Do you have sim-card on your phone? If you have it is an Gsm-phone. If not it is CDMA.

yeah i got a sim-card, so it's all about if i have a sim card or not? but can't my Touch Diamond be both CDMA and GSM?
sry that i ask so stupid questions, but im new to the Touch Diamond.

nope, it can't. You have gsm. Thats it..

They also make a cdma diamond, but it can't use GSM.

If you wanna know more about the difference between GSM and CDMA, you can visit this site:
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-difference-between-gsm-and-cdma.htm
For short, your phone is GSM, so you SHOULD NOT upgrade your Diamond with a CDMA rom.

let's see if i get this right, since i got a sim-card that i can use in any phone i want to and still have the other phone activated, it's not CDMA? or am i completely out and nothing near the real thing about CDMA? oO

CDMA is a usa 3g system running on 850 and 1800 net they dont use simcard in there phones it is build in so if u want to subcribe to a cdma network ( sprint a so on ] u need to actived the phone sim
gsm is an all over the world used system whit have an simcard

Quite simply, GSM and CDMA are two different types of networks. Likewise, the GSM and CDMA Diamonds are two different phones.

and what about european 3G/UMTS - with USIM ?

Cdma Diamond Rom

Hey guys. Just wondering some things here, and can't get an answer anywhere. These same questions are posted all over the web, so please lend a helping hand.
So, there is already one CDMA Version of the Diamond released to Telus, and soon to be Verizon and Sprint. Now heres the question. If I were to buy a CDMA Diamond off the web, one that is used on Telus, can it be used for Alltel, Sprint, or Verizon?
If so, would it be possible to make a ROM to go along with these carriers? I see that there is already a Diamond Kitchen available, so what would have to be done to get one of these phones to work on these carriers? Or is it already possible?
Thanks for any help guys.
I think the rom would not help because it is hardware. Not too sure though.
u can unlock it but alot of good that will do since its cmda you have to give sprint/verizon your esn and they will have to allow your phone for use on their network and as far as i know they dont allow unlocked phones even if its the same model as one they carry since the esns have to be sprint esns. if im wrong someone feel free to correct me.
verizon said they will open their network so when that happens yes you can.
the rest no.
and telus has NOT released the diamond as of yet.
telus is launching this little cdma beauty aug 14th. my question is this:WILL THE CURRENT ROMS AVAILABLE WORK ON THIS DEVICE
sprint will let you activate any phone, they just have to load your esn into there system
You can't use a WCDMA Diamond on CDMA networks because of its hardware.
The CDMA version has got a different hardware for make it work on CDMA networks...
I think that actual ROMs for WCDMA Diamond will work on CDMA version... the software part that controls radio hardware is the Radio ROM.

What type of rom for a gsm/cdma phone?

If your phone is a RHOD400 or RHOD500 (look underneath the battery to find this out), then you need to use CDMA ROMs and CDMA radios on your phone.

Normally in the UK and, I think Europe, they're GSM but in the US CDMA or GSM. I may be wrong but hopefully someone will come along and back me up or correct me.
Ok are all the roms currently out gsm or cdma? Or does it matter?
If you have a GSM Desire (if you have a SIM card) then go ahead and flash away pretty much anything you want. If you're CDMA then I'm really not too sure.
I know MIUI do a CDMA ROM on their US site. I posted a direct link to it the other day but can't remember where it is now. Here's a starting point though. Hope this helps.

[Q] HTC Desire in China

Hi all,
I've recently moved to China and taken my Desire with me. I had assumed I could just unlock it and use a chinese sim but it doesnt seem to be working. From what i've read on various sites it seems China telecom (who are my new provider) use CDMA(?) and Evo-do(?). I'm not going to pretend to understand what these terms mean.
Does anyone know if there is a rom i can flash which will allow me to use the desire on this network? Failing that I do have a chinese lenovo a68e but all of the sites i've found for it so far are in chinese so if anyone can point me in the direction of a custom rom for it (english please ) which i can use i would also be grateful but i would much prefer to get my desire working.
Any help or advice you could give is very much appreciated.
Sorry mate, I'm guessing you have a GSM device (it have a sim card in it). GSM and CDMA are two completely different technologys, they have different hardware in them, that's why CDMA users brick there phones if they flash a GSM ROM. I don't think there is a way to just change GSM into CDMA by flashing a Rom.

Thanks for the quick reply
My new phone has a sim card just like a uk one. I'll be honest and say I don't know much about any of this stuff but i've found good advice on this site and used roms and things found here before.
Are there CDMA sim cards and GSM sim cards?
It not problem in sim cards CDMA and GSM are network technologies, you have to buy CDMA phone(for example CDMA htc Desire). No ROM can help you. Here's more on CDMA and GSM.(link)
If you have a GSM device, China Mobile shall you go.
no, the difference is in hardware level, u can't do nothing

[CDMA] Question about GSM ROMs

I'm going to be upgrading my phone within a week or two. However, I plan on keeping my Play for gaming purposes. (Mostly emulators and a few other games.) Now my question is, since my Play won't be an active phone anymore, is it safe to flash GSM ROMs? Or will that affect other phone functionality? If data is the only thing that's lost with GSM ROMs then I should be fine right?
EDIT: Woops wrong section, meant to post this in Q and A. Sorry about that! "^_^
I'm about to buy a xperia play as a gaming device, and the cdma versions are much cheaper, so I have the same question. If it's unlocked for GSM, can we pop a sim and use it as a GSM phone with the GSM rom?
Actually, your question isn't the same as mine. And to answer your question, the answer is no. CDMA devices are built to work with CDMA frequencies. You cannot get a GSM SIM and place it in your CDMA device. It just won't function.
You can flash a GSM ROM on a CDMA Phone. You just can't use any phone functions. ie messaging, calling etc.

Well, then I had 2 questions. 1 was your question, and then there was the other question. I thought Verizon had gsm in some of there phones, and you could unlock it for world use. It has a sim slot for some reason... The GSM roms are much better, so can we flash them on the CDMA R800x?

Alright thanks, once I get my new phone, I won't be able to do any of those things anyways.

Just as JayJ said, you can flash a GSM ROM to a CDMA device, but you'll lose your data functionality. I'm pretty sure Verizon is a CDMA frequency company. Though I may be wrong.

Checked GSM ARENA and your right. The xperia play CDMA is only a CDMA phone, unlike some phones(example htc trophy) I already have a phone, so this will be a nice wifi only device.

Sprint is also CDMA.
To clear some stuff up. Yes, the R800x does have a sim slot. BUT it is not hooked up & our phones are hard coded for CDMA.
PS. Thread moved to Q&A

Will wifi still work if you flash a gsm rom to a cdma phone? I assume it will since wifi seems to be a kernel issue and I'd keep the cdma kernel but I'm afraid.
I also don't use the phone on a carrier network.

If you install a gsm kernel on a cdma rom you will get stuck in a bootloop. But if use a cdma kernel on a gsm rom you will get stuck with a blackscreen.
