carrier displays as a # after flashing rom???

Has anyone figured out how to get your carrier to display correctly after flashing Rom. My carrier is Cincinnati Bell Wireless and it is now displaying 310420 instead. Thanks

Hey man, I know the search isn't as good as it could be. I knew I'd seen an answer for this and after a couple of searches myself it turned up on page 3 (I think) of "Operator blank".
Anyway the advice to search is just my sig anyway.

there isnt anyway of mapping the alternate characters that you know of is there. I found 1 thread but they didnt know how to do it.. maining if you press and hold the M key down you get the ! instead.....
just figured I'd ask... its my last tweak till the phone is complete.

wasnt exactly what I was looking for. the Dash rom allows you to press a key and hold it in then it displays the alternate character (i.e. of you press and hold the M key in you will get the ! character). from what I have read the s620 doesnt do this right out of the box. I have a dash but reflashed it with the HTC Rom, now I have lost that functionality. you would think this would be a reg hack........I guess I will keep looking. if anyone knows how to make this work I would love to know how...thanks!

What's more irritating, the loss of the ability to hold down a key for the alternate or XT9?
I'd give up the hold a key function if XT9 was gone. Man I hate that...

i didnt realize I didnt have the xt9 capability abymore. but I dont know how much that bothers me. Does the original rom for the s620 not have that capability either???

Lost Data connection

Hello everyone. I'll make this quick and easy question. I have successfully updated to 3.35 radio, and tried several different custom roms in the past 2 weeks... At some point, i lost my internet connection, went back to stock rom successfully, and tried entire process over with and without the new radio (depending on which rom i tried according to instructions) and still no internet. I have spent literally over 4 hours on the phone with bell (Canada) to no avail. Only other option is to beat it with a hammer. I have noticed a couple people have had the same problem.. i have read these and PPC forums for hours and hours and hours, to try and fix this and get my Data connection back. tried almost every Rom i could find... to no avail. I'm just wondering if anybody had a sound fix for getting the Data connection back working again before i go to the store i got it from and freaking out and trying to get a new phone, or sending it off for a warranty claim which they say could take 6-8 weeks. Thanks for your time.

This happened alot when
we were changing radiios
and roms on the Titans.
Most of the time the techs had to reset the
data security on their end. If they cant figure it
out , flash back to stock
radio and rom and go to
the store and swap it
out. Tell them you did
a hard reset and lost your data connection.

if you have another pda phone, get your carrier to activate it on your account, set it up ... get data working ... then get your carrier to switch it back to the one that had lost it's data connection, set it up ... try the data connection ... works every time on vzw ... I do the esn changes online ... give it a try ... couldn't hurt

just spent another hour on the phone with tech Support, he tried resetting the Data Security, completely removing my device from our account and putting it back on, and he also had one of his own Touch's with him, he added it to my account, and it worked fine.. still nothing on mine. Grrrrrrrr!! this is megga frustrating... its been a week 1/2 and now 5+ hour on the phone and an hour at the repair shop yesterday. he re-esclated the problem and now i have to wait again for somebody to call me. I really don't want to have it sent to HTC becuse it will take 6-8 weeks, and i truely think its something in my phone itself as a result of "playing" with it, and i'm just hoping that somebody can come up with something that I havent already tried to get it working again. Thanks for you time once again, and keeping my fingers crossed.

Go to the epst settings.
Find username and password in there ( i guess data parameters??). It will be wrong. [email protected]
change it to the right ones.

that is EXACTLY where i went a week or so ago. i found this information in another post, and the UN is there, but no password, and Bell insists there is no need for username and password... but i disagree... i also think this is the problem.. i really do... any ideas how the heck i can get what my password should be?

in teh Data parameters, the only thing that is in there is Packet Dial String ----#777 In the security section is the UN and Pass. field. Is this where you were talking about maybe?? or is there something missing in the Data Parameters section?? UN showing is [email protected]

