Is the TP2 a worthwhile upgrade from Omnia?

Hi,
I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I currently have a 16GB Omnia which to be honest I have been quite happy with. It's only my second Windows Mobile Phone and I upgraded from the the Original HTC Touch. When I got the Omnia I was more than happy with both the quality of the music playback (through headphones) and the DIVX/XVID support as I consider them to be second to none, really great quality. I always hated the hiss of the orignal Touch when playing MP3's and the Omnia is pretty close to a standalone MP3 player.
There were however a few things that pissed me off over the Omnia. One was the odd screen resolution which made certain programs either not run at all or display in a distorted fashion. Then there was lack of a stylus (unless you attached it on the side) which I really missed as I think it is still needed in various programs. The screen res was not great or responsive either. Biggest thing I missed was a D-Pad needed to play so many games etc..
Now I had set my hopes on actually jumping ship and getting an Iphone. I'd spent hours looking on Youtube at the apps and thought some of them were fantastic. I liked the idea that all apps should work on the phone without all the tweaking that is often needed on Windows Mobile. However when I saw the price announced yesterday as much as I want it, it is incredibly expensive and now out of my league.
Now I'm thinking of the Touch Pro 2. It seems to have great reviews so far. I will mainly be using it for Media (MP3's and playing Xvid TV/DVD Rips) and surfing the internet. Also I need Isilo ebook reader and Comic Reader Mobi to work out of the box. Do you think the Touch Pro 2 is a big enough jump from the Omnia in terms of compatibility and performance or will it still have lots of incompatibility problems. Are you missing lack of a D-pad? One thing I wanted to ask is can you play many games that previously needed a D-pad by using the pull out keyboard and re-assigining keys - is that a workaround?
Any advice would be really appreciated.
I was Onmia i900 16GB Unlocked user before. In my opinion, if you don't need a slideout keyboard and a bigger screen like me. Your Omnia is no different than TP2. Your omnia can do everything TP2 can do :> except, those i mentioned earlier and of course if you have extra bucks to spend :>
I will be still happy with my omnia if it has the slideout keyboard and a bigger screen. Otherwise I won't get the TP2 :>
Too bad, I checked out the future omnia successor I9000 or HD still dont have slideout keyboard. that is why i switch to TP2.
like it was said previously very different form factor. tp2 is a true all rounder and you wont have any problems watching xvid/avi videos as you can install tcpmp or coreplayer(corecodec). you will not experience any incompatibility issues as the tp2 is complete and versatile. also the future of rom dev on this device will be exciting and wm6.5 and hopefully wm7 will offer so much more. comparing an omnia to tp2 isn't really the best thing to do mate just need to ask yourself what do you want from your phone! if you want a keypad and bigger more vibrant screen then tp2 is your boy but if you prefer the form factor of the omnia then consider a td2. the list of software available for windows mobile is impressive and they will all be compatible with tp2. basically you need to have a play with the tp2 and decide from there. not much we can say to influence what you decide as i may think tp2 is better and others may disagree. this may actually cause you more confusion than help.

Radiowc, I know the Omnia is already a capable phone. But is the Touch pro not faster and more responsive?

I've enjoyed reading through yor posts. When you mentioned the other day you were walking through Liverpool with the device I was going to track you down to have a look as I work in town. I hear what you are saying about the form factor and to be honest I do like the Omnia/Touch Diamond styling but with my big hands I may benefit from a hardware keyboard. What also attracts me to a hardware keyboard is the fact that virtually all Windows mobile phones are coming out with either no Dpad or a crappy one like on my Omnia. As I asked earlier is it possible for the keyboard to compensate for the lack of D-Pad/hard keys to play games/emulators etc... I have Coreplayer/TCPMP on the Omnia and it's great but had heard of the HD having problems with TCPMP so I thought this may be the same with Touch Pro 2. Also heard horror stories on Touch HD forum of choppy playback etc playing back videos. Now I won't be playing anything back other than 700 or 350mb avi files (mainly xvid) that are DVD or TV Rips I download, nothing high definition. Do you think I'll have a problem?

