First of all, thanks to everyone who helps makes this forum so great. I visit a lot of forums for various things, but this is one of the best!
Anyhow, I've been a Dash user since Nov 2006. Although the WM5 that was shipping at the time leaved a bit to be desired, the form factor of these phones really impressed me. In fact, I've seen a lot of newer WM phones that are still nowhere near as good as the Dash! The WM6 upgrade was a good one, but these phones really hit their stride with the WM6.1 release(s) -- found at this site, of course. I eventually even blogged my own "upgrade your Dash to WM6.1" post, which has been fairly popular. In December 2008, though, I decided to move on the G1 phone... assuming that newer was better.
Boy was I wrong.
I won't get into all of the details, but after 2 months with the G1, I was finding that many *simple* things were considerably more difficult on the G1 than on the Dash.
I decided to give the Dash a look-see again.
So, I'm back in "Dash"-land using the Rose 1.4 ROM. Wow! I am really amazed at how "out of the box" useful these new ROMs are!! Especially compared to the stock T-Mobile WM6 ROMs, which leave these phones feeling ugly and less useful. The keyboard was immediately wayyyy better than the G1, and I'm back to being able to call people with 2 or 3 clicks, rather than 6 or 7. Aside from the browser interface, I'm really not missing the G1 at all.
A few questions, though...
- My Rose 1.4 ROM has some very nice, colorful icons for the wireless signal, battery, bluetooth and so forth, but they go away when I'm on other screens. Is that typical? Anyway to have the "improved" icons show up everywhere??
- My previous WM6.1 ROM had poor radio reception, for whatever reason, and this ROM is much nicer. Is it expected that some ROMs ship with a better radio module than others?
- I've always turned the JOGGR off due to face-bumping-the-volume up and down issues, but this ROM has helped that a bit. Nice! Is there any way, though, to assign the up-and-down volume control (while in a call) to the up-and-down D-pad? Seems an obvious choice to me.
- Are there any replacements for the stock camera software on these phones? The interface drives me crazy.
- Is it possible to turn off the default "beep" sound when you place a phone call?
- I've noticed that I only hear the phone ring twice or so before it goes to voicemail, but I was used to hearing 3 or 4 rings. Any way to change that?
Ok. That's all I have for now, I guess.
Thanks!

- The improved icons are only going to show on the homescreen. The other icons are part of system dll's and have to be edited "in" before they'll show up. I don't think anybody's attempted to skin those on a smartphone yet, but *I* will try soon.
- The ROM doesn't include a radio.... it's either your wishful thinking, or... you just get better reception somehow.
- Don't know of a way to assign the dpad to change the volume. I'm sure it would require some custom programming which is.. above my head
- Don't think there's any camera shell replacements. Sorry...
- Look for a registry key called "Callstart" (in the registry! lol) and remove the associated .wav or .mid in that key
- There might be a "ringdelay" key in the registry. If you find one, set it to 5 to remove the delay. If not, try going into the Phone settings and somewhere in there in "services" you should be able set how many times it rings before it goes to voicemail. This is really an "operator setting", but you can try to change it this way.

What ?!? You're telling him to turn down the volume to get rid of the sound ?
Thanks for the reply, NRG! I really dig your 1.4 ROM. Thx!
Anyhow, I got the "radio" idea from the NRG 1.7 ROM page, as they mention a newer "radio" code. Not true?

