i had same problem today. soft reset no help. i went to opera and tried to type an address in and the keyboard came back. but after that it happened again. Possible problems: I used the HDtweek to get my word completion restored. I am also running SPB mobile shell. Trying to get a handle on it.

Just typing in the address bar in Opera fixed the keyboard. Did this yesterday and I's still good. I'll post again if the keyboard disappears.
I used Mobile reg editor to get word completion back now I have all kinds of crazy keyboard problems. I am currently using Resco Keyboard but would still like the one that comes with the T-Mo TP2 if anyone has those Reg keys available...Tj

No problem. And yes I like this keyboard also. I just discovered you can type numbers by just holding down the top row-no need to shift to the number keyboard. On my Tilt, I used Zoomboard. I loved that keyboard because you could slide left or right if you hit the wrong key. I might go back to that once I get the Touch Pro 2 down pat.

Both of you "fixed" the loss of the TouchPal Keyboard (the one where you hold the key till the number is highlighted) by undoing the word completion reg change. No way to have your cake and eat it to. I have lost this keyboard three times now (fixed with Sprite Backup Restore) and ended with that softkeyboard that has the p and w and the numbers only.

Actually I have the touchpad keyboard and word completion. However, I still get the disappearing keyboard every once in a while. (I think it happens when I use internet explorer.) when this happens i simply open Opera and type anything in the address bar at the top and the keyboard magically reappears. It stays good for awhile. I think its internet explorer that breaks it, but im not sure. I use opera most of the time anyway. As I stated earlier, I used HDtweek and the known good instructions in the Tmobile forum the get word completion working again.
The disappearing keyboard is rare now so I'm living with it for now.

On messages especially sometimes if I type too fast (and I can type very fast ) it misses out letters or just pauses for ages.
Most of the time the first letter I type in a message gets repeated. Sometimes it just decides to repeat one letter as if the key was stuck down.
On top of this messaging and any application where the device is trying to bring up a user input component is SLOW.
Ive not seen these problems mentioned anywhere yet. Is it just me?

No, I've got the same problem. But I don't use that keyboard all that much. The main point for me was to get a phone/PDA with WLAN built in, something I believe the 9090 was first with.

isn't it possible to somehow replace the messaging module? i use the keyboard very often and this can get really annoying..
I cannot speak for everyone, but I have found a solution that works.
Apparently, the Messaging applet is not getting enough clock cycles to properly process the keyboard input.
For me, simply closing Internet Explorer does the trick. (go into Memory, and make sure it's not listed in Running Programs) Try it now.
If it still occurs, soft reset the phone, and then attempt to use Messaging. Does the problem still occur? Probably not.
Let me know if this solves the issue. I will look more into it when I get the free time.
I found the keyboard horribly slow. That's straight after resets of all kinds and definately no IE.
I have the repeating problem at times, and I never run IE or any other programs at the same time minimized. I use PocketPlus, so programs aren't minimized, they are closed.

just installed rom 1.60c in my gf's qtek 2020 and it's fast as hell! messaging too..dont understand this strange behavior on the BA..
About the keyboard repeating, you can reduce the repeat rate at the keyboard settings..

I downgraded back to WM2003 SE because message writing was such a pain. I would like to have WM5 but if and when someone can correct the messaging application.

updated my Blue Angel to WM5 today and found no problem with typing. TheGadgetGuy's probably right about the memory.
I used to have the problem if I would type to fast it would repeat a lot, example "test" would be "testtttttttttttttttttttttt", I found a way to fix it:
A lot of people have been complaining with the same problems with the thumbboard in WM2005, well I found a way to fix it. As you know if you type really fast like a lot of us do with the thumbboard it will repeat and get stuck on a letter, example "fix" turns into "fixxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" then you have to backspace it all. Well let's just cut to the chase, the way to fix it is goto your Start > Settings > System > Keyboard > and goto Repeat Settings, and turn them all the way off (To the left). Tah dah, enjoy .

Had all sorts of problems with WM5, one of the most annoying was this keyboard lag... I type a lot of SMS with it so this made the device unuseable for me.
Happily went back to 2003SE
The blue angel is the biggest pyle htc ever released. That is what is wrong with the ba.

