does anyone know if there is a program out there that will send my pictures on my phone onto an internet picture hosting website? ie: iflickr, photobucket, etc. i remember when i had an iphone, there was a program for iflickr, where i could send pics. from my phone directly into my iflickr account. is there such a similar program out there for the xperia? TIA!
There's a good few; though there are 2 that I've had experience with, and can recommend solidly, depending on what you want.
Dashwire is the one that SE have promoted, by releasing a panel. The panel is crap, but the application works wonders. It runs in the background from the moment you turn your phone on, and synchronises your phone with its own online service, allowing you to synchronise contacts, missed calls, messages (message sync is buggy though), mobile bookmarks, as well as photos and videos. It doesnt synchronise with services like facebook of flikr, but you have your own profile page, which you can choose via the online private dashboard to make your pictures public.
My favourite though is Shozu. Shozu you CAN send to all your favourite internet services, and more. it has the ability also to interact with the services you use via feeds, for example on facebook, you can get your friends' status updates. Via shozus interface, you can choose the services you wish to incorporate with your phone, including secondary relay services if you choose (meaning one snap can send to both facebook AND flikr), and then when you take your photo, you are prompted "do you want to send...". within moments, your photo is on facebook!
I would well reccomend either, although based on what i've told you above, each has alot of differentiation, for example dashwire sends ALL photos, shozu asks for permission. Dashwire hosts on its own service, shozu syncs with popular ones. Shozu is limited to what it synchronises, dashwire sync's your PIM.
Its your own call, but those are the ones id recommend.

Hi all,
Just wondering what you guys use to keep your contacts in Sync with multiple devices (PalmOS, WM6x, Android)
Personally now I use Google Apps Contacts, however Google Contacts lacks some features and it doesn't sync fully some extra fields.
Before I started using Google Contacts, I was using a mix of several applications like SwitchSyncEX and other alikes.
so i was wondering if there are some sort of apps for Android that can do cross platform contact sync-ing keeping all the fields, instead of chopping off whatever it doesn't understand (Google Contacts)
i would like to know this as well as I'm in the same boat (palm desktop, outlook/wm 6.5, and soon to be android)
I keep my master copy of contacts in Mac OS X address book which syncs with Google Contacts which I then use from remote devices (iPhone, Android, whatever)
I keep hearing about Plaxo, no idea if it's any good or available for Android.
I've used GooSync earlier. It did the job, but then you are still dependant on Google Contacts, which seems to be where you're missing some features.

exactly!
i like google contacts, is great, but it's missing features i got used to since PalmOS and WinMobile
i keep using both my old HTC Athena and SGS i9000, so Google Contact is the best one out there at the moment, unfortunately those extra fields from Outlook doesn't get sync-ed over.
and or if i create them in Google, there is no way to map it back to Outlook.... it's a bummer
Try mIQLive.com
Had all my HD2 Contacts, etc., synced with Exchange Server. Go to above Site, Download & Install the App on your current Device.
You can then upload all Contacts; Calendar; Texts; Call Logs; Bookmarks; Photos & Videos onto their "Cloud" server
Then on the new or 2nd phone, Download & Install the App. Sign in using the same Credentials. The mIQ Cloud Server will then Sync all of the above items with your new Device
I've used this recently to Sync up both Windows and Android Phones. Runs in a very similar manner to Dropbox, if you're familar with that for File Sync across mutliple PC's
Two other nice little bonuses IMHO
a) As the mIQ app runs in the background on your Phone, it maintains a "Push" type connection with your phone (not too dissimilar to a connection to Exchange Server) This will then automatically Sync New Texts; Photos; Contacts and Call Logs onto the Cloud Server for access thru a PC
b) This same connection allows you to send & receive Texts on your PC Browser, with the phone remaining in your pocket the whole time. Very handy at times
I should emphasize that BOTH my HD2 and Galaxy have their "Master Sync" with Exchange and I haven't noticed any abbreviations on the Outlook Contact Fields to date. And I use Outlook Contacts extensively for adding extra Contact Info etc. Your mileage may vary though!!!!
Oh and by the way, this is Free. So, hard to beat the price!!!
but google does that already for free, why i'd switch to a paid service when it does the same thing?
