he was just asking if there was a website...

because i dont feel like redownloading and cracking fireworks and dreamweaver
but in the future i might just do that and use it as turn it in as project for my web design class

ahh.. gives me ideass to make a theme webiste.. lol.. if you make one i'll help contribute some themes to it .. just have to wait until putting themes on your phone becomes easier for the end user that doesn't know about XDA .. and flashing .. and what the heck a Root is

It is kind of humorous.
I was in the market for a new phone and was looking at the Iphone since it came out. Three or four guys at work showed me their phones and I was hooked, damned be the Iphone's good looks.
After having my phone for two weeks I noticed that the stuff coming out on the Android Market was usefull, but since I like things like Overclocking, you know... bigger...better...faster, I stumbled onto this website about a 2 weeks before the root RC30>RC29 breakthrough. I am trying to keep up because I think this android thing is gonna be really big and I am trying to keep up.
Its been along time since I have done any difficult computer stuff, and these forums has caused me to start considering learning something about Linux.
Themes and Wallpapers will probably get alot easier in the future, but I will be able to look back and say, I remember when we used to have to do things the hard way.

the android system will be come soo universal that the iphone will pale in comparison unless apple changes how they go about things , hardware wise
i think the iphone's hardware is a masterpeice but, the OS is like a trainwreck

modmygphone.com has a Themes section where you can upload/download themes.

xda site has more themes but its not as organized =[

Went from a newborn on 22 October to it's current state as a cute lil' toddler with it's own personality already in just 3 months.
Now there's root for all thanks to JesusFreke; Koush has the screenshot and autorotate browser, we've got a good collection of themes started, 190 apps on Market and 140 games.
Our lil' Android is growing up. Ahh, they grow up so fast, don't they?

Hi guys...I am thinking about creating a website that will host G1 themes, backgrounds, icon sets...etc. Kinda like a one site for all G1 stuff. If I were to create this website, would I have support from the G1 XDA crew, like providing with themes and what not?
Also, I will need some people to help me run the website and stuff so if you have experience, let me know

Sounds like a pretty sweet idea, because I have a feeling this whole thing is gonna skyrocket once the Android usage hits critical mass later this year. I'd try to contribute on such a site, no doubt.

Reasons I'd consider waiting are as follows:
1, When CupCake is released, what kind of impact will this have on the theming community.
2, Maybe wait until all themes are cross platform compatible (i.e. we don't need separate RC8, RC30, and ADP1 versions)
3, Maybe wait until the first theming program is release, so people not aware don't try to randomly flash and jack up their phone.
4, Do we really need a dedicated website already? Have we even hit the 10 theme mark yet? (Also, aren't they all in here right now anyway?)
These are just my thoughts. Others' will probably differ.

I 100% agree with Mi|enko.
Wait it out man.... the operating system is changing so fast that you don't want to waste the money. There are rumors of Google releasing a theme creator which will be available "online". (You will create your theme from Gmail.com and it will sync with your phone).
That would mean your website goes down the hole REAL quick...

I am building a Detroit Tigers theme for my own use, and thought I would throw it up here to see if anyone else was interested in downloading it when its finished. I plan on changing some of the other icons (calender for sure) and changing the top bar to a more "tiger" color (maybe orange).

Naw, It's not my style. I like sleek, minimal, glossy themes. Its still a cool theme though, just not up my ally lol.

its 40+ mb because when i started to build it I built it on JF 1.42 not on a blank zip folder, or on top of another theme (like I should have) by the time I realized what i was doing it was too late to sw over. So when you download it, it is the whole JF 1.42 build not just the Theme. I hope I explained it right. I can assure you that it works though and there is nothing wrong with putting the whole thing on, it will just take a few more seconds to download and update to the phone. sorry, I hope people still use it because i spent a lot of time and effort on it, and I love it.

Well, the long awaited theme competition ends very soon. So, what are the themes you guys are looking forward to trying out?
My favorite and most interested themes so far are

I plan on trying out GlossSuite first followed by Aero. Based on the preview pictures, they both have things I like - and don't like, but they all seem very interesting and I'm sure hours of work were put into them, so I simply cannot wait.

Only seen 2 or 3 that said competition. I am thinking some are under wraps until then.

I wouldn't hold your breath, if I were you..... Just because the alleged G2 might be released soon (at CTIA) and certain bloggers are assuming a cupcake release should follow. The G2 is different hardware and doesn't have anything to do with us and our Dreams. I hope I'm wrong, of course, and I do see your point. Two weeks is a little long for judging. I wonder how many entries there are?! The more the better! And if cupcake is released, that doesn't mean most developers won't update their current lastest and greatest themes.

