update 16 July
Since the Touch Pro2 is finally out in Europe, I expect a lot of new video's about the phone.
Instead of making a thread per video, I thought of making a thread where we gather all the videos. If you find a video that isn't in the list, please post and I will update the list of video's.

Good thread. I hate it when these get started but then don't get updated.
Anyway there should be a ton of reviews within the week and this will save everyone searching a lot of time.
I'm new here, any way to request a sticky?

I expect most media to do it pretty much like pocketnow did--have videos in the review, but have a written review that ties them all together.
Even though some organizations call some of their videos "reviews", they're not much more useful than your average hands-on preview videos. So I definitely support including test reviews.

It is a diffrent phone, and it makes use of Manila 2D. Somepeople have tried porting Footprint to the old Manila 3D, but none of them worked 100%
Installed Android 2.0.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627997) on my TP2 on sunday then basically sold my TP2 and bought a motorola Milestone 2 days later.
(see here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5590611#post5590611)
The transition hasn't been without its "Gotchas" so I will detail them here in case anyone is considering doing the same:
The BAD
- First of the Motorola Milestone and the Motorola Droid are not the same
- Droid is US based and gets software updates well in advance of the European based Milestone
- Motorola have signed the firmware of the EMEA Milestone so you can't load custom roms onto it (however motorola's position on this may change...)
- The milestone ships with android 2.0 which may not be available in your EMEA territory
(As of yesterday the update to 2.0.1 is available for the UK and it brings tons of improvements)
- Android 2.0 on the milestone is sluggish, has camera issues, and won't sync to exchange servers easily and if motorola haven't released the update for your territory you will have to endure this till an update comes
- The milestone's keyboard while not too bad could never hold a candle to the touchpro 2 but it is passable
- None of the andriod movie players allow you to increase playback speed (useful for watching training material)
- None of the movie players for android support xvid or divx
- Rooting a milestone or a droid voids the warranty (however rooting allows for additional functionallity.)
The Good
- The screen 854x480
- Multitouch
- Android Market (This is so intuitive - very well designed - literally find and install an app in seconds) and they seem to have an app for everything - litterally LOL!
- 5 Level Home screen (Currently running the nexus one launcher)
- The camera it's just awesome after the 2.0.1 update
- 25fps video recording at 720x480 (Seriously)
- Dual LED Flash (Very Very Bright - in fact the brightest I've seen)
- The can potentially be safely overclocked to 1.1ghz (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Motorola-DROID-Gets-Overclocked-to-1-1GHz-133177.shtml) Crazy!!!!!
- The Android GUI - very intelligently designed, intuitive and functional
- The ability to run Nexus 1 Apps flawlessly (you really need to see this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hs9VPjdMKqY - I now have this installed as well)
- The RDP Client seriously making the screen emulate a touch pad is just Genius!!! - (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq56-8fQg6o)
- It plays back videos (MP4, 3GP in common resolutions up to 800px wide flawlessly
- Powerful 3D Hardware (the scope for potential here is incredible imho based on the 3D image app I now use to manage my images)
Now for a controversial opinion...
Based on what I've seen of this phone so far I think that it is as fast the the 1GHZ HD2 easily.
I also think that when it's overclocked even to 800mhz it's probably faster (Please note I haven't conclusively tested this yet - this is just an opinion based on observed performance)
So there you have it.
My friend has a Milestone and I'm very tempted. TP2s seem to get a good price on ebay.
As for rooting voiding the warranty every electrical device, whether a toaster or computer, sold in the EU has to have a 2 year warranty by law. Within this 2 year period the manufacturer has to prove that what you have done has caused damage. Overclocking may well be proof but running a different ROM blatantly isn't. If you have problems you should contact the retailer who sold it as they are legally acting as an agent for the manufacturer.
If you want I can post links showing what I have mentioned and showing that the EU court has already ruled every member country has to comply.
And when it comes to the HD2 I read somewhere that it's a brilliant piece of hardware disabled by it's software. Might take a little longer to find that link. Microsoft bloat is almost default.
Maybe next you'll see how much better your PC works on Linux, although that still has a little way to go until my mum would be happy with it. But then she doesn't like landlines with buttons lol
the milestone is not worth me selling my touch pro 2. if anything i would get a HD2. im not a android fan.
Droid was a big step forward, but I will hold on till the next really good QWERTY phone will come out with Android, so I can say goodbye to TP2 and WinMo all together. Apps base needs to grow as well, as it is no where close to WinMo.
My friend who owns a Milestone bought it because it's got a keyboard. However he says he doesn't even use it because the screen is large enough and sensitive enough for him not to have to.
I have given it a go and can see what he means, although the real test only comes with time and pages of text.
What I do know is that the voice recognition on it is extremely impressive. I am hardly a bastion of clear spoken Queens English and have tried Microsoft Voice Command with absolutely no joy whatsoever. In fact I would go as far as saying that MVC is total pants !
However the Google equivalent (free unlike M$) is truly amazing ! It understands everything I say first time and without exception. Makes me start to thing that in the near future we won't be needing to physical input text at all. Wouldn't that be good !
Video formats on Android
I have heard mixed messages about playing multiple video formats on Android. Before I jump to the Nexus or Milestone, I want to just make 100% sure that it is not possible to play Xvid dvix x264, etc. I was told that there are players which make it possible to play these files. Has anyone tried to the yxflash player? says it plays multiple formats:
I can't post the url as I am a new member, but you can go to mobilesoft.kr and select yxflash player for android
and also you can see it in handheld.softpedia.com under Multimedia-Graphics/Video-Players yxflash
please let me know (as my library of videos are in these formats!) Thanks
Hi I want to start this post so everyone can post their experience with the new 720 Recording Feature on the HTC Desire!
Please post Like this:
Video
Description
Problems
FPS
Rom used
I'll start:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxxPdPd8ea4
Description:
Me being very concentrated while playing the Drums... new song Bad Lighting hard sound situation (way too loud for this little Phone ) so worst case
Problems:
I see constant drops in FPS, or more likely a stuttering ever few seconds video playback just kida stops, audio is fine though! I did not have this Problems with other Roms so I think its not my SD card acting up?
FPS: 5-11 not very constant at all, although lighting was very constant (although very bad)
ROM used: LeeDroid 7.1b
Before official update:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugjI5ygsXzQ
Average/good lighting
20fps
Can't remember the rom, I think MCR v5, it was before the official update.
Not a lot of stuttering that I can notice, but the lens cover was a bit smudged and so the video came out a bit opaque.
After the update:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6KuPCn6_2M [quality should improve in a bit]
Probably a tad better lighting conditions
23fps
ieftm semi-stock rom
This is the best sample of three, one was ok, but the last one was stuttering quite a bit, as I think some background program was accessing the sd card heavily. Also lens here was a bit dirty
by the way, youtube quality doesn't render properly, linking videos should be better.

