For those struggling with aGPS there may be a fix. I don't know yet, but Telus settings seem to fix aGPS. Set these in QPST and registry.
For Valhalla:
Then just change these and Soft Reset:
HKLM\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\Mode=2 (the original value)
HKLM\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\PDEAddress=5C8BC6D8
HKLM\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\PDEPort=8889
Thank Humpa at PPC Geeks for the above.

For Custom Roms
216.198.139.92
8889
IP
PDE
EnableAGPS = 1
GPS Mode = 4 (2 would probably work too)
Works great (for Valhalla patch)! I got 5 locks inside my fortress of a workplace again!
Worked for me also!! This is a great find.
would this be the fix for say, i installed balhalla patch, it worked for a little bit, and now i cant get a lock to save my life?
So all I've ever used was the QPST setup described in threads. I don't know if this is the same as 'valhalla'. I definitely am missing any GPS signal all of a sudden. Was also working like 2 weeks ago. Any tips on how to install valhalla with the above setup in lehmans terms. I'm very stupid. I said it. And I know how to get the cab file. Just trying make sense of all the other registry stuff. Don't reply if you can't be nice. Verizon xv6900 NSFAN 1.12 - 3.37.78 Los Angeles.
Valhalla
If you had a connection 2 weeks ago, then you probably weren't using the Valhalla patch (going by your sig) - this was mostly used by people who have the Verizon leaked ROM (like me). The first thing you want to get your hands on is a PPC registry editor. I'm partial to PHM Registry Editor (cause it's free!)
Hopefully, someone will chime in with more information an what needs to be changed. Was there anything on the reference site (PPC Geeks) that serfboreds mentioned?

Go through the same QPST steps except on the gpsOne tab use the new IP and Port settings in post #1.
serfboreds... You and Humpa are my heros.
I made the changes you suggested to Vahalla and I had a lock with 7 sats in about 10 seconds indoors.
DUDE - VZGuy - you are MYguy!!! Thanks to everyone in this post. Problem solved. There lots like me on other posts. I'll see if I can't redirect them here. GREAT WORK!
OK, I admit it, I'm an ID10T.
I didn't back up my registry before starting this gps recovery journey. Now (after reading I didn't have to make all of those changes after all) I'm being told to un-do all of the changes and just change the IP and port.
I have attached my valhalla and htc supl agps registry entries. Would some kind soul please take pity on this fool and tell me the original values I should enter to get back to "normal"? From there I should be able to follow Humpa's instructions.
Imagine, he "searched" for the answer and found it. Will wonders never cease...

Ok, no need for two steps, lets skip the revert to old, it is irrelevant.
Here is what changes you need to make to SUPL AGPS:
EnableAGPS = 1
GPS Mode = 2
Server IP = 216.198.139.92
Port = 8889
And to Valhalla Keys:
PDEAddress = 5C8BC6D8
PDEPort = 8889
The rest of it looks right to me.
BTW - if you really want the default values you can get them here.
Here in southern California, and this isnt working for me, but thanks Humpa
Success!! Huzzah!!

Thank you most kind and noble sir!
GpsGate now shows "GPS data with valid position"! That's refreshing to see...
My GPS software "sky map" now shows many more satellites and is instantly "hot". Also refreshing...
It's nice to see the arrow in MLS sitting firmly on my roof again!
GM instantly finds 5 satellites and locks to my location in less than 2 seconds! It's not as accurate as MLS, but at least it works!
All in all, a very successful rescue!!
Thank you again. Now I will stop grovelling (but still be appreciative none the less).
I am still having some issues. I was using the leaked verizon rom with the valhalla patch and had good gps. Like everyone else mine went out. I switched over to NFSFAN's rom and have tried some of these fixes using PHM Registry Editor and am not having any luck.
Here are some things that I have done that I am not sure I needed to:
Installed Valhalla's patch
I can't seem to get the PEDADDRESS in Valhalla to stick once I enter this: 5C8BC6D8
Thanks to everyone who is working on a fix and to those who can help me out.

I have the same trouble. I changed the type to HEX, which let me enter the correct string. When I go back it has changed it to DEC, but it is correct (if you change to hex again). I have done all these fixes just now (3/25) and now GM will find satellites (up to 7 or 8) but cannot find "my location" on the map. Its like it doesn't know what to do with the satellite data.....
Hey guys, I just had to replace my xv6900 due to a giant drop - this after I had just figured out how to get gps running again after all the verizon issues over the last 2 weeks. My question is do I need to unlock and that whole process still using cokeman or do I just proceed with valhalla setup as if it were the MR1 update. This is straight from Verizon store with rom version 3.14.605.1 / radio 3.37.78/ PRI 2.03_002. Thanks for any help.

