Is it only me?
Or anyone else is having slow response to open any page of this great site?
I have this slowness since 2 weeks and I have the best speed available on my country: 4mb (You guys with super fast connections don´t laugh)

It's been a little slow for me from time to time, but nothing major, pages always load.
P.S. I have a 2Mb cable line at home
Dave
its ok for me
are you guys talking mega bytes or mega bits
ive got 7.2 megabits
It loads slowly trying to login and opening up a forum. Other than that it seems good. According to speedtest 25 megabits from work
It's been pretty quick for me lately. In fact, it's been better, since I no longer seem to get HTTP 5xx Server errors anymore. Speedtest.net says about 5 mbps from home over type N Wi-Fi.
Dave
@orb: Did not notice any speed difference myselft either. BTW I have a dialup connection using a USB modem . normally any page opens within 2-4 seconds (Always, should be more appropriate). Could it be that your firewall or router acting itchy?
Thanks for your reply
No it was not any firewall or router...
It happens randomly form time to time now is ok
Cheers,
I've noticed this too over the last few weeks, both at home >1.5Mb connection and even at work where the connection is 100Mb
May I add; nearly every morning about 01:30Hrs the site becomes unreachable for about 3mins. Though this may be due to backups
Forums been very slow for me. 15 seconds to just load the reply page.
The current problem discussion is here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=510704
Yes, although not for weeks, bust for last 3 days, I am getting pathetically low speeds while opening pages here at New Delhi, India. Its taking around 15-70 seconds to open a page. I am on a 256 kbps line and all the other websites are working absolutely fine. Torrents are even giving 37-40 KBps / 296-320 Kbps (theoratically not possible on my connection )
But its a lot better today. I am getting pages in 3-5 seconds at the moment. I have also noticed that when its night here in India, pages start opening slow. I guess the other side of the globe is more active at that time

The site's up and running at full speed now. The admins fixed the problem around midnight (BST) last night.

the site is popular
Time to look into cachefly. It is a great option to server balance without the need for additional servers. Someone at the top should go check it out and see if it would fulfill any needs for XDA. It is worth the look after all, ad banners generate faster with more pageloads...
FYI, for me the site is painfully slow. The initial html loads fine but anything needing the forum database is at a crawl.
Love the site, thank you admins and all helpers!
im on here all the time i have a 8mgb connection and its slow from other conenctions also... not always i guess when the site gets overloaded, i wish we could update the bandwidth or w.e is causing this for the site
I still get a slow site.... when browsing the forum it takes a few secs (5-10) to open a page... and it only happens on this site
i have a 16Mb connection!
Deiota
It's slow for me also.
I have 8.89 Mbps download speed, and the XDA site is really slow today. I've noticed the page transitions were slow the past several times I have gotten on the web site, but today is the slowest I've seen so far.
for some reason it seems to be running like a turtle today...
Same here
Perhaps we are now too many users?!
I was getting 500 Internal Server errors on the home page earlier when the forums would not load for me.

...whoa!!! What a speed since yesterday evening...

Let's hope, it's gonna stay so...

It comes and goes...Its fast again now, but most of the time its painfully slow.
What is very strange is the nature of this speed problem.
When I request a page, it sits there fo like 40 seconds , and then suddenly loads the page quickly. This tells me its not a bandwidth issue. Either there is a config problem on the webserver, or it simply is putting requests in a queue or something.

