Delete folder
Hi
Delete the folder called 2577 (or something similar) from the root of your storage card before hard resetting.

CoPilot cant be uninstalled from your phone there are some threads already about it here... Have to wait tilll xda-devalopers come out with some uninstall tool or the CoPilot comp. ...

has anybody already written to HTC or CoPilot asking for a uninstall prog? ...
if so - it would be nice if you can post the replies from them!

I'm sorry but this really is a scandal. I always scan the license agreement quickly, but I didn't find anything at the time. Thanks for your replies. I hope some XDA developers finds some way to uninstall it.
I'll keep trying, but I'm not an expert with mobile phones like some people here are. The weird thing is that I didn't know you can change something on the phone that will always be on there. without a rom update.
(copilot did obviously)
So that's good but also a bit scary news, that with only a installation you can change the ROM. (well it's news for me)

Have you contacted either HTC or Copilot? What was their answer?
If you believe this is such a scandal, perhaps you should.

well, contacted copilot and still waiting for some reaction.

hi, if copilot is preinstalled in your phone, you cannot uninstall it unless you flash your phone with a new rom (without preinstalled copilot). better wait for HDSPL in order to flash other customized roms.

All I want to do is install a full version of CoPilot

All I want to do is install the full licenced version. When I do there is obviously an old licence key somewhere, when I launch copilot it bombs out saying an incompatible licence file exists and doesn't give me the chance to install the propoer one I have purchased. I'm going to call ALK on Monday but does anyone have any ideas in the meantime?

How to hit your query to ALK?

Windows marketplace

Ok so does any one know how to make apps downloaded on marketplace install on the memory card.
If you install this cab it will make Market Place ask where you want to install.
View attachment WMMarketplace_sdcard.cab
you are the shiznittyditty... thanks
Is the CAB installed after the Marketplace install or before?
I am not sure if it is just me or all Tilt 2 owners... has anyone noticed that there are NO new applicaitons? I tried to search on a pocketnow.com widget and had no luck. Just curious if anyone else noticed?
There is supposed to be a catagory called "Lifestyle/Recreation" Can't find it either.
There are a few new apps iv noticed recently so they are coming through.
i thought it wasn't being updated either. it's just that the apps are coming through slowly.

Doesn't matter. The CAB will install a new version of Marketplace, after uninstalling the old one. Ironically, if your version of Marketplace was in the stock ROM, you now have the option of installing it to the SD card!
Just isntalled the CAB, and it works great! Didn't even have to soft reset.
My question, the program always checks for the latest version. Is it safe to assume that when/if an update happens, the option to install on SD will get wiped out?

If you have the hacked version of Marketplace that allows app installation to your MicroSD, that was based on an older version of Marketplace. And unfortunately, you need to have a current version in order to connect to the store. The current version seems to be more locked down, and the folks here haven't been able to crack it yet.
Check here for updates:

Yea i just read that whole thread.... and tried to install the XDA-Developers-patched-WMMarketplace_sc.cab
No luck though.... MS is retarded to make it this hard to download Apps
Agreed.
The first page of that thread is being updated with the status of any new fix. Hopefully a fix will come soon. Although, it probably wouldn't be long for MS to "update" the Marketplace software again, and force another "fix".

Email folder synchronization - Problem with WM 6.5

I just got a Tilt 2 from ATT. One of the first anoying things I've noticed is that when I configured Windows Live, that I could not choose which folders to sync. Before, I could go into Hotmail (once I've configured in Windows Live) and then go to Menu --> Tools --> Manage Folders (I believe that was the option). From there I could select which folders I wanted to sync. Now, when I click on Menu, I don't see any option for this. So, I can only read the email in my inbox and I cannot read the email in Junk or any other folder.
If anyone knows a work around for this, I would appreciate it.
I had the same issue on my T-Mobile TP2 when I used the T-Mobile upgrade to 6.5. I made same request and someone told me to run the upgrade again. Oddly enough it worked. I don't know if you can find the ATT 6.5 ROM, but if you can, try to give that a shot or maybe even a hard reset.
I don't know why, but it did work for me.
Thank you. I think that I will use the homecooked ROM on this site. If I'm going to reimage this thing, I might as well be for an improvement.
Problem solved. I downloaded Windows Live services from Microsoft's website and installed it. Once the install finished I got all my old school options. Looks like the default one does not work.

