Ok, I've tried a few ROMs, and am currently using Helmi's AKU3.5 v1.3.1, which I think is great, apart from the fact I'm not enjoying great stability on the phone front with either radio ROM v1.14.x and v1.13.
I know that the latest O2 ROM wasn't 100% stable on the phone front, so I know I can't expect miracles, but are people experiencing good stability with any of the AKU3.2/3.3 ROMs or the latest Helmi WM6 ROM? I have already tried one of the WM6 ROMs (Infadel) and didn't find that very stable at all.
Just to be clear, stability issues on the phone front, from my point of view are:
1. Ability to pick up a call without it automatically dropping the call.
2. Good GPRS/3G connectivity, with stable cell handover.
3. Ability to start/stop the phone service predictably.
If people are using a new ROM combination that aren't experiencing those issues, then please let me know.
Cheers,
Steve.
What you ask is also highly dependant on your operator.
On Orange, my device drops data connections, and sometimes requires a soft reset to get it back, on t-mobile, it is almost totally reliable.
Waiting for my replacement "3" SIM to see what that's like.

Ok, that's a promising start for me, as I'm running on T-Mobile. So what combination of OS and Radio ROMs are you running?
Cheers,
Steve.
I recently upgraded from a BA to a Uni & was dissapointed with the radio coverage. I live in a patchy area for reception but was finding my Uni was dropping signal where my BA would work OK.
After playing around with lots of radio roms I found 1.09 to work best for me on Vodafone UK. I found anything newer than that much too 'twitchy' and would scan for network all the time.
I think you just need to play around and see what happens.....
(BTW I'm running a stock AKU2 rom with an empty extrom. Had a quick play with CB & AKU3.x, but I want stabability rather than features).

I agree that the actual radio hardware in the phone is pants - very frequently get no signal where other phones on the same network (I can even swap my SIM) get signal, no problem. I guess you've just got to accept that the Universal is a hybrid, and it's more of a PDA than it is a good phone, but I still love it...
I'm considering returning to an AKU2 ROM, but would love to have similar stability with a newer ROM.
Cheers,
Steve.

I have a Cingular 8525 that is almost great. The signal strength is consistently at no less than 3bars but usually at 4 bars; but when I try to make a call, sometimes it goes through, other times it reads operation failed...which in the latter case is immediately followed by the signal completely disappearing and searching. It will reconnect and then allow me to place calls immediately afterwards. I also have been receiving alot of voicemails with no missed/received calls, as well as a lot of people saying that my phone rings and rings. (I of course do not receive all of my calls). This is really irritating....I've tried different roms (WM5/WM6) as well as at least half a dozen different radio roms also. I got the phone off of ebay it says that it is unlocked (could this have something to do with it?) B/c I got it off of ebay it interferes with the cingular warranty. ANY helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cingy 8525 from eBay...
The fact that you received the phone from eBay has nothing to do with your issues... I am not the most knowledgeable person here, but I have had my fair share of bad reception... Have you tried flashing the Cingy Rom? It comes with the stock 1.40 radio... I have a TyTn that I received off of eBay with Cingy service and I have had the best performance with the 1.40 radio.. Of course, it also has to do with your location, etc... You haven't mentioned which roms you have tried and what problems you have experienced other than failing radio strength and missed calls... Granted, that is enough... Post your info from the device information applet in your 8525 and give us more information about your 8525... maybe then, some of the more senior and smarter peeps can help you out...
Or, you can always use the link in my signature to do a more thorough search of the forum... your answer is bound to be here somewhere...
Thanks for the quick reply. From my understanding by me purchasing on ebay it has something to do with a the warranty (should I want to go through an exchange through cingular).
(I knew I was forgetting something) My device information is as follows:
(currently WM5, I just wanted to see if it would help at all)
Rom Version : 1.34.502.1
Rom Date: 09/21/06
Radio Version: 1.40.30.00
Protocol version: 32.73.7020.16H
As far as the roms go, I have no other issues besides the radio. But I've tried, the latest 2 Cingular stocks as of today, Custel 2.5/2.0, Black 3.0 and 2, LVSW 3.3, the all have their own pro's/con's but thats another issue. I'd throw whatever works on here if I can get a properly working radio.
I have searched and seen other forums regarding this issue, but none have released a solution. Radios 1.34 and 1.40 work best, but the problem is still there unfortunately.
Hmmmm... Okay, well the radio rom is the important part... have you tried the 1.41 radio? I see that you are running a lower version of the Cingy Official Released Rom.... Currently at 2.5 something I think... if you search for Radio Rom 1.41 you should be able to find it... At this point, I would think that it may be a combination of items, but am sure that if one radio sux, then try another one... just be careful... since you are already flashing roms, I guess I don't have to tell you that...
radio problems with 8525
Yeah I tried 1.41, didnt work too well for me. I am comfortable flashing, my old siemens sx66 has been flashed more than bourbon st. I did try to latest cingular official, (which is where I got the 1.40 radio from).
afaik 140.30.00 is the cingular tuned radio ROM. it should work best. As far as ROM's go, it should not really influence the phone functions. imo, lvsw latest ROM is as stable as they get anyway.
Try setting your network type to GSM only, and set the band to your local frequency. what you describe often happens when the phone switches between GSM & WCDMA.
Ill try it, im guessing it (gsm selection) can be done through settings? Does this occur even if the phone is in the same room while it occurs?
Good point, I would not have thought of that since I leave mine on Auto all of the time... I had forgotten that I had similar issues with the 1.38 radio...

