i use igo8 in omnia and gps signal work in port 3 baud 38400 but first time i wait 1 houre outside whit clear sky for satellite....just wait....
Use "gpsgate 2.6"
i use gpsgate 2.6 and to get signal and position take maximum 5 minutes with very heavy raining condition.
GPS setting
1. Configure WM6.1(OMNIA) (Settings - External GPS):
- Programs : COM2
- Hardware : COM9 baudrate : 9600
- Access : activate the check box
2. install GPSGate 2.6
3. Configure GPSGate :
- Input : COM2 baudrate : 4800
- Output ADD : Virtual COM Port . NMEA Filter
Active : Virtual COM6 / (All NMEA) Filter
4. Configure Tomtom :
- GPS Settings : Other NMEA, Speed : 4800, on Franson COM6
This is my setting for TOMTOM7 and i hope igo8 setting work same
I use iGuidance 4.0
The GPS sw has an auto GPS port detection and it works really good except once in a while, the screen went blank if left untouched for more than one minute (setting) even though the buttons were still working. It could be a power mode saving (turn off LCD after 1 min) a compatibility issue with Omnia's higher resolution WVGA screen and the 4.0 ver is more than one year old to work well with WM 6.1.
SOS PLZZZ
i also have the samsung omnia ( i900 )
ive tried to use google maps and few other apps but my GPS just does not want to connect. ive tried all com ports etc , on default google maps does say roughly aftyer 2 mins 3 or 4 satalites connect but only for few seconds and it seems i NEED to connect to gprs 1st.
this was outside on a clear day. am i missing something?
has any1 solved this problem ?
ive checked google and this does seem to be a bit of a problem. im with orange (seems vodafone has enhanced settings?)
are there any updates or programes that can fix this?
plz help.

Go to setings to disable external gps, after that use tweak and let windows set your gps mode, because omnia is built in gps reciever.
There is a good post here on working Omnia GPS software and some users with first hand experience.
They helped me a bit,

hi there
hi mate even i did the same thing but i am afraid to say that TOMTOM is no good for OMNIA. IF U WANT TO USE NAVIGATION ON OMNIA THEN BEST ONES ARE iGO OR BETTER THEN THAT GARMIN XT...TRY THAT...AND U CAN FIND GARMIN HERE ITSELF JUS LOOK AROUND.
when u say tweak u mean playing about with the com ports till it works?
and thanks for the link about omnia GPS..explains alot.. will have to tryin running faster :s
Have you tried typing in *#1472365# into their Omnia2?
It brings up some extra gps settings, some of which are similar to settings that can be reached in registry but some are unique.
The main one that was of interest to me was the start up mode of GPS.
Mine was set to cold start which meant that every time i started my tomtom it did so by deleting all previous data.
This meant i was on a cold start each and every time i used it which was why it took forever to lock sometimes.
I have now changed this setting to "hotstart" and my locks are instant.
See post 95 onwards at the following link for more info on tomtom with omnia

The GPS API gateway in I-Mate latest ROM (1.13.53 WWE) seems be missing.
If you search in JasJars help under the term GPS, you will be directed to [settings/system/GPS/etc.) but the latest JJ ROM does not seem to have it there, unless I'm missing something.
As result, I can pair a BT GPS, outbound it to P4, inbound to P8, but these ports can not be detectable by a GPS software who does not recognize these virtual ports.
Any advice ?

Registry Editor
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings
Delete the DWORD marked "hide"
The add a DWORD called "Group" and give it the value of "2" (dec)
Soft reset
You will find the GPS icon in Settings/Connections
GPS Applet back from the dark
Thank you tekflow.
Works, now I'll see if Destinator works as well...

