I am writing this thread in the hopes that someone will build the perfect ROM. I have superficially compared two populars ROMs and hope someone combines them or teaches me how.
Comparison between:
Vanilla ROM (RUU_Excalibur_WM61_Kavana_Rickys_v24_Vanilla)[/COLOR]
&
Energy ROM (EnergyROM 1.0 052409 Excalibur)
VANILLA-Font options for date & time panel
ENERGY-No option to modify font
VANILLA-Panels are opaque
A lot of pre-installed panels
ENERGY-Panel are glass clear
(Nice!)
VANILLA-No reboot option on power button
ENERGY-Nicer power button menu
VANILLA-Same available Memory (About 19-21megs)
ENERGY-Same available Memory (About 19-21megs)
VANILLA-Old standard start menu icons
(Though, when going over icon, image changes)
ENERGY-Very nice start menu icons
(static images)
VANILLA-Better Sim Manager
ENERGY-Limited, at best
VANILLA-3 Alarms (My Razr had a better alarm program)
ENERGY-2 Alarms (My Razr had a better alarm program)
VANILLA-Flash Player
ENERGY-No Flash Player(no biggie, easy to install)
VANILLA-Plays Mp4 with audio and video
WM Media Player ver 10.3 Build 19700
ENERGY-Does not
WM Media Player plays video, but not audio.
WM Media Player ver 10.3 Build 21048
TCPMP play audio and not video
VANILLA-Old HTC Audio Manager Version 1.02
ENERGY-Newer NICER Version 2.0
VANILLA-Audio Recorder, saves to phone or storage card
ENERGY-Audio Recorder, does not save to device or storage
VANILLA-Picture Viewer, but no HTC Album manager
(Bummer)
ENERGY-Picture Viewer and HTC Album manager
(Very nice addition)
VANILLA-Resco Explorer
ENERGY-Total Commander
VANILLA-Old standard volume indicator screen
ENERGY-Nice volume indicator screen
VANILLA-2 note pad programs
ENERGY-No note pad program
VANILLA-No streaming media
ENERGY-HTC Streaming Media ver 3.10h(yeah baby!)
VANILLA-Annoying jogger indicator on home screen
ENERGY-clean
VANILLA-Voice Command access's program, but doesn't run it, or dial the contact
ENERGY-Voice Command does both
After trying both of these I have decided that these are the best out of the bunch. Please help to build the ULTIMATE ROM.
I. Love. Energyrom.
I agree. The ENERGY ROM, while not perfect (yet), is really the best I've used. Great work!
No offense, but this threat is meaningless.
VANILLA24 is totally outdated.

Fist bit yes this is meaningless...... As there are not too many ROMs to flash them all and find the one you want and most of the cons on v.24 Vanilla can be sorted like panel and streaming media etc.
v.24 Vanilla is not outdated and still used by many people you can still tweak it a hell of alot and have a large device memory and pagepooled it works very well............. Yes it may not be fresh but then does that always matter?

That's funny! the thread might be meaningless, but coming from someone that's only posted in four threads total and probably haven't tried all the different roms, makes it even funnier

It's ok Stylez , we know that v24 vanilla is not outdated , shoot , there's people still using the original Kavana 6.1 rom that wouldn't change it for anything else.
If my Pagepooled Vanilla rom with 24m ram and 20m rom storage and the high level of customization is outdated, then I guess I'm oldschool.
Meaningless?
I would suggest that include the Rose ROM into the mix as well. There are some things that I would like to see in the Rose ROM from Energy ROM. The icons are really neat. I have used several of the roms put up on XDA and am, by no means, an expert.

I have tried many of the ROM's myself over the last few months and I use the Vanilla rom still currently. The vanilla rom just happened to be the last one I flashed on my dash. The other ROM's have some nice things about them but at the same time there are things that I did not like at the same time. It really just boils down to your preference on features.
I have decided to start building my own...I don't really know how long it will take, but I'll eventually post it...

Yeah... It IS outdated. But then again, the phone itself is outdated as hell too.. so...... it's a moot point I guess.
It's funny that the guy is comparing two ROMs made by me... LOL

How about a new excalibur rom using the m2d homescreen with the best programs from the energy rom and the 6.1 kavana's/rickwyatt's/nrg's rose roms?
That would be awesome! Just throwing an idea out there.

