[Theme] Leather [JFv1.4x ADP1.1h/RC33/RC9 - Updated 03/10/09]

Hey all.
Given the difficulties in creating themes for the new RC33/ADP1.1h releases I figured I would take a proper stab at it, starting from scratch. My previous attempts were nothing but sloppy ports of the Rusty Metal theme, from ADP1.1/RC30 to RC33, and everyone who's been following the Rusty Metal theme knows that it did not work as intended.
So, here we are, starting from scratch (on an ADP1.1h image). Initially I was gonna remake the Rusty Metal theme, from scratch, but to be honest I'm sick of that theme, so now I'm creating a new one called Leather. Oh, and don't worry; not the Blue Oyster Bar kind of leather, but rather old book cover stitched leather meets Texas ranch leather. Add some cherry wood to the mix too and we've got a theme.

As usual, you try this theme our at your own risk. I have installed and reinstalled it on my ADP1.1h phone at lest a dozen times tonight, with no issues, but that does not guarantee anything. If you do try it out, remember to backup first!

Current status.
Complete: Wallpaper, status bar, clock dial/hands, folder icons, launcher tray handle (port + land).
In progress: Battery, wifi, signal indicators.
Next step: Not sure, possibly the dialer.

Unfortunately the time I can spend on this theme is very limited, so I probably won't delve too deep and try to theme every little detail. I'll stick to the large elements for now. If you're on JFv1.43 ADP1.1h and want to help beta testing, let me know. I might need help when the theme nears completion. That was a blatant lie actually, a theme is never complete. But still.

Manny...you know you can always count on me. My favorite thing about you is the love you have for ADP1.1...I'm freakin dyin over here with a stock looking phone lol. I was going to finally try my hand at making on myself, but I couldnt find an ADP1.1h update to base it from...and I have ADD(more likely it's no patience and/or ability to focus), I finally have an understanding of what I have to do...just not the time to devote to it right now...so until then I rely on you, and the other creative patient people out there. Are you planning on entering anything in the contest? I hope you enter something...but not THIS one, cause I need it now, lol. J/K...I would love to see you enter something=)

I probably won't be entering the competition though, my time is very limited.. and some of the guys are just on a different level, especially in terms of theme depth/detail. I can't compete with that.
If you don't mind sporting a work in progress I could drop you the current (early) beta in a PM. The theme is far from done yet, of course, but if you desperately want to get away from the stock theme it'll do

Interesting indeed... will this be an all leather or maybe U.S. South Western theme (kind of similar) either way it, looks great! if you where going for a southwestern approach, a cow skull clock with horns would be really cool...

I love this theme so far...you really are my favorite theme maker. I'm both glad and sad you won't be competing. I love your work, but if you entered I may have to remove myself as a judge. I kid...kind of
I am running this with the stock plain grey wallpaper and it is amazing. Very simple, yet classic. It have a very "rich" look to it. Can't wait=)

lol i think I have a Bad Memory card Everytime I try to install the theme i get a message of [bad] and it aborts the install. It happens on both computers I have on two different networks. I will try my other memory card here in a few hours.

I don't know if it is just me, of the portal looks like something out of engadget.com (Overrated and super biased towards everything Apple). I really don't like it that much although it is much cleaner and simple.

well the only thing I would change is the color scheme...
I kinda like black and blue...
and maybe the logo could be different...but apart from these, the new portal is totally awesome....very informative, I like the top threads and devices panel...really nice work guys!
Maybe you can make an XDA-developers logo contest...there sure are a lot of graphic artists here (I am myself)...so everyone can contribute and we can have some challenge and fun

Yeah, a logo contest would be great, there are indeed many talented people here. Also the design is a bit simplistic, not bad but could be better .
But do you really think Wordpress is good for such a big site, where there eventually should be user-submission, categorization and much more? Drupal or perhaps a custom CMS seems much better suited, I think.

Glad you guys generally like it. Coming up with a design to please as many people as possible was no easy task and we went through many versions. The front page is currently in beta mode, so not everything is working or looks right.
Our next project is a redesign of the forum to correspond with the new portal. That launch is a couple of weeks (or a bit more) away.