Something looks wrong with the BT GPS connection on the IMate JJ, latest ROM.
- After revealed the hidden GPS applet, thx. to Tekflow !! (why hide it, maybe cause it doesn't work ?)
- Paired 2 different BT GPS devices (RT RBT1000/GS BT-338) to JJ
- Chosen as Outbound Port - Com 4/Inbound Port Com 8 (not that otherwise possible)
- On GPS Applet set common virtual GPS port to Com 9
- Nav S/W (tried 2 different) actually DOES NOT recognize either BT GPS
On the IPaq 27xx, with a Beta WM5 and Widcom excellent and user friendly BT stack, all works like a charm..
Or maybe I am doing something wrong.
Pls help..
Thx.,
Saar
Hi Saar,
I read about this quite a lot looking to find a solution for the problem. It looks like the Destinator cannot see the required COM port in the list. Even when activating the GPS API with the registry it doesn't help.
For destinator there is a solution, for NavNGo I couldn't find one so if you know something I'll be happy to hear.
What you need to do is to open the file destinator.ini with HEX editor and manually change the COM port to the one you need (same one you created when you paired the device I guess it is 8)
and then it will work.
You can find further info here:
http://www.mtekk.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7600&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=10
Is DestinatorPN looking fine on your device ? When I tried the menu was all messed up, maybe because of the VGA ?
I could only work with ver 3.0.75
by the way, I wonder why you don't post a question in pocketpcfreak you prefer writing in english more than your own language?
Sagi
Just been playing with this myself, connected my BT receiver to COM:8 and share this using COM:0, TomTom V5 sees both ports but only manages to talk to the GPS receiver on the physical port ie COM:8 not the virtual port COM:0.
Also can anyone explain why most of the COM port are unavailable when pairing BT devices.
And whats QCT Data Interface & RIL Port ? ?
Thanks
Destnator PN and WM5
Hi Sagi,
Thx. a bunch. Tried it to the letter with DPN..had a moment of hope, but it was a short one. Unfortunately.
I'm hanging out here, as I doubt if anybody could answer it on the local forums...you see... I'm usually the Q/A master..so if I don't know...well, you see my point...
Anyway, the problem with the "spread" menus has been fixed.. Destinator PN "X" menus look smooth on the JJ (it's a beta of the next version to come soon). I have inside sources..
However I've used a large part of my box of tricks to make DPN work on WM5, with MS GPS API, and BT Stack, but nada...:-(
Of course we could dig deeper into this, but I assumed somebody may already'd have a clue. That's why we're here for, no ?
Again, thank you,
===========
Saar
No problems.
In the mean time you can use 3.0.75 it works fine with the tricks mentioned above.
When you have a perfect solution I'll be the first to try it. I like "Nehama" much better than TT5.
If you need another beta tester for the new ver on the JJ just let me know
Sagi
Thx. again.
In fact hex editing the ini fili causes the software to behave just as in your mail..... less actually connecting the GPS. I guess it's a starting point, I'll pass the info to our RD.

im having the same problem
Hi Saar!
im having the same problem with Jasjar + navNgo using BT-338
for some reason the program cannot find the gps .
i tried contacting the guys at GPS&more to get support but still no luck.
Maybe you got more luck than me and can help me?
I've just tested with PocketStreets 2005 and that works allright with Jasjar and Globalsat BT-338 after unhiding the GPS in the controlpanel. I set the com port to 8.
Hoooowever... I have serious problems with getting the correct coordinates when using the wm5 gpsapi.dll (gpssample in wm5 sdk). The same sample works 100% with a wm5 qtek 2020 and wm5 qtek 9090.
Anyone noticed anything similar? Or know of a gps app that uses wm5 gpsapi?
/Cheers
JasJar GPS API
David K:
No solution yet, tried also with RBT1000 BT GPS. Outbound Port: Com4, GPS Program Port: Com 9. Same behaviour.
To further focus on the problem, we've uninstalled Destinator and installed a straightforward GPS monitoring App. (Vito Navigator 2). Auto scanning detects Port 9, but does not detect a GPS signal on this port, either from GS-BT338 or RT RBT1000. This excludes the possibility of a problem with D or NG apps.
This also seems to be a hint for a ROM/Hardware problem. I hope it ain't. We're also investigating with HW manufacturer. I'll update if resolved.
===============
Saar
This is very similar to TomTom, it can see the GPS COM port, but no data is received....
Maybe this is the eason why its been disabled ?
What I don't understand. seems as some JasJars do GPS OK while some other don't..