No, I think it was me that turned contrast a bit too high and the fact that without optical zoom or camera lens optics you can get lose details in the distance on such high resolution
I gave up 720p, it is not good. Jumpy, low fps and especially ****ty voice quality.
I use 480p, but it is also not good, not too jumpy ... still ****ty voice quality.
I have 2.2 rom from here and 720p keeps freezing every few seconds.
720p is ok for me. Is it possible that its to do with the internal memory available? I have 60mb or more free, I know some people are down to low numbers. my card is a class2 too. I think the clips look better played on the PC in VLC lpayer than when I upload them to youtube. I think youtube might be introducing some of the negative aspects seen... maybe?

I gotta applaud you. I have used Apple products for 25 years. And I currently use primarily Mac computers, but I also use Windows machines. Very agnostic. But I have never used the iphone, especially since Apple was nowhere in sight when I started with touchscreen smartphones 5 or 6 years ago (but I salute the Newton!)... But I'm a usability designer, so i consider myself fair. And even though I have wanted my Desire to match or exceed the 720p capability of iphone4 -- i was at the Apple store a few weeks ago getting my damp MBP repaired for 3rd time and played with the iP4 -- and the 720p recording is pretty damn good. ... Lastly -- are you familiar with the various TEST PROJECTS that have been going on here since the Nexus One to optimize 720p in this HTC class of phones? If not, search... There are a whole bunch of serious collaborative engineering projects here, and as always XDA-devs work miracles -- so I'm not giving up hope yet. We may smash that iphone yet in recoding quality -- though I doubt it... I am told it records 30fps and no matter what backflips are done here, thru Froyo or other enhancements, we can't get this hardware to meet or exceed that. Is that true?
720p is crap, its just upscale from lover res., dont use it.
more info:
The data rate of 720p is over 4 times greater than 800x480. 6000kb/sec versus 1200kb/sec. It's not purely upscaled at all. I made two sample videos of a page of text and compared.
There was ALOT more detail in the 720p video. Even when I zoomed up the 800x480 one. I agree it's not as good as "true 720 HD" but its certainly not 100% upscaled.

1200:6000 it's 5 times more. Yes it's not true 720 hd, but I can perfectly live with that quality if we get a couple of fps more
I've taken two short videos of a label, took screenshots from video player, cropped them, resized the 480 to fit the same size as the 720 one. It's very blurry compared to the normal 720p. See the hour in the fake pda, you can't read it in the upscaled one.
Video upscalers tend to do a better job than a simple photo resize and they do introduce more data leading to a larger file size. The disire may truly just upscale the video after all. In any case, its a shame that video capture on this device is as poor as it is. I dislike Apple and their iphone, but i'll give them this; all aspects of the software work very well from go and if not, a fix/upgrade is provided in a reasonably short time.

