Got my Diamond from NewEgg last week and would like to backup the stock rom 1.93.422.4 before I start playing around with custom rom's. I have done alot of reading here and can't seem to find this.
Thanks for this great forum!
Me too. I put my Wizard in a drawer 3 weeks ago when I got my Diamond... and my stock ROM is getting boring. I would love to keep it just in case... is there a way to back it up?

if you dont know, how to put your backup/rom (*.raw) back to device than dont use this method.
i dont know it realy and that what i read was at the end not exactly my rom.
it was a combine of my *.raw'S and needed files from *.nbh
now, i work with a combine of favorite cooked rom and pda-backup-software.
how to upload the raw files
how can i put my original rom (raw files) back in my diamond ?
i think you can use way 1:
after *.RAWing your device, put it with the installed ruu_signed.nbh to safety folder and dont touch it until you need it.
and when the time comes, where to needed this backup, take a kitchen and put ruu_signed.nbh and the raw01/02 to BaseRom and extract and cook in one way without any changing by something. you get your backup at nearliest by 90% back. your installed programs will be inside. but grrrr-thinks by provider will be there too.
way 2:
mtty. need say more. no, because its only therie in brain ... i think i read something about this ... but at that time i dont need it and so my brain trash it. sorry

Hello,
I was wondering if i can somehow make a rom off of a running phone....
Basically here is my thinking...
I have a tilt (kaiser), and i want to setup something like sprite terminator (possibly something else) on it as well as some other apps, once it is all customized the way i like it, i want to backup the device into a rom, then use it to flash my phone..... that way should anyone ever steal my phone even if they did a hard reset it would only flash back to my rom and therefore my terminator already be setup again....

Your cooked rom will be always there even with hard reset

Sort of - you can extract a ROM from an HTC device but, as said above, it won't include any changes made by you after hardreset. All it will do is to take the ROM that sets up Windows, etc. for you. It will only do the same job if you then take that ROM and install it on the same device or elsewhere.
What you probably want to do get a kitchen and cook in these apps. In most cases you can also cook in all your personal settings for those programs and for windows itself.
If you go far enough into cooking kitchens, you'll eventually be able to make a ROM which is, after a hard reset, already set up precisely the way it would be if you hard reset and install all your apps and change all of the setting both in Control Panel items and in your apps. All that could be there smiling at you after a hard reset as you want it to be, but you'll have to cook a ROM to make it so.
Another option is to use an auto-installer for cabs, although that would only make setup easier and can be circumvented pre soft resetting before the installs kick off so it wouldn't have the security of having your name and theft-prevention software already set up.
In my case, my Hermes does come completely setup with all my preferred windows and apps settings, as if I'd spent hours setting up after a hard reset. Mostly this is done by a big cab in Preconfig and most settings in the ROM's registry from cooking with a rgu file. A big one.
(I'm working - albeit slowly - on some simple tools that can help in creating one's own single, personal OEM to add into a kitchen and has all of your settings and apps in it. I just need to work out how to automate some cabwiz functions that currently I'm using some expensive-ish software for which I can't expect others to buy. Can't give out my own 'big cab' even to help as an example I'm afraid as it's got all kinds of paid-for or private stuff in and it'll take ages to unpick. Should I not get this simple tool going as I want, I'll probably just write a page on wiki or something as it's still easier than going through the whole process of cooking in many apps and your windows folder wil be much, much cleaner and your phone a lot faster if you do it this way.)
Great thanks so much for all the help.... BTW tried sprite and it only caused my tilt to not download emails from exchange so it came off and time for another hard reset
Hi Guys,
One thing I would like to know, before flashing a new ROM can I somehow save/backup my complete ROM so that I am able to restore it when I am not satisfied?
Not PIMBackup - complete ROM
Thanks,
Boris03
No save it, but if you look you will probably find the original ROM that you had on your phone somewhere around here.
But once you have used a cooked ROM, you wont want to go back .
I think he means after he has tweaked it and put his own apps on. Takes me nearly an hour and countless soft-resets to get it how i want it!
Is there a way to copy our ROMs once we have them how we want em?
OK. I DID tried to search about this... I'm a noob anyway, so I'll open up a new post on. Please take it easy.
There's a way to backup/dump an installed ROM?
I mean, I want to keep a copy of it, in case I preffer to get back to the old one, instead of one of the the enhanced ROM's.
I searched at the "original roms" post, but none of them are up to date like mine (rom version 1.35....).
thanks
john
Sprite Backup lets you save all configuration and restore it later.. but saving a an Original ROM image mmm I don't know..
just a quick question for a stupid noob, ive flashed my diamond to Gen.Y TouchFlo3Dv2.1 VGA and im loving it, its taken a while but ive got it just how i want now, if i change the radio will i have to set up all my apps again
no.....
when i run the program its a ruu and i thought that would wipe all my apps and i would have to re install my apps, but your saying no, all my programs will stay and all the reg tweaks ive made will stay untouched .
It will wipe programs from your "phone" memory, not from the "internal" memory I think. But I think that the old ones will not be visible. Settings after flashing new rom will be removed. That's my oppinion
Radio...
Flashing a radio won't touch any of your programs or settings... it's in a different part of the ROM
Flashing a Radio..