I have that same issue with my reception in Memphis, Tennessee. It only happens once or twice a day though. The way it was explained to me by Cingular is that "yes you do have great reception. But when the phone tries to call, there is not enough bandwidth to complete the call." The gist of the matter was that too many other people were clogging up the airwaves. Not sure if that was bull**** or not, but that is what I was told.
I just know that it will happen between 3 and 5 pm, when more people are on the phone while driving home. I think they put more towers up as it hasn;t happened in the past week or so.
Also, the warranty is given with the PHONE not to the BUYER. The warranty should be good no matter where you bought it or who you bought it from. That is for factory warranties, not extra warranties or service agreements.
Hope this helps,
Jim
The most common cause of this problem is that fact that you are in Edge and not 3G.. The problem is most likely being caused by the fact that a data connection while in Edge is connected, this can cause dialing issues and phone calls not being recieved.. This problem has gotten better with the latest cingy rom and 1.40 radio that is packaged with it.. what you are experiencing is normal, or has been for me in the cingy/att world, it has happened with both the hermes and wizard..
All great suggestions, I did notice the occurence has dropped when I turned off my data connection. However, even with selecting GSM only and the other suggestions, I unfortunately still experience this problem. I guess my concern now shifts to is this a problem with my phone or not. By that I mean, would swapping phones have any effect on this occurence. (Anybody in the Charleston, WV area?...yea right) NEways, I have 3 cell phones in my family talk plan, and this 8525 is my 3rd or 4th phone on this one line in the last 12 months, I did not experience this with ANY of my other phones, so I know that it is not an issue regarding bottlenecked towers...which I have experienced before in another state.
Just an FYI. My first 8525 exhibited this same behaviour. I found NO solution to it and had to do the exchange via Cing which unfourtunately is not an option here...
Hard resets, radios, nothing fixed the issue. It steadily degraded and I had to do the return.
Now on a side note I did drop the phone once. It was about a 10 inch fall onto our concrete garage floor. The phone showed no damage AT ALL, but shortly there after the radio started acting up. It seem that perhaps the SIM did not sit tightly in the holder and as the phone was used the cover pushed on the battery which might have push on the SIM.
Take a look at how tight the SIM card is making contact. If it is loose and can wiggle freely you may want to try to tighten it up a bit VERY carefully!!!!
Sorry I can't offer a more permanent fix or precise problem!!
Just an update, I never could get the problem fixed (as I had expected). Luckily, however, I was able to keep calling Cingulars warranty department and got ahold of someone who did agree that the warranty follows the phone irrespective of where I got it. Luckily the person who told me that I couldnt do am xchange didn't note in on the system, so that prevented future reps being "tainted". So I am currently running Black Dymond very happily on my now working 8525. Thanks to all for the suggestions, maybe someone buying from eBay later will take heed to be sure to get a phone under warranty and to be persistent! =) Did I mention VERY happily running wm6?
Hello, I just upgraded to official ROM 3.54.255.3 with Radio 1.48.00.10. It was absolutely useless. Phone was freezing very often, calls were lost in couple of seconds, but the timer continued to count and all looked like the call continues. It was not possible to finish it by red button or “End” button on display, just by Soft Reset.
I upgraded just Radio to 1.51.00.10. It’s better but still bad. I’m loosing calls, sometimes Internet connections falls down stating that modem was disconnected and than phone searches for signal again. Sometimes after reset Phone part doesn’t start and doesn’t require PIN. It’s necessary to reset couple of times or to remove battery and switch it on again.
Could someone please recommend me proved version of Radio ROM? I’m using in Czech Republic for O2 (former Eurotel) network.
Is it possible, that it’s HW problem? My TyNT felt down on the floor couple of times
THANK YOU ALL A LOT IN ADVANCE
TYTN in Serbia - same GSM radio problems!
Please is there any known stable version that works in third world countries?
TYTN is almost completely uselell with 1.41 radio in Serbia!
Even if it is old rom no problem! I'm willing to go back to wm5 if needed just to have good and stable GSM!
Is there any app capable of testing htc radio to see if it is hardware flow?
Please HELP!
i have the oficial rom instaled in english and everything works fine more faster and more stable
Downgraded radio to 1.47.00.10 yesterday evening, looks better, will post results this evening.
1.47.00.10 is what i've downgraded to.
1.50 and 1.48 were absolute crap for me in California.
1.47.00.10 is a great radio! no complaints at all so far
