Hello,
Sorry if this question has been answered elsewhere but I am a noob to this site. I have looked -promise!
Basically I have had an XDA Orbit on O2 UK which I have had for over a year with no problems. Recently I changed contracts but kept the same phone and O2 sent me a new 3G sim card.
Now when using the device for a long time (such as wi-fi, reading a book in Microsoft Reader, making a call) the phone will lose the phone signal and slow down. If left it will sometimes recover and get a signal again, or sometimes it keeps searching for a signal for a few minutes and then resets itself.
Sometimes when it is searching for a signal the top area of the phone gets warm.
I have tried a hard reset but this has not solved the problem. Is this to do with the 3G sim card? Should I try upgrading the ROM of the radio stack? Or would an entirely new ROM help?
The version details at startup are:
IPL 3.04.0001
SPL 3.04.0000
GSM 02.67.90
OS 3.4.0.0
Please help. Thank you.
Try to upgrade your Radio ROM. That can be a good solution.
Cheers
Thanks -I will try that tonight.
Ok I have updated the radio ROM and I still get the same problem. It will be fine for a bit but then the phone will lose signal, keep searching, and eventually reset itself.
Would using an entirely new ROM help or is the fact that this was not fixed by updating the radio ROM indicate that is this more of a hardware problem?
The details at startup now look like this:
IPL 3.04.0001
SPL 1.11.0000
GSM 03.21.90
OS 3.4.0.0
Thank you.
Yes... That looks like a hardware problem to me, since you upgrade your Radio ROM.
But for a last test you can flash a WM6.1 ROM and see if the problem is the same.
If it maintains then is surelly a hardware problem.
Cheers
I don't usually post on these forums but have been a reader for some time!
There are some things you need to know about 3G before you use this handset with this sim!
it's against your terms and conditions to use a none 3G handset with your sim 3 can and will cut your number off (ive seen it happen)
secondly 3 only have 3G netowrks they use orange's masts for when customers drop out of signal range to 2g. Hence your using orange masts which take it from me are rubbish! they have some of the worst reception in the country and ive only recently stopped selling mobile phones i doubt they changed much in 6 months!
to cut it short you need a 3G phone to go with your 3G sim im afraid this handset is not capable of 3G .
Hi thanks, for your comments.
I am not using a 3 sim card, it is an O2 3G sim card. I have tried today to reflash the O2 UK ROM image with the original settings to see if this helps but it still spends a long time without a signal and resets itself when it cannot get a signal for a while.
Is anyone else using a 3G sim card in this phone?
It worked well enough for me today to ring O2 and ask them if I could be "downgraded" to a 2G sim card. They said that they don't even do 2G sim cards anymore, but they said if I go to O2 store they may have a 2G pay as you go sim, and instead of activating it they could transfer my account details over to it. Anyone heard of that before?
When I went to the shop they said they didn't have any 2G sims and to reset the phone and try to get the settings sent to the phone from O2 online. Which I have done but surprise surprise no luck -not that I really believed the guy in the shop anyway but thought it was worth a try.
Any comments or suggestions?
Thanks.
Just to update, I have tried so many different things to get this fixed but it seems as though the 3G sim card is not the problem, as all fixed now by buying a replacement battery.
Now the phone works fine all of the time -it does not lose signal or anything. The old battery must have been faulty.
I do not know the exact fault but my guess is that when I turned the phone on at startup it was ok, but then as soon as I did anything it was drawing more current/amps from the battery it generated a fault which then made the phone lose signal and eventually reset.
I'm not sure on the science of it all exactly but it buying a new battery on ebay for £7 has certainly fixed the problem.
The Orbit/Artemis works fine with a 3G USIM -they are backwards compatible with a 2G SIM card and this obviously was not the problem.
Hi.
I have a similar problem... my o2 xda orbit for the last few days keeps hanging and reseting. It takes some time for me to be able to turn it on again.
even if i take out the battery and put it back in again...
Is this similar to what happened to you?