It's 10 am and theres no moon dust on my phone
and i was waiting for stericsons gloss suite till i saw moon dust. But both are going to be excellant im sure, and that dark night one looked really nice as well, just never been a batman fan

I'm waiting for Ultra spikey to finish the aero theme so that he can get back to work on his orb theme. that one really caught my eye.

i've been waiting for the ghost black theme for a while now.
First theme I ever used and I had to ditch it when rc 33 came out, luckily the dev said he'll be releasing it soon.
all the themes I've seen so far are looking really good, it's going to be a good week when these get released to the public.
hope i don't burn out my sd card with all the swapping I'll be doing lol

I am awaiting dthadamaja's theme as BUUF is theme I've used them most. Moon Dust, Aero, Dark Knight and Gloss Suite look very nice.

Bah, woke up this morning feeling like christmas, didn't read the competition thread, till i realized none of the pimp theme links had been posted. Got to wait another week for this theme ah well it will be worth the wait, just impatient to see how good it really looks

All the COMP themes look amazing. I thought I would have a clear favorite but I don't. Each one has it pluses but non have a minus. I look at one and say wow that one is the best then look at another and say oh wow he changed that and it looks sweet. GAH I can't decide.

Built this theme upon request by a friend who recently bought a G1 from me. Being a huge fan myself I had a lot of fun w/ this one =) Features JrBourque's red VK. If anyone wants a port, this can be done relatively easy so feel free to throw that out there if interested.

Aight. Decided to make the switch this evening so I ported my latest theme over. Ended up ranting bout a bunch of stuff that came to my mind after the icons of this theme were criticized. Here is the link and screen shots to spare anyone not interested bout the rant lol. To give credit where credit is due, I compiled JrBourque's Red VK into this build. Anyone who need's a custom VK should hit him and Diaztradeinc up asap. Quality stuff fo sho.

Thus far, posting this las night (in Hv1.5 form) I've only gotten one post of criticism regarding the icons... but I don't really care. I'm open to constructive criticism within my means and MO, but I'm not here to please absolutely everyone. I enjoy making these things, have a zillion different ideas for themes that I'd like to see on my own phone and will continue to post them up as I make them, for whomever might be interested in them (no point in keeping them to myself).
This criticism over my icons put a lot on my mind today so I suppose I'll take the opportunity to put it out there. There seem to be 2 destinctive types of themes to me - Graphic driven themes and Subject driven themes. By graphic driven theme I mean those like Aero and Gloss that are based on no subject but built from scratch, open completely to unique artistic creation to no end. By subject driven themes, well, that's self explanatory (IE Mario, X-men, Punisher, Spider-Man, Gambit, Megaman, Robotech etc. etc. etc.).
Don't expect any of my themes to be graphic driven themes. Subject matter inspires me to build these themes, not graphic design, and I really don't see that changing anytime soon. I really only do this for the enjoyment of seeing my work and particular subjects come to fruition and don't have much interest in pushing my graphic art skills beyond where they currently are. I'd consider my graphic art skills intermediate at best. My skills are not nearly up to par w/ other designers on here. I'm far more inspired to see themes based on my favorite comic books and anime (among other potential mediums) come to fruition than I am to take the time to create unique and original designs. I'm in constant awe of what other members create and share w/ the community. I'm not in this for competition or comparison. I'll let peeps do their thang while I do mine. Jus in this for my own personal enjoyment and there's no point in keeping the fruits of my labors to myself if anyone else is ever interested in running it themselves.
To speak more directly regarding my feelings about icons representing the individual apps instead of the subject matter... in building a subject driven theme, I feel if the icons don't represent the subject in particular, they aren't nearly as interesting. I guess I think of it in the terms of what a Desktop theme would look like (because, Android really is a miniaturized desktop afterall). Even if I extracted a calculator (for example) from the source of the subject (like a calculator that appears in an episode of Robotech in this case), it wouldn't be recognizable as representation of that subject unless it were a character holding a friggin calculator or something. And if an icon like that was made you really wouldn't see the calculator once the image was scaled to the small size that the system icons are.
My work being criticized as though it should be similar to other themes in this regard bothered me enough that I guess I felt compelled to rant and explain my point of view, (and if you're readin this, naw man, I'm still not offended, jus put a lot on my mind). Anyways. This thing is long enough I suppose lol