GRRRRRR!! This really sucks.!! BIGTIME!. Ive been fooling with this thing since 6Am... lol One thing that i did forget to mention, is... when i say no data, or internet.. this is what happens..
When i try any app. that wants internet, it will bring up the connection screen, "Connecting to Data, network... #777" type thing..... sometimes it will just sit there forever and ever... if i hit cancel... then in order for me to even make a phone call, i have to soft reset.... sometimes... (about 50% of teh time) it will come up with an error screen after about 5 seconds of trying to connect, and it says "Unable to connect for an unknown reason, if you need to view or change settings, tap settings, if teh problem continues reset your device according to manufactures instructions, and try again."
I just downloaded and tried the new Sprint Leaked rom, with the 3.37 radio, and still same thing. i still think it has something to do with the Username and PW in the ##778 settings... because i do remember seing a bunch of (hex) information in the PW field in the past when i was snooping around and now its gone.... I even tried converting the two numbers that bell gave me to Hex and putting them in there... and nothing... the one that i seen in there before was a big ass long one... Anyhow... i'm almost giving up i'm soon going to get extremely angry and beat it or throw it off the 20 floow balcony just for kicks... <g> Thanks for reading.Any help is appreciated.

i am not with bell, so dont know what do they use. Maybe somebody else can confirm if they are supposed to be empty or not.
may be try empty username and password.
Then try the username you have right now and esn as your password.
i know on telus both will work.

A question for xda gurus

Hi,
About two months ago during one of the numerous rom flashings on my SPVM3100 , I came across a strange issue. I called Orange many times and they changed my SIM card twice but finally said they don't understand this and gave it up. My SPVM3100 is over two years old - so they're not gonna replace the device.
Here's the issue:
whenever someone leaves me a voice mail, instead of receiving the normal "voice mail" notification and it's icon in Today screen, I receive a text message! These texts are unreadable (consisting of only 2 signs, like a triangle sign and an @ sign. Or an @ sign with an underline sign _).
Whenever I receive such texts , I know that I have a voice mail ! I dial the voice mail service, listen to the voice message and delete it. But each time my voice mail box becomes empty another annoying text is sent to me - perhaps cofirming that the mail box is now empty (I wish I could read this new sign language )
The phone shows that the texts are coming from the SIM Card !! (so we thought that perhaps the SIM has problems and that's why Orange changed my SIM Card twice).
This is really annoying.
The Orange tech people exhausted their knowledge for the past 2 months but couldn't solve this problem , gave it up altogether , and are now asking me to contact HTC ! (which I'm sure would be useless).
That's why I'm asking this from xda developers and gurus to see if they have any explanation for this bizarre behavior of my device.
Thanks for any insight and sorry to make a thread for this annoying issue.

have you tried flashing with a different rom? i know similar things would happen on motorola phones, and required hex editing of certain files to turn that feature off.

A six-month-old critically annoying problem was solved in 30 seconds
I am sure we all know xda developers and gurus are genius.
As I said in the post, almost all technical guys & gals in Orange did literally exhaust all their knowledge & experience in the past six months to solve this issue but it was obvious that they didn't absolutely have any clue what the cause of the problem was; whereas Olipro had found the cause and the remedy very quickly.
This is really serious because Orange is a huge multi-billion corporation and they claim to have their own top developers/programmers/technicians and yet they shamelessly suck !
Now on to my second question :
On almost all original (HTC and AT&T) ROMs , the HTC Home Plugin shows the network as "Orange". But on some of the cooked ROMs the network is shown as "UMTS Orange". I know the meaning of UMTS and I understand that whether the network is shown as "Orange" or "UMTS Orange" the phone appears to function the same.
I just want to know what happens in some cooked ROMs that the phone recognizes the network of the SIM card as "UMTS Orange" and not the usual "Orange" ? I talked to some Orange technicians, their replies are really rediculous - one of them kept saying: "you must change your mobile settings" ! But she didn't have a clue what she was talking about as she didn't know where those damn "mobile settings" were and how they could be changed! I can swear she had never held an SPVM3100 or a Kaiser in her hand.
I've searched the forum but haven't been able to find a clear answer yet. I am asking this question just to improve my personal knowlege on this issue.

I get the same problem too when installing new Cooked ROMs.
In order to get rid of the 'UMTS' in front of the Operator name you have to edit a registry entry.
Use a registry editor and navigate to: HKLM---> Software---->OEM---->Phone Setting
In there find an entry labelled 'Enable3GLongName' And change it from 1 to 0.
Restart you're device and it should just say 'Orange'

Thanks bro. Yesterday, before reading your reply I reflashed my device and
this nwe Binky11's V3.8 ROM got it right. So for now, I don't need to do the registery; however, I made a note of your advice for future reference.
I should keep reading to see what happens in most cooked WM6.1 ROMs that they get the network name as such and why the original ROMs get it right.

