Hello, I'm new here, and I have been attempting to make two custom ROMs for the HP iPAQ 21x series, and I ran into a huge problem. I have two dump folders, and I can't figure out how to turn either of them into an NBH(or NBF) file. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Edit:Oh, and also, in case anyone was wondering, I'm trying to make them a Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM and a Windiows Mobile 6.5 ROM, and they are both(as far as I know) clean, except for the HP stuff.
nbh or nbf... ? for what ? it is inpossible to flash it back, you need bldiag.nb0 and hpimage.bin (foxconn format) but fortunatly pdocwrite works fine, so you need to: dump or download dump of imgfs (part02, os) unpack it via imgfstodump, cook to wm 6,1 or 6.5, then convert back to imgfs via imgfsfrom dump, and write via pdocwrite, xip can be also writed by this way, xip is part01, it works but i'm not a rom cooker so I cant cook it myself...
edit: it is also possible to edit marvell obm's and bootloader, but only via linux
edit2: here is my post about ipaq 214 and pdocwrite http://forum.brighthand.com/showpost.php?p=1762892&postcount=4
edit3: it will also works on any 21x and 11x and as I think on other hp devices manufactured by foxconn
I'm sorry elektrownik, but I don't really get what you're saying, I'm not very experienced with this ROM stuff, this is the first time I've ever tried to make one. But in response to what you're asking(I think), I was going to make them NBH files, make a backup ROM image of the device, and then use the HP RUU, which I have made to look for a file called 'RUU_signed.nbh'(what I will name them), to update the device via Activesync connection.
Update:OK, I've managed to get a little further, and now I have two BIN files, and two NB.PAYLOAD files, and I'm pretty close to turning them into NB Files.
But how do you want to sign it for hpruu it need hp cert and key, or did you cracked it. Anyway here is default rom. http://rapidshare.com/files/2236847...n_marked_internally_with_custom_extra_data.7z
Oh, well I didn't know it had to be signed, but in the ROM files which I was basing mine off of(which I thought you made) was an HP digital signature file(.cer) that said it went an HP 21x Image Update, I clicked on it, Windows said it installed the certificate, and then the file dissapeared. I'm not sure if that will help use the HP RUU or not, but I found it kind of odd. Also, if you'd like to take a look at it I can put it up for download somewhere(there was another one).

What parameters did you use for Tadzio's imgfs tools on NBSplit?
Fdo35 do you know how to flash ipaq 21x?
Maybe you can work together with some people already trying to make wm6.5 rom....
Kind regards,
W.

What's "parameters", I don't know what you mean. Also I don't remember using NBSplit, I started out with a IMG file which I then dumped.
Edit:Oh wait, I see what you mean. I didn't use NBSplit, I was following the attached directions to reconstruct ROM, except it wasn't for the device the file specified, and instead of 'imgfs.bin', I used a file called 'ipaq214.img', and instead of 'Windows.nb' I used a file called 'flash.nb'. And, I'm pretty sure that elektrownik made both files.
lol why you all dont read what i wrote, i have rom, which was reconstructed from dump, but it impossible to flash it from sd like on htc by flash.bin, ipaq 214 need bldiag.nb0 and hpimage.bin to be flashed from sd, but those files never was released so it is impossible to study format in which they coming, 214 can be also flashed from pc, but it need foxconn application and like before hpimage.bin, and there is official metchod - hpruu, but files which it use need to be signed first, we dont have cert and key to sign them, it wold be possible to patch hpruu to delate sign validation but i dont see anyone who working on this, as i wrote only one working metchod is pdocwrite application, i check it and it works, but i'm not room cooker so i cant cook wm 6.1 or 6.5 imgfs...
I think there are quite few topics about it.
It would be maybe better to have EVERYTHING relevant in one so everyone who posesses knowledge can help.
Now it looks that we (you) are inventing hot water... no offence - i appreciate all the hard work you put into this. But we (you) need better cooperation and clean topic.
I am grateful to everyone who share and try to make something. Respect to you all!
Kind regards,
WODP
The HP iPAQ 110 has a ROM update on HP's website, is it possible to get any of those files from that?