Hi Bazz..
What Benko said, short but sweet , is absolutely right.. Just use the CustomRUU.exe (flashing utility) and the radio file you want and flash as is (I have HardSPL on my phone allowing me to flash anything).. I applied the same Gen2.1 ROM (my compliments to Yozgatg for a great ROM ) not more than a week ago, tried the Radio 1.13.25.24 and then decided to go back to 1.15.25.14 (search on forums and you'll find it). I've been using that Radio for a good number or months and it's pretty reliable and good on battery (for HTC Diamond) so you might want to have a look and see what others have said about it
BTW - I flashed it as is and didn't have to re-enter any settings at all and my phone booted as normal after. If you sync your phone with your desktop PC make sure you get a sync BEFORE you upgrade just in case as it's better to be safe but like grahamkdt said I doubt you'll need it.
Yeah SRY, I ment the full rom flashing
(Excuse me if this seems noobish, I'm used to nandroid )
I dumped my ROM and got Part00, 01, 02, 03.raw. The only ones I've seen used are parts 1 and 2, but judging by file size, I'm pretty sure 3 is the data partition, so if I flashed a ROM with 1 and 2, I'd get the OS back, but none of my files. Like a fresh install of Windows. Is there any way to put that part 3 into the nbh?
Or am I completely wrong about what the parts are?
This is a pretty convoluted way to go about making a backup, but it sounds like you're on the right track. I find it much easier to do a full backup with another application like SPB Backup or Sprite Backup. This would restore the entire ROM after flashing it back to how it was. This doesn't make a flashable ROM image, but it does allow you to flash the ROM you made the backup from and then do a full restore including registry entries.
Okay, thanks, but is there any way to make a flashable NBH out of those parts that you know of? I was going to try out the Android NAND boot thingy, but I wanted to be able to get back to Windows Mobile as soon as I could if things didn't work out, because the TouchPro2 is now my only phone worth using
By the way, the Albino Black Sheep link in your signature should be REQUIRED to watch before using any forum
Not as far as I know. It's not a long process to restore a backup. I do it quite often and it takes me about 10 minutes total to go from flashing the ROM to completing the restore process and rebooting. The only caveat to this is that the full backups will only function properly when used with the exact ROM that was flashed when the backup was made.
I got that link from when I was active in the Steam forums. I wish I could just hand it out to most of the new guys around here who have never been part of a forum before.
Thanks I vaguely remember the old Data Backup program from my iPaq 3600 of old, and I guess this is kinda the same thing.
Yes, but you may want to get a newer backup program. Most of the older ones that worked on WM5 do not work on WM6.5 and WM6.5.3.
