I've tested these settings by driving around my local neighbourhood.
Changing the Radio version:
latest radio is 1.12.25.16. I haven't noticed really any difference.
Registry Settings:
Under: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\
- Drivers\GpsOneDevice\PollInterval -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Drivers\InputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
- Drivers\OutputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
- Drivers\SleepOnNoData -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Multiplexer\MaxBufferSize -> 512 (by default not present, you have to create it)
Changing the GPS Baud Rate.
-Go to screen where you configure your gps device in tomtom (the one that shows the sattelite positions)
-Configure
-select Other NMEA GPS receiver
-change baud rate to 57600
-I chose com port 4
Does anyone else have some settings which should be tried. So far I haven't noticed any great differences.
Has anyone come up with some ideal GPS tweaks for TomTom 7 on Touch HD?
I have flashed the latest radio 1.09.25.14
I've also changed according to Omega01
Under: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\
- Drivers\GpsOneDevice\PollInterval -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Drivers\InputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
- Drivers\OutputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
- Drivers\SleepOnNoData -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Multiplexer\MaxBufferSize -> 512 (by default not present, you have to create it)
I've read elsewhere to change the pollinterval to 3000 instead, so i will also give that a try.
For me the Touch HD tomtom screen refresh rate is very laggy There are numerous threads about it here. In comparison to my trusty Palm Tx (with bluetooth reciever) it falls far behind the 8 ball.
I've done a search of all the blackstone tomtom threads and haven't found any registry tweaks specific to Blackstone GPS tweaking.
There is a thread in the Raphael forum
I tried these settings, but frankly they're rubbish I didn't notice any change in screen refresh lag.
I also tried out my bluetooth gps reciever but that didn't make any difference.

my tomtom works without special settings without problems
cheers
Aha I must have chosen the top one, when the newest radios are at the bottom. I will flash my radio right away.
Tomtom works fine alright. The screen refresh rate is just a bit laggy, its a widely reported problem. I just found this thread which talks about it.
I will try out changing the baud rate to 57000 and report how it goes with the new radio.
I've just given it a spin with the 1.12.25.16 radio, no difference really. I think the problem is that the screen refreshes only at about 25 frames per minute which is the problem. The voice as many people have mentioned is on cue, the screen just can't keep up.
I've had problems with TomTom as well. Disabling A-GPS with HD Tweak worked miracles for me. TomTom doesn't seem to like that. A GPS fix is still available withing 10-30 seconds.
Use these settings every time I flash my rom, and they defintly work. These settings arn't intended to get better reseption but more what you phone does with the recives data.
With these settings, your phone will confirm that it has connection instead if waiting for the buffer to completly full up... (hense the buffer size reduction)
Don't know if these facts are 100% true, but i think so
I don't have a problem getting a GPS fix. Thats the easy part. And TomTom gets me from A-B but its just a bit laggy ie. The screen refreshes only 25 times per minute which means that your position is wrong for about 2.5seconds at a time.
At 60 km/hr, thats 16m/s so after 2.5 seconds you could be 40m out
At 100 km/hr thats 28m/s so after 2.5s you are 70m out
40-70m is enough to confuse which turn you need to take if there is more than one turn within 40-70m. Of course training your brain to think ahead helps but its not the way other devices work (my palm pilot running tomtom for example)
Thats my theory anyway.
Issues with TomTom
Does anyone know where TomTom gets his settings from and where to set them.
I have TomTom running but the satellite indicators don't work.
TomTom works fine I have a signal and everything is okay, but the bars show nothing.
I am not sure but I think this is a settings issue.
I have the HTC Cruise 09 and checking the signal via windows shows the bars fine, but TomTom does not recognise it, but works okay.
Also the NaviPanel does not recognise TomTom as the application to use.
Any Ideas?
Cheers
If tom works but shows no signals then the issue is not your setting but rather you Radio. I have the same problem. I just simply ignore it. It's because my radio requires Security Unlocking because it's ported from another HTC device.
tomtom7 works fine
Hi there,
I had a few problems with my tomtom not getting signal. Then I switched off AGPS, and..... it now gets signal within 2mn...
Trust me just do the normal settings then switch off this AGPS and u'll see...
My Tomtom gets a fix from 7 seconds to 20 seconds.. Even indoors at home.
It doesnt lag and is right on que. With Garmin however it lags like hell.. Really like 10-100 meters after..
My rom is standard and so is radio and no tweaks at all..
GPS Setting in TOMTOM is standard built in.
A-Gps is turned on in HD Tweak.
If you have TT7 set to "show POIs on Map" it reduces the refresh rate.
Go to Change Preferences > Show POI on map and remove any ticks you find.
Instead,
Goto Change Preferences > Manage POIs > Warn when near POI and set the POIs you are interested in.

