Hi, sometime my i780 did not play the assign ringtone when there was a incoming call, sms, email etc.
When I checked the settings, it complained that the ringtone was corrupt.
This happen to 6.1 and 6.5 rom and it happens very rarely.
A quick soft reset solved the problem but I want to see if this happens to any other i780 users and if they have a solution to this.
Cheers
P.S This happen even if the ringtone was on the device storage and not on the storage card
I have same problem, even for both .mp3 or .wav. The ringtones for receiving incoming call just switch to Rings-window standard. and worse, it takes few seconds for LED lights to flashing and then slowly to turn on the screen and start vibrating and ringing.
It happes even when i use win 6.0 or 6.1, and I have to be rush to pick up the call otherwise.... miss call.....
Very annoying... anyone have the idea ?
Try to put your ringtones in phone memory not in SD card
it happens to me a while back ago, but since i put my ringtones on the phone, it never complains
hope it works for you too

As stated in my first post, the problem occur even if ringtone was on device, which is wierd.
I suspect it might be due to some software conflict.
yup.. i even copy the ringtones into main memory and windows directory... but still same corruption... even the sizes of the ringtones are 4mb, or 1mb, or 500kb...
i was using win 6.0 DXHE1 and win 6.1 DXHL2
I have similar problem for long time. The ringtone always switches back to the default one, no matter I put my ringtone in device or SD card. Reset doesn't help and I have to manually set it again and again. It will use the rigntone for a while and switch back to the default.
yes... exactly i have that annoying problem... Pls any advice to fix that... Really annoying... I even tried some ringtone manager software... but also can't help...
have you tried to update/ upgrade your ROM? to recent official ROM?

this is still a huge problem. its giving m random beeps. i just upgraded the firmware and i still have the problem
I know it's late, but for anyone else experiencing this I believe I found the fix from another forum.
you replace the Default.wav file in the /Windows with a silent wav file.
I copied it to my computer, had to uncheck the read-only setting then opened in soundrecorder. it sure enough is that horrible beep. play it then select "delete before current position" Save it and replace.
haven't heard a beep yet

You healed the fever but did not cure the disease... check your appointments, alarms to see if is one of them that is causing it. You stopped the sound from playing, but whatever is causing the beeps is still there.
Try a hard-reset and do not sync with your PC for 2 or three hours. Also, do not install any app and let us know further.
Regards.
sounds like low bat issue or a missed message a missed text or mms or email that has not been looked at can cause it to send a reminder every 15 mins if you have that turned on. the one thing i had to do was open every email in the phone i had one not read and beep beep beep.
now your power might be high but if the battery is failing like mine i get the beeps at 50% because the bat is crap and at less then 50 shuts off.
is your phone on wifi?
if it has wifi enabled it'll beep everytime it searches out a new connection
those sound like logical answers but my phone had none of those symptoms....
I checked everything I could possibly think of. The people on the forum where i found that "fix" seemed to be just as baffled and nobody ever really came to any conclusion.
someone suggested searching the registry for instances of that .wav file and removing them but that didn't seem to help either
blanking the wav seems to be the only remedy for that annoying noise you're gonna find if you do happen to have this problem
Hi all,
I've just done a search on this and have found a few posts but none with a conclusive answer to my problem.
I have upgraded to Schaps 4.x ROM and all has been fine for a good few weeks, then without [knowningly] changing anything, the phone has stopped ringing or vibrating no matter what ring tone/type I select. I still see the pop-up of the name/number of person calling but no sound whatsoever.
When I play the sample tones (using the play button in sounds & notifications) the ringer plays fine. Also other notifications (SMS, Email, etc) seem to be fine.
Anyone experienced this and found a solution?
Many thanks.
Now thats a coincendence as I'm seem to have extactly the same problem.
Not all the time thou and I have recently flashed my phone with Farias new rom.
I couldn't be bothered to diagnose the problem any more than I have already have so just did a hard-reset and finished installing my apps. I forgot to create a working back-up before and will do one this time!
It would still be good to know if this problem does get resolved.
yes, i have the same problem with
Shamanix`s WM6 Ultimate v2, which is based on Schaps 4.x ROM i presume.
so it looks like a bug in the OS itself, or maybe something in Schaps Advanced Config Tools.
because sometimes Vibration starts working (sometimes for a couple of hours, sometimes just until the next call, sometimes for a couple of days) and then it doesnt work again.