If I wasn't at such a loss for source material I would have. I'm not kidding. About 80 or 90 google image search pages later I was still at square 2 where in previous endeavors id be at square 6.
Besides, I DO honestly strive for that (my settings icon in my Megaman theme being a good example of that, it was the start menu of MM2), however, I compare my work to that of a couple other cats on here and their icons aren't too particular to the individual apps either.
I agree. It would be REALLY sweet to be able to be that specific but the truth of the matter is I'm decent w/ Gimp (photoshop clone, much better), but I'm no ace by any means. There aren't enough pictures out there to do such a thing in the way id prefer. Calendar/calculator for example. Don't know if either ever appeared in a robotexh episode but if they did, even though it was taken from robotech it wouldn't feel in accordance w/ the theme cuz it wouldn't be familiar looking at all nor would it be destinctively related to the subject matter.
Sorry for the novel lol. You touched a softspot for me, not in a way that I'm offended at all, more like I WISH I COULD make the icons in stronger accordance w/ the individual apps but it's just not possible.
Id actually be curious to see someone else's attempt at such. Do you know of a charicter/show/whatever based theme that's been able to pull this off well? If so you should point me in that direction so I can scope it out

Ha ha ha. FUNNY thing you mention that. I just decided this evening to start workin on a Cowboy Bebop theme. The robotech theme was on my list and when my friend bought a G1 from me and said "hey you should make a robotech theme" I took that as a sign. Now a dif friend is buyin a G1 from me on Sat and said "hey you should build a cowboy bebop theme" (which was also on my list =)) followed just a few hours later by "man a Samurai Champloo theme would be awesome too" lol. So I'm thinking at this point w/ 2 people already requesting both, both being on my list, that I can't make one w/ out doing the other ha ha. Once my Cowboy Bebop theme is done and released I'll def have to dive into Samurai Champloo as well ha ha.
Oh and, no wipe necessary. What build are you running? If you're runnin Haykuro's 1.5 jus flash it and it should update fine (in which case you'd want to grab the Hv1.5 theme on the other thread). Same w/ JF's too. =)

Ah perfect! Damn i wish i would have known this earlier to beat your friend and have you make the Samurai Champloo first but a man can wait I'm running JF1.51 ADP. So maybe you can work on it... whenever you're done a nice thank you will be heading your way

Yeah. there are some major complications regarding 1.51 US that I wasn't really wanting to get into. I'll prolly look into it further but ultimately the only real dif between 1.5 and 1.51 was MyFaves and Amazon for me so I decided against updateing. And from what I understand, flashing a theme built on 1.5 onto 1.51 US doesn't really work right =(. If someone figures out an easy way to extract the framework-res.apk I might jump on board. Otherwise I might actually look into 1.51 UK (which is also compatible w/ the JF1.5 themes that I'm constructing I do believe). I'm pretty sure that the only thing dif about US and UK is that the US f/w has My Faves, which isn't really a big deal since you can adjust your faves (if you even have any) using t mo's website.

heh, CbBb, my all-time favorite anime/show/whatever. I was thinking of one a while back, thought of making it real subtle, in-so-that only a fan would know it was anime/Cowboy Bebop. Heavy use of the opening credit style, pictures of the swordfish, profile silhouettes, etc etc etc.

Yeah it took me, literally HOURS to find a good element to use as the menu background, I ended up using a contour from the opening credits that actually worked pretty well =)

yeah man. I actually think you'll be in good shape then. Pretty sure the US build is the only one w/ that issue. If you flashed this robotech theme (or the Megaman one I ported for JF 1.5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=515742 ) that'll tell ya whether this CbBb theme and the SC theme to follow will work or not =) using the same template to build these.

Haven't been able to get any more than 5 hours of sleep a night and have been completely exhausted but still can't seem to pull myself away from my computer lol.

If i knew how to create a theme i would help you out, but I'm dumb and useless so expect a lot this *shakes fist* If you do something wrong, and i feel your pain about sleeping 5 hrs a night. I'm about to go on for four :/ and then wake up to school :/

Theme Request- Star Trek LCARS

Hey guys, so I've waited for quite a bit, I know the Iphone has a lcars theme
can anyone make one? I can certainly help, I'm good with photoshop, but I just don't have the technical know-how to build it into a theme. I'm surprised that one has never really been built yet, but maybe with some help or if you just want to do it we can get one released.
ps. I know about the one for ahome, I was thinking a full one for CM2.4.14.1

third =D This would be amazing. But, isn't there a thread already existing for this? Don't mean to be a party pooper, just wouldn't like this request to go down the drain for inappropriate posting, cause i'd love to see it materialize.

The way the android interface is built doesn't really lend itself to an lcars theme. You wouldn't be able to implement some of the main stylistic elements like the big sweeping bars, so I think it might look a bit disappointing.
I welcome being proved wrong though.

I know there's an LCARS fully functional theme on Windows Mobile. It's called Pocket LCARS. There's also one for Windows 7, it's called LCARSx32.
Wish they had one for Android.