The only hardware issue I can see with the Blue Angel is with the Radio (Both Bluetooth and WiFi) in that they both seem to be poor in range and BT unstable. That said, BT in particular, may still be a software issue as under WM5 it seems a whole lot more reliable ...
To say the BA is a Pyle (Pile?) based on the fact that an internal thrown together version of WM5 (Trust me, this is the case if you do a bit of Hex editing on a decrypted nbf file and see all the temporary bootloader code which has references to ALL HTC devices by codename) is lacking in areas is not really a solid deduction. From what I have seen of this version of WM5 which has arguably been created in weeks rather than months like version 2003SE, I would say that it is on the whole a very impressive software and hardware solution.
I only hope HTC take the decision to officially update the BA to WM5 in order to fully eliminate all the software bugs in WM2003SE as even the current version of WM5 seems to me a whole lot better than even the latest patched WM2003SE version.
I cannot see it would take them a great deal more engineering time to correct the few issues that remain such as speed tweaks and the odd driver / software update to release a very impressive WM5 version. As Maimach has already proven a number of issues were quite simple to fix (Well, for someone as clever as Mamaich anyway!!!) ...

Bebbo, I'm afraid that won't happen because of the wish to make people buy new hardware instead of upgrading the stuff they already have. Remember that the biggest selling point of the Wizard and Universal is the WM5. So can HTC create a good WM5? Of course! Will their customers (not us, the providers, Dangaard and Brightpoint) allow them to? Probably not.
Well about the only thing that worked on WM5 was bluetooth...

How annoying. I think I'm going back to WM2003se. WM5 isn't that great. It behaves alot like WM2003fe except buggy :S It's not worth all the hastle just for on screen soft keys.
I've got the o2 version of the Artemis, had it for a few weeks now and very happy with it. The only problem I've found is that when the device is restarted it sets the default text input as the on screen keyboard and not Transcriber (which I prefer) Is there any way I can set the default method as Transcriber from start-up?
I would happily choose the transcriber each time but clicking the keyboard icon to choose the input from the menu causes a delay of 20-30 seconds for some reason. Does anyone know why this is?

And once the menu has been displayed I'd expect it to be quicker the second or third time which it isn't. Could anyone else running the standard o2 build confirm if their's has any delays? I have the same trouble, although not to the extent that you have. I have the T9 input cab, and the text message input dfaults to the keyboard which I find useless as I can't use my finger to do it. I click on the select input icon and it can take 5-6 seconds before it opens.
bit annoying but I get used to it.
I don't have that delay - I use HappyTapping, and T9 input.
Search for a program called AC IMSelecter on here or on google. It lets you overide default keyboard choice, and has helped solve some problems I've had with non-standard keyboards displaying incorrectly.
I think I found it bundled in a HappyTapping keyboard zip.

I've just installed the SIP Select program as I couldn't find the one you mentioned Squire. Have got to soft reset to see if it works but need to copy the shortcut into my startup folder first. Cheers for the help guys.

Those with the problems - have you installed the Microsoft Voice Commander? This is suspected of causing a massive SIP menu delay.
I've got a solution to improve the speed in switching SIP. Just try to export the registry of HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT_CLSID and import it again. And after that you'll feel much better when you switch SIP.
Don't ask me the reason, because I've no idea at all...
I did have it installed but quickly realised I hardly use it so uninstalled it. Perhaps its left some unwanted registry entries? Does anyone know of a program that can remove unnecessary registry entries for WM5?

If you have the time, download the WM5 emulator stand-alone for PC, install it there and do all your testings.

I've installed Vocie Commander, only had the Orbit a few days and now this bug is apparent. It's a real pain!! Anyone got any ideas yet?
Edit: SIP Select startup link worked a treat!!

TOMTOM does not need speedy processor, but when you change sip, yes, the speed of processor counts. So just be patient, 5-10 seconds will be ok for you.

Has anyone tried this. Did it work?? I'm fairly new to the Ordbit/XDA and am not sure how I got about this.
Also, anyone experiencing this problem got any ideas?
If someone has the time and can identify the changed registry key(s) that is left behind using the steps above this can be solved for everyone.

I use SKTools/Inputmetodes.....I set tht letterrecognicer as default, deactiveted all other inputmetodes, so I havn´t any problems, ´cause I want to have just 1 inputmetode.

That's fair enough, I use SIPselect to default the block recogniser, but the issue remains that if I want to swap between Block recogniser and T9 pad it'll take ages.