Actually, sorry, my mistake in my original post, I used to have the Schaps ROM but then changed it to Shamanix one too- based on Schaps though like you've mentioned.
Anyway, I got just a bit annoyed with it and like I said, did a hard-reset. I re-installed all the same apps and no problems so far. Not sure what triggered the problem though.
the same problem exactlly, I flashed Faria - the last -I think it is a 6.1 error
Phone ringer resets itself to silent.
Just to be clear about the problem I am having, my phone periodically turns off the ringer and vibrate and goes to silent without any prompting.
I first noticed this when I flashed to a Faria's first 6.1 rom. It was suggested that the Home "profiles" tab had something to do with this. Apparently the "Auto" switch in the profile tab is supposed to turn off the ringer during appointments. I have not ever used the profiles, and in fact I usually disable the profiles tab in HTC home. Also at that time, I found that the ringer would be randomly turned off even when there were no appointments scheduled.
I switched to a 6.0 rom and continued to have the same issues. I have flashed a OEM rom and reflashed the newest Faria 6.1 rom and I am still having the ringer turn to silent, however now it does seem to be primarily when an appointment is scheduled, though I have never set it to "Auto" in the profiles.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this? It is frustrating to be missing calls every day.
seems it is a very old problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279920
maybe it is something with Hermes hardware problem?
another thread about it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288728&highlight=mute;+no+sound
mostly everybody who has this problem start having it NOT after flashing\updating software, but after sometime of just using a device. so it SEEMS to be a hardware problem with some contacts, which brake\disconnect cuz of vibrations and\or just oxidation\corrosion.
I have the same problem, and I don't think the above threads are the same thing. The ringer just doesn't work for incoming calls, regardless of which ringtone I use. I have it set to ring and vibrate, and up until a couple days ago, it would at least vibrate, but no ring. I was ok with that, but now it won't vibrate. I do get the voicemail notification sounds, and I get sound for incoming text messages. Vibrate also works with text messages and such.
And now that I'm typing this, I just received a call, and the phone vibrated! It was set to ring and vibrate, though. At least it's vibrating again, but I miss my ringtones!
I'm running K's rom version 1.31 right now, but I'll be installing K's final rom as soon as the download finishes. I also plan on installing all my programs one by one and soft resetting in between. Hopefully if it's a software conflict causing this, I can narrow it down that way.

same here.. i already try installing a few diff rom.. but it still cant fix the mute problem.. can anyone else help us? hmm
I got K's final rom installed, and I finished installing all of my crap. My ringtones work fine now. I have to say, I wish I would have installed this rom earlier; it's much faster. I think I'm going to backup my registry now, so if the ringtones do quit working again, I can at least prove whether or not the registry had the problem. I'll update if I learn anymore about this.
Like I mentioned in a earlier thread, I installed Shamanix`s WM6 Ultimate v2 ROM which was about 5 weeks ago; ringtones were working perfectly and all of a sudden they stopped.
I'm not sure if I did 'something' by accident to cause this problem. But having reflashed using the EXACT same ROM and apps, the ringtones are working fine again.
I'm running stock ROM on VZW... Almost every call I get causes the phone to freeze, sending the call to voicemail. It is so frustrating that I can do everything with my phone, except receive calls! I have slide to unlock, and thought the slide to answer was causing the problem... so I disabled it. Still having problems. Any suggestions?

