key mapping software - XPERIA X1 Themes and Apps

for those who r familiar with HTC Tytn ll, we can key map each one & every button for designated software.
Is there any software out there for Xperia to do the same?

KeySwop for the 2 Hardware Keys for example

KeySwop only for the soft key. I'm looking 4 software to customize the buttons

Oh sorry, right...KeySwop is for the softkeys! But you can remap the hardkeys with windows itself! Start - Settings - Personal - Keys or Buttons (i have a german Rom and there it´s called "Tasten")
Or do you want to change all the buttons, not just the 2 hardkey buttons?

key swap is fine for me

Hi, I recently installed the TF3D as a panel. However, despite having remapped the two front softkeys using SKTools, it still shows Phone and Camera respectively irregardless of what keys I mapped them to.
Any advice, please?

u can reassign these buttons by:
select settings>personal>buttons. I'm using TF3D 3 too but not as a panel... it worked 4 me

Hi,
I did that for my hard buttons but the soft buttons can't use that method.

u can use advance configuration software then. available on the net for free. but must install msoft net s.ware 1st

re-mapping the softkeys is just what it does, it changes the physical key press action, it does not remap the softkeys on the touch screen, to do that you have to go into the registry and change htc/windows etc. etc.

Any working Button Mapper?

Hi!
Is it somebody using any kind of Button Mapper? And how it works for you?
I have tryied few:
Vito Button Mapper didn't work at all.
Dabble launcher ... this soft can see only 4btns: GPS, Recording, Internet and Camera (Recording didn't work properly, gives me some kind of mistake with buttons.exe)
And last one what I tried it was AE Button Plus (but I didn’t have enough time to take a closer look on it)
So, what is you experience? Any luck?

No, I am not looking for soft key applet ... My Soft keys working fine (and I have already installed soft for it, it comes in the rom) I can change them as I want ... But the question was: That I want to find soft which gives you opportunity to do a: Double click, Press and hold and etc.
Thanks ...

Here's an older reply of mine to a similar request for a button mapper.
Must have application for onehanders is a small utility called AE Button Plus at http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php. This allows you to map any number of system functions and applications to buttons (each button can acquire 3 more functions by double, triple and long press). For instance, I have mapped the mouse courser to a double click of a button. I have also mapped my ok button so that it really closes applications on a long press.
I know I sound like a sales rep but I am just a appreciative user.

jokkk3r - You are getting the buttons.exe error because you had Vito
Button Mapper installed at one time. I assume that you uninstalled it after you found that it didn't work (I did the same) - however, even after uninstall of Vito, any button that is not remapped by another app or by you through the standard WM5 button console will be stuck with the registry values that were assigned by Vito. So when that button is pressed again, the registry is telling it to look for the Vito software (called buttons.exe) that you have uninstalled. Hence, the error "buttons.exe not found."
Long story short, just disable any button mapping app you have running and then use the WM5 console to remap all problem buttons (even if it looks like they are already set.) Then start using your button mapping app again and the error should be gone.
By the way, I had the same problem with my record button (on press and hold) with Double Launcher. Single press, double press, and triple press would work, but press-and-hold would give me the error. That's how I found this solution. I still use Double Launcher despite the fact that it only sees 4 buttons (4x4=16 mappings is more than enough for me to try to remember! ) As I said - to get the press and hold function to work, you have to first disable DL and remap that function to whatever you want within WM5 - then use DL to remap the other 15 functions and the one you mapped in WM5 should remain (just don't assign anything to record button press-and-hold within DL)

SPB pocket plus
softkey applet lets you change only 2 soft buttons
And SPB pocket plus do the rest of work - 6 other buttons are remmapable
And SPB plus also give you the really close applications button and many many more...
I`m using softkeya applet + spb pocket plus - it`s great
Instead of IE I mapped the alt-tab button
Instead of GPS - close app button
Instead of camera at the right side - rotate screen
Left soft key - Explorer
Right soft key - Contacts

Alt Tab + AltF4

Attached zip folder with two files:
1. Alt Tab
2. Alt F4
- Copy the files to your windows folder
- Make a shortcut for each file to the programs folder
- Assign a button to each program
For example I assigned button no.2 (IE) to Alt Tab and button no.5 voice dial to Alt F4
This two small programs work very well
Alt F4 closes programs (Comm. manager too)
Alt Tab switches between open applications (including phone and ActiveSync)
Enjoy
Edward

Hi edward-riko,

for me I like my IE and Mess buttons. I like you alt tab and alt f4 but don't want to give up any buttons. I need more buttons I guess.....
I may make a cab for this zip for you all though. then the shortcuts would be made automatically.
When I get to the hotel maybe I get bored and make a cab.

I have the same problem - not enough buttons - I use IE for AltF4 and didn´t map Alt Tab to any button, cos I use my mess button for Vijay´s Flashlight.
Does anyone know if there is a way to double map buttons? Like button 5 has to functions by using "press and hold" ?