I've noticed a discrepancy between actual data speeds on the AT&T Tilt 2 from various users on the board.
Some people are happy with 1.5mb rate, others have about 400kb, and then some people's signatures have a data speed rate of about 4mb!
I've also read that AT&T put a 1.5mb hardware cap on the Tilt 2, which negates the Tilt 2 owners who say they have 4mb download speeds.
My device gets from 400kb-1.5mb (roughly) from standard HSDPA data connection, and a more steady 1.5mb using Wi-Fi.
Is this the same with all Tilt 2s?
Thanks in advance.
I'm running on the EDGE network using mobile internet explorer, I just ran www.mobilespeedtest.com 3 times consecutively & here are my results.
2162 kbps
2439 kbps
2478 kbps
I purchased my tilt 2 Dec. 30th 2009. I did add the "speed up your data connection" cab
I'll try the data speed fix today.
Does anyone know if there is a data cap on the Tilt 2?
The fact that T-Mobile has the same phone w/7mb speed is ridiculous.
This is the phone I've been oggling for a while, but if there's a cap, it'll be a no go. To ask a rookie question, since I'd be coming over from CDMA and have been hearing nothing but trouble about the Nexus One in the last few days,...
Can you buy an unlocked T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 and then use it on AT&T without the cap?
Any educated guess would be much appreciated.
The T-mobile version will not work on ATT 3G, you will only get Edge
Bah. Vicious rumors....
(Frack.)
Out of curiosity: Presumably if HTC is making phones for both, then it would be a matter of swapping or hotwiring the circuit board? But then would the WiFi be capped? Newb question, I'm sure. Sorry. I'll root around the forum, unless you're willing to reply.
For speed tests use skyfire. Have yet to try opera 10
Opera 9 : 600 kbps
skyfire : 7200 kbps
seems pretty unrestricted as long as you got the right stuff doing the job.
*edit*
BTW, this is on a VZW locked phone with the dataspeed fix. I didn't do a before and after on skyfire for the dataspeed fix but I may try it later.
*editx2*
Also, IE didnt work much better. Best results have been on skyfire so far.
skyfire is DEFINITELY incorrect. it parses pages through its own servers before spitting them out to you so their speeds are inflated.
here are my speed tests:
www.mobilespeedtest.com - 2MB for more precision (keep in mind this is kilobits per sec not kilobyes per sec; for more information go here:http://www.dslreports.com/faq/1061)
opera 9.7 - 649kbps
i/e - 795kbps
skyfire - 6452kbps
and heres how you know skyfire is BS. you do the speed test for 7MB and you've downloaded 7MB in 4.8 seconds for a 11667kbps. That is a ridiculous number that even most internet connections at home dont get.
edit: this is with the jh20001 speed fix and also the sh4y one. and the youtube one i made. on an at&t tilt2 running energy rom 28011
http://www.mobilespeedtest.com
DEFIANTLY gives erroneous results and I really think that people should stop using it. I know EXACTLY what the maximum speed I can get is because I have an email from my network telling me what they have limited my HSDPA to and mobilespeedtest.com happily tells me I am getting multiples of this number.
The most accurate I have found is the 1Mb test :
http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1&more=1
Also - don't use any version of Opera with "Turbo" turned on or Skyfire as this will measure the speed that the proxy in between you and the test site will get. NOT your actual speed.
Thanks for all the replies.
I've also read elsewhere that Skyfire is not a good method of determining data speed.
dslreports.com's 1mb test does seem more accurate in conjunction with Opera.
I applied the datafixspeed cab and my speed still tops out at about 1500kbps on HSDPA with good reception. Even w/Wi-Fi, it doesn't go beyond that.
Am I to assume that people bragging about their 4mb d/l speed are using Skyfire, mobilespeedtest.com, or some other erroneous method of obtaining speed info?
Is 1500kbps d/l considered good? I mean, I finally gave in and got the data plan just for this phone. I wasn't expecting web browsing to be perfect, but the speed still hampers most sites that I visit. It also seems that friends w/the Droid and Blackberry have an easier time accessing the web than the Tilt 2 w/Opera. I'm not complaining, I just want to know how well our product compares to others and get the best experience I can w/the Tilt 2.
Skyfire and Opera Turbo both work by downloading the information you have asked for to a proxy server that sits between you and the data (web site).
The server downloads the data then it compresses it and sends it on to you, so it speeds up your pages loading because the phone has to download less data.
If you do a speed test you are testing the speed of the proxy, not your phone
No idea what's going on with mobilespeedtest.com apart from the fact that there's an advert before you run the test and people like good news ......
i have att and my speeds are nowhere near 1500.
i get 363kbps on dslreports lol. wtfs wrong with mine!
There's nothing wrong with yours.
It's the network. 3G runs at 384kbps so either the network in your area's not upgraded or your network's limiting your bandwidth.
My network is limiting my bandwidth, which I am a bit miffed about
Here is one everyone can use. Its one i use. Its on my server.
Payload size is 3MB
I know it is accurate. If you theater to your phone and download the payload you will get the same results as if you ran just the test. I would avoid using opera as it will give you false numbers, just use PIE.