Given the current state of their last shiny toy, I think it's a bit funny to say so.
Anyway, I've done some more tests and I can take the screen captured from a 480 video and upscale it with any tool with best quality or other algorythms and you always end up with a lot less detail than 720p, especially when there is a lot of light (unlike that test above). I don't think the desire has the processing power to do a better upscale than what I'm trying and while there might be a bit of upscaling given you have a tiny lens, it's not all there.
Also any tiny lens without zoom is pointless when taking videos from the distance anyway.
I can only get 15-16 fps... anyone can do higher?
I can easily get 25 average, outside in. good lighting, with a class 6 sd

I talked to some iPhone engineers about how the iPhone can archive 30Fps ... its because all the decoding of pictures delivered by the camera is handled by the GPU... for Android its all done on the CPU! so we need to find a way to decode the video stream using the Desires GPU, but I think the iP4's GPU is far better than the Desires... i am a hardware engineer... i am in no way able to code anything like that! What Makes me curios is file size comparison between an iP4 and the Desire.
Also: Desire running a non sense rom (AOSP) just like the Nexus gives much better 720 Quality!!! so I guess its in the software

SInce I am NEITHER a hardware nor software engineer, I am useless here, other than to ask obvious questions. Your apple access to methodology of iP4's video capture is itself useful information -- something that if I were a software engineer working on the various test projects here at XDA, I would want to know. Maybe that's something they could infer, or maybe its published somewhere, or maybe it's one of those "Geez, it's so obvious do i really need to be told that?" points.
That then gets blurred and muddied by the REAL armchair knowitalls (*I* disclose that I know nothing) who pounce on a pronouncement by someone here and say "That's impossible, or that's bullcrap, look here at my image, it proves you wrong, end of story" -- only to often find --- NOT end of story and that person got it wrong.
All i know is -- my experience has told me never presume -- because this site is SO HUGE, it is actually quite often that the right hand doesn't know what left hand is up to.
I wish there were a better means of coordinating the total knowledge holders of XDA site on this 720p issue regarding TOTAL CAPABILITY, software and hardware, so there is 100% collaboration. In the end, there is only one answer: Yes, desire can meet or exceed iphone4 720 p in every measure of resolution, or not.
THE PART I DIDN"T GET:

Which is bigger? what is your initial inference? larger file size = higher rez?
thank you
roufianos cooked a Rom that achieved 29-30 fps but the phone restarted after 50 seconds of recording. Was that due to overheating of the processor? I don't know. His phone gave up spirit and he is waiting for a replacement so the development of his Rom is on pause at the moment.

I've not seen more than 23fps in 720p with great lighting. anyone else? I use a Class2 card so maybe using class 6 is why you get 25fps average?

Ive managed 26fps @ 720p with my Desire running official unbranded 2.2. Im using a Class 4 card, so that might help over your Class 2.

I just compared the youtube clip to the original on my PC (i scaled the VLC window down to the same size as playing the youtube clip in its 'expanded' size) and there is definatly a small quality difference. The details on the original are noticable finer, so even @ 720p on youtube the bitrate must take a small hit.
Here is a screenshot of the comparison.

Very nice for the price. It's not well supported though.
I bought the device in January and was happy when it arrived in April. I had the box setup and it ran very smooth on multiple streaming apps. The Airmouse works well too. However, an OTA update caused the box to reset and now it will not detect the internet during the initial setup. I've tried everything but it doesn't seem to work. I'm about to try to explore the filesystem, but I cannot find the original firmware anywhere online. When I contacted customer support, they ran through very basic troubleshooting steps and then told me to send the box back to them. They offered to troubleshoot the device and repair/replace it if there were any issues. Since I waited three months for the box to arrive, I think I would rather play with the box myself than to return it and wait 4-5 months for another box to be sent. Overall, I think the box was an excellent deal, but there is no documentation online for the device, other than youtube videos and advertisements that tell how great the device is. Initial setup is a breeze, but without a copy of the original firmware, I'm up a creek without a paddle. Good luck!
I have had the sky stream 3 plus for over a year now. I bought it because there was so much good hype about it and so many promises of up to date firmware and the such.
So far there have been no updates at all. Do a search in these forums and you will actually find a post from one of the owners asking for someone to develop a firmware for them.
This the 3 plus is pretty much an X96 Max replica. Just different stickers and stamps on the outside.
I have contacted their tech support before and they are pretty much useless. If you join the Elite-mods FB page (best streaming box ever) all you will get is that you shouldn't do this or that. The mods will tell you that everything is user error and to "not overthink things". Not very good support if you ask me .
They pretty much state that you should never, ever do a factory reset. I did just to see what would happen. Well. The box still works but the reinstalled firmware and apps don't work as they should anymore. Magisk doesn't reinstall. Play store will not install. There are work around but support more or less says oh well. We told you.
I wouldn't recommend anything from this company. You can buy the exact same product for half the price from other companies.
After all it is just a Chinese box with slight different firmware.
Pretty crazy to see 8k video from this, does anyone actually have an 8k device actually capable of testing it?
Too bad not much support...
Skystream pro 8K
Just ordered one of these 8k pro from US have to wait on shipping to UK but will post an honest review when it lands guys :good:
I've had numerous Android boxes, firesticks 4k and 2nd gens.
I've done a lot of modifying cheap Chinese boxes, adding cooling, kernel tuning firmware switches and ports.
So we'll see what happens with this hyped up skystream Amlogic device, with android 9 pie.
Not holding my breath though as not many will be willing to pay that cash for a brick.
Regards