Let me start by saying that Ive been creeping in the corners of these forums for a bit, and frankly, you guys are AMAZING. I purchased an ATT 8525 in June, and Id be lying if I didn't say reading these forums has solved about 90% of my issues. Needless to say, now I'm starting to feel brave... Ive read the wiki, Ive tried googling, I need some help.
(Please, if this IS somewhere, just point me in that direction, Ive gotten by OK with no direct interference)
Im starting to feel brave enough to tweak registry and change ROMS, even tried a couple here on the forums... but I don't seem to have any luck finding what Im looking for, and I was COMPLETELY puzzled by self cooking.
Heres what I'm looking for...
BAREBONES WM6. (I don't want ANY of what ships with WM6 besides the phone functions (Camera, Calender, Text, Phone, WiFi) Even the default sounds, I want all gone, I realize I can delete afterwards if needed. I used XDASUPPER_CLEAN3 And I can say its VERY close, It just did a few things Im not so happy with, primarily added a Video call button to my dialer (Which I wont use) and showed me connect to the UMTS ATT&T Network or showing No connection to network, but still dialing out. I live in Vegas, 3G is everywhere, what SHOULD I be connecting to? And it added an awkward white triangle to the very top of my today screen,
I also don't use the outlook features of the phone, So I want to remove all traces of EMAIL From the device. (Not sure if a reg tweak exists for this or what?)
The long and short of it. I use my ATT 8525 for
Text/Picture Messaging
Picture Taking
Scheduling with Calender
Contact Storage
Beaming Data
Silly Games
And a phone (w blue tooth headset)
Off the top of my head at 230 that sounds like everything, anything on the device that isn't related to those is wasted space.... Please any advice or help would be GREATLY appreciated.
ROM's
Check out K's Rom..I use it and it's pretty sick. Read the description and see if it suits your needs. Some functions have been disabled and others tweaked..to include Expanded memory. It also includes some helpful tools.
Also, the use of Ftouchflo is highly recommended.
Hope this helps some.
Cheers.....

Have to agree with this one. The fastest WM6 ROM around at the moment.
I use Pandora's Build it YOUR way setup. I can customize what is installed and what's not.
Update 12/31 Naked Base Pandora Kitchen - Build it YOUR way - 3.60/3.61/3.62.2/3.62.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316881
MUCH Thanks
Alright folks, it looks like you've hit me with some great suggestions! Im currently using Pandora Naked. Just a few things, I couldnt get Pandora 6 to flash at all, but Pandora 5 went on without a hitch. I cant seem to figure out WHAT is different about the installation. But I dont see any notes on what features may or may not be different between the two roms themselves...
Also, I ran into a situation where I could not for the life of me get Pandora YOUR way to cooperate on installing the rom, I realize Naked + and add ons I want is an alternative, but still Unsure on what causes the installation to give me a "Corrupt Image" error.
One other SMALL item, is that strange white triangle at the top of the today screen, I cant figure out what it is, where it came from, or how to get rid of it. Beyond that, all is fantastic! Thanks again everyone!
that strange white triangle is the roaming indicator. Mostly it indicates you are off your home network.
Sometimes you will get it if you flash a rom from a network thats not your own.
I have seen a few other posts about people with it stuck on. Try doing a search
I really do appreciate the efforts of all those people working hard to make our Diamonds better. Here I'd like to post a list of things we could suggest to them. Even if we don't know anything about rom cooking or progamming, we could post our hopes and maybe chefs could get good ideas for their future works.
My personal wishlist is
- using touch-sensing ring for up/down/left/right moves
- tilting left/right to switch Touch Flo 3D tabs and for back/forward in Opera browser
- haptic feedback when using virtual keyboards
- adjustable keypad light timeout
ps sorry for bad english
It would be fine if someone figures out the problem with the static navigation mode
of the GPS chipset! Before the Diamond I owned a Trinity, which had also an Qualcom chipset, but worked rather perfect without any noticable lag...
I've tried almost every well known navigation programs, but they all lag like hell.
Reception although is very impressive, I always get a fix in a few seconds!

you really want your TF3D to switch tabs every time you accidentally move your hand? i can't imagine anything more annoying.. haha
Think one of the most important is getting a 'today agenda' underneath the TFLO3D homescreen ...
So when swiping the clock upwards, a very rich agenda can be seen.
And changing/removing/reordering TFLO3D tabs
Put HOME in the middle
I think what massimax asked for is really great, these are the thing we need. Chefs seriously try to do these please.

I second that. It'd really be wonderful if somebody could figure it out, the lags

also, on my old E6, i was able to hold the answer key to enable max brightness...
and hold it again to return it to original
is there any way i can do this, is there a program for keymapping for this or will this need to be put into the rom
the reason i ask for this option is that max brightness makes sunlight legibility much better...
Why not make your own rom with these things done. It's a bit much just making a thread of requests, the cooks are all normal guys with jobs and families or whatever like the rest of us, they work out fixes and make ROM's faster, but making a list of things for cooks to do isn't right in my opinion.