Saar
TOMTOM
Actually I use TOMTOM now (5.1)
The software can see all COM ports and it works great with my BT GPS set to COM8 (it does not need the GPS API at all and I can disable it)
Version 5 had same problems as D or NNG and couldn't see the port. the new BT GPS cab file that came with new version solved this problem.
I still believe that it is a D and NNG software issue that can be fixed
I'll be happy to hear any updated from the HW manufacturer when you have them.
SaarAvigour;
Do you have access to an EMTAC BTGPS? I have this working.
You'll need to know the paring key to get this working for the Bluetooth GPS.
I believe you'll only need to setup an Outgoing COM port, I used 8
Microsoft Pocket Streets can be set to COM 8 and it should work.
Only after the GPS has a fix will the second port work, I set this up to COM 6 Pocket Streets can work with either COM 8 or COM 6.
Note that I had to delete the Incoming port I setup to get this to work.
Hope this helps some.
1) Start (menu) | Settings | System (tab) | Bluetooth (icon) |
2) Check Turn on Bluetooth | on Mode Tab
3 Tap Devices (tab)
4 Tap New Partnership...
5 Tap name of found Bluetooth GPS device to select, then next
6 Enter 0000 as the passkey (four zeros) for the Belkin F8T051, 0183 for the EMTAC | tap next
7 You can rename the device on this screen only | Check Serial port | Tap Finish
8 Tap COM Ports
9 Tap New Outgoing Port
10 Select Bluetooth GPS from List of Devices | Tap Next
11 Select COM Port, try 0, 5, 6, or 8 | Tap Finish
Thx. Dah54,
Been abroad, seen your posting only now. I have a GlobalSat BT 308, but the principle is simillar. I got it all working with Destinator.
thx.,

Destinator on JASJAR
Hi Saar,
Since lots of people are trying to get it work, and tried to help you, it will be nice of you tel explain how you got it work for all other users who are still struggling ??
gps
By all means, thought I did...sorry
Pair your GPS
Start/Settings/Connections/BT
Set GPS Serial Outbound Port to Com 8 (Com 4 possible, but was not detected by some specifically tested SatNav apps.)
Unhide your GPS Control Panel (still a mistery why some OEMs decided to hide it, and others not to)
Use a Registry Editor
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ControlPanel/GPS Settings
Unhide the GPS Control Panel by modifying from (1) to (0)
Confirm by exiting and saving (OK button)
Your GPS Control panel will feature now, in its all grace, in Settings/System
There's another modification suggested, that will put the pannel under Settings/connections, but why change the original setup
Set your GPS Virtual Port
Start/Settings/System/GPS
Leave Hardware as ("None")
Set Programs to Com 8
Save and Exit (OK)
Soft Reset
Probably a reason to lots of failures. Suspectedly, the GPS control panel makes changes to registry. No SR, and changes are non active.
Works for me with various SatNav apps. Here, case closed....

Has anyone tried Navigon MN5 with Artemis yet?..........
Thanks
Rafiki
I did.. Navigon works fine, but is really slow on my Artemis. TomTom is much faster. I tried Navigon because of the TMC support, but i can't get TMC to work on my device. I'm going to try iGo 2006 as well, but for now TomTom does the job very well.
Now I'm using iGo 2006. I can recommend this piece of software to everyone, it's much faster than both TomTom and Navigon. The looks are incredible.
My tomtom takes ages to find the sats when you first boot it up. Is this normal??

Try to find the upgrade to v6.02 as this has the option for "Built In GPS" and it'll then use the Quick GPS data. Cold start is now 10 seconds for me with warm start being about 3 second!
Navigon 6
Navigon 6 works fine, but it is really slow on Artemis, is there anyone knows how to turn the first warning off in the begining of screen ?
Does iGo support QuickGPS so that it can lock on fast?
A cool nav program is Route 66. Works fine and gets a fix in approx.10 sec. Uses same maps as Navigon btw!
TomTom is a joke if you live in Eastern Europe. Either no maps at all or very poor with only very major roads.
I only work with DestinAtor on my Artemis. Version 6.0.0.
Very fast fixes (approx 6-9 seconds) and response from map is better then TommyTommy, according to a friend of mine. He switch over to DestinAtor aswell.

Guys can someone tell me what settings they have on their Artemis' GPS Settings and on their TomTom 6.200?
On my Artemis' GPS settings, I have it set to:
GPS Programs Port: COM4
GPS Hardware Port: COM2
Baud Rate: 4800
Manage GPS automatically set to: ON
And on the TomTom settings I configured it to use the Other NMEA GPS Receiver, set the baud rate to 4800 and then when it asks "GPS is connected to:" I just select COM4 which is the first option.
Now this works for me pretty well but the weird thing is my HTC P3600 seems to be a lot quicker at getting a fix and it has connections with more sattelites and a better signal than the Artemis!
As far as I know, the artemis is suppose to be much better when it comes to GPS because it has the latest Sirf 3 GPS receiver and from what I read somewhere, the P3600 has another GPS chip not as good as the Sirf 3.
Would be good to know what settings everyone else is using. By the way TomTom only seems to detect the GPS when the GPS Programs Port is set to COM4 on the Artemis' GPS settings. Setting this to anything else doesnt work.
Thanks in advance.