Hello and thanks in advance for any answers to my questions on QuickGPS.
I have an XDA-Orbit and am running it on Vodafone, not O2. I am also running TomTom 6.x. I find that my GPS acquisition times are not as good as people are reporting. Best case it takes about a minute or so... and worst case, longer than 15 min.
I keep my quickgps files up to date, but just what are in these files? I gather that it gets my approximate location based on which cell tower I am connected to, and then gets satellite positioning info. However, do all cell towers broadcast their location, etc. For example, is using QuickGPS with a vodafone SIM useless because it is looking for an O2 cell tower?
Also, does tomtom make use of quickgps? In my tomtom settings, the option to use quickgpsfix is greyed out. Should I be using quickgpsfix instead of quickgps, or is it basically the same thing.
Thanks again!
N.
Have a look in your windows folder and check out the file size of 'packedephemeris.ee' it should be around 50k. If it's not then as I understand it it's not updating properly. I have a mda compact iii and the default settings give me a file size of about 8k, if I use this TomTom takes about 4-5 mins to get a fix.
After following the instructions in the 'update quickGPS manually' thread and replacing the file I'm getting a fix in about 20 seconds.
However the registry fix doesn't seem to be working at the moment but you can do it manually.
Thanks for the response. I just checked the size of the file in windows and it was 47.7k, updated yesterday. One thing that may be causing this is that I travel quite a lot and often times the last known position of the gps is totally different than where I am when I start up the app. Maybe this is causing the problem.
Just use this file for update. Download it and copy it to your windows folder.
http://service.mio-tech.com/eeservice/packedephemeris.ee
Thanks for the response. How often should I update this file? Daily?
If you update it manually it updates the 'download' and 'valid time' in the quickGPS app so if you have the 'remind me when data expires' I'm guessing it should let you know when you next need to do it.
A slightly better solution :
Replace the following ip's in the register:
Use resco reg edit or any other register editor.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\0\0\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\0\1\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\1\0\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\2\0\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\2\1\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
Here you go. now just use quickGPS to download the location file.
Just for reference, I did manage to download the file, and replace the existing one. The GPS signal picked up within 15 seconds! This is a huge difference from before.
One thing though... if I update through the quickgps program, my file is indeed about 50k in size, but obviously does not do much or does not contain valid data.
I wonder if the data provided is carrier specific.. Ie, an XDA gets data that will not work on a different carrier than O2.

The ip servers i posted should work. the have been working for over a week now for me. The thing is, if you adjust the ip adresses in the register you have to do a soft reset to make sure the register keeps the setting. if you check your register now you'll see that the default values are back.
How i got them? easy, google on the file P...ee and look for url's with this structure : http://SITENAME/clm/p..ee

Thanks for this fix. I've now got a 47k packedephemeris file, so that's better than it was. But should I have a QuickGPS option in TomTom? I'm on 6.020 but I can't see any such option...
thanks for this, worked a treat, I was having the sat fix time issues and looking at the packed ephomeris file it was only 3.7k,
I thought the reason that it was taking so long is that I always update it at home but I never turn it one when I depart, most time at a completley different location.
Hi all
First post here.
I know I am resurrecting an old thread... I found it while googling for a fix for my inoperative quickGPS on my MDA Compact III.
This has failed to connect for some weeks now and it definitely affects lock-on speeds.
Red Baron's solution above works for me - i.e. download the file and manually put it in the Windows folder on the device - but it is a bit of a chore.
So I then tried Bonkey's solution and edited the IP addresses as shown - but this doesn't work sadly.
Should I be putting a www in front of the addresses listed?
Or has there been some change to the addresses?
It's a bit of a crappy piece of software, very difficult to find out if any updates or changes are required.
I'm very glad of RedBaron's solution, it is so far the only one on the net that I can find that works!
Thanks for any advice you can give.