I guess a real user friendly ROM kitchen would make so much more possible from the people on these forums. At this moment many are still trying to figure out just how to cook your own ROM...
I was looking for some sort of a solution of this with no luck, any tips welcome.
Basically what I was looking for was an app or a tweak which would show TASKS on the lock screen (the screen when phone is locked and you have to use for example a slider (Miri rom) to open it) since there is so much empty space and there is no reasonable way to put the tasks on Today screen.
Any ideas and tips very much appreciated.
hmm, i think S2U2 is capable of doing this. it is a free screen locking application.
according to the changelog here:
http://htcwinmobile.blogspot.com/2009/06/acs-s2u2-v201.html
it is capable of doing it, but i've just had a quick look in the applications settings (i have it installed) and can't seem to find the option, but it would be worth a try
S2U2 does show tasks icon the lock screen but it is only a figure(how many tasks are scheduled). If you use the appointments these will show as full descriptions, until completed, and you can have up to 7 appointments over a number of weeks (I think its about 4 weeks).Really good and I have no problems on Duttys Rom 6.5 R11
thanks for the handy pointers, will give it a try.
hmm, so I've tried that and I'm not very impressed. I'm not particularly keen on the whole S2U2, seems a bit cumbersome and overall like an "i" wannabe... there is somewhat the option of displaying the tasks on the lockscreen but as far as I'm concerned there is no way of removing the whole S2U2 interface and keeping just the tasks..which is, ultimately, what I'd want.
Thanks for the tip anyway but don't think this is gonna work.
Can't believe I'm the only one trying to get this sorted(!), it is such a fundamental thing to see tasks frequently without having to access something..even my old N95 did that right.
Anyway, if anyone knew about something, give us a shout.
Cheers
Z.
For years (!) I wanted to have my tasks on todayscreen (and/or on lock screen). I never understood why this was possible only on oldschool-WinMobile-todayscreen WITH special programs (SPB Diary). I believe it's a BASIC feature - and like you I asked myself if really noone needs this?
After getting my new Touch HD I love to have a stylish todayscreen - but I hate not to see appointments/tasks (neither with manila nor winmobile 6.5-today).
So if there is ANY solution: YES I want it too!
I could have probably lived with S2U2 as long as the tasks would be at least showing by themselves rather than you having to press & hold on the icon
...that's like as close it gets to the desired result...future s2u2 update might fix that but again, you have to get the whole app (for locking) to get this small, though very important feature... kinda disappointing...
I`d also like having task on today or lock screen as old non colour Windows CE devices did. Why had disappeared? I don´t know and I can´t understand. I hope somebody can help us.
I want it too please. I would like something like Lockinfo for the iphone.
Okay so for Christmas I got the HTC Tilt 2 with WM6.5 on the AT&T network. Its a great phone but I want to make it better. Through some google searches and what not I found this site and knew i had to join anyway....
Okay so one think I am desperately looking for is a flash player, mainly so I can watch youtube videos. I tried Adobe Flash Lite but it didnt work and the youtube mobile app didn't work either. So anyway know of any good flash player?
Another thing is this is my first smart phone my last phone (some samsung thing) could barely call and text people so im still learning the ropes with this thing and have therefore never edited anything on my phone. So a basic description of like what exactly a ROM is and Flashing a ROM. Also is a skin for TF3D just a skin or is it like I guess what you call a ROM? Then the Radio I am almost sure when it says "Flash a Radio" its not talking about the FM AM kind is it?
Also I have seen some pretty sweet skins but I dont plan on changing my skin every week so I am looking for just an amazing skin! So if you know any sleek, modern, colorful, simplistic, clean skins a quick link would be great!
Bah! While I am asking all these questions can someone please explain why the HTC Tilt 2 (or any HTC phone for that matter) fall under the "Rhodium" category and what relation does it have to the phone.
Again just trying to familiarize myself with what I am doing before i do this so called "Flashing".
Also any basic info that may help a person like me.
Again thanks in advanced for the help looking forward to being more part of this community!
Congrats on getting the device. You'll either love it or hate it...
Re: Flash player
The new Pocket IE browser supports built in flash. I recall there's another browser that does as well, but I can't remember. Skyfire? Someone else should be able to come up with the name...
Re: definition of ROM and Radio
Suggest you to read about them in the wiki. ROM is your device's firmware. Radio is the software that controls your cellular reception and GPS.
Skin for TF3D does not equal ROM. Essentially it's a theme. Before installing themes, make sure the theme is made for your version of manila. But if it's a cab file, you can simply uninstall to reverse any changes.
Re: the name of your device
The Tilt2 is the same as HTC Touch Pro2. Rhodium is HTC's code name for this family of devices. The "Tilt" name is just AT&T's branding.