1) First of all, the mIQ Service is FREE, so no harm to try it
2) Secondly, mIQ is a “Live, Constantly On” service, so any Contact Changes; Texts; Call Timer Logs; New Photos etc. Are automatically backed up to the cloud. Handy in the event of disaster. Gmail Backup is far more intermittent
3) Thirdly, Google does NOT offer Auto Backup of the following items (which mIQ does)
a) Call Timer Logs (handy for business logs, if that’s important to you)
b) Photos, Files & Videos Backup
c) Browser Bookmarks (as far as I know)
4) Fourthly, Google Sync does NOT allow the feature I described above, of being able to Send and Receive Texts from your Desktop, while your phone remains in your pocket
If you run two phones (as I do) it can be very handy to move from one phone to the other and know that a new Bookmark you may have added on one phone; or a Text you may have received is Automatically on the OTHER phone by the time you pick it up. All happens within 10 seconds or so
now that sounds much more interesting, i'll give that a go
You can also try syncfriend Also free
sync
I use funambol sync, 90 days free on WInmo and free on android.
So I made a sync on my winmo to the funambol server and then when I got the SGS I installed Funambal and synced the contacts back to my SGS.
For me it worked fine!

As far as WinMo 6x and android devices are concerned, no need to buy any third party app. This is what i do. The only pre condition is that your primary server should be gmail(google) not hotmail. Then all you got to do is add gmail server as exchange server in WinMo device. Thereafter both WinMo & android will always be in sync simultaneously.
I've tried searching the forums for this but with no luck. I'm new to Android and one thing is irritating me about the email application on my new Desire HD.
When I view an email the phone automatically downloads any images that are required, even if they're hosted and not embedded. This means that if I accidentally open a spam email, the phone displays it in full HTML format with the images included. I want to block those images completely (for all emails).
Is that possible with the built-in mail application? I can't find a setting that controls this, and yet it seems like such a fundamental principle on a mobile phone that the user should have control over which images are downloaded. Windows Mobile - for all its faults - did this perfectly.
I don't want to download another mail client yet - the built-in one works fine for me apart from this (and the fact that deleting emails on the phone doesn't delete them on the server - but that's for another thread).
Can I get a bump here? Please?
I'm not sure which email prog you are using.
But if you use Gmail rather than DHD phones email app, you can have all your email accounts go through the one Gmail account, which filters spam mail, and has settings for what type and size of mail you receive.
Plus all your phones emails are backed up on your google/android account.
I'm with SiliconS on this...
All mail clients (malex1 gmail is not a mail client it is a mail service)... all mail clients except androids give you the option of whether or not to download images embedded in the email.
This has a number of benefits, not least of which it prevents spammers from identifying which email addresses they spam to are actually active.
I do not want to use gmail, that is not a viable option.. I just want a good email client.
Does anyone know of one?
Thanks
ok I know when to shut up

Hey
I was just wondering how many of you would like the ability to disable contact and calendar syncing from your main Windows Live account linked to your phone? When I first realized this was the case I immediately hard-reset my phone and made a new Windows Live account just for the phone so I would not have my 300 Live Messenger contacts in my People Hub however, this is not the case for everyone, and this solution has disabled my ability to find my phone from the internet if it is ever lost or stolen.
The point of this thread is sheer curiosity as too how many xda-dev members are affected by this poor choice of implementation.
What is your make-shift solution?
I read so much about all these extra contacts from Facebook e.a., but really don't experience it as a problem whatsoever. I have some 600+ contacts on Exchange, don't know how many on Facebook, and my Windows Live account pulls data from several sources including LinkedIn, totalling some 700.
I have yet to have a single instance where it's a problem. I mean, scrolling through the contact list would certainly be a pain, but there's search.
Before I even got a WP7 phone, I read that there wa sno way to disable contact sync from your Windows Live account so I just created a new one and using that for the time being. It would be nice to have the option to actually disable that part because I wouldn't mind using my normal Live account which is also linked up to my Xbox account, as I don't believe you can change the email on them?
I wish there was an option to do this
It doesn't bother at all. On the contrary that was the opportunity to get rid of all the rubbish contacts I had on Live Messenger and those that I kept I gave their proper ID, not some random childish name they've been using on Messenger. My contacts list actually looks like an adult list now.
There's no way I would create a new Live ID just for that reason as I've been using it for too many years and it's tied to my Xbox and Zune accounts.
I'm fine with the way it is.
By the way I cleaned up my Facebook contacts the same way. No points having hundreds of contacts I don't care about or barely know. My Facebook friends are actual friends and it's much better like that.

I think that the implementation is great. With calendar and contacts everything gets synced and you can always set the facebook account to only show data for those in your phone or live account.