Microsoft have released Windows Media Player 10 Mobile but only to manufacturers. It is not, and will not be, available as an update or download unless your manufacturer provides an update or updated ROM.
I pulled a ROM update down from one of the OEMs whove done an update and could extract the files for WMP10M, but I'm not sufficiently up with the whole ROM cooking thing to incorporate them into a new ROM for my Blue Angel.
Anyone fancy giving this a go ?
Can you Zip the files and Upload here?
yeah, let the expert assist you.
I am very keen to have WMP 10 too.
just upload the ms.nbf file of that ROM and the rest is up to us.
This is a link to the ROM update for the Dell Axim x30 that contains WMP10 :
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...eviceid=6672&devlib=7&releaseid=R87096&p=HTTP
I downloaded this and used a tool (which I now cant find - doh!) to extract it.
What else would you guys need ?
Do you need a copy of my current ROM ?
If so, how do I make a copy of it ?
Sorry, that last post was me...forgot to login.
i have downloaded the file.
After extracting, i found 2 *.IMG
therefore, i try to use UltraISO or MagicISO just to extract *.IMG but it fails.
Some other experts may need to participate
I presume DumpRom will not help us.. Mamaich?
What kind of Pocket Pc have you upgraded? Dell ??
OK.
I got an iPAQ rom update from HP here : http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/handhelds/us/download/22279.html
I ran it so it copied the filees onto my PC hard drive.
I then ran dumprom.exe against the d2b10110uo.nbf file and got all the files from the ROM.
I have them all in a zip file as I am not sure exactly which ones are required for WMP10M. I have zipped up and attached all the ones that look as though they are WMP10M related.
i suppose all the files has to be zip into *.CAB
and copy over to PDA and unzip it
is this all the files that belongs to WMP?
i think let the expert do some testing

Sorry, tried to upload but it keeps failing.
Anyone tried copying the files in wm.zip to their xda2 and trying to run wmplayer.exe ?
wanna try but at work with no cradle
Locked up after a few seconds of the "wait" icon on my PDA2K running 1.31 WWE and 1.06.02 Radio.
First you are missing many WmFiles, there are many that are not begin to Wmxxxx, but unfortunately I can't remeber others.
And I think DumpRom is missing relocation on Dll files, like discussed time ago
I thought someone had mentioned that WMP10 software is "somehow" tied into the hardware or the OS specific to the devices so it wouldnt be possible to extract the executable application and make a cab or whatever and run it on any other devices that it didnt ship with...
I'm no guru with ROMs and stuff.. but if any one of you guys manages to make this work, it will be awesome!
Good luck!
i heard someone had the cab or a way to install wmp10 ... anyone here knows how?
Hi all,
I am trying to port the mediaplus from AtomLife ROMs which has the second version of mediaplus with icons in circle.
I was successfull in extracting the imgfs.bin but there is onemore file ExROM.img which is not giving up.
I Tried
1. winimage
2. extended drive creator
3. scooter kitchen tools
but i am not able to look into the contents, it has the required _QHiddenPartition directory which has all the theme and image files for FMRadio/Mediaplus and Equaliser.
can anybody help me .
regards
Shreedhara
Mediaplus is very tricky..the images are in Ext ROM..but the links to executables are somewhere from the XIP section..any way keep working
Well
I don't think u understand my problem.
I was able to run the Mediaplus(v1.0) app on my Eten M700 earlier when I had WM5 on my eten.
But after I changed it to WM6, I want something new and hence I am trying to get the Atom Life Mediaplus (v2.0), which is better looking than the earlier one.
But SInce the latest ROM's from O2 have differenct format
It contains
lot of asm.mbss files (Motherboard assembly ) and FLASH.DIO and ExROM.img
with XLDR.nb and EBoot.nb0 files also.
But that Extended rom is hardnut to crack, it does not open at all for any tools we have here.
That'swhy I asked for help, so that I can extract it.
Before I plan a release, I have a kitchen that, with Football's permission, I am working on. I was just wondering how many people would even download and use this?? I'm just not sure how many people would even be interested in this. As of right now, I believe it is using his WM6 A03 as the base. As of right now, it works perfect. Just gotta add a few more features. I have flashed my Axim like 15 times so far in the last two day's testing.
Just wondering how many people are even interested....
This kitchen is using the same version BuildOS that PPCGeek's released for the Apache (6700) on 11/05/07.
Not sure on the release date. If there doesn't seem to be anybody that even want's it, then there will probably not be a public release...
Let me know what ya think!

Thanks for your effort.
As far as now, I use vivi4700.exe for X51V A03 RTM.
Waiting for your version.
The PPCGeeks-BuildOS that I'm using does it all. It does pagepool automatically.
You load it, choose your OEM's that you want, and hit the play button, and then when it's done, the NB0, and CRC file is in a new folder on your desktop. All you would have to do then, is format your SD to FAT32, and copy the files to your SD, put it in your X51v, and load the SD loader, and then flash. That's it.
I'd use it. I've been waiting for a kitchen for my x51v.
Ok, kewl.... now just need 4998 more people that want it...
Just joking...
lol...
keep em coming..
EDIT: Also, if there is anything anybody would love to see in this kitchen, let me know. I'm thinking of even including some OEM's that I, and soon, other's have tested to be released as a seperate download. So if there is any OEMs you may want me to include in this, let me know so I can test...
I have my own to build a french rom, but if your's is easier to use, I'll use it.
I plan to include x50 mix and aximwireless power, but I guess you should ask for permission the creators of these apps.
I would love a kitchen. I know many people that would love to tinker with it. Thank You for your efforts!

