Well, I just ordered a G2 on ebay (YAY!) and I'm not kidding, last night I had trouble sleeping because I am very very worried about a loose hinge. I got this thing off contract AKA expensive and I want it to be perfect.
anyway, my question is as follows, was the loose hinge actually a common problem? or was it only blown up on the forums? I live in Israel where it will be very very hard to replace it if it is defective.
No, people just complain.
Just like when its cold, people want summer. When its hot people want winter.
Its easy to open, people want it tough and firm. When its tough and hard to open, people want it "like the g2". I had the same feeling, its over rated.
I'm talking about the hinge just popping open or closed at weird angles...it would be especially bad for someone like me who texts a lot in bed (and play old gameboy ROMS =])

It's not really weird angles, it's only when you hold the phone upside down. Then, the forces of gravity kind of open it for you (or close it, if it's already open). Otherwise, the hinge is perfectly stable, tight and functional. As I've said in other discussions like this one, I've held my phone buy the top piece and shaken it and it has not affected the opening or closing mechanism at all.
Rest easy, you're getting a badass phone lol.

he tells the truth lol
Lol, so like 45 degree angle is cool? even for those really loose ones from launch day? that literally just pop the F*ck open
It's not really a big thing. Just use your index fingers to hold up the screen, you type with your thumbs anyways. I thought it was a natural habit, but I guess not judging from all those people who complain.
I'm 100% convinced that the "loose" hinge is the way the phone was designed. Problem is, it's not what people expected, so it gets called a defect. Got to love the internet sometimes....
I'm on my third G2 (not because of the hinge) and all of them have opened and closed exactly the same, regardless of part number.
Your phone will be fine, enjoy it. It's a great phone.
the hinge is fine, just use it the way its supposed to be used and you'll be okay.
Thank's yall, the worst part about this whole thing is that I had to get it shipped to my parents house in TN and I gotta wait for a friend of mine who is visiting the holy land on the 22nd to bring it to me.
my screen doesn't slide down, even though I prop the phone up at a 180 degree angle. I think I am one of the few lucky ones with a tight hinge. I've seen some vids where even at a 45 degree angel the screen slides back close.
I like things tight, and I'm glad I added this phone to my collection, along with my girlfriend.

Well played my good man.
It's one of those things where if you see the video on youtube and then go out of your way to hold the phone in that one way that will make it do this, then, yes, it closes/opens.
It's not a bug, HTC would tell you "FAD". No, not "F-off and die", "functions as designed"
In normal use I've never had any issues.
Including in bed during the marathon session of Angry birds or gameboid (advance wars!) when I should have been sleeping

Not an issue for me, but it can be an issue for those who use a holster. When pulling the phone out, you would have to make sure you grab both halves or it may slide open. You could lose your grip on the phone and drop it.
Basically, using a holster may force you to hold the phone in that youtube way. Meaning some people my experience it day to day in regular use.
I personally solved it the Steve Jobs way. I took the little black rubber band that is included around both the headset and usb cable and wrapped it over the trackpad. Boom.

there's actually a tear down guide on here about how to make the hinge tighter but it voids warranty and what not. I'd try it myself if I had a torx 6 screw driver.

I want to try this but my rubberband "trick" does me ok lol. I would love a tight hinge to get rid of my rubberband, but not quite enough to further void my warrenty. I already rooted and Romed, but that's reversible. Taking the phone apart isn't. I'm fully capable of accomplishing it though.

My cousin is a hipster who's always loved the iPhone since it first came out, 4 days ago he picked up the 4s and was bragging about how smooth it was. I showed him that my lumia was smoother and he started swiping back and forth on his screen as fast as he could. Right then, he gripped his phone and it shattered, that might be an understatement, it exploded. It was just a mess. I am an opportunist so at this point I said "something else my phone can do that yours can't." I then pitched my phone and then let it crash to the ground unscathed. He was in awe. I've been letting him play with my titan since and he keeps asking "think I can trade my phone for this?" its amazing how people react once they try WP7.

