I need to change the keymapping file in the windows section of the 6.5 roms for a norwegian version of the htc 620s.
I dont seem to be able to access the windows section from my pc (hidden) and the eT9.Excalibur.0409.kmap.txt seems the be protected from editing/replacement while trying to work with it from the phone.
Ive read some threads where people have written that have been able to edit the txt to suit some keymapping issues. But how do you do it ?
Any guidelines would be most appreciated
Hi, bruv. In attach u can find my eT9 for english keyboard. For editing it u need edit 2-nd column(it's letters then show then u tap button), 2-nd column(symbols produced by Fn + key), 3-d column (symbols in 123 mode).
NOTE!!! 1-st and last columns don't need editing!!!
For example u need printed 'W' then u pressed 'Q' button

Ok, so ive put the bindings (hopefully right) according to your template. But how do i get it to replace the english keymap in the wm6 windowsfolder ? It seems read only protected?
Try put it in over dir on your PPC and juts copy with replace or make *.cab and install it or copy from PC- i do it and all successfully .

Well, the rom, as it turned out, resat the original keymap after reboot, and TC somehow stopped wanting to work on it.
But as a final solution I disassembled the evo rom and substituted the keymap with the one I wanted, and built and reflashed. And it works well.
If anybody needs the 6.5 evo rom with norwegian layout ill upload and link.
You make a long way . You can make *.cab file with your *.kmap.txt and install it on your phone. It's worked well .

How did you customize your keymap?
After I flash up new rom, when I press and hold "Q" it appear % (not !), hold "N" => & (not @)...
I have tried to install et9 full, EnglishTegicEt9US... but can not solve it, I also tried to replace file Et9.Excalibur.0409.Keymap.txt in Window folder but there was nothing changed
I have this trouble with both of rom: 6.5 3VO 1.30 and 6.5 3VO 1.40
Could you help me to solve it?

You can go into your control panel in classic mode and choose folder options and choose to unhide everything so you can see the system files.. but unfortunately that won't work since your device controls the permissions for those windows files on your phone. when you try to edit them your computer will still tell you that you do not have the permissions needed

Copy the attached Norwegian keyboard file in the Windows folder of your s620 and soft reset. Make sure the file is set as read-only.
You should then have Norwegian keyboard!

As far as i know you can customize FN symbols this way:
- with a regedit program take note of the filname (eT9.*.kmap.txt) in this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime\KeyboardLayouFiles\07FF
- copy this *.kmap.txt file from phone Windows folder to PC
- edit 4th and 5th row with the special charachters you need
- save as Unicode with another name (say eT9.Rhodium.0410custom.kmap.txt for a Rhodium phone)
- copy new file from PC to phone
- with a regedit program modify this key with the new file name:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime\KeyboardLayouFiles\07FF
- soft reset
I've done it on a Rhodium but should be the same with other phones.

As anyone who's installed the new I-Mate ROM and Extended ROM will be aware. The extended ROM removes the rather nice "Wireless" information panel from the Today Screen.
I have managed to restore it on my device, and have posted the reg file for anyone else who misses this addition.

Try placing this dll into your Windows directory, then run the reg file.
No promises though.
didnt work, i had that dll aswell, nothing messed up so i assume they wer the same, i want to get this cos it looks dead handy
It worked here.
1. download the dll and place it in \windows\ dir.
2. run the reg file from MDA.
3. go to settings => today => items. en check wireless en press OK.
the item will appear on your today screen. thnx for the tip.

these files are the good ones. the dll file is 0 Bytes, but working here. first past the dll and AFTER that run the reg file.

ok ive been looking at this dll, or actually i cant, wen u extract the file it is extracted, however it is not available at all, as in it does not show up, not even as a hidden file, i have no security setting regarding the extraction of zip files or any other compressed file, the funny thing is wen i go to extract it again in the same place as before it asks to replace the file, i dont know wat the craic is with this, could u please modify ur attributes of the file from not being hidden or read only just to be safe and upload it again please