So Aaron McCarthy discovered a new Vogue rom for Telus users (I REPEAT: TELUS ONLY!!!). It was at one of the known IP addresses which HTC has used. It was accidentally leaked or opened for a tester, I suppose. It's also seemingly no longer available... I get "Directory Listing Denied" when I follow the link now. So, of course I've uploaded my copy to rapidshare. Back up any important files on your phone and then enjoy:
http://rapidshare.com/files/1282900...4350H_3.41.00_Ship_withPPSTPatch1.20.exe.html
It'll be easy to install, just run the EXE on your windows XP/Vista computer, connect your vogue with Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Center when the program prompts you to do so, and follow the on-screen instructions. It took me approximately 15 minutes to do this. Add five for letting the phone customize itself.
I also did some messing with it to get everything working. It does not fully function out of box (which is probably why it's not actually released yet).
For me, the steps that got the GPS and Internet to work:
-Dial *22803 , 1 (for English), 1 (program your handset). Wait for reset.
-Install Google Maps and a registry editor.
-Search for a registry key called GPSMODE and change it's dword value from 2 to 4. This may not be necessary, but it worked for me.
<EDIT>Registry change is definitely not necessary, I've tried it both ways with no different effect. What this setting does might be explained better in the next post.</EDIT>
-Soft reset.
-Run Google Maps and any other freeware, no problem.
I'm certain that some GPS programs will require initialization/tweaks, and I'd bet that most of those have already been examined elsewhere in this forum. Anyway the GPS is seemingly solid and accurate. I placed it next to a handheld garmin unit and speed, lattitude, longitude were matched on both devices over a half-hour trip. It will certainly NOT work indoors.
As for Rev.A, I honestly cannot tell you anything about it. I'm in a CDMA only area for the next 3 weeks.
Thanks again to Aaron McCarthy for discovering the Rom and letting us know so that I could copy it before we got locked out. Here's the thread he started : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2385096
by setting GPSMode to 4 you disable the GPS. Not the best idea....
GPSMode 1 = ONLY pure GPS
GPSMode 2 = GPS + aGPS
GPSMode 4 = aGPS only
Got it installed without any issues. However Google maps and the Telus Navigator programs don't seem to be able to find the GPS... Well, to be more precise, googlemaps doesn't give an error. It just sits there seeking satellites. The Telus NAV doesn't get past the startup screen. Any suggestions?
WM6.1 is working fine on my phone but is it possible that I actually don't have the built in GPS even though it is a Telus HTC Touch?

It has been known since a while that all Vogues phones (or CDMA Touch) have the GPS hardware built in. It is just not activated by Telus yet.
This new ROM should be released officially by Telus soon in order to let users have GPS and better performance.

Thanks for this ROM. Can't be more easy to upgrade a ROM.
GPS is working fine. It took several try and a very clear sky (no tree) to make first connexion. It was so slow to connect that I suspect AGPS (cellular tower triangulation assist) is not working.
At 3 bars of reception, in EVDO REV A zone, I get a DL speed of 150 to 400kb/s which is pretty lame and just a bit better than before rev A.
One problem:
When clicking on status icons on the top bar (volume, battery, etc.), it used to display the control directly. Now it displays an intermediate screen repeating those icons but in a larger mode. It is buggy because it doesn't display message icons if I previously clicked Dismiss. Then I can't go to my messages.
In Start, Settings, System, TouchFLO, there is no setting to remove this screen.
I tried HKLM->Software->HTC->EnlargeTitleBar->Enable=0 without success.
Is it something that comes with WM6.1?
Is it Telus ROM specific?
Do Sprint official ROM got the same problem?
Any reg to remove this?
That is too funny

If you go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406320&page=2 and go to post #14 you can see the guide to improving GPS locks on the telus rom. I mean DRASTICALLY. From initally loading the rom I went from getting 4-5 locks maybe after a few minutes on a cold GPS start then once I changed all the settings and did a soft reset I was getting 6 to 7 satellite locks down in my basement. Pretty impressive
It's not as complicated as it seems to be in the post I made. Pretty straight forward actually and I would recommend it to anyone who wants better GPS reception
In regards to Rev A speeds. I'm in London ontario so would think there would be rev A in the area but I dont get any better download speeds. I still download around 600-800 kbps. Which is really good enough for me. I dont know if rev A actually was supposed to increase your download speed or if it improved upload speeds making Voip easier and allowing you to have data and phone stuff going on at the same time. All I know is my internet speed didnt change but Rev A was enabled.

Every time, before using this, an already established data connexion is needed BEFORE looking for GPS satellite. The GPS will not establish the connection if it's not there. A simple solution is to open Google map and move the map up to a download is required BEFORE making the GPS satellite connexion.