Problem with Software keyboard

does anyone have the qwerty reg settings, now i no longer have that function all i have is regular keyboard or when qwerty is selected i have just numbers...thanks

Anyone???? I dont want to Hard reset my phone again

i had same problem today. soft reset no help. i went to opera and tried to type an address in and the keyboard came back. but after that it happened again. Possible problems: I used the HDtweek to get my word completion restored. I am also running SPB mobile shell. Trying to get a handle on it.

Just typing in the address bar in Opera fixed the keyboard. Did this yesterday and I's still good. I'll post again if the keyboard disappears.

I used Mobile reg editor to get word completion back now I have all kinds of crazy keyboard problems. I am currently using Resco Keyboard but would still like the one that comes with the T-Mo TP2 if anyone has those Reg keys available...Tj

here is the tread in the tmobile forums for the keyboard settings. I used hdtweek to reset the setting according to this thread. It also has some reg settings you might want to look at. I hope it helps.

No problem. And yes I like this keyboard also. I just discovered you can type numbers by just holding down the top row-no need to shift to the number keyboard. On my Tilt, I used Zoomboard. I loved that keyboard because you could slide left or right if you hit the wrong key. I might go back to that once I get the Touch Pro 2 down pat.

Both of you "fixed" the loss of the TouchPal Keyboard (the one where you hold the key till the number is highlighted) by undoing the word completion reg change. No way to have your cake and eat it to. I have lost this keyboard three times now (fixed with Sprite Backup Restore) and ended with that softkeyboard that has the p and w and the numbers only.

Actually I have the touchpad keyboard and word completion. However, I still get the disappearing keyboard every once in a while. (I think it happens when I use internet explorer.) when this happens i simply open Opera and type anything in the address bar at the top and the keyboard magically reappears. It stays good for awhile. I think its internet explorer that breaks it, but im not sure. I use opera most of the time anyway. As I stated earlier, I used HDtweek and the known good instructions in the Tmobile forum the get word completion working again.
The disappearing keyboard is rare now so I'm living with it for now.

help getting qwerty text entry

Okay so ive been browsing this site for a few days, each day spending hours trying to find the solution to my issue. and i havnt found it yet.
***I bought this phone off somebody, it wasnt mine originally. already came with WM 6.1 and alot of other stuff***
my problem isnt that i want T9 texting instead of the predictive type(like mostly all of the ones i find)
my problem is that my phone is stuck in some hybrid qwerty/standard cell text entry. the pads that are grey (Numbers) are stuck assuming i want to type useing them as a standard cell. ( multi-tap)
but what i want is for the button to be used as its QWERTY. all the solutions involve downloading some keymap. but i already have done that, and used all of the Tegic ET9 keymaps. none of them change the text enrty.
then i find that im supposed to hold ALT and press space, well my ALT button appears to not work. so then that doesnt help either. thers no way i can find to get full QWERTY texting, which makes it annoying that it even has a full keypad that i can only half use.
does anyone see my issue? can anyone help?
is there a way to go back to predictive type and maybe that will bring back QWERTY?

okay, so after EVEN more reading and researching, i see that i can either try a remap (which im pretty sure i have tried) or reseting back to original ROM.
which i dont want to do really, because i kind of like the 6.1 build.
a new question i have is, if i upgrade to the 6.5 i see on this site, will that fix my problem?
is my ALT key broke? i see the same problem happened to alot of people, but i dont think that we can all have ONE similar broken key, resulting in the exact same problem. seems kind of... odd?
so yeah. if anyone could help, that would be awesome...

Hmmm... I know that in the ROM threads there are multiple posts of keymap files. Try using one of those.... If that doesn't work, then definitely do a reflash. Realize that you CAN go to the original ROM, and then go back to whatever you want, going back to the original may clear up some issues (or tell you if it is the ROM that is causing the problem.) ANother alternative is HARD-RESET, which is like flashing a new ROM, but not exactly, it just clears the memory to "factory default" (or just the basic ROM files that were originally installed)

okay, so im thinking of just trying these steps, tell me if this should work.
1. hard reset
- keymap/ xt9 and see if that works
2. rom downgrade to original
-see if that works with maybe the xt9
3. after downgrade, upgrade to 6.5
-with all the many fixes this should work?

oh and im just going to give my older sister this phone, she doesnt use phones to the extent that i do. so if i go to 6.5 would it be user-friendly for her? i still need to fix this text entry problem tho.
and how long do you think this would take?