Everybody should have the DLL in win dir, since it's not used only for the wireless app. Just have a look enambling the "show all files" option in explorer.
Observations with ROM 1.20.32 WWE
OK my observations are that
netui.dll is in the ROM and does not show in Pocket File Explorer at all, not even when set to "Show all"
If you use Resco Explorer 5.15 you can find if
netui.dll 140K 10/26/2005
It is a Read-only, Hidden, System, ROM file
Adding the registry settings does not enable the today pluggin.
I just tested this on my Wizard (K-JAM) and it works a treat.
The dll was part of the i-mate ROM already so once the registry keys had been added, the plugin enabled immediately (no soft-reset required).

Agreed. I also tested this registry change with my T-mobile A2DP rom and with no luck.
The registry add the selection under setting / today / item but when you select and it doesnt show on the today screen.
It may only work with 1.30 ROM.

1. Make Transparent File .Gif size 120*20 pixels and rename it to carrierlogo.gif

Interesting - what I'd like to know is the effect this will have on roaming.
And how you put the transparencies into the images (since I don't have Photoshop or Fireworks).
Edit: just a warning, 'shoppers. The phonepad seems to like displaying the colour White as "transparent", tho why it does so I have no idea. I guess that solves my problem, tho.
Is this workable on the Hermes / Dopod 838Pro too? I have this phone but I can't find the carrierlogo.gif file in the specified folder.
You don't need the carrierlogo.gif to be present at the beginning. Just place your carrierlogo.gif in /Windows/, soft reboot, and it should magically work.
I hear O2 actually hardcodes carrier detection so performing this trick results in a blank carrier, but that doesn't seem to be the case on my Atom - the only problem I ran into was white being interpreted as transparent.

I think this hack was advertised in the forums once - tho my first experimentations with it wasn't too much of a success. I managed to create my own 120X20 image file, and threw it in, only to find that the bloody thing truncates my logo at 120X19 (so it's missing its bottom). The price of using an unofficial dialer, I guess.
I'm a gonna try 240X40 when I get back. I didn't know it was *that big*.

I tested this on 6.1 and the wait cursor isn't transparent, and the "X" is huge and ugly. I'm guessing it's an issue with 6.1 compatibility.

Correct dude.. the shellres file is from 6.5 os and has different gwes compatibility.. the icons would need to be added to a 6.1 shellres file to work correctly.

nice work first of all,
but i have the same problem as another user, it changes all my status icons,
I only want to change the cursor!
All you would need to do then is just take this file and extract the .bmp pics and then open your shellres file and replace them.
I guess I should be more clear. the only way to change the wait cursor is to edit the images in shellres and unfortunatly that file contains other images also so naturally if you overwrite this file over urs it will change other icons also

I've downloaded shellres.98.dll but i can't find it anywhere in Resco Explorer. Can u teach me on how to get the files and replace them? I'm quite a newbie.

2 - where did you download the file to?
WINMO doesn't like to play with that file as it is a system file, I had no luck myself with transferring it using a file manager.

I have realized that the notifications tab when you press the top part of the screen is pretty useless and works easily even when you are ending your call and touch it via your ear; it's awful. I can not even see my remaining battery easily because of this.
So the question is; is there any way to get rid of this tab and have the old grid type, big icons style notifications tab?

Great program, though for some reason the first time I installed it it went into endless reboots, did a hard reset and everything seems fine now, so just make sure you backup first

I tried this method (uninstalling MONX_RHODIUM_LARGE_TITLEBAR and after soft reset installing MONX_RHODIUM_NOTIFICATION_TOPBAR_RESTORE) but it does not restore the original titlebar yet now I am stuck with default WM notifications which I hate!!!
Can you please tell me if there is a manual method (copying files, checking reg keys) to restore this and please post the files?