Yep - and it appears to be identical to the one referenced in this thread from 3 weeks ago. That's kind of a disappointment considering how much trouble the tech-naive user is going to have getting the gps to work and getting their data connection back after flashing.

Very lame.

2 weeks ago I sent a support ticket to HTC stating that the GPS fix is difficult to get, mainly because all GPS assisted features (aGPS) are disabled by default in the radio (can't be fixed by a simple registry tweak). I even pointed them to one solution of many (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406320&page=2 post #14). Then no correction and not even a mention in the documentation.
I just can't imagine how many phone calls they will get from upgraders complaining that the GPS can't find satellites after 5 minutes...
I know I'm a noob, but I've been struggleing with this for a while now. I put in probibly 6 hours last night and haven't any clue if I'm even close to being complete.
I bought an HTC Touch MP6900SP (Sprint) and was told it had a clean ESN. Turns out it didn't and I'm up the creek because I paid cash. I bought it to replace my motor razr which has a clean ESN, but is quickly dieing. I'm trying to clone my ESN but can't get mtty to work properly. Once the ESN is swapped, the RAZR will go in my junk drawr.
I've tried to follow the steps here:
http://www.mobile-files.com/forum/showpost.php?p=355768&postcount=1
but when I go to fire up mtty I can only enter the rtask a command then the program or phone won't allow me to do anything else, even type the next command.
In the boot loader I have the following info:
VOGU100 MFG
SPL-2.31.CoKe
CPLD-3
Can someone please walk a noob through this. I'm totally new to this whole unlocking thing and could really use some help. The phone is locked to the account of the previous seller who refuses to release it. I've got the 2.31.coke on there now and when I boot it normally I also have the Alltel rom that fires up. HELP!!! PLEASE!
Edit: In MTTY when I run rtask a this is what I see, but I can't type anything after that.
rtask a
Enter Radio Bootloader
POWER ON PMIC VREG_USB : SUCCESS!
This has been covered...
SEARCH!!! MTTY is actually working, you just can't see the text you are typing... Just be careful typing everything in and you will be good to go...
Alright, I got through MTTY, and am not onto working in CDMA workshop.
I put the phone into DM mode, Active sync disconnects, but CDMA shows it is connected to Com1 port successfully, but fails when I attempt to read the ESN.
I can't seem to find the diagnostic modem drivers that I need and think the lack of the drivers is what is causing me grief now.
Believe me, I'm looking everywhere I can to get information. I've got tons of hours into this now.
Edit: Got the drivers installed and working properly. Still having problems reading from the phone with CDMA.
Edit 2: Had to figure out the proper com port in CDMA, getting warmer.
scanning and finding esn addresses right now! If this thing works I'll be so damn happy!
im still reading up on this, but seeing information that has been corrected over time, then finding some old posts that may be outdated.
using MTTY with all of the steps to superCID... is that actually changing the ESN in one failed, fast swoop? Is it actually doing what CDMA does when scanning/writing?

Hey did you get this to work? I changed my esn last night and the phone works. Can make and receive calls. Only prob is that I can't connect to the internet. I think it is a problem with the user name/password but not sure. I keep getting the 67 error when trying to connect. I only changed the esn and nothing else.
Did you have any luck? If so what about the internet thing? Any help would be much appreciated. Been reading and trying to figure this out for a while now.
Thanks,

Thanks for the reply. No I had not tried the DCD carrier cab. First of all let me get this out of the way. NOOB here.
I tried researching the DCD cab because someone else suggested it and then tried it and it didn't work. I think it might be something with the user name and password for vision service. This is what I did:
Flashed the Touch (it is a sprint touch) to the 6.1 wm latest rom (sprint). Then did the esn swap from my razr (also sprint). After the esn swap I flashed again using the 6.1 sprint rom (just wanted to make sure nothing changed after I did a rom flash). Phone works fine on sprint and I even called them on it and they think it is a razr. I can make and receive calls, voicemail etc. Just can't get the internet working. Just get the 67 error. Any ideas?

Yea I have the old sero plan. It includes unlimited data. I think that is what you mean. I can run opera on it so it is working.

This might be trivial but lets check.
Goto:
Settings/Connections/Connections/Advanced/Select Networks
It should show Sprint in top and Work network in bottom.
Click edit under Sprint and make sure its set to #777
Then try this:
Settings/Personal/Phone/Services/Internet/Get settings
Then have IOTA done by pressing start.
No Internet Still......