This discussion is useless - best radio depends on local network you are using. For me the best still is 1.38 (Plus GSM in Poland), but I know that in Era GSM people have no problem with 1.51.
So the best is to try all available version and check, which one works best in given country, network and region, not to mention if we are using GSM or 3G.
crap radios
Same problems with these radio and O2 in CZ
So I was testing 1.47.00.10 whole day. Another disaster, on the beginning of the they everything was fine, with every call received the behavior of TyNT was worst and worst. Sometimes SMS were send after second try. On the end of the day I was not able to receive calls not even leave them unanswered – every time TyNT frozes. After Soft Reset the booting white screen was showing NO GSM…
After Hard Reset everything works OK again, but I really do not want HR on daily basis So trying to find another Radio ROM for CZ O2
Same problems with radio 1.51.00.10 - O2 in CZ
ok
1.50.08 work perfect for me.
tested 5-6 radio versions in Serbia NO LUCK
AT the end I hope that unit is bad and that replacement with other one will help
Is it posible to be due to rom since I also am getting message NO GSM during BOOT and before windows. It looks to me that radio on mine device might be in some hardware problem?
Any suggestions?
Just uploaded 1.38.30.10. As always looks and works perfectly on beginning
i put RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship.exe ftom america.htc i think. it is complete rom with radio 1.40.30 and works best so far in seerbia but still with problems. At least it doesn't freez phone like other versions!
So tried 1.38.30.10, doesn‘t work as well. I changed ROM to Schaps_WM6Pro_WWE_3.57a_Lite_28-07.exe. Looks fine, but together with 1.38.30.10 doesn’t work. Upgraded Radio ROM to 1.50.00.00 which looks fine together, but still sometimes phone indicates “NO GSM”. Will test again during the day. If it will not work, it’s time to send it to service.
I’m already starting to looking forward to Nokia N95 that I will bought after loosing patience with TyNT.
tytn damaged
I would like to conclude that in my own opinion we are both stuc with bad units. Today i took another tytn and tested it with network in serbia and it worked fine. So changing rom doesn't help me. I have no option but to give it to be repaired.
Nokia is nice but it is different story if you ask me
HTC and windows is my choice!
Do yu thinking about changing radio on it (hardware)
All the best!
Ok
1.50.008 work excellent in my AT&T 8525 Hermes!!
IT LOOKS LIKE MY STORY HAS UNBELIAVEBLE HAPPY END which makes it may be most stupid story on this web. After trying 2 different ROMs and 6 different Radio ROMs I lost my patience and decided to go to service of HTC. So I exported most important contacts and uploaded them to my old Nokia 6280. In the morning I needed to send 2 SMSes and make one call. During this my NOKIA without any „smart“ OS restarted 2 times searching for signal. This phone was never problematic a never did that. So it indicated possible problem with SIM card. I went to O2 store and asked for new SIM. I got it in 5 minutes for free including switching all systems to new one. From this moment TyTN flashed to Official WM6 ROM 3.54 with radio 1.48.00.10 works without any problem and any single soft reset. I’m connected on 3G (UMTS/HSDPA) whole day and I lost connection only three times, but without problem to establish it again. I still expect, that the problem will come, but more it’s seems like that only problem was SIM card. The phone is more stable then ever before, so probably I had in some way corrupted SIM from beginning with O2… I will inform, if it keeps working.
Good for you
Me unfortunately, i wasn't that lucky. I replaced sim with new one 7 days ago and it didn't help
Enyoy your HTC!
150.00.00 and 148.00.00 works great in around Phoenix area AT&T
Hi guys, I'm sure this type of question has been beat to death, but mine is a bit more specific. If I'm not mistaken, different radios will have different performances on different cellphone carrier networks, the one in question here is Rogers Wireless in Canada which I'm on.
I am currently using 1.00.25.05 which I read is pretty good in terms of battery life and everything else. However I'm not too content with this radio because it seems like I've experience a lot more dropped calls since switching to this radio. So my question is, which one is the best for the Rogers network? For me, best means excellent reception and battery life. Thanks in advance.
i have tried all of the latest ones but best by far has been:
1.09.25.23
it does depend on the ROM as well I think and maybe this should have been posted in radio thread
I find 1.09.25.23 to work very well too...I'm in Toronto. Signal is a little inconsistent in some parts of my house...but that's to be expected with lots of new condo buildings popping up in the area...I assume those buildings are affecting signal from the radio towers. Battery life is decent considering I am using the 1000mah Seideo...get's through a full day most of the time with my level of use...4-8 text messages...and about an hour voice.
To me, I tried many recent radio up to 1.12.xx, but I still find that 1.00.25.06 (the default Rogers radio) is the best in terms of reception bars Battery is decent as well.

