Hi Guys,
I wanted share my experience here so I might save money and frustration to whom might thinking of upgrading their Hermeses.
My Hermes broke down and I thought it was time to upgrade. I read a lot about Touch Pro and Pro 2, watched the review videos. I debated between cute and small pro and giant screen and tilting pro 2. Finally, money dictated to go with touch pro.
Long story short, as you might know, Raphael has more than one version. I know two of them. One is Touch Pro for Asia and Europe. The other is Fuze (branded AT&T).
EuroAsia version is sold much cheaper but it is not North American 3G compatible. It is 3G phone but not in NA. You can only get EDGE connection.
I don't know about other versions and details. Best thing to do is to call HTC and give them the IMEI number of the phone to verify the compatibility of the phone with North American 3G.
I hope this helps.
Same with Hermes too though. In Australia we use a different bandwidth for 3G.
Hasn't this always been the way with EU/US UMTS bands? 1900 & 2100MHz for the UK, Europe and Australia, and the US has 850 + 1900, and 1700 + 2100 (AT&T and T-Mobile respectively)... 850MHz just for the States because the suggested freqs were all already in use in North America at the time before Clinton signed in his Presidential Memorandum.
While I'm at it, the UK UMTS allocations and licenses are as follows...
1900.3 - 1905.2 MHz (4.9 MHz bandwidth) - Unmatched spectrum - licence D - T-Mobile
1905.2 - 1910.1 MHz (4.9 MHz bandwidth) - Unmatched spectrum - licence E - Orange
1910.1 - 1915.0 MHz (4.9 MHz bandwidth) - Unmatched spectrum - licence C - O2
1915.0 - 1919.9 MHz (4.9 MHz bandwidth) - Unmatched spectrum - licence A - '3'

(from http://www.prattfamily.demon.co.uk/mikep/frequency.htm)
1900MHz
"1900 & 2100MHz for the UK, Europe and Australia"
"US has 850 + 1900"
So shouldn't an European 3G phone be able to use the AT&T 1900MHz frequency?
IMO,
i'd go for touchpro.. for its price and functionability.
touchpro and tp2 doesnt have much big diff. except for its design and sliders. and the upgrade of the processor.
and its seems like tp2 if heavier than tp and hermes too.. according to da specs. haha..
for the sake of price. and functions. i'd just opt for tp.. lolz

Anyone know if they will be releasing an unlocked version for the US carriers? I would get the European version myself, as 3g isn't a big deal for me, but what gives me concern is the Wall charger doesn't include a US plug. Im sure this is a small deal considering i could proly just buy a standard HTC charger, but im just curious if they will be having an unlocked that will both include the US charger, and work on US 3g networks.
no word yet hua?
Why do you think the European model won't work on U.S. 3G networks?
European 3G I believe works on the 1900 MHz band (supported by the Touch Pro 2). U.S. 3G operates on the 850 MHz band (also supported by the Touch Pro 2). By technical standards, this should work fine in the U.S. on the 3G band.
As far as the charger goes, yes, that is a concern. But I don't doubt that somewhere in your house you've got a miniUSB charger lying around. If not, your local Wal-Mart/Target/Radio-Shack/Best Buy will have a million of them.

HTC.com sez...
Network:
HSPA/WCDMA:
Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
Up to 2 Mbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
(Band frequency, HSPA availability, and data speed are operator dependent.) BUT...
3G networks are running the 850Mhz in the U.S. We already knew that the HTC Touch Pro2 would sport 3G frequency support in the 900Mhz and 2100Mhz WCDMA bands, but the 850Mhz WCDMA band isn't yet available.

I have been on a number of blogs for the TP2 and they are seem to be in agreement that the European TP2 will only work over the EDGE network in US...
Personally, I am currently an iPhone user, but my wife is driving me crazy waiting for this US version!

Here is a good story on MSNBC.com on the various 3G standards. It is dated last Sept. but it is still good.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26511322/
uk/europe model will only work on edge in US. devicewire have done a detailed review on a europe model and could only get edge. to get 3g will need to wait for official model for that region.

Actually you have it awry. European 3G runs on 2100mhz not 1900. U.S 3G runs on 850/1900mhz.
If you go to HTC's site, the TP2 Euro model will do GSM/GPRS/EDGE on 1900mhz. SO if O.P imports a Euro version, he could use it on EDGE or he could just wait for the AT&T version. T-mobile USA's 3G runs on 1700mhz though.
T-mobile USA's 3G requires both 1700mhz and 2100mhz. Suppose to be hear around July 22nd...

