Microsoft has made a case study on porting iphone apps to windows mobile. The case study can be found in the MSDN library.
Hope there will be an UI for porting Iphone apps soon!

I just read an article about it. It's a case study of porting the Iphone app Amplitude application to WM6.5.

Android is open source, and because of that anybody with the proper knowledge and some hard work can make it function on any device. I was wondering if there was a way to replace the windows mobile with symbian or something of that sort, im not a big fan of microsoft. i lurked in the forums and i did find the android being tested to work on it, but its still in progress, i was wondering if perhaps symbian has been put into this fone. i didnt find anything in the forums answering it exactly...

Not at the moment, the Android port is still very much a work in progress. I think Symbian is going open-source but as I understand it, it's just the core operating system that is going open-source. The Series 60 interface used by Nokia phones is proprietary and I think so is the UIQ interface for some Sony Ericsson phones - so don't expect to see your Excalibur looking like a Nokia E71 (for instance!) any time soon.
I would give WM a try though. Paradoxically for Microsoft, it's one of the more open mobile phone platforms out there - at least there is a fairly big market for applications and it's actually fairly easy to write your own against the .NET compact framework.

Has anyone come across an easy way to port games from Windows Phone 7 to iPhone/iPad devices?
If you are looking for an alternative, you might want to check out the XNATouch ( xnatouch-dot-codeplex-dot-com ) Open Source project. It currently supports XNA 3.1 API, but 4.0 API support and Android support will eventually be added. It is all C# code so libraries etc should port fairly easily.
Anyway just a bit of FYI.
hmm, considering WP7 phones are only out tomorrow, i doubt there will be any porting any time soon. we'll need a good access to the actual phone OS core as well as the filesystem to get all the relevant game inwards out, and then who knows
would be good to see how long will it take to reverse engineer the OS and adapt it to what we want.
Question is though, why would you want to run an Android or iOS when you have WP7
I didn't mean to install a new OS on the WP7 device, but to port your actual games/apps from WP7 to iPhone/Android. So effectively recompiling the C# code onto the iPhone and Android devices.
Why on Earth would you take from WP7 and give to those nasty iThings?

Well one reason is that there are currently over 7 million active iPhone/iPod devices in the US alone and world wide over 40 million iThingies. How many WP-Thingies are out there at the moment?
There is no doubt it is more crowded market, but there are still opportunities to makes some serious money there. Just this week, the makers of Angry Birds were bought for $20million by EA. Angry Birds could have been written in XNA and is hardly a really difficult game ( technically ) to write.
Hey, you don't HAVE to write for iPhones if you don't want a slice of that cake.
I just think since developer's C# can be ported from WP7 to iPhone and eventually Android, it makes developing for multiple platforms more affordable as you can leverage existing codebase without learning a new language.
Each to their own I suppose.

why would you want to do that?!
iphone games and apps are perfect why would you want wp7 ones on there...
How about a iPhone to Windows Phone 7 converter so we can have a million farting apps....
I do hope there will be no such beast as a WP7 to iPhone converter....the other way around, maybe...
From what I know it is impossible,but I think at this stage Palm webOS do pretty well with their SDK...which is a tool called (PhoneGap),which allow easy cross platform porting...anyway,I see the potential of webOS...

Microsoft has decided to reach out a helping hand and publish a case study that details how to port an iPhone app to its Windows Mobile platform. Now Windows Mobile users may finally have access to the countless fart apps we so thoroughly enjoy.
The post on Microsoft’s Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) site is a case study that documents the experience of one iPhone app developer in porting the app Amplitutude to a device running Windows Mobile 6.5. The report itself was actually created by a third-party consulting group.
Amplitude is an iPhone app that is able to detect and amplify basically any sound directly around a user. The app was chosen for the porting project because it is difficult to port, so it should provide a good learning experience for Windows Mobile developers.
“It combines a rich user interface with features such as alpha blending and transparency with specific audio and sound requirements, which makes it challenging to port the app but, at the same time, provides a number of helpful learning experiences,” he wrote.
Microsoft intends to launch their Windows Marketplace sometime during the fall. As an incentive, they will be offering prizes for the most popular apps.
This is a logical move by Microsoft. What better way is there to lure developers over to your side than by simply having them port their already made apps with an step-by-step walkthrough? The incentives for the most popular apps obviously won’t hurt either.
Are any of you fed up iPhone developers intrigued by the idea of moving your apps over to Windows Mobile?
In all actuality, this probably won't happen..
As a person who makes software, I wouldn't want anyone to reverse engineer my work.
I am sure that is the same for bigger corporations and little guys like me who make these apps.
I wouldn't mind if a person ported a game I made as long as the following are included in the port:
1) The port is of the completed game as specified by me
2) The project is finished to an acceptable state where no expected upgrades will be made
3) The game gives credit to the original source
A game being released by another person with different upgrades from the original and the port-dev isn't sharing knowledge of the upgrades before release, that's shameful on the port developer. Way to kick the original to the curb.
In the Amplitude port to WM, it includes where it's from, so I see it as acceptable. M$ taking the site off their servers in favor of more WP7 stuff, NOT ACCEPTABLE!

By the way, Microsoft no longer has the site on how to port the iphone games to the WM platform. It's sad to say, but I'm losing faith in M$ knowing what to do in the smart phone department.

I heard that the windows mobile revenue share is 30/70, in that you keep 70%. Are there any finance related things I should know about.
I am planning to develop a mobile 2d game on the windows mobile platform. I am looking for development software that can easily port to android and iOS later on. Any recommendations? I would like to keep costs to a minimum.
I have heard cocos2d (which is free) recommended, how easy is the porting though?

Any software developed for Windows Mobile will have very limited appeal because new devices aren't being made after 6.5, which was like 2+ years ago. Also I seriously doubt that there are any tools that are useful for porting between WM6.x and Android and iOS, because WM is effectively dead.

Make it for iphone first, get rich, then port to whatever you like as a pet project.