Dear Pronor
you can make the comm manager button double use in order to go from ring to vibrate and visa versa from vibrate to ring
you need to install the attached cab and then power off the device (not soft reset but power off) after you power on and push and hold the comm manager button it will put your device to vibrate , another push and hold back to ring
hope this helps you

Dear edward-rico,
sometimes after I posted something here I become aware of something I forgot before like this time forgot about the CommButton-Toggle-Vibrate-Fix.cab I´ve installed on my hermes - which exactly does what I was asking for
I guess I will have to learn how to make own cabs, cos if it´s possible with the commButton it should be possible with any button, if one just knows how to do it.
BTW.., since I´m exercising the hardware buttons of my device - is there a big difference between AltF4 and the OK Button on the very bottom right? I think I was never aware of that one before.

I780 and Smartkeys / AEButton Plus probelm

Hi, I recently bougth a Samsung i780 (italian unbranded), I would like to use the volume buttons as scroller, I tried both Aebutton and Smartkeys and both are working almost fine.
Almost...
With both the utility the smartphone hangs whenever I launch the camera app, no matter if I use a program shortcut or the HW button, no matter if the default camera HWbutton is enabled or not.
Any other user faced this problem ?
Any workaround found ?
Any other sw I can use ?
Thanks in advance.
hi. I have had EXACTLY the same problem as I have tried to do exactly what you have done with the volume buttons. sometimes it works and sometimes not. . (actually I couldn't figure out what was making the camera hang - u think its aebutton: could be...). the i780 is a great device, basically my tytn ii but faster. slimmer and a far better form factor. mouse ideas is novel but it does miss the directional arrow buttons.
anyway. I haven't figured out a fix yet, just wanted to show my support for your post!
Yep !
Exactly the same here ! Hope I will find a software that works !
Thanks for your interest, i hope some more skilled user(s) can help us to solve the problem.
In the meantime I'm go to ask some help to Alexander Eltsin (the author of AeBUTTON PLUS), but I'm afraid that the response will be the same as when I asked about the the treo 750 problem (no device in my hand, not a lot I can do).
on my treo 650 and 680 i could assign a shortcut to ANY key on my keyboard (long pusdh). Anyone know which software can do this?
PQZ II, a freeware, can remap buttons, works on volume and the camera button as ok, and the camera keeps on working!! plus you can get more then one set of remapping using assigned alt and ctrl keys, really nice app, although buttons plus double, tripple press is great.
Also is there a solution to the mouse button not doing a long press to the "right click" menu like the regular dpad middle button or stylus long press? it's really annoying samsung not adding that, there are no direction keys so by default you cant even use the soft menu button because once you make a file it is executed.... nm PQZ solves this with the volume button, plus the annoying problem that the volume button works while device locked in pocket is also solved by this.
could you explain if its possible to remap the volume keys, using them has scroll???

Tested multiple version of PQz - it works and seem to be really powerful - unfortunately it is not able to catch the volume up/down on the I780. Any other key is recognized except volume up/down....
Ok managed to make it work (basically I've missed the flag to enable use of volume buttons).
I can confirm it works and doesn't broke the camera button!!

Configure the apps (you can launch PQzII_Setup in the installation folder):
- flag "enalbe volume key convert" in the Window section
- in the Code section flag "use this section" and add a mapping IN= VOL-U => OUT=UP, IN=VOL-D => OUT=DOWN
PQZ II is not working at all on my device! The only thing I get is a little white square wich opens in front on my device...
Anyone who has a clue how to fix this?
just read the docs....
you have to tap on the square until a menu popup

Q: Avoiding Hardware Home Key?

The Note 8 looks great except for the hardware Home key. It's annoying to need physical force for a frequent task that should only take a slight touch.
Is there some way to work around the hardware Home key and avoid using it? Some of the reviews have mentioned on-screen keys, is it possible to keep those enable in all orientations & applications? Alternatively, is it possible to remap one of the capacitive keys to become a Home button?
Any methods or tips about how to avoid using the hardware Home key would be appreciated.
My Galaxy S4 has an Assistant Menu which provides things like an on screen Home and menu button. It's not in my Note 8.0 yet but may be added in a future release I guess.

Button Savior looks helpful, I played with it a little using both auto-hide and permanent display modes. The only downside to hidden mode is it takes two motions, first to expand the menu, then to click the home button. That can be done pretty quickly though.
Why do you like having a hardware button? I don't see why they made 2 buttons compatible with S-pen, and didn't make the Home button usable with the stylus as well.

