Charging an iPAQ h5150 Battery - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hello
I have an iPAQ h5150 that has a damaged connector so I can't plug it in to charge it. It works OK otherwise. I have the charger with the male post connector and would like to solder in some wires and a female connector (e.g. from Radio Shack) just so I can charge it. Does anyone have information of how I can wire this thing up to do this. Alternatively, does anyone know how to charge the battery externally? There's 5 pins on the Battery that connects to the iPAQ, and I would like to know how I can apply the charger's output to the battery to charge it up. ANy schematic diagram availble would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

Is the charger terminals on the cradle damaged, or the slot in the Ipaq itself?
You can buy charging tips that fit this model on ebay for about $9.00, that slide over the barrel plug on the ac adapter. If the charging slot is ok you could charge that way.

Cradle charger with AC adapter doesn't work

Hi,
Just purchased a cradle for the universal which has a USB and an AC adapter connection.
The USB works fine for charging the Universal.
The AC Adapter connection on the other hand doesn't charge the PDA at all.
I thought I remember reading something concerning a fix for this but can't seem to find the post for it.
Any body got the solution for it or do I have a faulty cradle?
Thanks.
I would change usb cable

Did you ever find a solution to this?, I have the desktop charger jobby. The grey one that looks like a docking station. It has an ac adapter and a usb out on it .. but like you the charger doesn't seem to work.
p.s its the one with the stylus that stands up straight at the back.
Nope.....
Never found a solution for it.
Dam...
Does your original jasjar/xda exec charger work? mine doesn't.. only my 5v dc 550ma motorola charger works ... oh and the usb direct cable works..
Does you pda charge while sat in the cradle with just the usb attached?
Here's what I have working:
FYI, I have the Qtek 9000.
Original Power Charger - working
Aftermarket Car Adapter charger from Proclip - working
Aftermarket Desktop Charger (AC powered) - NOT working
Aftermarket Desktop USB plug - working
Aftermarket USB cables - working (at least the ones I've tried = 3)
Joe,
I remember reading that you should be careful of what you plug in to power up your HTC-Universal because the voltage needs to be regulated.
Also, don't even go buy those Alkaline battery powered travel charger - they don't work. I even tried with a 9V Altoid Tin Battery Charger (with the required 5V USB regulator) and it didn't work.
I just gave up and carry 2 batteries with me. Planning on getting a bigger battery later on.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply,
Just checked on the web and the moto charger is regulated so it should be fine to use, I was thinking that my original charger may be buggered but because my new desktop charger doesn't work either I don't know what it could be. I'll need to try my cradle with just the usb attached tonight and see if it charges... if it does thats ok .. I can live with that.
My Cradle has a built in usb cable for the pc and a separate dc in socket for the wall adapter so unless it switches between the two i'm thinking that maybe the pins for charging are hardwired to the wall adapter and the data to the pc so it will only charge from the wall and not from the pc..
Maybe I shouldn't have bought such a cheap one
Joe,
I believe I might have the same cradle as you do.
I've open up the cradle to see how the connection is soldered and the points for the ground and powered seemed soldered into the USB port correctly.
I do remember reading something concerning the pins for the USB are wired differently (last 2 pins are shorted - on the Universal-wiki I think) for powered USB charge. Maybe that's why the cradle AC charger doesn't work while the USB cable works.
FYI, I've tried putting both the AC and the USB and you'll find that having the AC in is useless....you're just wasting electricity cos the PDA is still being charged by the cable (just turn off you PC and you'll find that the PDA is not charging).
Does your cradle have the annoying blue LED?
I think all aftermarket cradles are created equal = "CRAP"
If somebody out there have a cradle that have AC that works, please post where you bought it so that others will know which one to get.

Sounds like I have the same cradle as you fella , I've tried the usb on its own and it seems to charge ok .. I tested it by putting a movie on and leaving it plugged in, started at 67% its now 77% so its charging through the usb.. dam it .. I could probably send the cradle back since I wanted it mainly for AC charging. Wish there was another one I could get that worked!
Thinking of getting this one instead:

What dya think?
joe....
According to this guy on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1097137&posted=1#post1097137
his is working just fine.
If you can return it for another one, maybe you'll get one that's working properly.
i'm thinking maybe we have pda's from the same manufacture date.. and the hardware revisions are different and thats why our desktop chargers dont work, surely its not coincidence that both of ours dont work?
And if thats the case getting another of the same won't do much good.. theres just no way to be sure about any of this, think I may just send it back and try a different one entirely
Joe,
Good luck!