I think that I had the same problem but with a normal 2g sim. After an
intensive use over 1,5 years my Artemis p3300 had low signal and frquently resetting. I resolve all these problems changing the battery with a new one. It's important advise all Artemis owners that a lot of problems can be due to an old battery!
Yes that's basically exactly what happened to me. It would lose signal, keep searching then eventually reset. When I turned it back on it would still not have a signal and would take lots of times of turning it on and off before it would settle down again.
I bought a new battery from ebay for £4.95 (+£2.95 p&p) and now everything is working fine and has been for over a couple of weeks.
I had tried changing the ROM and still had the same problem. I would advise you to get a new battery and try that.
Hi, I am from CZ... - P3300 by Vodafone CZ
When I connect to wifi I sometimes lose the signal for phone.. One time I lose signal during the phoning and sometimes I lose signal when I use GPS...
Phone is 1,6 years old...
It is the same problem, isn't it?
It's a pity :-(
Can you give me an advice where I can buy the best battery? Should I buy a battery in CZ (home) or in abroad I can find cheaper and better??
(sorry about my english)
Yes that sounds like the same problem to me, I got a new battery from ebay because I thought it would probably be cheapest.
Try Vodafone first as they will be able to sell you a new battery and it may not be too expensive.
Hey Guys,
Long time peruser first time poster. Heres the deal, got a HTC-S621 (on 8/15/08) with the Kavana_080408 ROM. Worked for a good while (until 8/23/08) until I used it on talkshoe.com then it simply stopped working. I can not receive a signal or on the rare occasion I do get reception, the phone can not communicate (no text, or calling service... Not even basic network communications)
but:
When I take the SIM out and put it in my old phone, the old phone worked.
When I use my wife's sim card from an alternate carrier, the S621 works.
The S621 does NOT work with SIM cards from T-Mobile.
I flashed the ROM at least 5 times (different ROMs) since the problem occurred, and the S621 still can not pick up the carrier signal.
so I'm deducing:
The radio is fine since alternate carrier sims work.
the sim is fine since it (and the recent prepaid sim i purchased) work in my previous phone.
there must be a registry entry or app that should resolve this issue.
Thanks in advanced for your helpful replies.
Reflash to 6.0 and see if the problem persists....if yes, return the phone with 6.0 on it and get a new one.

After the problem occurred, I installed:
The official Rogers WM6 rom
The official HTC Brightpoint rom
The official T-Mobile Dash rom
and the originally installed 080408 Kavan rom
of which an alternate carrier sim worked. The question still remains, "why do the T-Mobile sims not work". I have more affinity for the phone then I have for T-Mobile. Switching would be cheaper then buying a new phone but I would rather try to solve this issue.
Does anyone know how to force radio acceptance from the phone to the tower?
Maybe just maybe your sim is damaged?

Oh.. Your going to love this part of the tale.
Like I mentioned before, swapping out my sim for my wife's sim makes the phone functional. So of course I can't just take her sim, so we decided to go to the T-mobile store after church this past Sunday.
SO. I walked in and store and DEMOED the whole tragedy in front of the store rep. And I purchase a new sim for 20 bucks.
Put it in... booted up.... BUBKISS!
Then the Rep. thought the new sim was faulty or something so he got another new sim.
Same results.
Got my wife's sim.... it worked.
So I went home deflated and then I thought hey... it could be a lock on my number and the IMEI number, so I went back to the store a purchased ANOTHER sim. A pre-paid sim. 7 bucks.
El' NUMERO CERO!
But my wife's sim stinking works! Uhg!
So... Recap...
3 Sim changes
T-mobile: -3 Other Carrier: 1
Ok... to be fair... as stated above, my T-Mobile sim worked for a week and some days before problems arose.
hmmm weird.
Here's an idea, give your Dash to your wife?

Oh we wise guy...Why I aughta...
A friend of mine thinks it might be the antenna specifically the GPRS but then I trying to figure out if thats the case, why does my wife's sim work? why would the antenna presumably not work at 850mhz and olny work at 1900mhz and why doesn't the phone tell the t-mobile tower that? All assumption though.
Installed Dash WM5 image and it didn't help. Does anyone know where the antenna is located?
its internal
i would jus tell t-mobile about it... and maybe u will get a free one.. jus go off on them til u get one he he he thats wat i did.. wen one of my buttons stopwrkin..

hmm.. so its not likely that it can be jarred loose or is segmented physically for the individual frequencies.
Guess I'll get a sim from my wife's carrier.

That might work if i bought the phone. It was a gift from my brother... likely from a pawn shop or off of ebay.
Which leads you back to my suggestion
I'm going to switch carriers (via a prepaid sim) for a month then merge with my wife's plan if it lasts the trial.
Guys I need help. Today while at work in my pocket, my phone lost all signal totally and won't pick it up again. I was running CM9 Beta 1 and I've seen people say they've had similar problems so I tried reflashing, nothing happening. I've since tried Trip's version of CM9 and LeeDroid, no service. With Leedroid it at least recognises that I've removed the SIM, but putting it back in isn't helping. I haven't dropped it, it hasn't gotten too hot, it's just stopped functioning. Do I need to relock and hope they'll repair? This is my only phone and I dread being without it for weeks. I bought it SIM unlocked from Carphone Warehouse about three months ago, so the chances of a swap seem remote.
Big problems on o2 at the min if that's who u r with
I'm on Giffgaff, so sort of. It seems odd that it won't find any network at all though, even without SIM..
signal
i'm on o2 also...got no signal...o2 totaly down by the live service status once i got the page to load..
O2's service page claims Blackpool should be working.
tried to ring customer services and cant get through from landline either..
O2 is giffgaff and tesco mobile aswell
All off the same network
Yeah. I HOPE I'm one of the affected customers as it means my One X isn't broken, but I've surveyed half a dozen local O2/giffgaff users I know and they're all working fine, so I'm either unlucky or very unlucky.
Mine is fine, but i know many with none workin sim card, they do know about it and r fixing as we speak
i thought mine was broken also. also did a checkmend imei report as i thought it had been blocked. still have no network now..
just came back a min ago......yeahhhh..
spoke too soon...lol

