Hi guys, I'm sure this type of question has been beat to death, but mine is a bit more specific. If I'm not mistaken, different radios will have different performances on different cellphone carrier networks, the one in question here is Rogers Wireless in Canada which I'm on.
I am currently using 1.00.25.05 which I read is pretty good in terms of battery life and everything else. However I'm not too content with this radio because it seems like I've experience a lot more dropped calls since switching to this radio. So my question is, which one is the best for the Rogers network? For me, best means excellent reception and battery life. Thanks in advance.
i have tried all of the latest ones but best by far has been:
1.09.25.23
it does depend on the ROM as well I think and maybe this should have been posted in radio thread
I find 1.09.25.23 to work very well too...I'm in Toronto. Signal is a little inconsistent in some parts of my house...but that's to be expected with lots of new condo buildings popping up in the area...I assume those buildings are affecting signal from the radio towers. Battery life is decent considering I am using the 1000mah Seideo...get's through a full day most of the time with my level of use...4-8 text messages...and about an hour voice.
To me, I tried many recent radio up to 1.12.xx, but I still find that 1.00.25.06 (the default Rogers radio) is the best in terms of reception bars Battery is decent as well.

Toronto area? Also...which ROM? Recently, I've had trouble holding signal with 1.00.25.06 and am not sure why.
I am in Toronto and have never really had a problem with default one either. Maybe I don't know what I am missing but since I have never really had a problem with it I have never changed it. So I am using 1.00.25.06 with the latest Energy ROM.
I just came back from a cruise to Alaska. 1.14. worked very well for me the whole trip. From San Francisco to Alaska then to Victoria. GPS pick up was very quick and phone reception was great even off shore.

Yes...I too realize this stuff could be posted in the radio thread...but consider that on this thread we have Roger's Wireless customers; unless it's not good thing to have a carrier-oriented thread. I understood that radio performance (signal and battery) is most likely influenced by carrier and location. It's difficult in the main radio thread to determine who is a Roger's customer. My 2 cents...
1.00.25.06
I am using the factory radio .. and I have never faced any problems with my calls, reception or GPS (somewhat)....
With GPS there have been times when the fix was delayed by 3-4 minutes. But everything else ... OK
I am sure some members would be able to shed some more light on the perfect combination of ROM + RADIO

I have been using Dutty's 3.6b and 4.0 for the longest time. Recently I have been trying EnergyRom 3, Gen.Y 1.2x, and Shaks 4.3. Not sure if it is ROM related, the signal bar at work is 1 bar less now. Though, it's still going pretty strong. I may try other radio with these new ROMs.

To me it seems the same as 1.12.25.16...one thing i did kinda notice is my device getting a little hot (when using opera, as well as after a soft reset)...not sure if that is a result of the radio or the flashing i have been doin lately...will test a little longer
I've been using 1.00.25.05 but have notice loss of service in areas where I previously had service. I'm going back to the default Rogers radio of 1.00.25.06

Ok, I've tried a few ROMs, and am currently using Helmi's AKU3.5 v1.3.1, which I think is great, apart from the fact I'm not enjoying great stability on the phone front with either radio ROM v1.14.x and v1.13.
I know that the latest O2 ROM wasn't 100% stable on the phone front, so I know I can't expect miracles, but are people experiencing good stability with any of the AKU3.2/3.3 ROMs or the latest Helmi WM6 ROM? I have already tried one of the WM6 ROMs (Infadel) and didn't find that very stable at all.
Just to be clear, stability issues on the phone front, from my point of view are:
1. Ability to pick up a call without it automatically dropping the call.
2. Good GPRS/3G connectivity, with stable cell handover.
3. Ability to start/stop the phone service predictably.
If people are using a new ROM combination that aren't experiencing those issues, then please let me know.
Cheers,
Steve.
What you ask is also highly dependant on your operator.
On Orange, my device drops data connections, and sometimes requires a soft reset to get it back, on t-mobile, it is almost totally reliable.
Waiting for my replacement "3" SIM to see what that's like.