About the Facebook settings, its great to have it set like I mentioned above and being able to search them at the same time even without them showing on the All section in the contact list.
I took he same approach as you and went to clean both my Live and Facebook accounts. I have everything synced and working flawlessly for my contacts.
I did the same as others and after realizing how many useless contacts I had in Live I just deleted a bunch. However, that should absolutely not be what Microsoft makes you do if you want to manage your Live contacts with WP7.
I really wish they just gave the same filtering option that Facebook's sync provides. Now I still have some 100 people extra that I want to keep but don't want to see on my phone that I am stuck with.
I assume they do this because of the way email works--if you hid the contacts in the People Hub then you may not be able to email those people using your phone.

yea but answer this, how many times have you emailed a friend for a NON-BUSINESS related subject as opposed to IM'ing them or posting on their facebook wall/inbox.
email is dead.
ME!! ME!!!
I don't want to sync ANYTHING from the live account but xbox live stuff and email. I don't want contacts, calendar, etc, etc.
I have an exchange account for that.
It's annoying to see two calendars listed even though I only use the one in my exchange account. It's also useless for me the photos, feeds, etc, etc.
I wish that every single account would let me pick what I actually want to sync.
source: http://mango.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp7/start/whats-new-in-windows-phone.aspx
The latest release of Windows Phone, code-named "Mango," has hundreds of improvements and new features. Here's a sampling of the smart, the fun, and the just plain cool.
Phone
Custom ringtones. You asked for it, we built it—now you can create your own ringtones using MP3 and WMA files.
Visual voicemail. No time to listen to rambling voicemails? Give them a quick read instead.
New Speech commands. Send a text with just your voice! That's right: with Speech, you can text, search the web, and lots more, totally hands- (and sometimes eyes-) free. Your phone can even read you an incoming text, and then you can use Speech to dictate and send your reply.
Email + messaging
Thread. Start with a text, and finish in Facebook or Messenger chat (or vice versa). The whole conversation stays in one thread, and all it takes to switch back and forth is a tap.
Conversation view. If you're fed up with deleting emails one by one or sifting through your inbox for related messages, then conversation view—emails grouped by subject—is for you. If you'd rather see your emails individually, you can still do that, too.
Linked inboxes. Juggling multiple accounts for personal or work email? Streamline things by linking them into a single inbox to see all the messages in one view (the accounts will stay separate).
People + social networking
Groups. Groups help you focus on the contacts you really care about—family, best friends, fellow soccer parents. You can pin your top Groups to Start to see everyone's latest status updates and to send quick texts, emails, or IMs to the whole Group.
More ways to share. You've got great new options for posting to social networks from your phone, including Facebook check-ins, video sharing, and sharing a link right from Internet Explorer.
More social networks. Never be out of the loop again: Twitter and LinkedIn are now built into Windows Phone, so practically everything you do on your social networks is a tap away. And don't worry—we've also included new ways to filter all those new contacts and their social updates.
A better Me card. It's all about Me—and the Me card is now one of the most useful spots on your phone for staying in touch with your friends and keeping tabs on your social networks.
History view. Contact cards now show the history of your recent calls, emails, texts, and chats with the person. Just tap in the list to return the call or go to the thread.
Smarter apps
Multitasking. Keep your place in a game while reading email? Check. Listen to music apps while texting? You bet. Many apps can run in the background, so you don't need to shut one down to use another—plus you can switch between open apps in a flash. Learn how
App Connect. Get the app you need—sometimes before you even know you need it. Search the web, and alongside the usual results you'll see apps you can use—like a movie app when you're looking up showtimes. You'll also see photo apps in the Pictures Hub and music apps in Music + Videos.
Improved Live Tiles. The Live Tiles on Start dish up more (and quicker) updates on your apps, and they're also a whole lot of fun—the Pictures Tile animates with a slideshow of your favorite snapshots and Group Tiles flash your friends' latest updates.
More in Marketplace. Marketplace has an ever-expanding lineup of standout apps and marquee games, and it's now easier to find what you want in the online store. So start limbering up those gaming thumbs!
A cleverer calendar. Your schedule is crazy—and your phone's calendar is here to help tame it. View multiple sub-calendars within a single account, see and respond to Facebook events, and create to-dos that show up in both list form and alongside your daily appointments.
Browsing + maps
Better search. Bing helps you search the web in more ways, with voice search, Music search, and Vision search, which uses your phone's camera to look up product info.
