Hey there,
I try to synch my PC with my tp2. I own a PC with Vista and I plugged the TP2 on it. Bute the winmo device center can't find the tp2, so I can't put any files on my phone. The phone is charged via USB, so there should be a connection, but I can't find it in the explorer as a mass storage device...
Is it possible I did something wrong or can you help me fix this problem?
Bye,
Christopher

In connection settings do you have the option to "Allow USB Connections" enabled? make sure that box is ticked.
connect the device first and then open up the winmo device center. it's the only way it works for me.
Swith this checkbox off in the settings: Advanced connections.
When you connect your phone to your pc, open up the device manager and you should find an unknown device in the list. If oyu right click on it, go to update drivers, and then when the wizard comes up, you need to point it to a specific location...
If you then point it to the folder where the mobile device center is installed then it should find the necessary drivers and suddenly your pc will have found your phone
Certainly, this is how I have to do it with active sync on my pc at work (for some reason since connecting my TP2 - previously it had my TyTNII connected - it doesn't automatically recognise the device in terms of using the right drivers).
i had a similar issue, it was zonealarm. Try it with firewall turned off.
Hi all,
I have the same Active Sync connectivity issues, and they happen quite often, I should say... I did some investigation on my own, and after some digging (and talking to some friends), I managed to discover where the problem lies.
It seems that Windows Vista's Active Sync service get's kinda "numb" sometimes... and to "wake" it up, we have to start and stop the service. Here's my workarround:
Before we start, and since you may need use "start" and "stop" the Active Sync service quite often, I suggest you create a batch file (just create a normal text file and rename it to .bat after saving it) containing the following:
net stop rapimgr
net start rapimgr
With this file you'll be able to restart the service with just 2 clicks (followed by a "Y" and the Enter key).
Here are 5 simple steps:
1. After a failed connection attempt, close Windows Mobile Device Center and disconnect your TP2 from USB;
2. Run the batch file you created previously, and wait a couple of seconds after the DOS window disappears;
3. Reconnect the TP2 to USB and wait a few seconds (considering all the TP2 drivers were already automatically installed, if not, wait for them to install);
4. On your TP2, select the Active Sync option. On your PC, open My Computer and you should see your TP2 appear (if not already there ). At this point the Active Sync connection is already established;
5. Open Windows Mobile Device Center and wait a few seconds for the software to "wake up". The software should Connect to your TP2 successfully.
Et voilá. You're all set to replicate via Active Sync, and to transfer files to and from your device via Windows Explorer.
Repeat the process everytime the connection fails (which in my case, it happens quite often ). If it doesn't work the first time, try again, and if it's still not working... there's not much you can do besides restarting your PC and try all over again (blame Microsoft, not me ).
For the Disk Drive not connecting issue, you might want to to take a look into your Windows Device Manager > Storage > Disk Management and check if you can see your memory card in there.
When connected using the Disk Drive option on your TP2, it behaves like any other USB disk/pen drive, and it can be conflicting with another drive letter that already exists on the system (it's stupid but it happens quite often). To solve this particular issue, just change the drive letter associated with the TP2 memory card (it should have no drive letter associated if conflicting) to an available drive letter (right after your CD/DVD-ROM drives). Click OK ando this issue is solved.
Hope it helped...
P.S.: I also have ZoneAlarm (latest version - original copy) with max security definitions, and I can assure you that it has nothing to do with this issue.
It's terrible - tried every suggestion mentionned, but it just won't help.
When trying to update the driver, I can point to c:\windows\WindowsMobile\Drivers, but it won't find a suitable driver.
(I think the driver in Serial should be used, but it won't let me!)
Tried removing and installing WinMobile many times, removing the 'Unknown device' etc., but it just won't help!
This is a problem on every computer I tried with several cables.
However, the device did connect correctly when I still had WM6 on it. Flashed various ROMs from Miri, but for every ROM it's the same problem...
be sure you have checked the "synchronize all computers with connection" and drop down menu "usb" in active sync in your PDA (located in settings tab / active sync - menu/connections)
the naming can warry cause i don't use english wm