Yes for WXML but for vanilla ?
WMXL for sure... It has the regular Vanilla ROM plus some extras! And they both seem just as quick and stable as the other to me.
I'm a Vanilla lover I'm afraid.
I always manage to get rid of a few unnecessary files/folders etc that are present even in the Vanilla releases, which gives me even more "ROM space" to cook my own ROM with as many of my own software choices squeezed in there as possible...

Well, the removal of the Office and RDP icons in the Vanilla ROM were the deciding factor for me. Yeah, the additional software takes up a little space, but they're small and not enough for me to worry about. And since I just started customizing ROMs, I am not too concerned about a MB or two until I really need them back.

Absolutely!
Don't get me wrong, Kypher's done a great job. The added software doesn't have any impact on available Storage space after flashing and there's no reason at all why anyone should choose the "Vanilla" ROM over the "Live" ROM...
...unless you're going to cook your own ROM, and you want to start from square one with less to strip out in the first place.
I'll probably make a load of changes and additions that Kypher has already incorporated into "Live", but I like to start with a clean slate, and having messed around with a lot of ROM's on my previous devices, I'm pretty sure that I know 90% of what I'm going to do before I even start, and assuming I'm right, space is going to be at a premium!
Happy cooking!
It also comes down to how soon you got on board .
I was one of the first to download and install the Vanilla ROM before the WXML release was announced, and for me at this point there is no point in changing (especially after just getting my software how I like it ). Remember there will be most likely several releases of WXML over the next couple of weeks, so my advice is if you're already on Vanilla there is not much reason to move to WXML .10 at the minute .
I've a tytn in Portuguese unlocked, can I install vanilla or wxml?

Me too, and I used it for a grand total of 10 hours before I downloaded WMXL 0.1. And I'm glad I did. I like the software packaged with it, and I like the restored Office and RDP icons. I'll probably stick with this one for a while, but I am glad I went to WMXL from the Vanilla ROM.

u have to load each because each user here may have a different experience with each because for me one rom maybe perfect next person may crash left and right and so on so only way to know is trying each like i like pvh 19400 although am now trying pvh19900
To a fellow OK State alumn, I have tested at least a dozen different 6.1 ROMS and this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376223
has been the cleanest, fastest, and most stable one for me. Just add the applications you want.
Much thanks! Yea thats the one i was toying around with. There are so many apps out there. I dont know where to start. and which ones would tailor towards my use.
i downloaded and tried them all,
Quite happy with the one ive got now, many have loads of apps but you start to loose available RAM when that happens.
best just to try a few and see which one best suits what you want to do, suggestion though is to keep your PIM and other things backed up incase you need to do a hard reset in the event of a freeze
Just keep on this forum as often as you can. It took me months to find out what I wanted and what worked. Just be patient and play around. It is more of a hobby to me than anything.
less questions and read read read the thread posts!! try a few with features u like! all the cooks have great roms if u know how to use them....
Best ROM
I have install and test almost all the WM 6.1 ROMS.
Like the other guys say you really have to test out a ROM as you might like some features over others.
In my time i have found the following:
TNT ROM WM6.1 to be the best all rounder - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376945
Only thing i don't like about it is the startup speed. Every with the animation disabled and the network auto config it still makes a good long while.
Blinky ROM WM 6.1 Super fast and really cool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383751
My favourite ROM so far but does not come with many applications
im using pays rom 6.1, use it for a month now. stable and quite fast