I'm having the exact same problem, I've been told it's a common issue with tomtom 7.450 when using any new build radio/ROMs.

... can someone give me the settings to fix this problem, and also an english lanuage voice, thanks
Other NMEA GPS recever Baud Speed to 9600 on Com 4 should work fine. You can download a voice from www.tomtom.com go to the Plus section of the site and select voices, the built in ones are available for download, what happened to your original? - Mike
thanks for the help, dont know what happened but they all came up not installedhad a look at the extended rom and tried to run the cab but it wouldnt run, but al should be fine now thanks
the gps still wont work, what settings do you have in the gps applet in settings? i cant select com 4 in tom tom what comes up is com9 gps com0 com2 and serial, no matter what it is set to in the gps settings
I think you need tom tom 6.02 to recognize the internal gps.
I'm using tomtom 6.010 and it works perfectly on Xda Orbit.
Settings in Orbit
Program GPS: Com 4
Hardware GPS: None, baud rate 9600
Tick Manage GPS Automatically
Settings in tomtom
Select "Other NMEA GPS Receiver" 9600 on Com 4.
Have you been to the Tomtom options>preferences>GPS>configure yet? maybe that's your problem ??
Mine is set to com 4 by default in the prefs and In built GPS in the TomTom settings. Hope it helps.
EDIT:
Also bear in mind that the program will take about 30 secs to recognize the built in GPS and then it will take around 45 secs to get a signal outside so give it time too

With 6.02 it takes about 10 seconds for a cold start to get a lock and 3 seconds for a hot start. It uses the QuickGPS files! Mine has usually got a fix by the time I've loaded TomTom and opened the satelite info page!
Phil
I have :
Software tab : port : com4
hardware tab : port not set, speed 4800 bauds
Acces tab : select the item
These are the settings with were set when I bouth the device.

QuickGPS files ?????
Quick GPS is an application on the HTC Artemis and MDA-C-III (Not too sure about the Orbit as I haven't had a chance to mess around with one yet).
It uses the internet or GPRS connection to download a tiny database every 72 hours to speed up the GPS signal acquisition. It is in program files on the device if you have one - Mike
Got It working in the end Couple of Restarts got it going. and to clarify the orbit does Have the Quick GPS aplication, thank you all for your Help

First, make sure your Quick GPS is up to date ( although I'm not really sure just how effective quick gps is, I'm sure I've had a signal without updating in about the same amount of time)
On your MDA, go to Settings/Sytem/GPS.
Click on GPS and in Programs tab, set GPS program port to 'COM4'
Click Hardware tab, set GPS hardware port to '(None)', and set Baud rate to
'4800'.
Click Access tab, tick box for 'Manage GPS automatically (recommended)'
Load Tomtom and go into the GPS Receiver configure screen. Select Other NMEA GPS receiver. Next screen, slide GPS baud rate to 4800 if it isn't already at that. Click done. Next screen, highlight COM4 if it isn't already highlighted, then click on COM4 and it'll bring you to the next screen which shows your current GPS Status.
Make sure you are outside to get a signal. It can take anything from 2 minutes or longer. Mine rarely gets a signal before 2 minutes and sometimes much longer. Some people are very lucky and manage to get a signal within a few seconds, though I've no idea how they manage that.
Also, I've just replaced Navigator 6 with Navigator 7 which is essentially the same but with some different colours, splash screen and one or two additions in the change preferences menus. However, it has a new feature in the GPS Receiver screen which might be useful. It now has Built-in GPS receiver and there seems to be nothing to set after clicking on that. I'm going to go test it now, see if it's any faster or works at all.
I DID IT YAYEE!!
For HTC TOUCH HD TOMTOM6 i chose 9600 and com2 and its now working.
In mobiles setting i turned all com to none..
cheers!!

Hi,
I got Quick GPS updated through Activesync
in Settings/System, I have External GPS... not GPS
In External GPS, I did what you suggested.
Same with TT too
I am still not able to get a lock.
It still get "Waiting for a valid GPS signal..."
What more can I try?
Do I need an external antenna?