Thanks, but of cause I already checked this.
Besides, this should not change the useage of the device as remote disc.
Also, I noticed with the ROM from Atom that the device stops charging as soon as the PC sees something is connected to the USB post. (I only get an unknown device message and that's the only device that is 'installed')
Trouble syncing Tilt and Tilt 2 with Windows Mobile Device Center
I have two laptops and two cell phones. I can sync with the Windows XP laptop with no problem, however, I can't sync with the Vista computer at all. I've even tried reformatting the Vista laptop, but can't get it to sync. I've tried uninstalling the driver for the connection through the Device Manager as well as the Windows Mobile Device Center. Then reinstalling Windows Mobile Device Center and the driver. I've checked the cable and USB port. They work for everything else I can throw at them, but can't get them to sync. Windows Mobile Device Center does not show any devices connected (either Tilt or Tilt2). Any advice?
Laptop 1
Windows XP SP3
Activesync version 4.5
Microsoft Outlook 2007
Laptop 2
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
Windows Mobile Device Center
Outlook 2007
Cell phone 1
AT&T Tilt
Windows Mobile version 6.1
AT&T Tilt 2
Windows Mobile version 6.5
Any update for the connection problems?
Here it still does not work; the device is still not seen as mobile device, but as 'unknown device'.

first off...
What operating system do you have on your computer?
XP=Active Sync
Unplug your phone from the computer
Scroll down to the setting panel (last panel) scroll right or left and UNcheck the first option.
Plug your phone to the USB
I'll assume you have Windows Mobile 6.
Check the settings on your phone, it is possible that a setting is turned off in ActiveSync.
If your on XP, check your desktop ActiveSync settings, ensure that the USB option is turned on. Also, be sure you have the latest version.
Hope that helps.
make sure you have enabled the advanced network functionality in settings>connections>usb
that is what ^ he said but i thought i would give you a little more specific location for it
Hello,
Any of you managed to get ActiveSync over bluetooth working with Windows 7?
Windows 7 does not seem to recognise TP2 as I get a "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" driver error. Tried the known trick to for a driver update and use the Microsoft Windows Mobile driver but still no luck...
Worked perfectly well with my Kaiser.
Thanks
I have it working fine on 2 win7 installs.
Install windows mobile device center. Re pair the phone with pc. Then goto services on the bluetooth for the phone and tick activesync
Works fine on mine too.
Used USB Cable to configure activesync and allow device drivers to be installed. Then configured for BT Sync.
Cheers,
Beasty
ok, got it sorted but it wasn't pretty...
definitely something wrong with TP2 and the HP Bluetooth stack...
1) I removed my tp2 from Devices and Printers
2) Uninstall WMDC 6.1
3) Installed WMDC 6.1
4) Setup partnership with USB connected
5) Paired my TP2 with my laptop (pairing initiated from TP2)
-> I got the same issue mentioned in my 1st post: TP2 is not recognised, flagged with warning icon in Devices and Printers for unrecognised device/driver.
6) Ignored issue in step 5) and launched ActiveSyn over BT and it worked!!
7) Upgraded the driver for the unrecognized device in Device Manager by manually setting the driver to Microsoft Corporation/Windows Mobile-based device support.
It would only work by following the steps above in exact order... been through a lot of trial and error!

