I have been given a HTC Diamond with WM6.1. It is locked to "Bouygues Telecom" in France and has the French language installed.
I need to a). Unlock the phone so it will accept my O2 SIM and b). change the language to English.
Can someone please advise how I proceed with this, many thanks in advance.
Go to HTC Diamond section. There you'll found full info about unlocking and flashing this phone.
One thread only pls.
Go to diamond forum, search for sim unlock, hardspl and rom flashing, it will fit your needs.

not sure about that device but other htc pda's have the language in the rom so a new rom would be needed
a WWE rom mean world wide english
do i need to unlock vario first before i use the WWE rom ?
donno i never even had a sim locked phone i
dont really know what the tech behind net lock is
but i did see a ton off posts about it in the upgrade universal forum
that is if there are no posts about in the the forum (wizard) for your device
as far as i know those 2 devices are the first ones to be net locked

I just got my MDA compact IV (here in holland) as upgrade. It's all in dutch, how do I change the language? do I have to re-flash with another ROM? how do I re-install windows mobile after? How do I check if the phone is sim locked?

You will have to do a CID unlock , to flash the rom.
To unlock you need the network lock code.

and there is vodafone branded firmware on the phone
how can i unlock it so it has the orignal htc diamond rom an i can use it with all other providers ?

Yes you need to install HardSPL to install a non-Swedish ROM as the phones are region locked and HardSPL region unlocks it (not sim unlock) this allows you to install cooked ROMs or official ROMs from HTC for another region.

Although you may like to browse the cooked ROMs once you've installed HardSPL as you can use the,m too after that.

Yes because if it sim unlocked it does not effect the region ROM locking that HTC or the carrier put i place which is why you need hardSPL to unlock the bootloader so it will allow you to install unofficial and official ROMs from other regions or carriers! So the answer is yes.