Either that, orrrrr it's not true in the slightest.
It doesn't take much to break the 4 or 4s. I probably see more people walking around with broken screens than with good ones. The ones with decent screens are often using otterboxes. When a phone's externals are mostly glass it's not hard to break.

Yup, my mates sons both hav iPhone 4 and both have shattered/ cracked backplanes and one has a chip in the glass on the front, should be said, they are both early 20's and party a lot and the phones are about 6 months old.
you can smash an iPhone 4 by looking at it the wrong way..
I hear Steve jobs built it so that if you don't look at it with complete love and adoration in your eyes it will self destruct

Without joking I also know some people who have a broken iphone screen because the phone only fell out of the pocket. So I always show them my OMNIA 7 where I never have put a screen protector. After 1 year of using the screen is still non-scratched...
Windows phone 7 is kinda awful though. I owned an HD7 for a couple weeks and it got old quick. The animations were annoying, I missed Google Apps (turn by turn nav was sweet!), really not interested in social networking, and the app selection is terrible. Also, I loved experimenting with all the roms that were available for Android.
If there is something that apple does right is, iTunes has a huge music selection, great app store, super smooth gaming performance, and great developers all around, and amazing responsiveness. Course, if he wants to trade a 4S for a Lumnia then I have a spare laying around here, tell him to call me up

to each their own, I just came from android and aside from games this phone is a much better experience.
It doesn't feel like it's shoddily pieced together by 100 random people, it is coherent and smooth.

Yep, would hate to have pro-Android sentiments on XDA, god forbid!
Anyway, When I was talking about iTunes I meant their music selection and the content, I do agree that iTunes is a terrible piece of software though! One of the big reasons I stopped using them.
it doesnt matter how many times an iphone user will drop his phone break than buy a new one. They will still buy an iphone again so it will take a LONG time till we will be able to break the isouls but with android i have converted quite a few people.
The weirdest people on the planet are the people who want to convert you to their preferred mobile operating system. I don't even know what I would do if someone tried to convert me by dropping their phone on the floor - run away screaming, perhaps.
I have an iPhone and a Samsung Focus S. If I drop either one of them, they'll break. Near as I can tell, Apple, Microsoft and even Google have yet to defeat gravity with their current offerings.

Having dropped my HTC 7 Pro a good few times now, the sum total of damage are a couple of paintchips, and the h on the back has gone missing. In summary, the same as my HTC Legend.
It isn't difficult to make a phone that can survive being dropped. The iPhone 4/4s is just incredibly fragile. I have made a small fortune out of replacing the glass on my friends shattered iPhones - HTC have made a few quid too.

I dropped my HTC 7 Mozart on purpose a couple of times to demonstrate how solid it is. It has a few scuffs on the metal case, but the screen remains flawless and the device itself works fine. The only issue I had when dropping the phone was the fact that the battery cover flew off every time and the battery slid out
Awesome story!!!
Does anyone else notice that the front camera is off. Turn the front facing camera on, do you notice you have to hold your phone off centered just to get your face in the middle?
yeah, i find that kinda annoying as well. poor design choice especially for face unlock.
You make it sound that its hugely off centered
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I would rather they centered the camera above the screen and located the ear speaker off to the side. Then I could look like the world's biggest dork when making a call.
I just tried this for the first time....I'm convinced people like searching for things to annoy them. I had to hold the phone at the ever so slightest angle if I wanted my face perfectly aligned, even if I didn't it wasn't like I was that far off center.
This forum is funny, though it's no different than the iPhone forums. They do the same **** over there, literally dig for things to complain about. Just an observation as an iPhone and Android user.
Is therea phone with center from cam? Most if not all front cams are located off center.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I find this quite annoying too. How hard is it to get the camera to point straight ahead?!
My iPhone 4 camera is off center, but it centers the face fine. Again, still not a big deal to me as the Nexus isn't that far off center. It works just fine for me and I have another phone that is perfectly centered and it still doesn't bother me.
This drives me crazy too. I thought it to be a manufacturing defect, and will still look into it with Google and Samsung. Don't really understand how they couldn't angle the camera inside the body slightly so that it looks at you when its right in front of you. Just seems weird to point the phone down and to the left a bit to get my face in there, or at my neck when I'm holding it horizontally.
Wow, really? People will find ANYTHING to complain about.
"OH NOEZ!!1 I HAZ TO MOVE DA FONE A BIT TO BE CENTERED!1!1"
Please.