Well... I will say yes... but not so obvious... like super fast :> of course with the extra internal memory ... now you don't have to worry about it will ran out of memory so fast like i used to be.. looking all over samsung omnia forum on how to move the internal program to My Storage folder like other omnia's user do :>
Good Luck :>

corecodec coreplayer though similar to tcpmp player is far better. playback is amazing and i managed to get hold of an already reg version for free on here. crecodec version has a facelift and youtube player integrated withing it. works very well with tp2. haven't used the tcpmp player on it. don't really think kepad can compensate for d-pad but to be honest i dont think you will miss it. other guys who felt the same as you have prev posted that they do not miss the d-pad at all. video playback on tp2 is even better than my x1 using coreplayer. clearer smoother playback. seriously you will not be disappointed
edit: with our big hands you will defo find the tp2 to your liking.............my reason for getting rid of my omnia was that the touch input was not the best, scrolling was very bad and that screen rotation was too moody. i did however cunstomise it with tf2d at the time and liked it a bit more. tp2 is a defo an upgrade in performance and usability from omnia.
I switched from an Omnia which I've used for 7 months I think, and I've never been more happy with my TP2...
If it were a question between the Omnia HD and TP2... then it might be a hard choice. Even though i liked the first Omnia... The TP2 is a very different device.

Go for the brilliant TP2 along with the great XDA support!
I have to admit after switching from the Touch to the Omnia I've missed the support from this site. Modaco was the only place I could check out for rom development so it would feel nice to have a HTC back in my hand.
From what I have heard the Video playback seems to be ok for what I'm looking for. Does anyone have an opinion on the quality of the music playback through wired headphones. As I mentioned the original touch had an annoying hiss during playback that was very noticible during quiet or acoustic pieces of music. At the time I did a little research and lots of people told me the problem was due to a cheap sound chip used in HTC devices at the time including the Elf and the Kasier. When I moved to the Omnia the sound was so much better, Ipod quality, in fact someone told me that Samsung made the sound chips for Apple.
How does the Touch Pro 2 compare, any issues. Or a direct comparison to the Omnia. The Omnia playback is excellent regardless of the software (Kinoma/Pocket Player/Coreplayer).
Thanks for your advice guys. I've taken the plunge. Just ordered TP2 from MobilesPhoneDirect on T-Mobile Combi 30+ Web & Walk 18months at £34 a month. Great deal!! Just hope it comes tomorrow as they told me they are waiting for a courier to deliver new stock this afternoon.
I'm really excited and it will be great to back here on XDA with you guys!!
I don't know what I'm gonna do... After giving my TP to my daughter, I got an I900 Omnia for myself for use on ATT. Don't miss the 3G, but I did miss the keyboard at times, especially since to most observers the omnia was "just a phone". Now, the TP, and most importantly the Tilt, was a "mini-computer" (Impressive!!). So the tilting screen on the TP2 is enticing. But the TP2 not having a scroll-wheel, or even a d-pad, or something like that, is holding me off, cuz I did miss that on the Omnia, even though I lived w/o it.
I'm afraid the buttons are disappearing, never to return...

Has the Kaiser video driver / acceleration issue been solved in Rhodium?