Its what I have and his review is spot on. Its very fast, probably the fastest I have ever used and incredibly fast startup time. It was missing many of the programs I like but thankfully I already had them on my storage card from playing with a Schaps Lite ROM a while back. I think my last changes will be a flashlight software like vjcandela and something better for BT transfers but all in all this is a great ROM and will definitely keep me happy until the next Schaps is released.
I like PDAViet build 19900... It is SOOOOOOOOO fast and had a remarkable 28Mb of ram left after installing it with almost 70Mb storage memory. Now down to about 25MB ram and 45Mb storage as I've put a heap of 3rd party apps on...Cheers...
the last Binky 6.1 WM 3.5 is a great slim one and you have the possibility to install your own apps after flashing
but guys, I can't beam files using the f***ing IR port... anyidea about it?
Just a quick poll for my own curiosity if nothing else, which WM 6.1 ROM are you using?
If not one of the above, please add a post explaining which.
Also, are there are any newer benchmarks available than those shown here?
You forgot "Binky11's ROM". Best I have used so far.
We seem to be getting a few 'others', but no indication which they are?
I'm currently using Faria's/Dr. Puttingham's ROM but it seems a little unstable, as the OS freezes on me forcing me to pull the battery to reset. I installed it yesterday, with 2 freezes already. I think I'm going to try another one. I use an 8525 btw.
-PB
PDACorner's ROM's have been the cleanest and most stable for me. He is always using the latest builds. I am currently using V.14. build 20226.
Personally I stay away from super storage ROMS. I don't have a need for them, and maybe by sheer coincidence I've only had 1 hard-reset for all the ROMs I've tried, whereas it seems like other folks were having them more often.
I've been a fan of the pdaviet ROMs, but lately have been happy with CRCs... not sure if you need to break out his dev ROMs from stable, since one is just a progression to another.
Stable, with good available program memory.
I used schaps 4 for ages, but I find myself more and more taking a simple "no options" rom (like the PDACorner rom) and adding the dialer, interface, and applications that I really want, instead of using some rom someone else builds.
So I guess you could say I use PDACorner with LOTS of mods.
CRC's 11.2 and 12.2 is the same
Basically re numbered. I too have issues with BS ROMs, my device seems not to agree with it! I would love to try again in the near future, but I use my device for business and can not afford hard resets at all. I go with CRC's ROM for weeks with the only need to power off and on again with side button every other week.
I don't know why but I can't seem to find others that would not hard reset on me, yet.
I have been using Alex's v5.att.161.home ROM for months now, and I love it.

i think the "others" are older WM 6.0 ROMs. im still using sleuth 3.1 from 7/5/07! =P. it's a PITA to backup data then upgrade, then resync data.
but i'm looking forward to upgrading soon, i think wm6.1 improves performance+stability yes?

Dvha79_ddt
Its always updated with the latest build. Its clean and stable. Suits my taste.
for what it's worth see my signature...
I have tried at some point just about every 6.1 rom I can find on this forum.
The PDAcorner v16 seemed good, and VERY fast, but I didnt like the UI or the idea of how long it would take me to get it how I like it.
I LOVE CRC's roms, they are clean, stable, and fast. Using 12.2 atm! with a 8meg page pool, dam fast!
For those who speak of the "latest build" ala PDA Viet and PDA corner...is there actually a noticeable difference when u flash to a later build ROM? I love flashing a new ROM but it takes me such a long time to get it tweaked to how i like it, so i don't do it so much and then when you consider that you can try the same ROM with so many Pagepool settings, sigh....i could be spending HOURS testing ROMS and just don't have the time to play with them all and at diff settings. That is why I am VERY glad for a thread like this, cause it seems to be frowned upon to compare the ROMS on this site (or mainly to ask the oppinion for a ROM)...i don't exactly understand that, why not discuss and compare them?
what i am wondering, are the latest builds considered to always be the best? i feel like there are so many factors (including unknown ones) that attribute to a ROM being a good working ROM.
for those who have tried lots of the PDAVIET ROMS, any thoughts on which is/are the best?
I can't pick one of the ROMS on the list, but i will say this, i've been on WM6.1 for a while and am considering trying 6.0 again to get a new frame of reference to tell if one is indeed better than the other for me
Shamanix`s WM6 Ultimate v2 FINAL [SuperStorage] With add on's
I'm using CRC12.3 at the moment, but I'm not all that rapt in it.
PDV has had some good ones. Does a nice clean install and removes rubbish that other ROMs leave behind. Got rid of a bug that had plagued me for months.
PDACorner has had some good ones.
Randomize had the best package that needed the least customising by me.
I guess I'm just a ROM junkie.
Been thinking of upgrading to a Samsung i900, but then I'd miss all this fun.