Ok, that's a promising start for me, as I'm running on T-Mobile. So what combination of OS and Radio ROMs are you running?
Cheers,
Steve.
I recently upgraded from a BA to a Uni & was dissapointed with the radio coverage. I live in a patchy area for reception but was finding my Uni was dropping signal where my BA would work OK.
After playing around with lots of radio roms I found 1.09 to work best for me on Vodafone UK. I found anything newer than that much too 'twitchy' and would scan for network all the time.
I think you just need to play around and see what happens.....
(BTW I'm running a stock AKU2 rom with an empty extrom. Had a quick play with CB & AKU3.x, but I want stabability rather than features).

I agree that the actual radio hardware in the phone is pants - very frequently get no signal where other phones on the same network (I can even swap my SIM) get signal, no problem. I guess you've just got to accept that the Universal is a hybrid, and it's more of a PDA than it is a good phone, but I still love it...
I'm considering returning to an AKU2 ROM, but would love to have similar stability with a newer ROM.
Cheers,
Steve.

have a look on my signature below, my history of radio and why did I choose it.
Newest Hermes radio versions 1.54.30.10
Is good...
What you gotta remember is that how well the radio rom works is dependant on your carrier. I can suggest 154.30.10 for Australia cos thats what the telstra network promotes but that may have serious issues with someone from another part of the world causing SHORT battery life, cutout in signal and may cause the "No GSM" error if continued to be used. Check around to see what other people from your area are using and that may be best, even if it is an older radio. This part of the phone is probabaly the most touchy and if you do have a problem (from what I've read) you will probably be looking at a brick. PDA will still work but phone is useless. Upgrade at own risk. Cheers.

Yeh absolutely right !!!
i have 1.54.30.1 is the wifi affect by radio version, this one seems to kill the battery in an hour so
currently use 1.54.30.1 and phone can last a day easily, though generally specking 1.47 - 1.48 lasts longer, will be changing mine soon enough.
Go to here for discussion on signal strengths/battery lifes etc
Connectivity using 1.54.30.10 is great in Switzerland but batterry life is less than 24hours.
Here's a thread where they tested the different radios:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358933
And here's the link to the 1.47.30.10 radio rom thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326995) which I've been using with good results on ATT for both voice and data connectivity as well as improved battery life:
flipping though the ultimate radio list, most replies were out of the US and those that were, only 1 was with AT&T and that 1 user has a custom ROM.
how many AT&T users do we have here?? don't tell me 2. I am interested in the 25.23 since it's fast but eats up battery life which i can live with since a charger is always nearby for me.
any other radios AT&T users here are running off of? thanks!
I am on AT&T in New Orleans, LA. I am using 1.09.25.23 and have been satisfied with it. It does use a bit more battery than the stock radio I was on, but overall I have been satisfied. I am able to get signal in almost every place, which is saying a lot since I am a med student, and most phones drop signal as you walk in the hospital.

wow, that's great to hear. i'm trying to flash it but i'm stuck at 0% with the 262 error.
gonna investigate and get this radio rom working; i really need something that has better/faster gps reception as well as getting a signal though what i have now, 25.08 isn't *that* bad when it comes to calls/data.
I have AT&T in FL and I've been using Radio 1.15.25.14 with the same Rilphone...battery life is great, I typically get 36-48 hours with pretty heavy use (calls, text, email, facebook, internet, playing...) I've had no problems with call quality or anything. Don't know if there's a better radio, but this one has been working great for me. Not sure about the speed of the GPS, although with "my location" in the weather tab, it tends to find me quickly...hope that helps.
Interesting Andrew I might have to give that a try. I was pretty happy with my radio, but it has been draing pretty quick with yoz's new rom. How are you liking Benko's rom? I had it, but not the 5.0, previous versions were a little buggy for me.
As far as the gps for my rom, gps takes a while the first time I boot it up after a rom instal, but after than, I am able to get a lock in under 30 secs usually. I do use quick gps, so not sure if that makes a difference.
sumtin wong.... i can't flash anything. i can't even put in a hard-spl (any version) on my phone to change the radio.

