wonder if it has to do with that visual voicemail abomination that they force on our phones. I've gotten in the habit of checking my voice mail manually, whenever I have a missed call. I shouldn't have to do that.

I had the same issue. *611 customer service eventually ended up with a voice mail customer service rep. It seems there was a "Update" pushed by Verizon that conflicts with Galaxy Device voicemail notifications. She "adjusted" the settings on her end and had me reboot, then test called me, Voila, the little tape recorder pops up and my notifications now show an unanswered voicemail. I asked if there was a way for a consumer to reset from their end, she said no, a Verizon Network adjustment is necessary.
I just called and had the same thing done. I have the developer edition note 4 but that doesn't matter according to verizon tech support. notifications work now.
the verizon support specialist told me that verizon had put out an update to those users who got phones after the beginning of the year to 'opt' in to premium voicemail. apparently this messes up the users account voicemail protocol to where they don't receive notifications if they opt out of visual voicemail and just rely on basic 'old school' voice mail. the tech had to 'block' visual voicemail features and configure my account for use with JUST basic old school voicemail. hope this helps.
You're think that they could push another update that would fix it, without everyone who has the problem having to call in and take up customer service time.
I had to call them too.

Most likely enough people "opt in" for $3.99 (or whatever it actually is) a month to make it all worth while...
hey, so I hate googling for solutions and not getting answers so i signed up to help solve this problem
open the phone menu
click the three dots on the upper right and hit settings
select 'call'
under where it says 'voice mail service' near the bottom, add an alert sound for voice mails and select vibrate (if you want to)
next, open the general phone settings (looks like a gear) and go to 'sound and notifications'
go to 'application notifications'
scroll all the way down and select 'voicemail'
click 'set as a priority' so it says 'turn on'
I'm sorry I can't post photos along with it, but the xda forums don't allow new posters to add pictures to their posts until they've posted ten things. (understandable but v frustrating)
The verizon rep (who was very kind and personable) walked me through these steps.
I hope this helps everybody in this thread and all the people hunting from google as well! :]

I'm sorry, I should have been more specific with that.
On the bottom right of the customizable menu right at the bottom of your home screen, click the dot button that says 'Apps' on it. I'm not sure how many pages of apps you have, but it will list all your apps on the phone. It's called 'Settings' and the icon for it is a silver/white gear with a blue circle in the middle of it. Does that help?
Yup. So settings. I go in to it through the notification area, but it's the same thing.
I don't have any menu items that are titled "Application Notifications". Perhaps because I am still on 4.4.4?
THANK YOU!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this solution! Worked for me!
I'm also on 4.4.4 and I'm quite lost on that second part of the instructions. Could someone please explain?
Thank you.
I'm stuck, too. I don't have Sound and Notifications. Just Sound. On 4.4.4 as well.
Did you sign up for visual vm?
Enable voicemail notification on Samsung Galaxy 6
If you aren't receiving voicemail notifications, this is a system error. You have to reset your voicemail. Goto: Settings, Applications, Application Manager. You may have to swipe the screen to the left twice so that it says ALL at the top. Then scroll down to voicemail. Hit Force Stop, then ok, scroll down and hit Clear Data and Clear. I just got off the phone with tech and this is exactly what I did and now my voicemail notification is back.