Thanks for your reply Monx. I removed the LargeTitleBar key and verified the Dll was set correctly (it was) and did a soft reset but unfortunately I keep getting the default WM notifications.
I noticed below the NOTIFICATIONMANAGER there is a key called NOTIFY:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\NOTIFY]

"Dll"="NOTIFY.Dll"
Is this a original key or a leftover from some other notifications cab?
I don't think it matters much though, I tried removing the key and I could not notice any difference so I put it back.
I am getting a bit desparate... I was just about to make a full backup before I noticed this so I would really like to get it working again.
Could it be the NotificationManager.dll file is damaged or lost?

I didn't experience any reset loops on my Sprint TP2. I just disabled TF3D before installing, reset, and re-enabled TF3D.
Warning: if you do not follow the steps to the letter....you can brick your phone and have to hard reset
You can make your own custom icons for your phone by following these steps:
(I will use the start menu icon as an example)
1) find an image you want to use
2) use an image editing program (included in post) to make it the proper size and format (for the start menu icon it has to be a .ico 25x25 32-bit graphic). Most programs have a resize option...the one I included in this post allows you to resize, and save in a variety of formats (instructions on how to install the icon plugin for the program are in the icocur.zip file...just unzip both archives , and install the program to use). Just go to the image tab, select "resize" and put in the desired pixel size. Next, go to the file tab and select "save as", and select the desired file format. If you are replacing another icon on the phone you can always look at the resolution and file format using your resource editor to assure you have the right size and format.
3) use the instructions in this thread to put the icon into the .dll resource file (for the start menu icon it is #18 in tapres.dll found in the /windows directory...just copy to desktop and edit)
4) DO NOT FORGET TO DIGITALLY SIGN THE FILE USING THE SIGNER IN THE THREAD LINKED ABOVE
5) copy the revised file back to the windows directory (either using activesync, or resco, or total commander)
6) reboot...and you have a new icon

Question folks...what other DLL files contain icons that can be changed? thanks in advance!
Just from what I have tinkered with...i think cmhomeres.dll has something (but that may only be txt, not pix)....but for sure bronzeres.dll...venture around the windows folder...some DLL's may have images, i don't know all of them
didn' work with WM 6.1, cant replace file.dll. what can I do?
try using resco explorer...just copy it to your storage card, and then use resco to move it to the windows directory.

If they are custom just look @ the .lnk with notepad and it will show the resorce .dll, regards extracting from ROM check link about 2 posts above.
ok well I followed the tutorial to the letter and bricked twice now. I'm using a T-Mobile Dash 3G/winmo 6.5 official rom. Is there a way to do this WITHOUT bricking? Thank you.

holy crap I thought this thread was dead, and WHAM a ninja appears!! Thank you styles I appreciate the quick response. I'm not really sure how to install the certs. Are those what came in the file editor suite?
Has it got to do with color info possibly? I don't mind fooling with the files provided all that happens is a hard reset is needed.
I've been going insane wanting to do global skinning for winmo 6.5 but with things like highlight it's not an image but a defined color bar. Plus I can't even begin to find the taskbar images to alter so....
PS. I didn't mean to sound ungrateful and petulant if I did in my earlier post. I was a bit angry at my phone...lol.
If you ever want to do some collaborative work let me know, I have years of skinning experience with several different devices and such.
EDIT: Ok, I think I know what you mean. There's a WM SDK Certs.cab that came with SmartToolKit rc09, will that work or should I try to find a newer one?
EDIT 2: Well I installed the certs from the file editor suite you provided, (both sdk and the certificate.cab and even switched from pe explorer to reshacker and it still bricked. Basically what the phone is doing is upon reboot it gets to the windows bootscreen and won't display the homescreen. I can hear the phone doing something when I scroll so I know it's not locked up completely but I can't access my homescreen and the PC fails to recognize it. Dunno what I am doing wrong but it's annoying none the less...lol.