You can use that link to download it to your phone, or PC first, either will work.
Another fix
If you turn off HTC Sense (or 3D flow, what ever you want to call it) then you can make these adjustments to Windows Live.

Install GTalk on Orange Desire

The version of Desire supplied by Orange lacks Google Talk, amongst a few other annoyances (Orange love to bugger around with firmware). Is there any way of installing it, as it doesn't appear to be installable from Market?
Is this a case of getting the apk from a standard Desire (from where?) and installing it? Or replacing Orange's image with the default (which I think isn't possible yet)?
I'll confess to being new to Android. I apologise if I'm asking stupid questions!
If you go to the nexus one forum, download a rom that isn't cyanogen and then extract it on yout pc, you should find in one of the folders all of the apps, one of them would be gtalk.apk or talk.apk

Just spoke to some numpty at orange about this and the fact i want to delete some of the rubbish they've put on, the first guy cut me off as had no clue then I called again and they said it was a third party app!? They have no idea basically; I wish they would leave things alone, I hope that more people will complain and in an update they will sort it, I had a Hero before and with all the same apps as I had on that I've got less free memory due to the rubbish they put on!
Other than that what a fantastic phone!

No joy so far. I downloaded one of the MoDaCo ROMS, found Talk.apk but it won't install. Installer just says "application not installed". I'll try another later.

I've been digging around a bit more. I found nothing called IMService in that ROM, but two others that could be prerequisites - gtalkservice.apk (Google Talk Storage) and TalkProvider.apk (Google Talk Storage). When trying to install either of those, it tells me in each case that it is already installed and the same version.
Time for a bit more trial and error then. It's a shame the installer doesn't give a more useful error message than "application not installed"!

If it weren't for the fact that I need reception in places where Orange is still the only operator to have reliable coverage, I'd have dropped them a long time ago because of this.
It would be nice to think they would listen to reason. I doubt that will happen. You'll only ever get to speak to a numpty, and what do they care anyway — you have already signed up to the contract.
You can replace the Orange ROM with a standard HTC one (I assume this comes with it, I'm still using the Orange one)

How would one do that? I'd be quite happy to use the standard ROM.
There nothing apparent to me that came with it - there's no ROM on the SD card or anything like that.
If orange have removed it from their firmware then be careful, you might end up with a call about using your mobile data for things not included in your contract.
I want Gtalk on my Orange Desire too!!
I read on Android Forum... someone said you can remount the file back to the phone(on Hero).
QUOTE
1. Download the Android 1.6 recovery image @ HTC - Developer Center
2. Open up the recovery image via WinRAR, WinZip or whatever
3. Locate gtalkservice.apk and ImProvider.apk in \system\app
4. Copy those files to your SDCARD and then unmount when done.
5. Go into Terminal Emulator and enter these commands:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp /sdcard/ImProvider.apk /system/app
cp /sdcard/gtalkservice.apk /system/app
reboot
The phone will return back to normal. This works on any type of ROM!
you should be able to remount the talk.apk etc. back, I tried the command in terminal but "access denied"... is it because the phone is locked to orange so I cant modify internal memory??
anyone got ideas???
As I understand it, you need to "root" your phone to do that, and that can't be done yet on the Desire - but clever people are working on it.
I've been trying to install talk.apk from other sources, but haven't succeeded yet. I've not yet seen imservice in any 2.1 ROMs.
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
If you go into the Developers part of the Desire forums there are a couple of threads related to installing the generic HTC version of the Desire ROM
I did it by just installing Talk.apk that I got off another 2.1 ROM. I used ASTRO to browse to the file and then install it.
i believe its against orange internet t&c's to user messenger type applications. on windows modile phones they have "orange messanger" where they're cheeky enough to try to charge you for instant messages LOL
Which ROM did you use? I've tried a couple and they've failed to install.

[Q] Market on Defy? How?

