I can't find a suitable use for that ctrl key... Whatever I use it for, it doesn't activate anything....
Has anybody found out how to use this ctrl key?
Does it work for Copying and pasting? Ctrl + C etc?
Not got mine infront of me so i cant check
Yes it does - now that I have tried....
Sorry for asking a dumb question....
... Now I wonder whether there are just CTRL+C / X / P or there are other commands available...?

Will no doubt depend somewhat on the application. Boy do I wish Sprint's version didn't take it away
nothing in the manual? (A)
I imagine there pretty similar to the commands on a keyboard?
I know Command A works to select all on the software keyboard on all PPCs so try that one?
To be honest, how many different commands are there for the Control button? I think in Total Commander you can use the control to select multiple files/folders.
will there be a function for switching programs or pages just like the PC e.g. CTRL TAB? It will cool if there is a function like that.

There is no TAB. :-(
I thought I'd revisit this. This may be helpful for those of you who didn't read your device's user manual (which is where the attached came from)...
the Ctrl key is so useful in Remote Desktop

I had the same issue. Which app are u using? If you're reading an email or text msg, try pressing the right softkey - the menu has a "select text" option which will then let you highlight and copy text. The notes app behaves just as you'd expect. Other apps may have other ways to copy/paste.
hi,
Using the hard keyboard: CTRL +C to copy
and CTRL+V to paste
Select text and use one of your keyb "ctrl + c" to copy, "ctrl + v" to paste.
you can also do the same with the virtual keyboard.
Try FingerKeyboard v2.1

Yeah, I saw it on TV last night.
Nice to hear that a EUR 700 -phone now can do what my EUR 100 -phones back in 2002 could do
MMS are now possible too -what a huge leap in innovation
And don't forget video recording! It's breathtaking technology!

Some of the carriers didn't ship their units with a Keyboard (including mine). If this is the case, you just have to select the text and the touch+hold the text again and select copy. If you're unable to select text, you may just have to enable it (like in the HTC SMS screen. Same thing as Opera.)
After that it should work like a dream
I had a fairly simple desire to map in a hotkey to enable and disable wifi with a single press-- I'm using the current 3VO 6.5 ROM. I'd located the Wireless Toggle utility, but now I need to attach it to a key. I didn't want to use the T-zones key by redirecting the Short_IE.lnk, because I find Celetask very useful there. I assume I could redirect the camera with Short_Camera, but I kind of like having this there too. The AEBPlus utility seems like overkill-- I only want to redirect one key, and I'm a little intimidated by the "oops I can't use my dash anymore" potential from mismapping some keys.
The solution I wanted to come up with is mapping an Alt value to the T-Zones or Mail key, or possibly redirecting the Mail key. However when I look at the et9 keyboard mapping file, I see that these keys aren't even in it from what I can see. I guess they are different from the other keys, and so I'm not sure I have the capacity to add an Alt value. So these are my questions:
- Is there some integrated way to assign Alt values to the Tzones and Mail keys without AEBPlus or another utility?
- Is tmail.lnk the shortcut that controls the Mail key? Are there other shortcuts that also are involved?
Sorry if this has been answered before. I tried to search on this, but maybe I just wasn't coming up with the right search string.
Thanks,
Gnat
Well, I take little pride in having stumped the forum-- at least I didn't get a "learn to search" response.
In the end I have solved the problem by using Chome Configuration to remap the second softkey for the Wireless Manager option under Settings from "All Settings" to "Wireless Toggle". This spares me from having to open HTC Communication Manager and scrolling around to enable wifi-- a pretty significant improvement for me.
Thanks,
Gnat
Glad you worked it out and didn't get use the search as it's not an answered question not many people use AEButton on smartphone and defo not in sticky
If you want a guide still of how to use AEButton i could run you off some screenys to demonstrate as it's an amzing bit of kit.