Thanks Csquared. I tried this and this is what I got. I also have posted this at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3413006#post3413006 . Not trying to double post but was getting some help over there also.
Phone is working great using the donor ESN but no internet. Here is what I've got:
- Sprint Razr (donor ESN phone) and Sprint Touch (Had bad ESN now has Razr ESN).
- Have Data plan on my Account.
- Did the changes from the original post and phone works fine (can make and receive calls)
- When I try and connect to the internet it gives me error 67, can not connect #777 and 1012 error.
What I have tried:
- Start/settings/services/internet/get settings/ and start IOTA.
- Tried making a new connection under start/settings/connections/connections and setup a new #777 connection.
- Changed Active Profile from 0 to 1 in ##3282#
None of this worked. Under ##3282# my settings are:
User Name:
Active Profile - 1
MIP_MODE - Mobile IP Only
User Name - (My Username)@sprintpcs.com
SPI MN-HA - 4D2
SPI MN-AAA - 4D2
ReverseTunnel Pref - Enable
Home Agent IP Address - 0.0.0.0 (for some reason it will not let me edit this setting)
Primary Home Agent - 0.0.0.0
Second Home Agent - 0.0.0.0
HA Shared Secret (HEX) – Blank
AAA Shared Secret (HEX) – Bunch of characters
Advanced:
ESN - Donor ESN (From Razr)
MSID - My Phone number
Not sure if any of this makes sense. I am just trying to get the internet working. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas. It does say "Preparing vision services" when I try to connect to the internet but always fails with error 67 Username and/or Password incorrect. Also get Cannot Connect Dialed #777. Also get error code 1012 could not prepare Vision services please try again later.
Thanks very much in advance for the help!

Well I know this is prolly not the right thread to put this under however I am not sure which is and the person who started this thread is doing what I wanted to know was possible to do. And second I was wondering how to do it. I am completely noob on this. I did as he did and bought a new phone which ended up having a bad ESN.
I have a Nokia with Verizon and it broke. They wont replace it for me so I went and bought an LGVX9100M. I have been researching for around 4 hours now and cant find a thing if I can take the ESN from my Nokia which is clean and working and put it to the LG to make it work. I am not familiar with any thing that has to do with programming cell phones or using the programs. I am however a pretty quick learner.
Is there a way to do this? Is there a program I need or a way to just do it in the phone? IF I can do this with a program how do I do it and what stuff do I have to replace the numbers with?
Bad ESN's= Unrecovered lost or stolen property, or property with a bill due over its usage.
Helping with Bad ESN's, is like helping repaint a stolen car.

Has anyone figured out how to get GPS working with Verizon again? I Have a xv6900 running NFSFAN's verizon Custom WM6.1 1.14 and I'm not sure what to do.
I have read through this thread http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=61493 but I still haven't found a solution.

The problem appears to be that Verizon is authenticating their aGPS server and if your phone is not valid for aGPS support the 'fix' will no longer work. There a rumors about that Veriosn may offer aGPS support for a fee in the near future because some of their new models are supposed to unlock aGPS first quarter 2009.
What has worked for many is to use the TELUS aGPS server. To do this use QPST like for the original fix, but use the following assignments:
IP: 216.198.139.92
PORT: 8889
Not as fast as the Verizon, but I get locks in about 30 seconds.
Hope this helps.

Here is a post that may have all the fixes and settings you need http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=801450&postcount=130
I took the liberty of just doing a copy/paste of the details for you here as well but you can hit the link for more updates and details on your own
plus the arcsoft MMS cab is over there if you need that to download as well