I'm not too far from you, up in Fruitland Park, just north of Leesburg...
As far as changing the radio, there's some good stickies on how to do that, as well as upgrading ROM, and I'm not qualified enough to try to explain it...
Recommendations on ROMs: from what I've found, ALL of them have some things you'll like, and some things that you won't...it's a matter of trying out a bunch til you find the one that suits you. I've been switching on a regular basis just to find the nonexistant perfect ROM. My thoughts: Benko's are real nice, stable, and functional. I'm downloading 5.8 now, so we'll see. Couldn't use 5.7 b/c of email issues. NRG's are the best looking, but RAM issues are a consistant problem. SUN Y RC1 is my current, but I've been having some weird issues, and I like WM 6.5 or 6.5.1 better than 6.1...
Again, just my two cents, try some out and see what you like...but be careful, it's addicting

One of the links for the 1.15 radio is in post 773...FYI, I don't mind sharing the info, but there are some people on here that will yell at you for not searching...just type in diamond radio 1.15 in the search to find more info. (I actually had to do that to re-find the radio).
@apple, I have hardspl 1.40 as well, that's all you need, just make sure you've read all the flashing info ahead of time so you don't brick you're phone.

Hi Guys,
I'm in SF Bay Area using AT&T, have been using 1.00.25.16 on my DIAM100 (Diamond from UK). One thing I'm frustrated with newer radios (those ones other than 1.00.25.*) is I couldn't get 850MHz band to work on my Diamond. With my current radio, signal quality is fair and battery lasts only about a day.
Can anyone please try to identify if your are on the AT&T 850MHz band.
What I need to know is:
1. Your Diamond Version: DIAM??? or just US Diamond, or EU Diamond
2. Your Radio Version:
2. the "Band" from the HTC Field Test: can be PCS or 850
To invoke the HTC Field Test, just dial
*#*#364#*#*
Some chefs removed this utility from their ROM, but you can always get it from the following thread.

im using 1.00.08.25 in Indiana, i tried the newest 1.17 but it didn't work out to well around here.
battery life is great, usually 2-3 days with normal use (text/call and internet browsing occasionally) gps speed is good, kinda has a tendency to lag about half a block behind my actual position, but i think most of them are like that.
My signal is pretty bad and my wifi is too but I only deal with roms, not radios and people are constantly updating their radios. You might do. Make a note of your current radio so you can go back if things get worse. Try the latest one for starters and see what results you get. You can Flash Radios from your SD Card and not lose any data. I used to keep all the Kaiser ones on my phone and keep flashing until I found a good one.
What radio is best for you? Well, there is no answer I can give. It depends on where you live, on what network, and what ROM you're using. From what I've read, latest is best (I'm not on the latest yet, but when mine was the latest it was the best I'd tried).

ALWAYS flash a new ROM, just search for the newest Radios in this TOUCH PRO2/TILT forum or the wiki. There are always newer updated radios. It takes minutes to flash a new radio from start to finish. THIS CANNOT BRICK YOUR PHONE!!
So, experiment. I did and found 2 radios that were better than a stock radio. I went from 2 bars in good areas and 1 bar in bad ones to 4 bars in good areas and 2-3 bars in the bad areas. It just depends on your region and carrier.
Check my sig for the radio I am using. It seems to work the best for T-Mobile, my gps, wi-fi, and phone signal dramatically improved after flashing a new radio. So, trust me, spend the time to flash a new radio and you'll most definitely see a difference from the stock radio. Let me know how this works out.

No, but if you flash untested radios you can have problems unless your device is security unlocked. Some buggy radios cannot be removed, and if they are poor quality, you're in a world of pain .
Moral of the story, always read the feedback, and don't flash untested radios unless you know and understand the risks .
Dave
I went from having No signal in the back corner of my first floor apartment to 1-2 bar 3G Thanks! (No sarcasam intended)
What radio did you flash? I have T-Mobile and only get 2 to 0 3G bars at work. It is really interfering with my music streaming. Would love to get mor bars.