Yeah, there is a special directory where the ROM, SYS, and OEM directory's go. All of your user/custom/optional OEMs go in a different folder. So, for your french base rom, you could probably just add those three folder's with only the core stuff to that directory, and move all of your optional oems to the USER_OEM directory, and it will probably work good for you. The only thing is, the Axim has a very small partition where the flash is saved on the device. I had to make seperate OEM's out of the few apps that I do not use that actually came on the device Stock like Odyssey, the switcher bar, the HTC home app, office, windows update, cutomer care, modem link, internet connection sharing, and a few more so that i could have more room for the apps i actually do use..
The OS partition on the Axim is only 33.75 megs... I'm used to my Apache which has 55 - 60 megs. But it werks. Trying to add some more stuff, and make a few more oems b4 release... And o/c, gotta let Football do some major testing to see if it's "up to snuff". Would love to integrate his future A05 into this b4 release..
Gimmie!
I've been wondering about embedding my security app into the ROM so if some *insert nasty word* nicks it and figures out how to do a hard-reset then they're stuffed unless they're smart enough to figure out how to flash from the SD card... in which case they know what they're doing and quite frankly good luck to them
So dude... gimme! hehe - seruiously a realase would be wicked...

Well, unless I can find an app to convert the NB0 to the IMG file that the Dell Updater uses' to flash the rom over activesync, this kitchen only works using the SD card flash method.
So any idea's on the NB0 to IMG conversion?

I was involved in the img2nb0 project, so I could try to contact markyoung the developper that made the tool, maybe he could create the reverse tool to build IMG from NB0, however I still think it's more convenient to upgrade via SD than USB.
An easy kitchen for x51v...

Yes, I agree it is the best way, and unsure as of which is faster but.... I'd prefer it if the Axim could be in the cradle, load kitchen, pick the oem's you wanna install, hit play, and when it get's done, it start's the flash process right then, and with just a click or two, start's flashing the Axim right there. This BuildOS has a list of different flash methods that you can choose from before hitting play. So only the real n00b's would need to use the cradle flash method. Everybody else could choose SD Flash method as their option.
This kitchen also supports the saving of all your selections, and other options. So you would only need to pick your flash method once, and then save it to your own personal txt file. Then you would just load kitchen, and then open your saved txt file with your selections/options in it. So you do not have to keep repeating yourself with this kitchen for anything. Pagepool, OEMs, and all other options are savable.
BTW, this kitchen is designed for each and every device that can be flashed. As long as the setting's are correct, anything's possible. So if there is a kitchen you would like, pm me, and let me know...
Count me as someone who would love to have a x51v kitchen.
but .... what's a kitchen (just kidding).

Yes, I have thought about adding the X50.
1. One question tho, as with the X3 series, I'm assuming that the same ROM can be installed on the X50, and the X50v ?? If so, then it would def be possible...
2. The main problem with that, is I'll prob more than likely need a tester since I do not personally have the device...
3. Also, I'll need any links to pages that have any information like the PagePool address (if diff than the X51v) and stuff like that so I can make sure all the settings are correct in the kitchen. Any other information like the exact resolution (240x320 ??) and stuff like that....