You can use UC/sdconfig.txt to re-install all your favourite programs that run from internal RAM. Most of the stuff I want to add back in runs off my SD card. I just keep the cabs in a separate folder on my SD card and work through them. Only takes a few minutes.
Biggest hassle I had was with contacts and email settings.
But PIMBackup restores contacts in a flash, and Settings Savior restores all my email accounts (about 4 or 5).
Now I can re-flash and be back in operation in under 30 minutes.
Hey,
Quick question, what is the most "Naked" rom available? I mean No manilla, No Titanium, no add ons (well maybe a few will not bother me)
I'm using energyrom right now (its ok, nothing special, but good, crashes a lot or slows down, apart from that its great) and love the Cloudy roms, they;re my personal fave, BUT I want a completely clean rom (I used to use panosha's roms which were amazing but after 2.4 they were "discontinued" lol ).
I would make one myself but don't want to risk bricking my device, and we can basically get every file we need by a cabinet install anyway I just need a very clean rom!
So basically, it would be nice if someone could direct me to the Cleanest/Lightest/Most Naked Rom! It doesn't matter if it is Win Mo 6.5 or 6.1.
Thanks
Aman
PS. the reason I don't want TF3D or Titanium is because I like the PointUI interface the best in terms of speed and functionality (check pointui.com) and its free, looks stunning if you get a good background and full screen via the customise screen!
I cant remember Da Dui ROM is a vanilla one or not, i've been a few.
Anyway, you should look for a kitchen, which been posted a few developers (yozgatg, mondilv or lobsterdave) in the forum, and remove the manila package and the rest that not necessary to you.
however, the only way to be sure is to build your own one. a naked ROM is not hard to build.
Hmm I would make my own, but I don't know the first thing about cooking a rom! I've tried to read it, but I don't know what kitchen to use (i've seen a few, but didnt really understand some of the apps)
Also, are there any good tutorials?
I have BsB 651G for a while. I'd like to switch to some newer build, but is there a reason? Can I get something new?
BsB is bugfree, looks nice, has about 58mb freeram after sr.
Is there any newer rom fill this criteria?
Thanx for your opinion.

not really it's prob the most solid ROM ther eis for the touch diamond IMO, there is quite a few chefs that have produced ROMS with Sense but its upto you if you wanna try them, i always trying something different but always go back to the ROM in my sig, have you tried Xandroid yet thats fun to play with

yep, i'm watching denstereo's ROM development, but why to flash this? Yes, it has newer kernel, but it doesn't bring any real diference. But 43mb free ram vs 58mb is the real diference

There is no ROMs out there that can compete with BsB - I have tried A LOT of ROMs from here and all of them have bugs apart from BsB
I use my Diamond every day and never have any issues with BsB ever
I will only flash another ROM if Windows Mobile 7 gets ported to Diamond

yeah, I could, but can you tell why? I don't look for Sense. Energy is "full loaded" but it is not actually an advantage. I can install only apps what I want.. Is there anything special at this ROM except of a lot of apps included? Something, what BsB doesn't have?

as have many on here changed ROMS so many times now i think its down to personal choice on what you think is better, some people love BSB ROMS some people prefer other things each to their own, we could give you loads to try but you should just back up everything and give it a go we all no its not to much hassle to swap ROMs so just give them a try if you dont like go back to what you like

a nice and diplomatic response trev.
@davidm2: I just dropped by coz I see my ROM listed in the tryouts. Someone suggested its close to BsB ... I know I'm nowhere close.
But all I can say is that BsB ROMs or for that matter, any other ROM in this forum can never be emulated even if the chefs share their entire kitchen with other fellow chefs. Each chef has a defined style and persona which finds its way to blend into their ROMs.
Fans of BsB will always aim for very high memory, zero bugs/high-stability, speed, and simplicity coupled with a crisp UI. And as trev puts it, its really down to personal choice. Give it a try, you can always switch back to your preferred best.
I've been cooking my own ROMs for a while now, but every time I goof up and need some sanity, I flash back to BsB myself coz I know thats the best of the lot (for me).

Thanks for opinion. There're those ROM's left on my "list": Benko's, l3v5y's and RaL.GT1F. I like the squared buttons, so Benkos, l3v5y's are out for now (seems to be fiddling reason? and what is about?). It looks like I'll try RaL.GT1F. (one question: there is one bug at BsB after all: ezinput(keyboard) in landscape mode isnt show correctly, the keyboard is a little bit wider than the screen, right part is cutted-off, the 'P' letter is missing and half of 'L' letter is missing. Has the RaL.GT1F this bug too?)