Just search this Touch Pro 2 forum or the Rhodium wiki here and you will find all the radios available for download. If you use T-Mobile, the one in my signature below is the best I found and apparently Gabe here too! So just search, it only takes a couple minutes.
Hi guys
Recently decided to give my phone and new lease of life and update it from CM 7.2. I went with the ViperDHD rom and am very impressed with it. The only issue I had was that the GPS wasnt working so I went ahead and flashed a new radio, I have had to do this before as I had the same issue with CM 7.2.
I took the latest radio Radio 12.69.60.29_26.17.14.11_M from HERE and had mixed results. I started a logger and average around -85dBm to -95dBm which I was not impressed with considering it appeared to be much better on the previous one. Here is where the fun part starts, I didnt make a note of what radio I was on before updating, a big fail on my part, so I cannot just revert back!
I went ahead and flashed 12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19 from HERE with the thought in my mind that the latest version must surely be the best.....and the signal is pretty similar (poor).
I know flashing radio is more dangerous than a ROM so ideally id prefer not to keep flashing a new one each day to test.
Im currently on the giffgaff network which is a subsidiary of 02 (it uses hardware they provide) so if the 02 signal is good my giffgaff should be good (in theory anyway). Im based in the heart of Belfast (Northern Ireland) and the coverage checker online reports;
"Good indoors and outdoors. Good for mobile broadband"
coupled with the fact that I was impressed with it when I first flashed the rom im pretty certain its something I broke with the change of radio
I also understand that because I am on an ICS rom I dont need to flash RIL?
Does anyone have any feedback on what radio they recommend for the O2 network in the UK, at my wits end at a problem I caused lol!
Thanks
Rob

I also understand that because I am on an ICS rom I dont need to flash RIL?
Does anyone have any feedback on what radio they recommend for the O2 network in the UK, at my wits end at a problem I caused lol!
Thanks
Rob

Even though I'm in the US and my results probably won't help you in any shape or form. Your right about what you said about rils and ICS/jb... On another note, that first radio might of been 15.56.60 blank blank blank (can't remember the last section). Just look into the inspire radio thread and see which radio works for you....no need to press the thank button if any of my nonsense helped you

Im currently on the giffgaff network which is a subsidiary of 02 (it uses hardware they provide) so if the 02 signal is good my giffgaff should be good (in theory anyway). Im based in the heart of Belfast (Northern Ireland) and the coverage checker online reports;

Hi Rob
I'm new here too (& I'm in BELFAST too!)
I'm not sure of how we're meant to communicate here but I think our problems overlap quite a bit.
I've included a link to my recent post below.

Please have a look.
Have you made any progress?

Hi there
Small world isnt it!
I actually didnt have any joy, well the joy was signal sometimes and other times nothing in the same location. In the end I rolled back to a Gingerbread rom (Android Revolution) and flashed the radio they recommend and have had much better results.

Well, when I say better, the best I can expect given we are in Belfast (no-one cares about N.Ireland in general lol). Cant comment on Orange coverage though....
Im of the same nature you are, dont need bells and whistles, just want it to work and so far im getting that with the Rom above (and recommended radio...12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M)
Good luck!
Rob
I used to be a fellow giffgaff, it didn't matter what i did to the radio via flashing this that and the other i still had poor signal if i was lucky. In the end i ditched Giffgaff and went to orange and i haven't had a signal issue at all.
Giffgaff made itself a success but forgot about the huge amount of traffic on the network. A few of my mates have done the same and ditched Giffgaff.

Are you in a populated area in Wales? Although im in the capital city (Belfast) we can always expect much less than other capitals, we are nothing (even with capital status) compared to citys on the main land.
Rural (~10 miles from a town) over here you can forget consistent signal! Interesting about the bandwidth, never had crossed my mind, doubt the network would release any figures for us though!

Nope i am in a place not far from Todmorden which was the first place to get ADSL enabled and now last to even get fiber broadband.
Where i live i only has a 2G signal for most networks only EE networks supplies a 3G signal so i understand where your coming from mate.
Its the same in most rual area. Also i know you asked about Wales, I only have the welsh flag as i am welsh born.