Back it up and hard reset, see if that fixes it.. If so, you have some bad software.
I had the same problem with my Tilt2. I have tried six different roms. The same problem. I download a program called Gaz TD2 Tools. I used that to disable the default dialer. Since then I don't have that problem. I have a ugly phone pad but I can answer a call. seventeen missed calls in one day was enough.
Storage Card Issue Perhaps
Assuming a Hard Reset doesn't fix this, I have another suggestion. Back everything up as previously suggested. If you have a Storage Card in the phone, pull it out and re-boot. If you've installe dprograms to the card you'll get some error messages - don't worry, they will disappear if the card is good and you decie to put it back in again.
I've had several cards become subtly corrupted over the years of using WinMo Phones. They can often cause this kind of maddening problems with no apparent solution.
If the card is bad, try to copy off all the files onto your computer. Then re-format it. Do this in the phone if it can (don't know about the Rhodium on this) or on your computer using an adapter. Then put back the data files and CAB files for the software you want to install again. Put it back in your phone and boot. If everythig's now ok, go ahead an dinstall the CABs.
If the Card is still wonky after re-formatiing, try going to the Manufacturer's website for help. I had a 16 Mb Sandisk microSD fail in my Fuze and after a couple of emails suggesting I thry to diagnose the card using varioous utilities, Sandisk concluded it was faulty, sent me a new one and a pre-paid return mailer. No problems after that. You can't beat that kind of service.
Best of Luck!

I had similar problem like yours. I've just taken sdcard out and now it seems phone is not freezing. Sdcard was previously used in Nokia phone for a while. Suppose it's not new type, that's why phone was freezing, i presume. Hope i will not have such problem again, because it ****ing irritating...
sounds familiar

I have also had this problem when I swap cards from one phone to another. even contemporanious phones from the same manufacturer. It's o tempting to do it, but I've come to think it's better to copy everything off of the card, reformat it, then load things back up. might just be coincidence, but it does seem to produce less problems.
Nice to know I'm not the only one
Cheers!

Now it resetted itself again when the battery level was %94. There is no sdcard inside. Let's see what's gonna happen... ****!
Installed this update yesterday from HTC. Phone seems to be working better, even with S2U2 options enabled... I'll report back with any lock-ups if they happen.

Which update?
First off let me apologise if this has already been answered elsewhere.....I have had a search but short of trawing through hundreds of threads I thought this may be the best option.
My question is this: I am currently using one ringtone and one alert on my Desire, both of these are in mp3 format and both are on the sd card. After mounting the sd card, when I resume normal function of the phone the ringtone has reverted to its default setting (windchimer) but the alert tone stays as I set it, this also happens after powering the phone off and back on again. Does anybody have an answer as to why this happens, and more importantly can anybody tell me how to stop it happening? This is driving me round the bend.
while the sdcard is in use (connectd do laptop, for example), the android equipment cant access the card, so It will user the default ringtone
I realise that but I don't understand how the notification resumes as previously set but the ringtone just goes back to the default. Does this mean that every time I mount the SD card I have to reset my ringtone afterwards?

No. It's likely a problem with either the ROM you're on, or an application that is installed. My suggestion is reset to factory, see if it's the ROM, then restore your apps from a backup one at a time to find the culprit.
It is not at all uncommon for me to wonder whose phone is going off, as it isn't any of the sounds that I set for my phone, going off, only to find that it is my phone after all, as it has obviously decided it doesn't like my taste in music and pick other sounds, lol. As stated, it has happened many times, is every notification sound and rring tones and is not just a one off. Does this happen to anyone else and/or does any one know what I can do to keep the sounds that I want?

My wifes G2 did this, we found that a downloaded app from the market with different sounds. The phone would play ALL the ringtones at random. Once we removed that app from the phone it then played the selected ring and notification tones.
You don't recall which app it was?

Do u keep changing(adding/removing) music in your SD card?
Does it keep changing it to the same ringtone, notification, etc? Or random ones?
Its normal if the ringtones are you on your SD card, for them to switch back to the default tone set if you hook up your phone via USB to your PC in disk drive mode (phone can no longer access the SD card). It usually switches back to your custom tones when you unhook USB, but occasionally it will stay on the defaults. I've also read of some instances where problems with the SD card will do the same thing.
You can try to move your SD files to your computer, and format the card, or try a different card.
In the case of the SD card issue, it always seems to switch the tones to the same default tone set. If you're getting different random tones, it might be a different issue.