Toronto area? Also...which ROM? Recently, I've had trouble holding signal with 1.00.25.06 and am not sure why.
I am in Toronto and have never really had a problem with default one either. Maybe I don't know what I am missing but since I have never really had a problem with it I have never changed it. So I am using 1.00.25.06 with the latest Energy ROM.
I just came back from a cruise to Alaska. 1.14. worked very well for me the whole trip. From San Francisco to Alaska then to Victoria. GPS pick up was very quick and phone reception was great even off shore.

Yes...I too realize this stuff could be posted in the radio thread...but consider that on this thread we have Roger's Wireless customers; unless it's not good thing to have a carrier-oriented thread. I understood that radio performance (signal and battery) is most likely influenced by carrier and location. It's difficult in the main radio thread to determine who is a Roger's customer. My 2 cents...
1.00.25.06
I am using the factory radio .. and I have never faced any problems with my calls, reception or GPS (somewhat)....
With GPS there have been times when the fix was delayed by 3-4 minutes. But everything else ... OK
I am sure some members would be able to shed some more light on the perfect combination of ROM + RADIO

I have been using Dutty's 3.6b and 4.0 for the longest time. Recently I have been trying EnergyRom 3, Gen.Y 1.2x, and Shaks 4.3. Not sure if it is ROM related, the signal bar at work is 1 bar less now. Though, it's still going pretty strong. I may try other radio with these new ROMs.

To me it seems the same as 1.12.25.16...one thing i did kinda notice is my device getting a little hot (when using opera, as well as after a soft reset)...not sure if that is a result of the radio or the flashing i have been doin lately...will test a little longer
I've been using 1.00.25.05 but have notice loss of service in areas where I previously had service. I'm going back to the default Rogers radio of 1.00.25.06
I am the (otherwise) happy owner of a Tmobile Touch Pro 2 running the official WM 6.5 update. The phone has been running fine since I purchased it last September.
Last week, the phone started behaving strangely and I fear that something might be wrong hardware-wise.
The phone loses connection (both phone and data) periodically, especially if I am moving around. Sometimes, if I soft-reset the phone, it will connect again. For example, I walk half a mile, the phone looses connection, sometimes looks like is trying to re-connect, sometimes it even shows the connection symbol (without the E or 3G superscript) but it will not make/receive calls nor navigate the internet. as I said, sometimes a soft-reset will regain connection.
Originally, I thought that it might be a problem with the coverage in the NYC area and northern suburbs. But my wife's Tmo G1 runs perfectly under the same conditions.
I have done, everything I could think of, including performing a hard reset a few days ago. Should I just take it to assistance? Is this a known problem? Does it sound like a problem with the sim-card? Any settings that I can try?
I would appreciate any help/suggestion. I hope that I did not post this in the wrong forum, in which case I apologize.
Thanks everybody