Everything on my P3300 works great except that it is not receiving any Satellite signals.
The Orange GPS light flashes and various programs can see that there is a GPS active but it is not receiving any signals.
For example, in TomTom (version 6.030) it sees the GPS receiver (Comm 4, 4800) and the icon in the upper right corner flashes back and forth to indicate that it is communicating with the GPS receiver but all of the Satellite bars show 0 signal (even after 45 minutes)
One thing that appears unusual is that the starting UTC time shows the following (visible in Pocket Stars and other programs): UTC: 15 April 200600:23:59:48
Could this be the issue or is it just that I have a hardware problem with the antenna?
I have tried the following to no affect:
- Updated the ephemeris file using QuickGPS
- Upgraded from WM5 to WM6
- Tried the following programs: TomTom, Pocket Stars, Nat' Geographic Pocket Topo, Tracky, GPSGate 2.5, APL Sirf
1. Can anyone tell me if it is normal for the UTC time to show April 15th, 2006 at midnight on GPS startup, and
2) Any other ideas on anything to try would be appreciated.
Thanks, Earl

Have you checked the settings from your GPS setting menu under settings.
Please try to change to another com port from start\setting\gps.
Try with another com port and change your GPS software communication port according to the chaged com port from systems.
Once it is fully aligned with satellite it will show you exact current time in your locations.
Yep, tried setting the GPS to different Hardware and Software Ports with no affect.
I checked the Registry and found the following entries. Can anyone tell me if these are typical?

hi everone,
i've upgraded the rom to:
ROM Version: Artemis Vanilla 4.01 WWE
ROM date: 2/5/08
Radio Version: 03.07.90
Protocol Version: 4.1.13.51
(all above got from Device Information)
i used tomtom 6.02x before and my settings before rom & tomtom-update where:
GPS Program Port: COM4
GPS Hardware Port: (None)
Baud Rate: 115200
in Tomtom i used:
other NMEA
COM4
115200
Tomtom was really fast when i used this settings above and made the quickgps-update.
BUT NOW....
how i told before, i made this rom-update and installed new version tomtom 6.030 (8320) - tried to use the same settings like i ever had...
i hardly ever got a signal although tomtom verified my gps settings and everything looked okay.
Now i MUST USE:
GPS Program Port: COM4
GPS Hardware Port: (None)
Baud Rate: 9600
in Tomtom:
other NMEA
COM4
9600
...and Tomtom is very slow with 9600 baud - my subjective opinion!
1.) Did anybody make the same experiences and knows somekind of workaround to get tomtom work faster (get the signal faster!)
2.) Do i assume right, if i think that the working-speed of tomtom depends on the baud rate?
I WANT 115200 baud AGAIN ...for those who don't want to read my little novel above
Btw i also tried the new option in Tomtom: internal GPS Receiver. Tomtom verified my gps settings and everything looked okay - but no signal at all over half an hour with sunny sky in garden
regards, Van
I use...
GPS Program Port: COM4
GPS Hardware Port: (None)
Baud Rate: 9600
- and -
the option in Tomtom: internal GPS Receiver
just like you describe, but also use the quickGPS application and the signal is ready to go in TomTom in less than a minute.
Also, make sure on the Access tab in the external GPS settings (where all the above settings are) that the box it checked to manage GPS automatically.
Are you using quickGPS? Otherwise, I hope someone else has a better idea for you.
Good luck!
I use the vanallia rom with tomtom about 30 times a day....and if its of any use to you
the baud rate makes no difference, if anything all it would do is suck up ever so slightly more or less power depending on the speed (am i right? thats what i assumed and i always set it to the lowest ?!?)
anyways, Myself I find QuickGPS to be a bit of a waste of time, after not using that for quite sometime I find tomtom picks up a siginal if outside usually within 30 seconds first time and then within 1 or 2 seconds the rest of the day,
I have tomtom set to use internal GPS reciever, although for some reason my friends t-mobile flashed with same rom has to be set to use the NMEA, I don't quite understand that as I thought both devices were indentical except for the wifi, although there are several odd quicks that are different between the 2 devices..
anyways, I find if you just leave quickgps, just make sure you get a siginal and use it for a bit for a few days it seems to just work a lot quicker thereafter?
I can't see tomtom being the problem, If i ever have a trouble getting a fix I tend to use VisualGPSe and leave it running in the background, it'll run when the phone is in standby to keep the gps fix.
Have you reflashed your rom again? a lot of people seem to recommened flashing it twice to make sure it works properly?
The only other thing I can think of is to remove the GPS antenna and then put it back to make sure its sitting in right, (It may help? I'm assuming its removal, i've removed the one side of it before but didn't take it off completly as i was worried it wouldn't go back on!)
Sorry can't be of much help, but thought i'd try and give a friendly reply