Habit would probably be the best answer. I came to the Note 8 from a hacked Nook Color running CM10. I got accustomed to waking the device with the "n" hardware button. Like my old Nook, I put a non-slip bumper case on my Note 8 which makes pushing the power button to wake a little tedious. I also like to read in the dark and like the hardware key as a landmark for orientation when I pick it up with the lights off. Finally, I use the tablet in the kitchen on a stand for displaying recipes. I use a cheapest of the cheap $5 stylus in the kitchen to wake it up by pushing the hardware key and for scrolling pages so I don't get the tablet or the S-pen all gunked up with cookie dough from my fingers.:silly:

This is my concern, Im hoping that by using a case that goes over the bevel rather than sits flush with it, my palm will be less likely to brush against the back and menu capacitive buttons when playing games or drawing. My device should be arriving this evening so I will have to experiment to find my best solution. I dont want to mod the software to disble the buttons and get the traditional menu bar on the screen. I value the screen real estate. If they were physical buttons I wouldnt have this issue

It's still a bit annoying to me in landscape mode, but in Portrait mode it's been actually quite fine (even drawing). Perfect would be an app that could just temporarily disable/toggle it (maybe via a small 1x1 widget). Then if I want to use it in landscape mode (or whenever Im going to use it in a way that could be annoying with the capacitive keys), I could simply turn it on.
I do like the physical/capacitive keys in general too, since I also value the screen real estate so I guess for me a toggle solution would be best. Maybe I'll investigate into it and make it myself...
Or you can add Home button as Multiwindow "app" with this

Hi, there's a way for disabling the capacitive keys, just look under development here on this forum. The mod will disable the keys and require the S Pen to make them work (quite useful for landscape) to enable On-Screen Buttons you should try this (works on the Galaxy S3/Note/Note II) I haven't tested in the Note 8 but I will as soon as I get mine (by the end of this month).
Enable on-screen buttons:
You will need root access for this.
Install ES File Explorer File Manager on your Note from the Play Store. This is a file manager that will be used to edit those system files to enable/disable on-screen/soft buttons.
Open ES Explorer. Then, click the menu button on your device and click Settings. Here, tick the “Up to Root” option. Then go down and tick the “Root Explorer” option, then press Allow/Grant button when prompted to grant it root access. Then, tick the “Mount File System Option” as well. Once all three options are selected, press back to exit the settings.
Hit the Up on top in ES Explorer till you reach the outermost folder (till it says / at the top).
Go into the system folder, then scroll down to find the build.prop file (Copy this file to a Safe location!!).
Tap on this file to start editing it. If you get an “Open With” prompt, select “ES Note Editor”.
Now, at the end of the file (at the bottom after the last line), add the line “qemu.hw.mainkeys=0″ (without the ” quotes), then save the file (press the Menu button to see the Save option).
Then, reboot. After the boot up, you should have the virtual on-screen buttons on your screen.

EDIT
How-to: disable the home button
The thread that Samper was referring to is at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250941
I can't post there yet, so I would like to add here that after disabling the menu/back buttons as described there, I worked out how to disable the home button. Following the same instructions as in the above link, also edit the gpio-keys.kl, changing the last line by adding a # to the beginning, so it looks like this:
Code:
#key 172 HOME WAKE
Now that all three buttons are completely dead (though the pen will still activate the menu/back buttons), I use LMT Launcher to provide pie controls at the bottom of the screen. Get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150. PieControl from the Play Store is an easier-to-configure but less powerful alternative to LMT.

Gemini Keyboard Shortcuts

Got my Gemini on Saturday and just working my way around it.
Was looking at shortcuts for the Gemini Keyboard and found the documentation, however all shortcuts are a combination of a key labelled ? (magnifying glass) plus another key.
For the life of me I cannot find the key that is supposed to be the magnifying glass.
Anyone know which key this is supposed to be
Thanks in advance

I think those docs are for generic android with a keyboard; google has been pushing putting a "search" key directly onto keyboards.
The gemini shortcuts are mostly the "Fn" key plus another, which should be labelled. e.g. on mine (UK kbd):
ESC: "back" key, or hold down for "Power"
Fn+ESC: "power"
Fn+D: Android "home" key (desktop, not to be confused with traditional editing "home" key)
Fn+A: Android "recent" key (App switcher)
Alt+Tab: App switcher (standard android binding)
Fn+C: Volume down
Fn+V: Volume up
Fn+B: Brightness down
Fn+N: Brightness up
Fn+Alt: Phone app
Fn+Del: Settings
Fn+T: Mute microphone
Fn+R: Screenshot
etc.
Hope I am not hijacking this thread, but continued question about Fn usage
How does one get all the "strange" characters from the keyboard?
By strange, I mean stuff like "{}[]`/" and similar ones.
From the keyboard looks (symbols imprinted at the bottom of the key) I assumed its a combo of Fn+symbol, but it doesn't work.
I am using US keyboard layout and set to use Gemini keyboard as input method.

Did you figure this out? I'm trying to find that out now too.
It is [Fn] +'/ ' to bring up the symbols keyboard and you can select them from there. {}[]℅™®©¥¢√π∆~ etc...
Function key

When you use the Gemini Keyboard app to configure the Gemini US English layout there is actually one more step it seems. Once you've gone through the setup you should receive a notification to configure your keyboard. Select this and select the Gemini keyboard and you will be good to go. I ignored the notification for a while, believing it was prompting me to go through the setup process again but that was not the case.
Hope this helps.