I have two of these boxes that I just bought and they are going back. Skystream lies to their customers constantly, like telling me the boxes were "kind of rooted", whatever that means. It looks like they might be running some hacked version of Android TV but I can't confirm. I do know that the native Netflix and Prime app won't play 4k. If you ask them they'll tell you the boxes are rooted and can run any app, total lie. My advice is to stay as far away from Skystream and you can possibly get.
My advice is to stay away from this company https://www.skystreamx.com/ This company is just a total waste of money and time.
They took my money and did not send me the SkyStream PRO 8K Streaming Media Player which I purchased on 01/26/2021 with Subtotal: $124.99 Shipping: $20.00 Total: $144.99. I contacted them many times and here is the chat:
First Email on Mar 2, 2021 I wrote: Hi there, I hope you are doing well. Is there any update about my purchase? Thank you.
They reply on Mar 5, 2021: Hello, we are still awaiting our manufacturer to install the new WIFI chips to the 700+ boxes. As they are following CDC guidelines - production has been a bit slower. We are expecting this to be completed by Monday and begin being shipped to us by Tuesday or Wednesday. Once our shipment has arrived, we will keep you updated and let you know a tracking number for your order. ETA One to two weeks at this time.
Second Email on Mar 16, 2021 I wrote: hi. how long does shipping take to be arrived to you? Thanks
They reply on Mar 17, 2021: Hello, our shipping department is fulfilling orders in chronological order, orders will be going out this week and next week as well. You should retrieve tracking information as soon as it's shipped. Thank you,
Third Email on April 10, 2021 I wrote: Any updates? Thanks
They did not reply.
Fourth Email on April 14, 2021 I wrote: Hi. You took long time?? And you did not reply my previous email!! please send me back my money if you don't have my product shipped.
They did not reply.
After two hours I decided to open a live chat via their website and here this is their reply: Your order will be shipping out either tomorrow or Friday. Once your order ships you will receive an email with tracking information.
Till today April 20, 2021 I did not get any notification about my product being shipped so I opened a live chat with them, first time they disconnected me and second time they keep the chat window open and connected but without replying all my questions at all after one hour I closed the chat window.
On April 22, 2021, I sent them two emails asking them to send me back my money and today on May 2, 2021 I got my money back.
I do not recommend this company at all to anyone, plus their videos on YouTube is comments disabled which reflect a reason of them being afraid of expecting a lot of bad press.
After updates I no longer have a home screen, Its just blank. Anyone know how th reset the box?. I have been waiting for ss to return my email for 3 days. Need to find a fix/cure

Google’s latest social play to advertise the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro is quite elaborate and involves the creation of a themed tarot card deck, as well as AR filters on Instagram.
Most people will get a kick out of the “tARot randomizer” selfie filter on Instagram that, per Google, “correlates #Pixel6 features to the 22 Major Arcana cards in a Tarot deck.”
The Fool: Ultra wide camera
The Magician: Magic eraser
The High Priestess: Material you
The Empress: Portrait mode
The Emperor: Durable display
It’s fun, whimsical, and meant for sharing, while “giving insight into your future (and your phone).” Google accompanied the filter with a 93-page Google Slides presentation explaining the history of Tarot, reading cards, and how to share on social media.
The presentation also includes 78 cards designed by someone at the company (or commissioned). They’re split between the aforementioned Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana. All 78 cards have accompanying meanings, and the presentation provides a simplified guide on “How to read Tarot” on page five.
Meanwhile, a second AR experience on Instagram, #TeamPixel card filter, animates the 22 Major Arcana cards when you point your phone at one. A close reading of the page implies that Google created a physical Pixel 6 “tARot deck box” complete with QR code to launch the effect on Instagram, as well as all the cards for manual shuffling. In lieu of that, you can point your phone to the screen, or even print out the entire slide and cut the cards out.

That's one cool card deck!
Ah, Google... Never miss an opportunity to inject social engineering into an otherwise inapplicable experience.