Standard mini usb cables, yes and i also am aware i can also just charge the thing using the included USB cable. What im asking about is the WALL charger. If HTC uses thier standard USB-mini cable that is on a good chunk of their devices, including the HD/ Tilt/Diamond ect.. im sure finding a US charger wont be that hard.
Also, i was asking about an Unlocked US version, i do not intend to get one though the carrier as i dont want a modified version that they lock down. Nor do i care to wait till the fall when AT&T gets off their duffs to finally release it.
In any event, im just keeping my ear open and seeing what the grapevine heard about it.
Sorry guys. My bad.
I was confusing the specifications thinking that HTC would at least be smart enough to include full support for all markets. I was reading the Quad-Band GSM as support for HSPA/3G bands. I was totally bypassing the HSPA/WCDMA dual-band specification.
Chalk it up to a mix of wishful thinking and childish excitement. That does, however, kick the crap out of my week. Only HTC can bring me down this hard.
Well, I guess ATT got approved for theirs. Now the only question remains is, will their be an unlocked US version that supports 3g? or will we have to get the European version?
I'm in Taiwan for Computex and am so tempted to buy a touch pro 2 here. I would wait for the AT&T version but after seeing they changed the keyboard I want the HTC model. Only reason I haven't picked one up yet is because it only gets edge in the US on AT&T.
Does anyone know if the hardware cannot physically work on at&t's 3g bands or do we just have to wait for the at&t version to come out so the radio can be copied over or something. Thanks!

The hardware physically cannot handle it. The Euro/Asian model only supports 3G on the European and Asian bands which are completely different frequencies from the ones used in the U.S. It's definitely not just a matter of software.
And I think we all need to be clear that no one has any idea what the AT&T keyboard will actually look like. The promotional material we have all seen and discussed ad nauseum is a slap-together of the HTC mockup with AT&T's promotional verbage. Even the promotional bullet points list that the "HTC Fortress" has a 5 row keyboard while the mockup picture shows a 4 row keyboard. That picture, at this point, means pretty much nothing at all.
I see, Ill hold off then. Its kinda hard to justify ~$800 on a phone here anyways that doesn't have a warranty in the states. Thanks for the help!
Will the US Unlocked Version have the secondary VGA camera for video conferencing like the European one does?
What is the advantage of getting a carrier specific phone (AT&T or T-Mobile) as opposed to a US Unlocked phone outside of price?
I'm currently with Sprint and want to switch to a GSM provider.

no, the us carriers don't support that feature => no front facing camera.

the carrier phones usually come with some sort of branding (software: e.g. sprint tv application / hardware: different battery cover, different keyboard layout and so on)
This can either be an advantage or a disadvantage...

So basically what I was hoping for in terms of a 3G phone with a front facing camera won't happen this round.
I am a Kaiser (ATT Tilt / TyTn II) user who would like to upgrade to the Touch Pro II (Rhodium).
I know that the T-mobile version of this phone supports the 1700 & 2100 frequencies; while the European version of the phone supports the 900 & 2100 frequencies.
My Kaiser supports the 850/1900 AND 2100 Mhz frequencies, which means that I can travel all over the world and always find a 3G provider for my phone.
Does anybody know if there is a version of the Touch Pro II (Rhodium) that supports the same three 3G frequencies as my Kaiser; namely the 850/1900 MHz AND 2100MHz frequencies?
IMPORTANT: Please note that I am talking about the 3G (HSPA / WCDMA ) frequencies. I already know that the Rhodium is Quad band for on GSM/GPRS/EDGE; but for me to switch to this phone I MUST have triple band in the 3G bands; just like I have with the ATT Tilt right now.
Looking forward to your answers.
My guess would be the Tilt 2 (AT&T's version of the TP2) could have the bands like that. But I don't for sure...

Does ATT have the Tilt 2? For months I saw posts on the internet saying that it would come to ATT, but as far as I can tell (from ATT website) it was never made available.
We're still waiting for it
Some current rumors put it in October for the WinMo 6.5 launch.
Perhaps this one?

TP2 - T-mobile US version does support the following bands - no 1700
I believe the T-mobile US version does:
Here is what I see in the phone "band menu" - No 1700 support..(I believe TMo US did not win this US frequency..)
GSM(900&1800) + UMTS(900&2100)
or
GSM(1900&850) + UMTS (1900&850)
or
UMTS(2100&800)
I can switch from "Auto" to GSM or WCMA..
Hope this helps you.
The T-Mo TP2 doesn't work on AT&T's 3G unfortunately.

No there is not currently a phone in the market that will enable you to use AT&T 3G.
Wait until AT&T releases their own version of the Touch Pro 2. (they will)
Or, if you don't care about 3G (you should care) then the European Version, T-Mobile version, Sprint version and Verizon versions will all work on AT&T's EDGE network.

Thanks for your reply and the reply of all others. So my own research confirms that there is no product out there yet that will support the same three bands as the HTC Kaiser (Tilt).
I am not in a rush at all. I was a Blackberry user for many years (had 3 blackberries) and I got fed up with Research in Motion because of their lack of operating system openness. That's when I switched to Windows Mobile...through a brand new ATT Tilt (Kaiser) which I purchased only a few months ago.
Its just that I am SO happy with my choice that I am thinking ahead to my next upgrade, since a bigger nad higher resolution screen, combined with faster processor, and more RAM would be ideal. But I am not planning to switch to the Rhodium anytime soon.
I will first wait for ATT to launch it at full price, then for people to start selling new units on Ebay, for competition to get intense, and prices to come down..and for xda-developers to really get active on that unit; then I will switch. So I am thinking that for all those things to happen I will wait about 6 to 12 months after launch date of the ATT model (which is the one I would need to get in order to gain the trully global flexibility) to switch over to that unit.
Thanks again for your responses.