Well then concentrate on your studying and your girlfriend rather than on the angle of a front facing camera on a phone.
Seriously, just enjoy your life and don't worry about the camera.
Turning the phone at a slight angle isn't that big of a deal.
Go get an iphone. They are always center, bah bah.

Well your post at the top of this page says "for all of you who think this isn't a big deal" (paraphrased) so thereby insinuating that it is a big deal.
To conclude I would like to say this: na na na boo boo, stick your head in doo doo.

I've got a OPO 7pro, is this phone worth it as an upgrade? give me your honest opinion please
I have been using it 3 days. So far it's great but I am worried about what will happen between now and the time I get the case I ordered. I will report the condition of the device after a little longer on a post here. The little screen is a productivity powerhouse, every app so far has worked with the exception of Chrome and Google Search oddly. I'm not sure why they don't want us doing those apps on it.
I'm personally happy with it. This is the first Android phone I've ever owned that I haven't felt the need to root. The small screen in particular is useful when I'm at work
I hope Motorola keeps a regular nearly-Pixel update schedule with this thing

Man I hope it gets at least one major OS update but they seem dedicated to foldables so... who knows...
Another week on with this thing and I am still very impressed. The screen hasn't changed in terms of the bumps and still looks great. I keep this in a jeans pocket and so far the hinge hasn't attracted lint. The small screen has been amazing and discreet.
I have taken up playing Pokemon Crystal on the small outer screen. You can offset the controls to one side and play one handed. I feel like a kid again playing on such a small compact device. I have also found that Among Us works on the screen with no issues but might be too hard to see for some.
So far so good!
Oh, and I ordered a case for it but isn't coming for another couple weeks.. I can't find any decently prices case for this in the US.

I'm waiting for Spigen to come through
Yeah, price tag is what it is and it took me a while to decide to buy it however, I've bought it.
Wanted badly to try the OPPO Find N2 but is basically impossible to find it Italy.
My Flip3 obviously went to my gf .
First impression is very good.
Got the 256gb version which are more than enough to me.
Front screen is awesome, I can now type with one hand. Inner display is awesome to use with two hands.
Phone however has a strange form factor and getting used to that is not easy also it's heavy and, with both the spigen covers I've bought, it looks like a brick. Not a problem, I like bricks.
Camera didn't impressed me at all to be honest. Also I've already faced some resolution problems with a game ( League of Kingdoms ) which I play all day long basically but it only happens on the inner screen.
Never stand reading books on phone but I think this one will make me change my mind. Also drawing on it is awesome.
This told, do you have any suggestions like apps and accessories for this brick?
Look up good lock that will give you some more little perks for some more little tweeks I had the og fold and liked it ill get another fold at some point though
posted this in another thread, thought you might find it useful

Try naked or aramid/leather case. It's a lot more durable than you think! Most things that would do it in will render any other flagship into a pile of broken glass any way you look at it!
The camera is fine for what it is, typical Samsung processing keeping results within its limits unlike the S22 ultra that pushes sharpening to the extreme. ;-) The only thing I miss is the long zoom but the 30X stretch still works for sign reading when needed.
samsung original case with flip back to make it a tablet stand... is a perfect choice for me.