Hi All,
After having HTC Windows mobile phones for quite a few years, i've gone to an Android Motorola Defy.
Its frustrating for me to get used to, I love the idea of Cab files and the simple installs. The .apk system seems to be the go, but my question relates to the Market.
Is there a market app for the Defy? If so is there any reason for it not to be there from the start?
I setup a google account, but there isnt a market in the launcher, i have been through searching for the vending.apk which another site had said was the market installer.
Tried downloading a market.apk file but it has a parsing error...
Used astro file manager searching everywhere for anything i thought could work.
What do i need to do?
Any info/suggestions welcome!
Cheers,
Nathan.
thats strange, what rom are u using?
Its a stock rom, literally only got the phone today!
From the about phone details
moto_version.2.54.0.mb525.Retail.en.ME1
firmware version 2.1-Update1
Kernel 2.6.29
I thought it was odd to be honest.
My mates HTC Desire worked out of the box...as many others seem to.
Ok,
I think i found a way round it, after a bit more searching i found a vending.apk that works on this rom.
Heres a link in case anyone has similar probs, there is an Apk file in the zip file in the system/app folder, running that on the defy it had an error on install but closed and restarted and all appears ok!
http://www.mediafire.com/?qacks5flbor595z
Correction, - all appears ok, but after trying to install one or two apps it comes up with an error.
the application market (processcom.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly please try again. (Force close)
this is a bit odd as it browses and does everything as normal untill it begins to download then crashes.
thats the first time i see 2.54 build
I thought 2.51 was the latest official
It seems that hard to know whats going on with it all the motoblur stuff and the customised roms, thats what i hated about the Xperia X2 with sony ericsson not releasing any substantial updates.
Most of the Defy's in Australia are the telstra next g (850mhz/2100mhz) I got a (900mhz/2100mhz) for use on Vodafone, and if i change to optus it will work on that.
I wouldnt mind seeing a Telstra version close up, might try checking them out at the telstra shop and see if they have the market.
Will keep mucking round with it, won't be long and i'll flash a new rom.
now thats strange ... any Android phone that meets google's system requirements, should have a market app "out of the box"...
Tried a few attempted solutions including a market enabler apk but no luck..
Anyone have any clues what i can do??
Very weird! I have never seen any android device without market app out of the box. Have you tried a reset to factory settings? Do you see the Market app in Settings--> Applications--> Application Management? (The translation may vary because I use defy in my native language).
the latest unofficial froyo v3.4.3-3 UK Tmobile Blur also not include market app

If you do find it listed here you may be able to use it with an app like "Better Cut" by creating a shortcut for it. Of course, you have to find a way of getting that app onto your phone, such SD card etc.

Narf, where did you buy the phone? I see complaints from some users about the same issue and when they called the manufacturer (in two cases from a Samsung forum) were told this:
"I spoke with Samsung tech support in the UK and based on my IMEI they determined the phone was grey market imported from the United Arab Emirates where the Market app was not installed. There was nothing they were prepared to do to remedy the problem. I'm returning the phone to eXpansys UK now. "
"Have just finished speaking to Samsung and based on the IMEI and firmware the phone is also from the UAE and they are unwilling/unable to support it. It was purchased from http://www.crescentelectronics.co.uk"
Quotes came from here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android Market/thread?tid=378157a41cd6df08&hl=en
In one post on this forum a UAE user was able to get market on his phone by changing his IMEI number.
Adding Android Market
Hi,
I don't know the specifics of you ROM version but like you, my Defy (on stock Froyo from China) did not have an official Market installed on it.
But I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896312
And I could easilly install the official market without any rooting needed and just by placing the update.zip file on my SD card and do the update by re-booting with Volume DOWN and power ON...
- - -
edit:
- controls are a bit weird on that mode: you have to press the volume up/down to select and the power key to accept.
- clear wipe the cache and the other option (can't remember the exact name of the 2 but it's clear and reset everything) after the update is successful and reboot your phone normally and you should now have the Google goodies [although google map is not the latest version available ...but probably updateable...].
Let me know if it worked! You can hit the "thank" button if it does ;-) [but real credits to the original guy on the link posted above]

Worth a try on yours...