The 6.5 ROM from T-mobile uses a different radio than the 6.1 ROM you had before, and the reception can be affected as a result...some users have reported that it makes it better, some have reported that it makes it worse.
You have the ability to switch the radio back to the 6.1 version, or several others that are available as well. Instructions, along with a list of available radios is on THIS thread.
The radio that's in your 6.5 ROM is the one on that list that ends in .57
The one that was in your 6.1 ROM is the one that ends in .14
I've heard that other T-mobile users have had luck in CA with the one that ends in .17
Read the instructions there thoroughly, then read 'em again
Good luck!
Thanks Sirphunkee.
This is great advice. Yet I have never flashed a ROM and the risk would be too high to transform my rhodium into an expensive paperweight.
I guess I will have to live with this problem at least until I am eligible for a phone upgrade, which would reduce the injury in case of a fatal outcome. ;(
If any remedy ever becomes available in the form of an idiot-proof .cab, I'd be glad if someone give me a head-up.
Thank you very much again
I have managed to revert the radio ROM to its prior version (ending in .14)
It looks like things are back to normal. One more question, the list of the Rhodium radio ROMs indicates in parentheses that some ROMs are T-Mobile, other HTC etc..
Does it mean that
1. those listed as Tmobile ROMs are stock Tmobile radio roms? OR that
2. those are the only ROMs that will work on Tmobile RHodium?
OR all of the above.
I would like to try some other radio ROMS to see if reception can be further improved but would not want to make damages installing the wrong one.
Thanks,
Hi guys
Recently decided to give my phone and new lease of life and update it from CM 7.2. I went with the ViperDHD rom and am very impressed with it. The only issue I had was that the GPS wasnt working so I went ahead and flashed a new radio, I have had to do this before as I had the same issue with CM 7.2.
I took the latest radio Radio 12.69.60.29_26.17.14.11_M from HERE and had mixed results. I started a logger and average around -85dBm to -95dBm which I was not impressed with considering it appeared to be much better on the previous one. Here is where the fun part starts, I didnt make a note of what radio I was on before updating, a big fail on my part, so I cannot just revert back!
I went ahead and flashed 12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19 from HERE with the thought in my mind that the latest version must surely be the best.....and the signal is pretty similar (poor).
I know flashing radio is more dangerous than a ROM so ideally id prefer not to keep flashing a new one each day to test.
Im currently on the giffgaff network which is a subsidiary of 02 (it uses hardware they provide) so if the 02 signal is good my giffgaff should be good (in theory anyway). Im based in the heart of Belfast (Northern Ireland) and the coverage checker online reports;
"Good indoors and outdoors. Good for mobile broadband"
coupled with the fact that I was impressed with it when I first flashed the rom im pretty certain its something I broke with the change of radio
I also understand that because I am on an ICS rom I dont need to flash RIL?
Does anyone have any feedback on what radio they recommend for the O2 network in the UK, at my wits end at a problem I caused lol!
Thanks
Rob

Even though I'm in the US and my results probably won't help you in any shape or form. Your right about what you said about rils and ICS/jb... On another note, that first radio might of been 15.56.60 blank blank blank (can't remember the last section). Just look into the inspire radio thread and see which radio works for you....no need to press the thank button if any of my nonsense helped you

Im currently on the giffgaff network which is a subsidiary of 02 (it uses hardware they provide) so if the 02 signal is good my giffgaff should be good (in theory anyway). Im based in the heart of Belfast (Northern Ireland) and the coverage checker online reports;
Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob
I'm new here too (& I'm in BELFAST too!)
I'm not sure of how we're meant to communicate here but I think our problems overlap quite a bit.
I've included a link to my recent post below.

Please have a look.
Have you made any progress?

Hi there
Small world isnt it!
I actually didnt have any joy, well the joy was signal sometimes and other times nothing in the same location. In the end I rolled back to a Gingerbread rom (Android Revolution) and flashed the radio they recommend and have had much better results.

Well, when I say better, the best I can expect given we are in Belfast (no-one cares about N.Ireland in general lol). Cant comment on Orange coverage though....
Im of the same nature you are, dont need bells and whistles, just want it to work and so far im getting that with the Rom above (and recommended radio...12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M)
Good luck!
Rob
I used to be a fellow giffgaff, it didn't matter what i did to the radio via flashing this that and the other i still had poor signal if i was lucky. In the end i ditched Giffgaff and went to orange and i haven't had a signal issue at all.
Giffgaff made itself a success but forgot about the huge amount of traffic on the network. A few of my mates have done the same and ditched Giffgaff.

Are you in a populated area in Wales? Although im in the capital city (Belfast) we can always expect much less than other capitals, we are nothing (even with capital status) compared to citys on the main land.
Rural (~10 miles from a town) over here you can forget consistent signal! Interesting about the bandwidth, never had crossed my mind, doubt the network would release any figures for us though!

Nope i am in a place not far from Todmorden which was the first place to get ADSL enabled and now last to even get fiber broadband.
Where i live i only has a 2G signal for most networks only EE networks supplies a 3G signal so i understand where your coming from mate.
Its the same in most rual area. Also i know you asked about Wales, I only have the welsh flag as i am welsh born.