Hi,
I am a Kaiser user, and as you know HTC launched that product with incomplete drivers. Video acceleration drivers were included, and video playback is worse than on most phones; even the ones that are MUCH cheaper.
So one of the BIG questions that most Kaiser / ATT Tilt / TyTN II users will have when considering an upgrade is whether the drivers on the HTC Rhodium are complete, whether video acceleration works perfectly, etc.
Can those of you familiar with the driver problems on the Kaiser, and who own a Rhodium reply to this thread telling us what is the driver situation with this model?
soon to be former titan user subscribing
so far things are ALOT better .. but they still act up on things like fpsece it is still that terrible qualcomm cpu just a slightly newer one.. im hoping that since this is one is new there is still alot to come for it especially with windows marketplace around the corner i would blame windows mobile but i played with an omnia today and the lack of bugginess blew me away but its no where near as pretty as my tp2
bump.
Anyone got tips on whether or not to get one of the touch pro 2's? god I dont want an iPhone but media is the biggest thing I'm looking for in my next phone.
tbh you dont want an iphone then. its low res and not capable of many vdeo formats, videos must be "synced" and are easily deleted by apple software. the rhodium also has a nice tilt screen great for watching videos.
I really like the tilting screen my current phone is the TyTn II and my only complaint is the video performance. A jail broken iphone plays all media types via VLC media player so thats an easy fix. But I'd really rather have the Tilt 2 I just need it to not be the gimp multimedia device that the Tilt is.

IMHO (yeah that dangerous acronym), I've noticed that the TyTnII/Kaiser and the Rhodium are more for business users not recreational users. My partner has an iPhone and I've played with it a couple times. When it came to upgrade my Kaiser, I considered the iPhone as a possible upgrade, but chose the Rhodium/Tilt2.
Why? iPhones do real lousy with Microsoft Office apps, no hard keyboard (I'm fat fingered enough thanks), and a dependence on iTunes that I find frustrating. I've also found several apps that will allow me to convert between iTunes format and standard MP3/wma. Besides, as far as I know there are no cool roms that take advantage of the power of the iPhone.
I think this phone would be superior to the iPhone in every way if these stupid bugs didn't exist. How many just exist for texting? From random message lag to the damn thing freezing for several minutes when you back out of a text. The message box can be all screwed up, too. And all of this happens way to frequently.
core player works fine for me. i watch all types of video. the tilty screen is good for it.
so it seems that from what yall are saying; if I'm not in it for office documents and all i want is to watch my cartoons and make phone calls/texting (I have skinny fingers ) the iphone still beats out the tilt 2.
HTC makes such a sweet looking device, but man they really need to get away from qualcom, and poor video acceleration.
there a video acceleration drivers out. I attached a version i use below.

I've been playing with my buddies tilt 2 today he just got it on saturday, the video is LEAPS & BOUNDS better than my tilt, but its still not as smooth as the video on a 3gs.

except when you play something like divx on an iphone. then the video playback sucks so bad that the movie doesnt even play.
divx lol. avi ftw sir.
My TP2 playes mp4 (H.264) very nicely, full screen.

I'd not say the iPhone beats out the Rhodium/Tilt 2, but I will say that the Rhodium/Tilt properly tweaked and free of AT&T bloatware is a media match for iPhone. But then again, I'm a business user who watches a lot of video on my Tilt 2...hehehe...and one has to admit, a slideout hard keyboard and tilting display is a good feature for those of us who don't have thin fingers...<chuckle>

Anyone wanting to trade a touch pro2 for dualcore laptop??

[Q] T7377 better it is for HD video from T7373?

Hello
Can some one give me advice and tell me whether the HTC Touch Pro 2 T7377 with integrated video accelerator Adreno130 is faster and better than the T7373 without integrated video accelerator such??
Question whether the version with Adreno 130 video accelerator, play faster and better HD video, the version with no integrated video accelerator? I wonder which one to buy the phone because I offer them, but with these video cards will be uncomfortable with a qwerty keyboard version.
This video accelerator in the version of the Touch Pro 2 T7377, I did play a role in watching any videos, or used for games??
Thanks for your attention
All good

yep! you're right, to find out more clearly I would suggest you visit it to https://developer.qualcomm.com/device/htc-touch-pro-2
The adreno130 helps, but you must realize it's very old. It is not capable of OpenGLES2.0. So newer/heavier games are not going to work well/at all!!
hail
Yes, I am aware that the phone model is old and can not ask miracles from it I just offer the opportunity to purchase this new phone and was wondering which of the two options to choose.
I'll take the T7373 has a very good hardware keyboard And it will install a HD youtube ROM-s which are discussed here in the forum.
Thanks for your attention )