Here are the steps I performed to enable Windows 7 to automatically discover and setup the driver:
I performed the same steps as manuv1615, but included these additional steps between steps 3 and 4 above:
a. Make sure TP2 is disconnected from the USB cable
b. On the TP2 device, Go to Settings --> All Settings
c. On the Connections tab click USB to PC
d. Uncheck "Enable faster data synchronization"
e. Resume step 4 from manuv1615
I just:
1) made the TP2 discoverable, then went to pair device
2) Open WMDC on Win 7
3) Rain pair via BT in Win7 taskbar and they paired
4) Under the TP2 BT settings under paired devices click on activesync under the Win7 name
4) on the TP2 I selected sync via BT then I selected the Win7 name
That was it and it worked w/o having to use USB.
Edit: Actually to make the directions clearer, just open WMDC first and skip step 2
Ok here is another simple way:
1) On the TP2 open blue thooth and pair with pc
2) The TP2 is going to select a port in my case port 7
3) When you have the ActiveSync icon under the name of your PC, press and hold the ActiveSync Icon.
4) Select add device
5) The TP2 is going to open the Bluetooth search screen, select the name of your pc
6) Open the windows mobile device center, open mobile device configuration
7) Select connection configuration
8) In allow connections to one of the following; select the same port that the TP2 got in ActiveSync (in my case port 7)
9) Accept
10) In the TP2 Bluethooth screen tap the ActiveSync Icon, it should sync with no problem
Hope it works for you cheers!!
I'm not sure what i did but when I plug my phone into my Vista equipped laptop, it gives me the "USB device not recognized" message. I have done all the general trouble shooting. A friend has a mogul and for Sh**'s and giggles, I plugged his phone in and wala, the drivers instantly downloaded and WMDC wanted to sync with it. Is there a way to format the phone or someway fix this problem so I could sync, flash the phone, and start from scratch??
Open up Settings\Connections\USB to PC if enable advanced network functionality is checked, uncheck it and try again. Thats what i had to do for my HTC 8525 after upgrading to wm6.
My Touch Pro 2 used to sync fine with my old PC running XP, but I seem to be having great problems getting it recognised on my new PC running Windows 7.
I've downloaded Windows Mobile Device Centre 64 bit, but when I connect the phone via USB, it isn't recognised at all and fails to install the correct driver - hence I can't sync.
Any suggestions greatfully appreciated!
I had the same problem
It seems to be 64bit windows 7 only.
Device cannot start code 10 right?
I ended up updating the BIOS on my computer and it fixed the problem. The BIOS update for my computer (core i7 870) had a fix for intel chipset and Iphone sync. Maybe it fixed for win7 64bit and titl2? I don't know if it was coincendece or from rebooting my phone with the reset button.
At any case, it is working now without an update to the phone itself.
I had the same problem, upgraded the BIOS...and still have the same problem. It will work, however, if I shut the phone radio off and start the sync from the handset. I think there is some conflict with sync from the exchange server. Standalone, it works just fine.
i have win7 x64 on my laptop. first time i plugged in my tp2 it displayed an error saying the device driver wasn't installed. then i opened action center and checked for solutions, the driver for windows mobile phone installed and the problem was solved...
I've noticed a similar issue when connecting to my laptop (Win7 x64). After connecting the phone, I get the "usb connect" sound but Device Center doesn't always start. However, I can see the phone connected in "My Computer".
Rebooting my laptop always allows Device Center to start the first time. But when I plug my phone in a second time, Device Center doesn't start.
I did notice that if I create the partnership the first time, Device Center seems to start more regularly than if I don't create the partnership...so maybe that's got something to do with it?
Hi!
I dont have any trouble syncing my TP2 with my winXPsp3 PC.
But when it comes to my new notebook with windows 7x64 i get the following scenario:
When connected for th 1st time, windows dl'ed synccenter and drivers. I then could connect my TP2 and also dig through the data on it (both device and sd card that is...). But i can not sync whatsoever. Every time I start the syncing, I get an error message somewhat like:
"sync couldnt be done, if prob persist, delete device and set up new partnership...".
Any suggestions???
thx

Did your system find and install 64-bit drivers on your Windows7 system the first time you connected your phone to your PC? Actually, I thought this happened automatically when you connected it for the first time. Are you using USB or Wireless for the first time? I think you might need to use USB for the first time connect and setup on Windows 7.

I had an issue like this and had to delete a device from the WMDC. It only has room for two devices. Once I deleted a device (and made sure my phone was set for SLOW activesync), I haven't had any problems. I'm running W7 64 Professional.
However, My device is on WM 6.5.x now.