The new interface look wicked.

My immediate suggestion is to lighten the main menu bar from the very dark brown to something more like the forums main menu color. It's easier on the eyes and brings the right amount of focus to it. Just like the pic attached.

I honestly don't like the look at all. It's too engadgety. I want this to be our OWN SITE! Something that includes everyone and not just Apple products.

I think it looks great, and I also like the logo ... It's true, svetius, when tinkering with a site this huge, the # of opinions and disappointments you're going to get is huge.

This is my 1st post, just wanted to say how useful this site is. Iv been educating myself about Android for the last 3 months, finally ordered myself a Hero today, i knew it was time to register.

Theft, theft, theft. As far as I know everyone here uses eachothers work to create something new. Its quite normal on XDA, the mistake made here was that he should have given you some credit for your work. I agree with you untill that point. And im using simply galaxy and this music player fits way better with my theme than your crysis themed one. So it is useful and original in the way that is differentiates itself from other themes..

agreed man, but he should've asked me, as many others did, and give the credits. I never said no to someone when used my battery and so on... but I encourage inspiration, he should put his head at contribution and do something original. Many apps you see "themed" today, are getting just an color change and that's it. Nothing deep....

Come on man, he took 2 pngs. I had a case that one user took half of my theme (much much more pngs), and the other half was from 5 other themes and only who didn't get credit was me. It is not nice, but also there were a lot of people that used his theme and that is what is important, to please more people.

yes man, you have your right, I have seen your work and I respect you for that. But isn;t bothering when you work weeks for something, brick your phones and flash it over and over again, and when you hae done all the work, some guy sees a little spot missed by you, he fixes and gets all the credit.
XDA should be about innovation, not reinventing the wheel... I think you must agree with that! With no innovation.... nothing new... just changing some colors...

I just help the guy who is responsible for the valle-mod theme. I'm no developer or something. And i don't have as much knowledge about photoshop like you. But at least i try to make something, that matches the valle-mod theme. And make people happy with my work. That's what this is about. And i don't want to ''steal'' something from you. As i said, i already deleted the two PNG's. So there is no need to say i stole it from you or something like that. It's just a theme that matches the valle-mod theme.

Yes, I agree. I was mad, but I kept it to myself. Once I sent a PM to user who also had a lot of my pngs in his theme, but that was it. I know that it is really good to do something all new, but this user took only 2 pngs from your theme. After all, some people liked my theme just with battery icons changed (also done by some other user) and I respect that because I can't please everyone with one theme. Hope you understand, I do understand you and he should give you credit for that.

sorry man for that erruption, but I had a rough day and I just got too mad on you without a real reason. Went for a walk and now I'm relaxed and I see things from another point of view

saw a distinct likeness with the old textures from tayutama's early eclair/froyo theme in a fairly recent theme *whistle* kinda missed those good to see em put to use once again

[Request] Request to all theme makers

Hi all,
We are having various themes currently for our s3, but if you people note one thing all of them are based on blue color or using blue as the base(which become a trend from the debut of ics). The thing is there were many beautiful themes for galaxy series mobiles during the gingerbread rom period, but once the ics got released most of those beautiful themes were buried and didnt make it to ics.
So i here by request all the themers to kindly consider this as a request to resurrect good old themes to our galaxy s3. This also would be helpful for themers from other mobile section to port them so that the theme wont be dead again. I dunno whether it is possible to port some old themes , but atleast we can give it a 2nd thought about the possibility and also porting a theme(editing images, xmls,resizing etc etc) is a very long and time consuming process, but for the sake of our xda community we cannot afford to lose those beautiful themes. .
i also request our thread members to post the themes they like/feel missing here in this thread along with the name so that our themers can get a chance to go through the possibility of porting/resurrecting it.
ill post a few good old themes here now as example.(sorry search is not working as of now , so im posting a few randomly selected old themes link which may/may not be good) .

Hate to sound like an ungrateful SOB, but I feel also that theme development has been very disappointing. Seems like most themers are working solely for AOSP/AOKP/CM9. Obviously it's their work, their decision, but nonetheless disappointing.
I'm seriously considering trying - again - to learn how to theme. Reckon I can get it sussed by 2025.....