My 2 month old One X seems to have developed a problem today, with it's GSM/UMTS radio. Was working fine this morning in Dublin. Caught a ferr y back to the UK and it was still fine but by the time I got to my office in Chester, it was showing no service. I just put it down to a local issue with the Vodafone network. But, on the 200 hundred mile drive back to London, despite rebooting and trying to force it to re-register as GSM, WCDMA in GSM/WCDMA modes, I've still not managed to get anything other than No Signal. Clearly not a general Vodafone network problem as the UK news and internet sites would be all over it.
I got back home and tried the other Vodafone SIM that I use in my Galaxy Tab (screwing up the SIM slot in the Tab, in the process) but exactly the same problem. I've spoken to Vodafone and despite me trying the other SIM, they've just said it looks like your SIM isn't registering with the network, so we'll send another out. All good except I'm off on holiday tomorrow.
I'm wondering if the radio "chip" itself has gone AWOL and wondered if there is any way to diagnose that on the handset itself? Any ideas if that's possible or anything else I can try to diagnose the issue?
Failing that, I guess it needs to go back to HTC for repair/replacement. Anybody know how warranty repairs work and how long it's likely to take to resolve and anything I should do with the phone beforehand?
You need to try your sim in another phone to eliminate the sim card
If its the same in another phone its the sim if it works fine its the phone
Hello,
A bit about my Nexus: Bought it online, it's the Domoco version, unlocked, rooted and been using just fine with many custom ROMs.
So yesterday morning, I was talking on the phone with a friend without any problem. After hanging up for a few hours, when I was about to call someone else, I realized my phone didn't have any signal at all. And it has been like that until now, about 48 hours.
It happened so suddenly without any warning. The phone has never been dropped and everything else working just fine.
So here's what I have tried:
- Restart the phone (multiple times)
- Batter pull (multiple times)
- Factory reset the phone (multiple times)
- Wipe cache and dalvik cache in CWM (multiple times)
- Downloaded SetCPU and set the minimum to 700Mhz (instead of 350Mhz)
- Reflash the ROM and tried with other Custom ROMs (I tried Xenon, Xylon, PA, and Carbon ROMs)
- Reflash the Radio and tried with other Radios too (I tried UILH1, XXLH1, SC04DOMLE3 and some others ...)
- I also went to Tmobile and request a new sim card - same problem.
- I borrowed a sim card from another Tmobile customer to try it on my phone - no signal - but the sim card works just fine on his phone.
I ran out of thing to try and I dont understand what happened ... anyone has an idea or something else for me to try ?
Anyone experience this before ?
Welcome too my hell. I have a playstore one now but my first Gnex was an international one and it has this same issue. Its a PCB problem a warranty would fix. I'm near Chicago and a few people have told me there is an electrical engineer downtown that fixes stuff like this. I don't have a price but I think something like this is your only option. Mine sadly is still a battery charger:thumbdown:

I know it sounds stupid, but have you tried toggling airplane mode? I run into the occasional loss of signal when im at work [fair to weak signal in the big metal box], and a reboot is the only thing that fixes it for me. Mines a play store model.

Ah yes, I actually did try that too but forgot to mention. I tried toggle airplane mode on and off, also the 2G only mode on and off. But it didn't help with anything.
Thanks for the suggestion.

So I guess I have to look for an electrician then, cause I have this phone just a little bit over a year so warranty is a no go for me.
Thanks for the idea.
PS: anyone else has more option for me ? I just wondered if I have bricked my phone ... cause I flashed lots of diff. ROMs to try out but never gotten a bricked phone before, could this be a bricked phone ?
Bricked refers to a phone that does what a brick does: nothing. It doesn't boot, it does not light or attempt to boot, it does nothing. This is a signal issue..I have no prior experience with docomo, but this thread came up on search: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574018, maybe it'd be helpful. Have you converted it to yakju or takju and tried a google factory image?
And this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554150. If it is a circuit board, it kinda looks like s.o.l., and im sad to say that to you.
I wanted to let you know that I experienced the same issue. I bought the unlocked Docomo Galaxy Nexus, and had it working fine on T-Mobile for half a year, and then suddenly had no signal on Tuesday. Nothing I did - factory reset, battery in and out, sim card in and out - could fix it. Have you tried using different sim cards in your phone to see what works and what doesn't?
I figured out that my phone will accept AT&T, and actually does connect to T-Mobile while roaming (I used an international sim card). But, my phone will say "Cannot find mobile network" when any T-Mobile sim card is inserted.

