Restoring contacts with Sim manager? - HTC Excalibur

Hi everyone,
I recently updated the ROM on my S621 to the EVO Win 6.5 ([ROM][EXCA][WWE][* 3VOLUTION SERIES *][WM6.5 STD 23004][Build 3VO.2.00.071809] )
Anyways, before flashing the device I used SIM manager to backup all phone contacts to my sd card as well as all the SIM contacts to sd card. This resulted in 2 backup files which are Simbackup.dsb & phonebackup.dcb.
When I go into SIM manager to import the backups, I can't. There is no option to do so. Am I missing something? Also, both file extensions are not recognized by windows, not the phone or my desktop. A google search also did not bring back any info on what program I can open these files with.
Can anyone shed some light on how i can retrieve the contacts in these 2 files or how to import them back somehow?

Dopod SIM Manager 1.4.36.365

Hello Friends,
I've recently lost my HTC windows mobile phone, and along with it I've also lost all my phone contacts.
I have a backup of my contact in my PC as a DSB file, I know that i could use the dopod sim manager.cab file to restore my contacts, but the point is I don't have a windows phone to restore it.
Any help on restoring the contact in Windows - 7 Environment.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Warm Regards,

it took me days to find this thread, but its definately worth it cos i had the same problem and it works perfect

What do you meant by unable? Have you sync all the contact before and after the upgrade process? If you haven't sync your contact database with ypur PC Outlook before the process then all your contacts are gone. If syned then do the sync again and all your contacts will be copied to the device.
Is this the real scenario, man?
That happened to me when I tried to restore contacts using SPB Backup. Try to re-sync and not restore.
works fine on mine and haven't heard anyone else complaing about this... try a hard reset perhaps.
i did hard reset it and the problem came back after i restored from backup.
its there a way to delete the contacts manually?

Don't back them up when you come from AKU 2.3!
Use outlook to sync your contacts!
i dont want to hard reset again i just want to delete the contacts.
i am using infomart 2007 and asking it to delete all the contacts hang the software. is there a way to delete all the contact manually?

I guess you have the hard reset again, because you backup screwed up your contact list, I guess the changed something and the old contact just doesn't work with the newer roms.
Same with me, after SPB backup restored, the Contact is unusable.
So, have to HR and use SYNC only....
i had to give up and go back to AKU 2.3. all my contacts are in hebrew and there is no support in this version.
too bad.

Outlook Mobile!!!!

I have just flashed B&Bv3.7 to my Orbit with no hassles what so ever. Only problem I have now is that I can't back-up my contacts using WMDC on Vista. Keeps coming up no Outlook installed on device. Does anyone have Outlook in a cba file please. Thanks in advance.

Cheers "MaskedMarauder", got it figured. Outlook needs to be on the PC for this to work, not the Orbit. Thanks anyway.
By the way, the link you posted works, but the file this refers to is no longer available.

after a ROM flash?

What is the easiest way to get all of my settings contacts and e-mail settings back on my phone after I do a Rom upgrade?
use a backup utility before you re flash
Will a back up remember all the programs and contacts and mail settings?
I'm by no means an expert, but it was my impression that it was not a good idea to restore a backup onto a new rom. Things are not necesarily in the same place and it can cause problems. That being said i don't really know of any solutions for you.
Haven't tried it yet, but the new Spb Backup v2.0 will restore data between upgrades, don't know about each setting though. On the other hand, if it saves all registry settings and certain files (i.e. ".ini") then everything should be the same.
if you're installing another ROM, you'll do best by reinstalling all your programs. this will ensure that the programs work with the newly installed ROM. i use MS Outlook to backup contacts... backing up email settings depends on what you use for email; if you're using a POP3 account, i suggest you reenter them.... in my opinion, using backup software to reinstall your programs, settings, etc., is risky and may cause unexpected issues. good luck!