Can anybody point me to any links that show this process?? (Never actually done this myself with my Axim X51v. I have with me X3i, but it was with the Dell Rom Utility.) If so, I can prob more than likely add it to the menu's as a tool to use from within buildos..
DEPRECATED VERSION: USE 0.2 BETA INSTEAD
PLEASE NOTICE THAT THIS KITCHEN IS A VERY EARLY BETA AS IT HAS NOT BEEN DEEPLY TESTED
*** USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK! I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY! ***
Hi guys,
after many days of testing I'm releasing my kitchen for i780.
It is very basic: no gui, only batch Windows scripts.
What you can do with this kitchen:
A) Convert your Part02.raw dumped rom to bin flashable PDA rom
B) Create a dump folder to cook your own rom and recreate a bin flashable PDA file.
Please notice that there's no tool included to edit, add or delete modules and files from rom dump.
You must use one of the tools available here in forum to do this or do this by hand.
Donwload the zip file and extract everything.
READ CAREFULLY THE README FILE IN THE ZIP ARCHIVE
This file explains how the procedures work and what you need.
PLEASE TEST THIS KITCHEN AND REPORT YOUR RESULTS
I thank chaimd for his bintonb0 tool, tadzio for his tools and Juggler for conv3 sourcecode.
I also thank Topogigi for his original procedure.
I modified conv3 tool to make it work with i780 rom files and made split and merge tools.
If you want to try this kitchen, I thank you!
If any guru in the forum wants to make a gui for this kitchen or insert tools for module, file and registry editing (like the ones you can find in other kitchens), it would be appreciated.
Issue 1: it seems there's a problem with Part02.raw conversion. It screws up connection settings. Problem is being investigated.
[Partial solution]: it seems that this problem is due to both size and language: I used an English rom to convert an Italian Part02.raw.
Using an Italian rom seems to solve the problem. But you must check the new rom size: if it's too big it gets cut down and it doesn't work.
Amazing Thank you very much!

Convert Part02.raw to .bin
Hello famusc,
Thanks for your effort to create a kitchen for the i780! I wanted to create a backup of my Dutch i780-rom (PDA: i780XKHA3) and I managed to dump part00.raw, part01.raw and part02.raw.
Now I wanted to convert part02.raw to a flashable .bin file so I could reflash this Dutch rom if I want to go back to factory defaults, but the warnings make me a bit scary to test the .bin I created, so I wanted to ask some questions first:
-The .bin has to be as large as possible, I have the i780pda_WWE_test2.bin which is 78.512 kB and my Part02.raw is 79.104 kB. The .bin I get when the conversion is finished has a size of 78.512 kB. Does this mean some data of my original dump is lost? (I kinda understand your conversion tool replaces the part02.raw file of a flashable .bin rom with another part02.raw which in my case is the Dutch part., but is all the information still in it?)
-My second question is if it is a problem if I used an English .bin with a Dutch .raw?
If you could please anwer my questions I would be very happy, because I have seen some requests for Dutch i780 roms and it might come in handy for other languages, because in this rom Windows Live Messenger is included (and obviously working). So maybe someone can extract it.
If you are interested I could upload the .raw files i have dumped and maybe you or someone else can create a flashable Dutch rom from it (or extract WLM if it is needed).
Grtz,
Manchurian

-My second question is if it is a problem if I used an English .bin with a Dutch .raw?
If you could please anwer my questions I would be very happy, because I have seen some requests for Dutch i780 roms and it might come in handy for other languages, because in this rom Windows Live Messenger is included (and obviously working). So maybe someone can extract it.
If you are interested I could upload the .raw files i have dumped and maybe you or someone else can create a flashable Dutch rom from it (or extract WLM if it is needed).

Thank you for using my kitchen.
First of all I ask you to use version 0.2 BETA: it contains some important corrections in conv3 tool.
Now:
1) Part02.raw is usually bigger than required. So we are interested into its shrinked size. I think that your 78512K bin file should be good.
In 0.2 kitchen it is explained how to check bin size is enough for new data.
2) It's not clear whether you'll have problem with a bin of a different language than raw file. As for my experience, I always got connection problem when I used a different language bin. You can try and then have a look at connection settings and at wifi Internet-Work settings. If you find no connection defined or you can't connect through wifi, than it doesn't work.
You should use a Dutch bin to be sure you'll have no problem.
Hope I helped you,
Bye
Hi, Thank You for your I780 Kitchen ,
this is first time i build a rom,
may i know that where can i found the file
part02.raw?
Thank You for reply =)
Hey, sorry to start another thread, but I noticed that on HP's web site there was a ROM Update for the iPAQ 110 series, and I remembered that the reason why the iPAQ 210 couldn't be flashed was because we didn't have certain files needed to flash to it. And, I was wondering if it was possible to get any of those files from it, or maybe even replace the IMGFS partition to make it compatible with the iPAQ 210(and change the OS version too), and use hpruu.exe to flash it to the iPAQ 210, if that's possible that is.
Edit:I have Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5 IMGFS(in BIN format), so I don't need anyone to do that.
Well I suppose if that's not possible, is there any way I could use a program like pdocwrite to write the files to the IMGFS partition, and if so, how?
Well, I guess I'll just try to get an HTC Touch HD and flash a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM to it instead of trying to develop one for the iPAQ 210. Oh, well, at least I tried. Here are the 6.1 and 6.5 IMGFS partition files for it in case anyone wants them.
Note:The File Hoster will only allow 10 downloads, so only download if your actually going to do something with it.