Local Scout. Live like a local! Local Scout, powered by Bing, teams up search and mapping to show you nearby restaurants, shopping, and activities in a single tap, so you'll never feel like a clueless tourist again.
Mall maps. Desperately seeking the food court? Zoom in on the mall in Maps (or go to its Place card) and you might find an indoor map to help you track down the nachos.
Driving directions. Your Windows Phone can get you where you're going by showing you on the map or giving you directions from where you are.
Pictures + camera
Video sharing. Send them in email or post them to Facebook or Windows Live. Learn how
Picture tagging. Your phone automatically detects untagged faces when you're uploading pictures to Facebook or Windows Live—just tap, tag, and post.
Persistent camera settings. Now if you change camera settings—for instance, photo resolution, brightness, or another option your phone manufacturer might have included—you can save them for the next time you use the camera. Learn how
A redesigned Pictures Hub. The Pictures Hub just got more personal, more social, and more fun.
Music + videos
Playlists. Add songs to Now Playing and then save them as a playlist, all on your phone.
Smart DJ. Play Smart DJ mixes on your phone—or if you've got a Zune Music Pass, you can stream them from Zune.
Podcasts. Subscribe to podcasts—audio or video—on your phone.
Office Mobile
Sync with SkyDrive. You can sync your Office docs between SkyDrive and your phone, so you can edit them on your phone now, then edit some more on your computer later.
An expanded Office Hub. The improved Office Hub has more ways to view, navigate, and search for your docs.
OneNote to-do lists. Check off your errands one-by-one with this handy new feature in OneNote.
Excel improvements. Excel Mobile on your phone has easier cell selection—just tap and drag—plus AutoSum for quick calculations.
Games
A revamped Games Hub. Now you can do more in the Games Hub—including track your achievements, dress up your avatar, and get messages from your Xbox LIVE friends.
Networking
Internet connection sharing. Turn your phone into a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot by sharing your Internet connection with your laptop and other devices.
Hidden Wi-Fi networks. Now you can connect to hidden Wi-Fi networks (networks that don't broadcast their network name).
My Windows Phone
Manage your phone on the web. Find a lost phone, see your pictures and Xbox stats, reinstall apps, and more on the My Windows Phone page.
Hi guys. I am loving my ZenWatch. The only issue I'm having is a blank contact photo for incoming calls. Does Android Wear only display Google+ contact photos? Most of my contacts have a Facebook contact photo. Of course the picture is displayed properly on my HTC One M8 phone, but on my watch it's always blank. Is there any way to correct this?
mhajii210
HTC have tended to use their own contact system on top of stock Android (linking contacts together, pulling photos from various sources). However, this data extra isn't saved to your Google contacts (except for some META data in contact notes).
I'm assuming that Wear gets its info from your Gmail contact details, so you need to have photos stored in there. I'm guessing slightly here, but when I moved from an HTC One to a Nexus 5 it was the largest sacrifice of leaving HTC. I had to manually add photos to all of my Google contacts (although there are some desktop utilities that can do it for you).
In short, if a contact is a Google+ Member, it will use that photo, otherwise it will use the photo stored in your Gmail account's contact entry (I think).
I know it's a pain, but the desktop utility I used asked for my Facebook login, Gmail login and then listed all of my contacts on both. I could link them together, press go and it pulled all of the Facebook photos and stored them with the Google account.
You only really have to do it once, and once it's done it's done. The plus side is that you can choose what photos you use for people, and you're not confused if you've got a friend that changes their profile pic several times a day.
You could do it manually on the desktop by logging into Gmail, selecting the contacts section, opening a Contact and adding a photo. I needed to do this for a couple, since their FB profile pics were too weird.
I'm guessing bits here, but I think I'm fairly spot on. Others may have quicker/easier ways of doing this, but I can dig out the app if you like. If this doesn't make sense, let me know since I'm typing in a hurry. I did like the Account merging facilities in HTC.
HaxSync
I found a very easy way to fix this. I installed HaxSync from the Play Store and this amazing app solved the blank contact photo for incoming calls on my smartwatch. I'm sure it's way easier than manually assigning pictures to the contacts. I'm a very happy camper.
mhajii210
I've noticed that mine will display the generic contact photo for a second or 2 after I receive a call. The saved contact photo shows up after about the 2nd ring or so. If yours is operating the same as mine, perhaps you're just answering the phone before the photo is sent to the watch.