I also got the Kurio for my daughter today and got quite mad when I noticed that Google Apps wasn't there. I guess they havent been approved by google or something. I can't see any other reason why google apps is left out.
I tried the alternative market (1Market) but the first thing I saw when I opened it was a porn app. So I removed it quickly. Then I tried installing Amazon appstore. Worked well but I'm not allowed to buy apps here in Norway. Quite irritating.
Finally i found a way to get apps from Google Play into the Kurio. This requires that you have another rooted android device with gapps:
1. Install Shark App backup & restore on your second android device.
2. Install the apps you need.
3. Back up the apps you want placed on the Kurio with the Shark app
4. Remove SD Card from your phone/tablet/whatever and insert it into the Kurio
5. Enter Android mode on the Kurio, open the File Manager, navigate to /sdcard/AppManagerProMax
6. "click" on the apk's you want to install.
Works like a charm. My daughter will be happy to see minecraft PE on her Kurio in the morning.

Thx for taking the effort to give me a possible solution. Unfortunately I dont access a rooted phone, so there you go
Btw, I`m from Norway to, so I guess we are stuck in the same boat here. I tried amazon myself, but as we discovered ...
As for now, Piratebay is by far the best "shop", most of the files there actually works fine with the Kurio.
Plz dont hesitate to contact me if we could find solutions to this problem.
Actually it might be better to use email ..... we could even speak Norwegian ,
You can reach me at stigolsen(alfakrøll)gmail.com.
I think I will give Kurio a couple of weeks tops, before I put out an Ad at Finn.no. Right now I would much rather own the Nexus 7 to be honest.

Ok.. The hacker in me just woke up. He has been dormant for 15+ years.
I got the file from the Kurio guys at the same time as I got your email. And the script worked.
During the script output I noticed that it said "Removing root" or something. That means that the script roots the device, installes Gapps (including Google Play) and then removes root.
The script is a simple .bat file with a bunch of adb commands. I found in clear text how to root the device. When i get the time I will write up an article on how to root the Kurio.
Then I will start figuring out how to get another Recovery installed on the device. From there on, who knows, maybe I will try getting Jelly Bean compiled for the device.
I might also try to retrieve the Kurio interface and see if I can get it to work on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.
I will put the file up for download as soon as I find a hosting service I don't have to pay for. Any recommendations? Sadly it's too big to upload as an attachment here.

Great u got it working ! Suddenly the Kurio is kinda worth keeping right ?
An article about rooting the device would be great, and Jelly Bean would be so cool.
As for uploading the file I have used filefactory(dot)com before, take a look there ..
I suggest we keep future progress in this thread, I do belive a lot of people will find this useful as we make more progress in weeks to come.

I have applied for a developer account on goo.im. If I get approved that will be where the files are put.
And the tablet is definetely worth keeping now. A couple of apps doesn't work, but with root we can probably fix that.

I take no responsibility for this file. Just redistributing it.

.rar is an archived file. Winrar will extract it for you. Then read the Readme.txt file inside.
took me a minute to get it done, the update driver button wasnt ever pressable and then after i got that done it kept saying something about the path not found, after keeping on clicking different stuff i got it all done. let me know if anyone has figured out a permenant root for this, id like to see some jelly bean on it, it kind of drags a**
Hello
They are having a sale, where i live today and tomorrow. I can get it with 25% off. My kids prefer tablets instead of there Nintendo's. Is it really worth the purchase? Do you know if it can run subway surfers? And last some sites says it has a dual core processor others says single core. Another is doubt about the ram being 1 gb or 512 mb.
Thanks
Hello
I bought two for my 5 year okd kids. The Kurio is going to replace there Nintendo's. I installed the market, using your uploaded files, thank's. It seems like that it only removes the superuser program. And that it leaves the device permanently rooted. I can use both root explore and titanium backup. Most games I installed, runs ok including subway surfer.
Hey guys, can one of you with a rooted tab, maybe release a full backup? I am wanting to try maybe port the launcher over to work on any tablet?..
thanks
Karl
could you please post a download link for that google play file again.... the one you have post now times out