Help Can't charge!!

My himalaya has stopped charging through the cradle or car charger. It syncs and charges through the usb and my wired sat nav connects up but neither method charges my phone anymore. Obviously the battery will die down quick when I use my tom tom so I need that to work and only being able to charge via usb is a pain and inconvienient.
What can I do to fix it??
What kind of charging connector your PDA has? ie. my universal has a mini usb, it is used to charge/sync, it can be done at the same time, on the contrary an old Ipaq (series H38XX & H39XX) had two different ways for power to arrive to the PDA, this means that you could charge it with its charger or via usb while syncing or just charge via usb.
Why am I asking this?
In this way I'm trying to understand if you could have a problem with a connector/cable (different connector for charging with the craddle/car charger and usb charging) or you could have other problems.
If it's possible for you, take some pictures of your pda's syncing and/or charging connector, to your craddle, car charger and usb syncing/charging cable.
Possible causes for your problem are:
Defective craddle/car chargers, defects can be not the chargers themselves, but the cables that go from the chargers to the PDA.
Defective/unsoldered PDA power/charging connector, it is not so unusual that after you pull the cable too hard, without pressing the unlocking secures (in case your cables have them), accidentally hit your charging cable/craddle or the PDA itself while they are tied togheter you cause a malfunction due to a false contact or a broken cable.
See if one of this might be the cause in your case, how? Can you have a borrowed craddle/car charger to verify if yours are ok?
Try to move the charging cable/craddle or the PDA (easy and carefully) to see if the PDA begins to charge.
Let me know how it goes.
unfortunately I don't know anyone that has an XDA - so no other chargers unless I try the o2 shop.
THe XDA has a cradle with a usb connector that can charge and sync and also a mains lead which plugs into the cradle or there is a little adaptor piece(which I've lost) which plugs straight into the xda to charge. I stiooed using that because it would push in properly.
My thoughts are that its the PDA itself as the car charger was only bought december whilst I have had the PDA and cradle since 2004 and they both stopped charging at the same time. The adaptor stopped chargin in the summer.

[Q] Does anyone know what kinda of connector the charger uses?

Does anyone know what kind of connector the charger uses? Is it similar to another Motorola product that has the same charger?
I'm looking for this information so I can order a new tip for my Energizer Xpal. http://www.xpalpower.com/us/products/
I'd like to find a part number for the male plug that can be ordered from a parts site like Digikey. 12v 1.5A supplies are dirt cheap, I just need the plug to splice on.
I just tried an old nokia charger and the tip works, but the charger is 5v 300ma
I am attaching the tip to a 12v 2 amps... hope I don't fry it... ha
Will keep posted
It worked!
The nokia old plug works with the Xoom.
What model nokia was the phone that adapter belonged to?

[Q] Note 2 charging speeds..

Here's the deal. I bought this http://www.ebay.com/itm/12131733658...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648 last week and noticed it was taking forever to charge my phone using the provided wall and usb cables. I downloaded an app that told me how many amps my phone was charging at when plugged in and I got 500ma. I then plugged in an old garmin usb cable into my phone and it would charge at about 1500ma.
Now, the garmin wire is only a foot long so I cant use it in the car. I have a 3-in-1 car charging unit that is hard wired into the fusebox, for the gps, phone, etc.. when I plug the usb piece from ebay into the 3 piece with the usb cable provided it charges at about 300-400ma.. When it plug it directly into the car charging adapter in the car it charges about 500ma.
But when I plug the garmin cable into the 3-in-1 that charges at about 700 and directly into the car at about 11-1200...
So, my problem I believe is the cheap usb 'data' cable I bought from ebay.
Where can I buy a 6ft or so just straight usb cable that will charge at least at 1200ma for the Note 2??
I know this has been brought up 100 times but I havent really found a good answer yet.
I also tried cutting the green and white wires and even shorting the data pins with tin foil to no avail.
Please someone advise thanks!

Wireless Charging Internal Connections

I'm thinking about upgrading my P8 lite to include wireless charging, but I'd like to put the charger inside the case.
Does anyone know of the appropriate test points for +5v and ground to the charger?
Thanks
I didn't open up my phone, but I don't think they have any??? Myself, I would just buy a cheap Qi charging adapter.
For ground you can scrap the PCB, for 5V just follow the battery connector, you'll have to remove a couple of screws maybe, I did it because I had to unplug it.