THANK YOU CORTEZ!!! See I am totally new at this and its a damn good thing I dident listen to people that think they know what they are talking about.
It's outlook that i am useing. Last time I had to call me network administrator from the offi ce to get my e-mail running again. How can I save those settings?

Spb Backup has been incredibly buggy for me on my Telus Touch... does it work well for anyone else?
It freezes unless I do this: back up my documents only, turn off the option to create an exe and don't use encryption.
spb back up and ROM upgrade
so,on the telus touch, have you tried the rom upgrade and used spb backup to restore?

Not dumb, there are always questions when you install new software. But, this is another great feature of Spb Backup, it creates self-extracting restore files, with an option to create a copy of the software as well. So install it to your main memory, and have the files kept on your card. Whenever you need to restore, just run the file, you don't even need the app installed. Also includes a desktop sync app.
Rom update
Thanks for the speedy reply,I'm just looking now for any issues doing Rom update with vista 64(Telus tech said there should be no problem, but I've yet to get the same response twice from them)Ok i hope this new update is worth the sweat!

No prob, almost forgot to mention, after restoring the data, your PC will recognize it as it did before. I really like this feature, thought all my data was going to be duplicated.

WM 6.1 Contact Backup

Hey there.
I've had Kavana's rom for quite a while, but then I decided to go ahead and throw NRG's on there to try it out. Here is my problem: I backed up the contacts using the Sim Manager on Kavana's rom and upgraded. Well, NRG's rom doesn't have the Sim Manager on there so I couldn't load the contacts back (unless I'm blind; very possible).
Any ways to get the contacts back?
Thanks,
James

Good luck,
Thanks but that didn't help (unless I did something wrong, but I followed the directions from the post you directed).
My contacts are backed up into a file called "contactbackup.dcb" if that helps any.
Thanks

Look in the windows folder if Sim Manager is there. Normally it should be there. Let me now if you find the file and I sent you the shortcut who you can put in the start menu.
It's better to use the SMS backup,w hich is in the rom.

Place the .cab on phone and run, it will install and tell you to reboot after the reboot Dopod SIM Manager will be in the start menu.
lol facepalm.
When I see a file on my desktop lookin' like a rar (which in this case would be the .cab) I extract it.
No wonder.
I need to be slapped.
What do you do when the sim manager does not see your old backup file?
Phew, glad I found this post!
I reverted back to the AT&T Tilt ROM and I panicked when I couldn't get the phone contacts back (Around 210 ) Thanks for the help guys!

backup before flashing?

I am confused about one thing. Even if I want to flash the GPS fix, from HTC website - they say everything from phone memory will be deleted.
Will active sync restore all that after the flashing is complete?
I used to have Dell Axim and there was an option in active sync to backup everything. I dont see this option anymore.
I am running SPB mobile shell which I customized and I dont want to loose all that.
Thanks!
Dunno abt flashing a fix but should be the same as flashing a radio which will not erase the data inside. ANyway it is always better to backup before doing any blockpoint changes to your devices
Use PIMBackup or Microsoft MyPhone to backup data. There are others which can also backup program and registry but personally I dun think it is a good idea as different rom operate differently and may cause problems.

Yea thats WINCE 2003 i think. It used to have an option to backup everything! Not in WM phones!
I am sure you can backup SPB settings, just search around, and you will find the answer.
I use sprite backup. I have it from when HTC use to give it for free. I'm not sure if its still free but if u are going back to the same rom u can do a full restore and it will almost be like u never changed anything.
I use Windows Myphone and PIM backup. Both work great, but I think Myphone works better. Plus you can update your calender and contacts and other things from the computer.
i have MyPhone, but I am not sure if this backups anything besides contacts and emails etc

Nope, nothing more than what you mentioned. But as the other user said, spritebackup might be an option. But I wont recommened restoring on a ROM different than what you backed up from.

this is a very good point.
So, to summarize, you guys that load up a different rom every day (twice), do you actually have the time to use the phone at all