Try blackcolors theme by eladios.that's more like old theme and it's a morp theme so it works on all Sammy.

First request to themers at the moment should be to use Villain Theme System, so that you can use several mods combined.
ATM there are plenty of Mods outside you can't combine because they replace a whole framework or systemui, even this is not needed.

It's really not that hard. There are plenty of guides. I learned as I went along, starting with changing images, learning about .9.pngs and then editing XML's. If you ever need any help please PM me.

Even before ICS came in ICS themes floated for various devices..
Over the period of time Blue lost its charm(personal opinion)...perhaps too much blue in every ROM
Well all i have to say is "Get over the mundane blue !" Lets bring more colours themer's.. Probably this is one of those posts where folks can chime in and say .. we need some thing different.

It's funny that you should say that but I think we are in the minority. The most popular theme by far is ICS Domination by Vertumus which is blue and there are a lot of others out there and other colours were not so successful. My red theme has some followers but nothing of that level of interest. It seems that blue is very popular.

We can't say other themes generate enough interest, say for example when we had s2 no good theme was released to generate public interest after the release of ics.
The theme in the above post looks wonderful.

I know from the amount of downloads that I got per page view that there was very little interest. There were good themes released after ICS but mostly for AOSP/AOKP/CM9. This is because custom ROM makers moved to AOSP/AOKP/CM9 and themers need to theme for the ROMS that people download. I wanted to make my own theme for stock ROMS so that I didn't have to wait for custom ROM and theme updates.
Maybe I'll be lucky and take advantage of the relative lack of themes for the SGS3 to get attention.

Theme Preview Out Now!!!!!
I've just posted a first preview of my theme. When my SGS3 arrives I'll get moving. In the mean time if someone wants to flash it and post a screenshot in the thread it will help me out.

XDA Classic Theme.

Not that I was super active poster in the recent years, but I was more or less always here.
I had the pleasure to read about the last happenings and so on....
Well that pleasure ended few weeks ago when I was forced to switch from my beloved and usable yellowish theme to one of the "modern" ugly/heavy/unusable themes.
I hoped in a temporary malfunction or about a scheduled maintenance but, after many week passed, is clear that it was removed on purpose.
I understand that kids tend to prefer the novelty and/or sleekness over a proven working thing, but designers /webmasters should remember that the audience is made also by people used to simple things that are just working and that don't need to be "improved", think to the almost perfect W7 style start menu and compare it with W10's one (which is already a step back).
Think to Android Gingerbread, somewhat rough and primitive, but with an unmatched usability by any of the "sleeker" following version
So as my friend the CEO of Vivaldi is used to say, "when in doubt make it an option", which is exactly the opposite of what happened here.
So pleease get the classic theme back or at least add a theme that mimic the removed one just like many other forums did when forced to upgrade the board engine for whatever reason (see My Digital Life, for example).
I'm sure my opinion here is shared by many others although not the majority of the userbase.

Is classic supposed to be the old xda theme? This one:

Because it doesn't look like that at all, looks the same as the others with a few changes to the colors maybe (honestly can't tell the difference, nothing 'classic' about it as far as I can see).

Old prior XDA Classic is history. The new themed light/dark Classic is the closest match your going to have...

Can you put a screenshot of the new light dark classic? It looks just the same as the others to me.

Don't be daft, you know I'm talking about the design of the site.

I see you prefer to back blindly whatever decision is taken in the "high spheres" rather than discussing the matter.
Is not a good way to discuss, just replying with preformatted sentences like "the classic theme is dead, period".
The point is that a good theme was first removed, then replaced by a theme with the same name which has nothing to do with it, not even the colour palette!!!
So to summarize
before: who didn't like it had a choice of many modernish/metroish themes
after: who miss it has no choice other than an ugly theme which is "classic" only in its name.
As I said before, zillions of other forums boards where replaced/upgraded, for technical/security reasons, forcing them to leave behind the historical themes, but at least the webmasters attempted to provide something that resembled, as much as possible, the gone theme.
MDL forum is a notable example, but there are many others.
Why this is not done here (one of most technical forum around the web) is just beyond me.