I installed the diamond keyboard and it screwed up my autocomplete for the To field of a sms. Checked all the settings and everything and nothing, removed it and all is fine. I still like the HTC phone pad better.

It's almost the exact opposite for me. When I use the "To:" field in a new SMS, I just type the first couple of letters of the persons name into the field and hit enter, and the keyboard offers up the names that match that in the auto-complete field. Working fantastic on my Hermes.

It works fine on my Hermes, but scratch what I said above. It has totally disabled contact auto-complete from the hardware keyboard. In addition, I've tried to uninstall it three times and it just hangs at the screen where it's doing the uninstallation, with the spinning Windows thing, forever until I soft reset the phone. I'm thinking I may have to do a hard reset to get this thing off my phone.
Has anyone had trouble uninstalling this from their phone?
I have it working- I like it a lot actually. I used to like the old HTC phone pad, and this is like that but a little more polished. The word prediction works well.
Don't know If i'm going to stick with it- want to see how it eats memory, etc.

Okay, you're right, it did uninstall. I probably could have taken a nap in the time it took to do it, but it finally did. I'm back to the old trusty phone pad as well.

The keyboard is still there, working fine. But the option to uninstall it is now gone. I would really like to get rid of it, so if there are any one who's got any bright ideas I'm open to suggestions... (I did soft-reset the device after the "uninstall")
Can't get alphabets from the keyboard. Just the digits and no way to get it. If any one knows about the settings it requires the please update. I have uninstalled it successfully.

I have NFSFAN's 6.5 rom on my htc touch. Everything works great except I cannot get word completion to disable. I turn everything off under Settings/Personal/Input but it remains enabled. I have even let it save the settings and restart.
The reason I want it disabled is 75% of the time it does not take the first word (or entire sentence) unless i click the keyboard, click the input area and then start typing. It's very frustrating.
Any known fixes?
I suspect that this is a general bug with the current versions of WM 6.5 that are floating around. I have this problem with this rom, but my friend who has a diamond and a completely different wm 6.5 rom also has the same problem. Perhaps I'm wrong, but it happens to both of us a lot.
Okay so ive been browsing this site for a few days, each day spending hours trying to find the solution to my issue. and i havnt found it yet.
***I bought this phone off somebody, it wasnt mine originally. already came with WM 6.1 and alot of other stuff***
my problem isnt that i want T9 texting instead of the predictive type(like mostly all of the ones i find)
my problem is that my phone is stuck in some hybrid qwerty/standard cell text entry. the pads that are grey (Numbers) are stuck assuming i want to type useing them as a standard cell. ( multi-tap)
but what i want is for the button to be used as its QWERTY. all the solutions involve downloading some keymap. but i already have done that, and used all of the Tegic ET9 keymaps. none of them change the text enrty.
then i find that im supposed to hold ALT and press space, well my ALT button appears to not work. so then that doesnt help either. thers no way i can find to get full QWERTY texting, which makes it annoying that it even has a full keypad that i can only half use.
does anyone see my issue? can anyone help?
is there a way to go back to predictive type and maybe that will bring back QWERTY?
okay, so after EVEN more reading and researching, i see that i can either try a remap (which im pretty sure i have tried) or reseting back to original ROM.
which i dont want to do really, because i kind of like the 6.1 build.

is my ALT key broke? i see the same problem happened to alot of people, but i dont think that we can all have ONE similar broken key, resulting in the exact same problem. seems kind of... odd?

Hmmm... I know that in the ROM threads there are multiple posts of keymap files. Try using one of those.... If that doesn't work, then definitely do a reflash. Realize that you CAN go to the original ROM, and then go back to whatever you want, going back to the original may clear up some issues (or tell you if it is the ROM that is causing the problem.) ANother alternative is HARD-RESET, which is like flashing a new ROM, but not exactly, it just clears the memory to "factory default" (or just the basic ROM files that were originally installed)

okay, so im thinking of just trying these steps, tell me if this should work.
1. hard reset
- keymap/ xt9 and see if that works
2. rom downgrade to original
-see if that works with maybe the xt9
3. after downgrade, upgrade to 6.5
-with all the many fixes this should work?

oh and im just going to give my older sister this phone, she doesnt use phones to the extent that i do. so if i go to 6.5 would it be user-friendly for her? i still need to fix this text entry problem tho.