Don't know if you are still reading this, but if you know of a tutorial or guide to AEB, please share it.
I'm trying out the app right now, but find it extremely difficult to figure out, how to use it. And the author included no guide nor help file with the app. And his web page doesn't tell you how to use it.
One other concern--it seems to slow down the device a whole lot!
is it possible? what software is needed? I don't use the "au" button so I wonder if I can make it like "ctrl" so it will be easy to copy/paste?
would this work? http://ae.inc.ru/aekmap.php
thanks

maybe U can try PqzII for WM 6, googling it.
I was also looking for a way to get CTRL functionality, tried both aekmap and PqzII, none of them worked so good and were a bit hard to get up and running, anyway i found "Kwik-e-map" at this forum which could map the fn button (the fn button is in the most logical ctrl spot at the keyboard so that's perfect) to function as ctrl while at the same time hitting either z,x,c,v or a (undo, cut, copy, paste and mark all) it takes only ~ 300KB of RAM and barely 0.5% CPU while being used (which is when you execute the mappings).
That's all i would use CTRL for anyway and those buttons doesn't have any "fn"-functionality, which makes it a "perfect" ctrl button.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=490013
I've also attached my configuration file, so you can just copy it over into your KwikEmap folder and have it working at Xperia X1! =) (add a shortcut to the .exe in the autorun folder to have it boot up at reboot)
Note that the program is made for Raphael/Fuze, but it works flawlessly at Xperia. (I've removed all Raphael default mappings that's included in the .cfg file from the beginning)
Highly recommended mapping tool!
THANKS!
Thanks noONExda.
Here is a cab with your cfg.
Thanks radospol, can be handy having the .CAB premade for X1 =)
I've seen a lot of X1 users looking for CTRL mapping to get Copy/paste ability, so feel free to spread that CAB around to the X1 people =) the cab should be renamed though to make it clear it's preconfigured for X1 i think. (if it's alright with the developer that is..)
Ok. You ask the developer allowed to rename? Then you can create a topic.
It would be a useful topic.
Any way to make the T Mobile Function key work? I've been searching everywhere.
+1...i have been trying to get this to work also
Yeah. I just want to be able to type question marks and quotes without having to slide in the keyboard and do it via onscreen keyboard
< and > symbols would also be awesome if they could be hardcoded some how. They arent even symbols on the keyboard even on Win Mo but I would love to have them, especially if this Ubuntu thing works great. I do lots of HTML / PHP so... PHP coding on the TP2 would be pretty sick Kinda hard to do without < or > symbols. Could use { and } too
try the ctrl key. im pretty sure that worked for me
the CTRL key makes an '@' sign.
Are any of you using the T-Mobile RHOD210 rootfs.img with keymap? That should hopefully map all the RHOD210's keyboard keys correctly.
Yeahhh, that thing doesn't work.
So yeah, it's not the FN key, it's the ALT key -_-.
Anyways, hitting ctrl just makes an @ sign. ALT does nothing. Shift works.
My keymap is set to Rhod210..
What do I do :'(
thanx for the info but it will work on android????

Any news on this? how do i make the alt KEY WORK...i remember it worked b4 but isnt that rootfs.img that was presented as a link a couple posts back too old? can someone pppleeeaseee help ...thanks
I know it has got to be something simple, but I want an SSH server on the Andriod OS, but to do so I need access to keys chars such as / and " ..., but I can not get the FN key which should be in the "Shift Ctrl" position to work. Best solution would be to have the keyboard mapping exactly as it appears on the Tilt2, second best would be to have it work with a standard mapping and not AT&T's. yet so far I can figure out neither.
Thanks,
ERIC

When I use the Tilt2 keyboard mapping when booting into Android, I have a fully functional Tilt2 keyboard, including the Fn keys...
Do you have this entry in your startup.txt set cmdline section?:
physkeyboard=tilt2

Im looking at my keyboard right now, and neither the / nor the " require the FN key to use them.... they are their own button. On top of that, my FN key works perfect, otherwise I wouldnt be able to use the numberpad. So what exactly are you talking about? lol
The "Tilt2" is only the name for the AT&T branded TP2. If you have a different handset other than that, you need to match that to the device you have using the startup utility (MJGDroidUtil.exe).
I'm gonna guess he is just running the harret.exe and not the util that lets you set your config. you need to run the the other exe mjutil something or other and it will let you pick your keyboard then it should all work fine