HOW TO FOR VZW USERS
This will be updated as I discover more.
This has all been done using the clean rom as I had many issues with the other.
What worked on a fresh flash
1. Voice
2. Data
3. SMS
4. All hardware
GPS
1. This is assuming you have already done the agps hack
2. Dial *228 and choose option 1
3. Soft reset the phone
4. Open your favorite gps app and you should have a lock within 30 seconds.
(if that does not work make sure you have location on in the phone settings. Also make sure that under gps settings you have the baud rate set to 4800 and the com port set to 4)
If it still does not work check the following reg settings
[HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL GPS]
\EnableAGPS = 1
\EnableSmartMode = 1
\GPSMode = 4 (should also work as 2)
\NumberFixes = 999999999
\QoSAccuracy = 50
\QoSPerformance = 89
\ServerIP = 195.207.101.126
\ServerPort = 7788
\timeBetweenFixes = 1
MMS
1. Go to connection settings and select "Manage existing connections"
2. edit the only connection there
3. Name it whatever you want ie "vzw"
4. hit next and enter #777 as the number
5. hit next and put "[email protected]" and "vzw" as the password
6. hit finish
7. install the attached arcsoft cab
8. do a soft reset.
9. open phmregedit in the start menu
10. navigate to HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\ArcsoftMMS UA\Config\mm1\WspHeader\X-VzW-MDN and put your 10 digit phone number for the value
11. wait a min or two and do a soft reset
12. go into messaging select menu and then mms options
13. select the server tab
14. select verizon wireless and change connect via to "the internet", the other settings should be correct.
15. wait a few min and perform a soft reset once more
16. now mms should work!!!
Not sure what the deal is with the GPS's not working. Mine has not stopped working. I attempted the aGPS fix in the beginning but it would not work for. I am running NFSFAN's ROM & my GPS is working without an issue. Granted I unlocked my phone with 2.31 before upgrading to VZW's 6.1 ROM & never let the customizations run.
This guy has the right idea here ---> http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36377
I had been searching for WEEKS.. I'm freshly in my NFS6.5 V7 with no customizations ran other than NFS's, I went and did what the guy said at ppc geeks, except I didn't install the gps registry cab he tells you to..
In both QPST and the registry [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\SUPL AGPS] I did this
PDE IP Address = 66.174.95.132
PDE Port Number = 8888
(Only QPST)PDE Transport = IP
(Only QPST)Position Calculation = mobile
with GPSMode: 4
**** works beautifully..
in google maps i DONT let it automatically find GPS, i put it to com4 4800..
i get about 5-6 active, occasionally going upwards around 7-8 but no more, works for me
although im currently looking for another gps program to use, google maps isnt bad but i wanna see if theres better free ones out there, if anyone has suggestions please let me know
I take it back it worked for about 4 hours and now no longer locks, in google maps it'll say "seeking GPS satellite (479001920).." and sometimes cut down to "seeking GPS satellites (5).." and go back and forth quickly.. at first when i got it working it would lock in on the 5 after like 10 seconds, now no luck
to bad, hopefully it comes around on its own lol.. or ill try a few changes now that i have a basis
edit: NEVERMIND.. had the problem for about 30-40 minutes (which lead to me posting to let anyone who might read what i did know the same might happen to them) and now it started to work again on its own just fine
GPS on verizon
I want to know if the GPS will use data or not, my phone has a data block and I still have the WM6.1 original rom. I was thinking to the what the last post did but it shows that it edits ip address.
Is there a way to keep the rom but use the gps without using data?

You are no the only having difficulties but I have run out of ideas.
The only thing that I can offer is look at the registry settings.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ----SOFTWARE ----> HTC ----> SUPL AGPS
EnableGPS = 1
GPSMode =2 I have changed this to a 4 & been able to lock.
You can try tweaking these & see if it helps. If you are able to get a lock change them back. It usually takes the longest to obtain the first lock. Some people have experienced in excess of 15 minutes.

I searching for GPS and have found it difficult to "sift" out the aGPS mixed in with the GPS... and of course, that is what determines whether a data connection is required. I have the Data Block and want to only use the Satelites.
So my questions....
In my registry the above location lists only
EnableAGPS = 1
not
EnableGPS = 1
Do I need to edit out the A in AGPS to read only GPS?
Do I need both entries?
If both should I change "EnableAGPS = 1" to the value 0?
I will keep "sifting", but if anyone can answer the above or point to a thread where the posts are purely about "GPS" without aGPS mixed in, I would REALLY appreciate the answers or link
In order to use the GPS with no data, set the following:
\EnableAGPS = 0
\EnableSmartMode = 0
\GPSMode = 0
With these settings you will only use the sats. Warning: That first lock may take a long time.