Hello, I put the Navigon 6,2 software on my P3300 today. Awesome stuff. The update 6,2 has improved the Speed alot.
The only thing that i need help with is the TMC service.
how can i get that up and running?
Thanks
Tim
Hi,
I'm currently running navigon 6.1.5 on my P3300 with WM6 (NewArtemis2). Every now and then I'm getting the message that my memory is full. At that moment I can choose to end different programs. Normally or MN6 or phone. Because I'm using navigation I choose telephone. Then after a few minutes I'm getting a network faillure and MN6 ends.
Is this a known problem and if it is, is there a sollution for it?
Thanks for your help.
Paul
Bringing up an old topic again.
I tried to install Navigon MN6.2 on my artemis. Everything goes well, except for the images on the screen, it's far from smooth.
How did other people manage to run MN6.2 to run smoothly on there Artemis?
... can someone give me the settings to fix this problem, and also an english lanuage voice, thanks
Other NMEA GPS recever Baud Speed to 9600 on Com 4 should work fine. You can download a voice from www.tomtom.com go to the Plus section of the site and select voices, the built in ones are available for download, what happened to your original? - Mike
thanks for the help, dont know what happened but they all came up not installedhad a look at the extended rom and tried to run the cab but it wouldnt run, but al should be fine now thanks
the gps still wont work, what settings do you have in the gps applet in settings? i cant select com 4 in tom tom what comes up is com9 gps com0 com2 and serial, no matter what it is set to in the gps settings
I think you need tom tom 6.02 to recognize the internal gps.
I'm using tomtom 6.010 and it works perfectly on Xda Orbit.
Settings in Orbit
Program GPS: Com 4
Hardware GPS: None, baud rate 9600
Tick Manage GPS Automatically
Settings in tomtom
Select "Other NMEA GPS Receiver" 9600 on Com 4.
Have you been to the Tomtom options>preferences>GPS>configure yet? maybe that's your problem ??
Mine is set to com 4 by default in the prefs and In built GPS in the TomTom settings. Hope it helps.
EDIT:
Also bear in mind that the program will take about 30 secs to recognize the built in GPS and then it will take around 45 secs to get a signal outside so give it time too

With 6.02 it takes about 10 seconds for a cold start to get a lock and 3 seconds for a hot start. It uses the QuickGPS files! Mine has usually got a fix by the time I've loaded TomTom and opened the satelite info page!

I have :
Software tab : port : com4
hardware tab : port not set, speed 4800 bauds
Acces tab : select the item
These are the settings with were set when I bouth the device.

QuickGPS files ?????
Quick GPS is an application on the HTC Artemis and MDA-C-III (Not too sure about the Orbit as I haven't had a chance to mess around with one yet).
It uses the internet or GPRS connection to download a tiny database every 72 hours to speed up the GPS signal acquisition. It is in program files on the device if you have one - Mike
Got It working in the end Couple of Restarts got it going. and to clarify the orbit does Have the Quick GPS aplication, thank you all for your Help

First, make sure your Quick GPS is up to date ( although I'm not really sure just how effective quick gps is, I'm sure I've had a signal without updating in about the same amount of time)
On your MDA, go to Settings/Sytem/GPS.
Click on GPS and in Programs tab, set GPS program port to 'COM4'
Click Hardware tab, set GPS hardware port to '(None)', and set Baud rate to
'4800'.
Click Access tab, tick box for 'Manage GPS automatically (recommended)'
Load Tomtom and go into the GPS Receiver configure screen. Select Other NMEA GPS receiver. Next screen, slide GPS baud rate to 4800 if it isn't already at that. Click done. Next screen, highlight COM4 if it isn't already highlighted, then click on COM4 and it'll bring you to the next screen which shows your current GPS Status.
Make sure you are outside to get a signal. It can take anything from 2 minutes or longer. Mine rarely gets a signal before 2 minutes and sometimes much longer. Some people are very lucky and manage to get a signal within a few seconds, though I've no idea how they manage that.
Also, I've just replaced Navigator 6 with Navigator 7 which is essentially the same but with some different colours, splash screen and one or two additions in the change preferences menus. However, it has a new feature in the GPS Receiver screen which might be useful. It now has Built-in GPS receiver and there seems to be nothing to set after clicking on that. I'm going to go test it now, see if it's any faster or works at all.
I DID IT YAYEE!!
For HTC TOUCH HD TOMTOM6 i chose 9600 and com2 and its now working.
In mobiles setting i turned all com to none..
cheers!!