oh its a easy one, had this many times before so follow these steps and your flying again
1. install the packedephemeris into the windows folder ( i attached it to this thread)
2. install SeaSGEE and do update. ( attached to thread)
3. go back into Tomtom and choose internal GPS
4. first time can take around 2 to 5 minutes to get a lock.
5. soft reset your phone then again update SeasGee.
6 run tomtom and have fun.

Use "gpsgate 2.6"
i use gpsgate 2.6 and to get signal and position take maximum 5 minutes with very heavy raining condition.
GPS setting
1. Configure WM6.1(OMNIA) (Settings - External GPS):
- Programs : COM2
- Hardware : COM9 baudrate : 9600
- Access : activate the check box
2. install GPSGate 2.6
3. Configure GPSGate :
- Input : COM2 baudrate : 4800
- Output ADD : Virtual COM Port . NMEA Filter
Active : Virtual COM6 / (All NMEA) Filter
4. Configure Tomtom :
- GPS Settings : Other NMEA, Speed : 4800, on Franson COM6
This is my setting for TOMTOM7 and i hope igo8 setting work same
I use iGuidance 4.0
The GPS sw has an auto GPS port detection and it works really good except once in a while, the screen went blank if left untouched for more than one minute (setting) even though the buttons were still working. It could be a power mode saving (turn off LCD after 1 min) a compatibility issue with Omnia's higher resolution WVGA screen and the 4.0 ver is more than one year old to work well with WM 6.1.
SOS PLZZZ
i also have the samsung omnia ( i900 )
ive tried to use google maps and few other apps but my GPS just does not want to connect. ive tried all com ports etc , on default google maps does say roughly aftyer 2 mins 3 or 4 satalites connect but only for few seconds and it seems i NEED to connect to gprs 1st.
this was outside on a clear day. am i missing something?
has any1 solved this problem ?
ive checked google and this does seem to be a bit of a problem. im with orange (seems vodafone has enhanced settings?)
are there any updates or programes that can fix this?
plz help.
just............
Go to setings to disable external gps, after that use tweak and let windows set your gps mode, because omnia is built in gps reciever.
There is a good post here on working Omnia GPS software and some users with first hand experience.
They helped me a bit,

hi there
hi mate even i did the same thing but i am afraid to say that TOMTOM is no good for OMNIA. IF U WANT TO USE NAVIGATION ON OMNIA THEN BEST ONES ARE iGO OR BETTER THEN THAT GARMIN XT...TRY THAT...AND U CAN FIND GARMIN HERE ITSELF JUS LOOK AROUND.
when u say tweak u mean playing about with the com ports till it works?
and thanks for the link about omnia GPS..explains alot.. will have to tryin running faster :s
Have you tried typing in *#1472365# into their Omnia2?
It brings up some extra gps settings, some of which are similar to settings that can be reached in registry but some are unique.
The main one that was of interest to me was the start up mode of GPS.
Mine was set to cold start which meant that every time i started my tomtom it did so by deleting all previous data.
This meant i was on a cold start each and every time i used it which was why it took forever to lock sometimes.
I have now changed this setting to "hotstart" and my locks are instant.
See post 95 onwards at the following link for more info on tomtom with omnia

Hi,
Like above in Title, i got that devices and software.
Problem is, that TomTom 7.9 cant find a GPS Device. I know definitely that the craddle Holux CR-100-X2 is working. It must be WM6.5.5
I set under Settings
Connections/external GPS/Program - connections none
Connections/external GPS/Hardware - COM1 Baudrate 4800
Connections/external GPS/Access - GPS automatic managed
I also tried various settings, but left Program NONE, but turned off Auto and used some other baudrates ... unfortunately i lost the user guide..
can someone help me pls..
EDIT:
False alarm - the fuse of the charging cable to the craddle was burnt-out. So i changed it with another one and look there, it works.
Finally settings: COM1 - program connections None - Baudrate 4800 - GPS Manage disabled.