I also have the same problem with the docomo phone. ATT Sim card works. Tried other's T-mobile sim cards and it doesn't work. I wonder if somehow the IMEI has been blocked by T-mobile.

I know others who bought their GNEX through the Play Store and those work just fine with T-mobile. I tried their sim cards in my phone and it doesn't work. I don't think T-mobile is intentionally blocking the docomo phones, because I'm getting T-mobile through roaming, when I use an international sim. My guess is they're doing something to the cell network that just somehow leaves our configuration out. Hopefully it's temporary, but who knows.
Worse case, I'll just purchase a Nexus 4, because I love 4G data for just $30/month with T-mobile. Anyone else got suggestions?

Alright, update on this and there' good news. I called Tmobile and they said my IMEI is actually Blocked. The reason, according to him, is that Tmobile usually sweep the network to clean up all "un-supported" devices, so my device is apparently one of them and therefore got blocked about 2 days ago.
So he said for this, he needs to escalate it to business support and they surely can unblock it for me, but I have to wait until Monday since they don't work on weekend. But well, that's surely a good news. phewwwwwwwwwwwwww !!!
So to all of you guys who are in the same situation, make sure you call Tmobile first before flashing crazy like I did LOL.
Thanks for all the help.
I'd love to know if you are able to get this unblocked and working as I have the same problem as of Tuesday. I was traveling and went into a TMO store, and they told me it was NOT IMEI blocked. In fact they looked at the IMEI and read the page and said 'it was not eligible for blocking'.
I called TMO to see if my phone is IMEI blocked, and through three levels of support the universal answer was no. I'm now fully confused because if it's a hardware issue, why did several people all have the same problem all on Tuesday. For those others who are having issues, can you see the TMO network but not connect to it? That's what I have, I can see TMO and AT&T but haven't been able to connect to either one since Tuesday.

I'll call up T-Mobile tomorrow and ask if they IMEI blocked my device. I had them reset my signal and give me a new SIM card, but didn't realize it could have been IMEI blocked. I'll give them a call on Monday and let you know what the result is. Maybe it won't be too late to cancel my order on that Nexus 4...
I'm quite confused. I've been told last Thursday in a TMO store and with tech support that I didn't have an IMEI block, and the same with three reps tonight. I know the Sim Card is good, and so I'm being told its a hardware issue. However, several of the same phones had the same issue on the same day, so I can't buy it's a hardware issue. Has anyone with this issue flashed a new or different radio into the phone, either before or after the service loss? I have not, running it as it came out of the box.
I just got off the phone with T-Mobile Support, and they told me the device is not blocked. The reason is that T-Mobile cannot block or unblock devices that are not registered to T-Mobile. So I'm back to square one on this.
chowabbajack - When did you first have a problem, last Tuesday? Did you prior to that do any flashing or radio changes to the phone?

That makes me think its something to do with the radio software, because I am the same the problem overall doesn't seem as large as the number of phones I perceive were bought on the Docomo deal.
Ive been using the docomo version of the nexus as well on tmobile for almost a year and it was since last tuesday when it no longer recieved any singal. with some digging around and too many phone calls, I found that the imei number on the phone is not the same as the one under the battery. i have the generic 004999010640000 imei right now and it not sure how i got it. as i bought it unlocked.
what i have tried:
reboot, battery plug, reinsert sim, factory reset, root and flash, got a new sim card, relocked, unlocked
sim card works on other phones.
also i have called tmobile and samsung endlessly and this is what i got:
tmobile cannot unblock the imei since it is not from them.
samsung is redirecting me to their japan branch.
docomo i cannot reach.
my phone before last tuesday:
unrooted stock 4.2.1
been testing different things to see if there is any way to restore the imei
also using root explorer, i cannot find my efs folder....
I've got the same problem since last Tuesday with my GNex and T-Mobile.
Mine is not from docomo though, but the French phone provider SFR, unlocked through FDocomo apk.
Rooted phone, running 4.2.1., no changes whatsoever in the past month and it worked fine until Tuesday, so I don't think I'm responsible for having no signal.
Honestly, I am relieved to see we are quite a few to have this problem, and also very pissed at T-Mobile for causing all this. What should be the next step then? Is there any chances they fix the issue quickly? If not, I might just go to the competition. I've tried AT&T sim cards and they work fine.

I have the exact same generic IMEI number as you, which does not match the number under the battery. I'm not liking the news that you did flash and still no go. I'm a novice at this stuff so please keep us posted.