Hi,
I got Quick GPS updated through Activesync
in Settings/System, I have External GPS... not GPS
In External GPS, I did what you suggested.
Same with TT too
I am still not able to get a lock.
It still get "Waiting for a valid GPS signal..."
What more can I try?
Do I need an external antenna?

like the title says, anyone know of a program with a speedometer feature?
One of the possibilties
Code:
http://www.efficasoft.com/gpsutilities.html
i tried it...it says WM6 compatible but for some reason it only reads the GPS off of com2 and i cant set my GPS port to COM2
Comm port stuck/selection is a different story ... I have a similar story about iGuidance ...
at one time or another ... it is usually user's error that make it stuck on certain port ... ( registry ? )
I had to play around with my GPS for awhile in order for it to paired properly and working smoothly with iGuidance ( had it on comm 3, 4 ...you named it ... finally got it to behave and got it on comm #6 .. )
have you tried this little COMM SETTING program ???
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293397
give that a try and report back
yup ive tried that program, thats how i got my gps working with google maps... the problem is in the wm6 setting when i goto set an outgoing port i only have com6 or 7 as an option and not 2
If you just want a speedo, you could use the free unregistered version of CamerAware (http://www.cameraware.net).
Since it uses and auto configures the GPS intermediary driver, you won't need to mess around with ports.

Hi Guys,
finally my new (german) Rhodium arrived today.
All is fine except the GPS module.
It seems deactivated and I have no idea how to activate it.
Google Maps doesn't work, GPS settings are gray and the GPScyclecomputer sais GPS it off.
Any idea what to do?
Thanks
Duke
In Google Maps under menu-options do you have windows manage the GPS settings?
Hi,
thanks for your reply.
The menuentry for the GPS settings is gray and unavailable.
The winmo GPS settings don't accept any chances at the hardware tab, hardwareport setting is none, i think thats because of the internal device?
Duke
My Touch pro 2 GPS also don't seem to work.
I have a dutch version of the TP2.
The HTC GPS Tool isn't able to get a fix.
TomTom 7 Isn't able to get a fix.
Its set to com 4-> None -> 4800 -> Let windows manage.
Is this perhaps a problem with other then english roms?
After a hardreset all works fine.
Needed about 20minutes for TomTom 7 to get a fix but finally it has one.
I have performed several hard resets with the 1234 okay and still no luck with the GPS I think i'm going to caal htc
I called HTC Netherlands.
They said TP2 is only compatible with Copilot 7.
Also they said to set it to com9 with a baud rate of 9200.
I'm unable to set it to a baud rate of 9200 it switches back to 4800.
So still no luck with the gps. I'm a little bit disapointed with the support.
I keep you posted.
I did contact the HTC support, too. They advised the hard reset.
Did you go out for a walk trying to get a fix? Did it for me.
You also should run QuickGPS to download current satelite data from the internet, and then get out, to a park maybe and give it time. Could be up to 30minutes!
Good luck!
load of crap if someone tells you that it's only compatible with Copilot. GPS chip will work any software as long as they are compatible with each other. TomTom 7 works just fine in TP2.
After a 100km drive with TT 7 still not able to get a GPS lokation with the internal GPS. Its set to COM 4 witha baud of 4800.
The Parrot T3200 easely finds 8 active GPS satalites.
I keep you posted.
It worked for me straight off with Live Search, no need to change any settings. Maybe Orange got something right for once?
Have you tried GPSTest (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360477 and many other places round here) that should help show what is going on.
Gordon
I tried that tool with diffrent settings.
It sees some red dots in the Satallite tab. But is also unable to connect to a satalite. Whilst with my parrot T 3200 it connects with the HTC GPS Tool.
Still the GPS and radio was not working after the WiMo 6.5 Upgrade.
I Called HTC and my touch pro 2 has been shipped to a repair center.
They replaced the motherboard and its working perfect now.