Ok, clicked the first link on my TP2 using Opera 9.5 and....
Your current bandwidth reading is:
-3865258.70kbps
which means you can download at -483157.34 KB/sec. from our servers.
??????????
Edit : Payload (.bin) is 3.7Mb not 3Mb - don't know if that effects anything cos I'm not entirely sure what "theater to your phone" means

I forgot to edit my post here. But dont use opera. Use IE. Opera cant seem to know what 2 + 2 is.
teather means to use your phone as your internet connection for your computer.
You mean use IE on my computer ?
My computer doesn't have IE, and even if it did there's not a chance I'd be using it !

Use IE on your phone.
Firefox and IE work great on computer.
Why do I have to tether to my PC if I am using IE on my phone ?
And IE does work, but not very well on Linux

Just open IE on your phone and go to the link.
Hi guys,
So, my battery has just been dropping the whole day, no matter how little I've used my phone. Then I check my Wifi connection, only to find that my phone has downloaded about 265MB of Data today, at about 10KB/s average. I can't figure out WHAT it's been downloading though. Everything is synced, so I don't need anything to be downloaded. I had to turn the phone off and on again to get it to stop.
Any idea how I can figure out what is was doing?
(using a modded DJ Droid ROM)
had a similar, but not so extreme, issue with mine (about 50mb a day) ~ turned out leaving iGoogle active in the browser not such a good idea!
I had similar problem, i got a text from vodafone saying i had exceeded allowance for that day! it was the Engadget widget, downloads 25mb an hour!!
It's been for quiet some time now. Opening threads, sub forums, new threads, anything really, all have relatively slow loading speeds compared to other websites. Up to 5 seconds for opening a forum gets annoying... Is this only me?? I have a 200 Mbps down / 20 Mbps up connection and only experience slow loading times on xda forums..
It's very annoying indeed. It could be that they are trying to push the XDA Ad-Free. But, why would someone pay if the speeds here are slow incredibly slow.
Yep, we're having a few server issues at the moment, apologies for the slow load times.
The server nerds are busy working away trying to get things back in shape

I've noticed slow load times (Everywhere) ever since the switch to https. I quite regularly get timed out and these messages pop up in my console:
Code:
Failed to load resource: net::ERR_INSECURE_RESPONSE sp1.png
Code:
jsapi:22 A parser-blocking, cross site (i.e. different eTLD+1) script, https://www.google.com/uds/api/search/1.0/45e50696e04f15ce6310843f10a3a8fb/default+en_GB.I.js, is invoked via document.write. The network request for this script MAY be blocked by the browser in this or a future page load due to poor network connectivity. If blocked in this page load, it will be confirmed in a subsequent console message. See https://www.chromestatus.com/feature/5718547946799104 for more details.

Actually, on the home page i have seen a massive increase in speed (Normal page loads are still a bit slow, but for a forum of this size i dont think it runs bad at all).
Hi,
for some time now, I can't access https://www.xda-developers.com on two different Windows machines with firefox. Trying to access the site, I will see the black bar at the top for a second or so, then the screen just turns white and firefox keeps loading to death.
Works with chrome on the phone, though. Would anybody know what might be the issue here?
Having the same problem on my PC, using Waterfox. Can load the forums but not the main site.
Updated to the latest version of WaterFox and can view the site again.
Hello
I write to Webmaster XDA and he was experiencing an DDoS attack. Now is resolved.
Best Regards
How come XDA is so slow in general?
Long ping time when clicking on a link on the site or loading a new page? Long loading times etc.
I know Leaseweb is fast because I have dealt with them in the past...but its only XDA that I find very slow to go to.
Sometimes the xda does not load and it could be the ddos as mentioned above.
But it cant have ddos attacks all the time?
The server admins have been doing a lot of work on this lately and the situation should be improving. Thank you for your patience.
Borked again for the last 2 days now.
Posted this in another thread because I didn't know where else to. Getting the same thing, some clicks are taking over 10s to even respond (they were upward of 25s yesterday). It's not a server problem, I'm 3ms to leasweb, even less to their cdn. Anything hitting that is fine.
It's like half the site is loading from India or they are having some serious capacity problems (cache hot requests fair better for example). With threads having hundreds if not thousands of pages, trying to read 8 at a time is atrocious.
Is RSS or something else available?