Well the reason I stated that T-Mobile was using the 1700/2100 3G frequencies is because those are the one that they mention in the catalog of the SP2 that they make available through their website!
There is plenty of articles on the net which say that T-Mobile chose a frequency which is not used by any other carrier in the world, and they refer to the 1700 frequency. Here are just a few:
http://gigaom.com/2008/09/23/4-things-you-need-to-know-about-t-mobile-3g/
"The T-Mobile 3G network may look like those in use by other global carriers, but it’s not. T-Mobile uses a radio frequency band (1700 MHz) for 3G connections that is unique in the world. The carrier claims it allows faster data speeds but the reality is it means that only phones specifically designed for the T-Mobile network will work at full speed"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Mobile
In September of 2008 T-Mobile began rolling out it's 3G network (operating on the 1700 MHz band)
The official T-Mobile website says:
https://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm23715.xml;jsessionid=xhk4zMCQaMfhQJxqos?
What frequency does your 3G network support?
Our 3G network supports both the 1700MHz and 2100MHz frequencies.
Since the T-Mobile website says they support both 1700 and 2100, I wonder if a phone that supports the "850/1900 MHz AND 2100MHz" combination (such as the Tilt, and perhaps the Tilt 2) works with T-Mobile's 3G network?

Yes, price is definitely going down and quickly. Don't be fooled into buying at such high prices. If you take a look at the T-Mobile model it is being sold on Ebay brand new, unopened for US $449; and that is only a few weeks after the product was released. I expect the same behavior with the ATT model, or even lower prices if it doesn't include a front camera...and has less memory (as some have speculated) than the other models.
I am going to wait 6 to 12 months to get mine, and I expect to be able to obtain a brand new one, without a contract for aproximately $300 within that time frame.
Yeah.. I know
I expect to buy it lower in less time
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009...g-htc-tilt-2-starting-october-8th/#more-36058
If you take a look at the first picture UMTS frequency is stated as 850/1900/2100MHz for the tilt2 So all it's missing is 800 for some part of japan or asia i think. And maybe 900 for some part of Australia? Though I've never heard of a 5 or 6 band phone before.
I guess this means its US(att), euro, asia 3g compatible.
Anyone got thoughts or clarifications?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM_frequency_bands
If I am thinking correctly, it should cover almost all world bands. I think the 700 mhz range is outdated or in very limited areas.
Hi guys,
I've been reading up on Rogers 3G support and i understand that rogers uses 850MHz for their HSDPA am i correct in this assumption?
On that note would the Australian Touch Pro 2 T7381 work with Rogers 3G since it utilizes 850Mhz band for HSPA?
This is the network specs of the phone
Network
HSPA/WCDMA:
Australia & USA: 850/2100 MHz (Fully support Telstra Next G Networks)
Up to 2 Mbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz (Band frequency, HSPA availability, and data speed are operator dependent.)
Keeping in mind that this phone doesnt support Rogers HSUPA on 1900MHz which i am lead to believe is Rogers 3G uplink frequency
Mine works on AT&T
My 7381 from Telstra in Oz works a-ok on AT&T 3-G. I think all of North America has the same network specs...
Hi there,
I just bought that phone from Australia and I am 99% sure the 3G will work with Rogers/Fido.
@ craiglevett
Ohh awesome... i'll await to see how yours works out
how much did you pay for for yours? the cheapest i've seen it for is $687 CAD
I think it will work according to wikipedia, rogers uses 850 MHz.
UMTS/HSPA on the 850 MHz band (Also known as 3G GSM)
let me know if it works, I'm planning to buy it as well..

Dear xda Members and / or galaxy note 2 Users,
I'm a bit confused about the various versions of the Note 2.
In a few days I'll visit Florida and intend to buy the LTE version from Walmart.

(I don't know if shoplinks are allowed, but you can't buy it directly here and i hope you can accept it anyway this time)
However, I need to know whether the phone works in Europe/Germany and with which communication standards.
Is there a difference between the US and European GT-N7105?
on ht.tp://e n.wikipedia. org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Note_II i found various versions called
AWS phone
CDMA/EV-DO phone
TD-SCDMA phone
Dual-cell HSPA phone.
and the LTE where they tell that it would be kind of an "International" phone.
"Most of the variants support GSM/GPRS/EDGE in the 850 Mhz, 900 Mhz, 1.9 Ghz, and 2.1 Ghz bands; and UMTS/HSPA+21 in 850 Mhz, 900 Mhz, 1.9 Ghz, and 2.1 Ghz"
Does the version i found on the walmart page support UMTS? there are only specifications that it can handle GSM and LTE, but not which LTE Bands.
(I think I need support for 800 MHz, 1800 MHz and/or 2600 MHz in Western Europe)
correct me if i'm wrong with any statement and enlighten the confusion for me if pssible
Thanks in advance !