Thanks for the reply.
I may still be confused with all that has happened since the Touch/Vogue came out...(I have actually read too much and hacked too little so far) I am a new owner, and so I am wondering how many of the early posted problems were eliminated now that WinMo6.1 comes standard instead of an upgrade, as well as having an updated radio 3.37.78.
In my reading people are posting that this radio works for accessing GPS (though they may actually be reporting success with aGPS)... but do I still need to use the coke unlocker? or is this only for ROM flashing? Also if I flash one of NFSFANS ROMs will this "fix" any GPS setting problems I may or may not have?
My apologies for any noobiness, I tried to pay my dues searching but... not all the threads are clean nor all the post clear. (nothing new in the forum world)
Edit
Answers to my questions^^^
coke unlocker has to be used activate GPS radio
Radio 3.37.78 works fine for GPS
NFSFANs ROMs are built for Vogues with active GPS radios.
If anyone is interested I have got A-GPS working on my TP2, unbranded standard WWE ROM, Vodafone UK network.

Note you will need to change the APN, network and GPRS connection to suit your network
This fix definatly works on my phone, I have analysed the debug logs and the NMEA logs and can see the data being downloaded and injected into the driver.
I now get a cold GPS fix in less than 20 seconds, whereas with AGPS turned off I could be waiting for 5 minutes or more for a cold fix.
To see if it is working on your Phone, first you should see a GPRS data connection established then using the HTC GPS test tool to examine the NMEA data you should see a $GPCELL entry after a few seconds.
Hope this helps.
Tom
hey Tom, something you might find of interest,
I had already set up my agps as you have said above with nokis.supl and my agps was workin great, after reading your post i changed the Reg setting for Ril/driver to 1 and SR ( mine was set to 5) as you suggested. and although i was still recieveing the NMEA info, i couldn't get a lock, changed it back to 5 and Lock from cold in 15 seconds!!
I don't know what the decimal 5 instructs and possibly its radio related? i am still using stock 3.44.25.25.27
Anyway great post
Frogfoot, how does the performance with A-GPS enabled compare to the performance with it disabled? How sure are you a) that A-GPS actually is enabled, and b) that it is A-GPS that is making the difference? I ask, because I can get a lock in 10 or 15 seconds with A-GPS turned off. Simply installing the GPS patch did that for me!

I have found that I get a much faster lock when 'cold starting' the GPS, ie after the ephemeris data has expired (if you havent used the GPS for say a week) or you have changed location by say 50 miles since you last used GPS. Without aGPS a cold start would take several minutes, however with aGPS working it takes a matter of seconds. (there is no difference in a 'warm' or 'hot' start scenario).

I installed the debug tools and could see the procedure calls reading the registry entries, opening the GPRS connection downloading the data etc. And I also used the HTC GPS tool to log the NMEA stream and searched through to find the response from the supl.nokia.com server in a string marked $GPCELL

I expect that what you are seeing is what is known as a 'warm start' where the GPS chipset has cached the Almanac and ephemeris data for the last known position and uses that to jump start the connection. That is fine untill you go for a long drive/flight with the GPS off and then it assumes you at the old location or there abouts. This can cause the GPS to think that the wrong satalites are overhead and therefore take longer to lock on. The other scenario which benifits from agps is if you dont use the GPS for a while, the cached Almanac and ephemeris data expires and needs to be downloaded again. This is what causes the long TTFF (time to first fix)
Quick GPS as far as I can gather is supposed to download predicted almanac and ephemeris data for your region and inject that into the GPS driver to facilitate a faster TTFF however I have yet to notice any difference when QuickGPS is up to date as opposed to it having expired data.
Hope this clears it up a bit.
Cheers
Tom

Very interesting, do you usually connect with GSM or 3G? I have only tested this with GSM, and have not experianced the problem you describe.
Tom
For completeness sake here are two useful apps for general GPS testing
CleanGPS.cab, very useful to reset the ephemeris and almanac data and HTC GPS Test tool for diagnosing GPS fix problems
Apologies if this has newbie written all over it... What would I need to change for this to be compatible with T-mobile US service? Looking at the cab registry keys, it looks like I should be fine as is.
Thanks!
Thought I would mention what I've been using on my TP, very similar with a nice cab.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478199&highlight=t-mobile+agps
The only thing you might wanna change is the connection settings to match the name of your data connection...
For the benefit of us newbies, could someone clarify what changes (if any) need to be made to the above registry values to get this working on O2 in the UK (if this is possible)?
Already test mine using agps setting from frogfoot, but it doesn't work on my TP2,
Frogfoot may i know what Radio version you used to enable AGPS on TP2
Thanks
I know my GRPS connection, but is there anybody know what is "APN"? How can I set it?
I found here the APN setting is empty.