So, I got this phone back in September. This was also my first smartphone. I read and read through all the tutorials here on ROMs, radios, flashing, and registry tweaks. The answers to the majority of your questions are in the FAQs/XDA-Wiki.
HTC YouTube App: I think there's a fix available here on XDA. I think itt has something to do with editting the connection settings. You might want to search for that using the search function of the forum.
ROM (flashing): think of it as like upgrading your PC from XP to Vista or Vista to 7.
TF3D (aka Manila or Sense): a UI (user interface) it's sort of a skin on top of Windows Mobile. Since WM is old and appearance hasn't improved that much, HTC implemented this UI to cover up some flaws of WM.
Radio-ROM: No, that's not the FM Radio. It's a software thing that handles the phone capabilities of the phone (the Tilt2 is a PDA/phone).
(Changing) Themes: There's a lot of themes out there to suit our personalities! Go look! Besides, when you get addicted to flashing, you'll get used to changing things and setting things up over and over again!
Rhodium: (I just completed a Chemistry course; I never knew this was an element on the Periodic Table!) HTC code name of the Touch Pro2 and Tilt2.
Feel free to PM me if you need any help. Like I said, it's also my first smartphone, and I would have to say I learned a lot since I first got it (pretty recently). So I would know what you're experiencing right now.

Yes, Skyfire has full flash support and is very fast because everything goes through SkyfireLab servers. However, video playback quality will be horrible (especially YouTube!).
I just remembered, if you go to m.youtube.com in Opera Mobile Browser and you press on a video, the video will play in the HTC Video Player. So, it's not really playing in the browser; it's like you're downloading the video into your Tilt2.
Ah ok cool. Yea I have skyfire I forgot it did flash but the resolution is a bit fuzzy. Pretty sure I will love it just as soon as I figure out what in the world im doing! Since I love customizing and tweaking things which is the main reason I didnt go with an iPhone that and the full QWERTY keyboard.
I guess I shall read the wiki/faq
Welcome to forums
You had a great gift for Xmas!!
I assume you still have the stock ROM, which I personally think it´s crap...
I would recommend to install a cooked ROM from this great site!
Onalmost any cooked ROM you have the youtube app so you can see videos
Have a deep read on the Rhodium Wiki so you start to familiarize with all that you can do
Good luck and don´t forget to vote!
Yea love the phone but yes I still have the Stock ROM (hey I know what I am talking about now!) yes it is crap. Not liking the fact that it constantly stays at 74% RAM.
Oh you just reminded me abotu another question of mine.
How do I get rid of all the freakin trail ware that came pre-loaded on this phone! I think I read in multiple places most good ROMS should get rid of that.

LOL I think every ROM here gets rid of that crapware!
Ok good because it keeps me up at night just knowing that its on my phone >
Ok cool just read the Wiki found a list of ROMs that look great > just 2 possible more questions
1) Ok so it says I should back up my phone completely before flashing which makes sense. But to where? I have my conacts and stuff on Microsoft MyPhone but Im pretty sure my apps and everything else isnt on there. Do i Just copy all the phones files and paste them somewhere on my computer?
2) Just incase something goes horribly wrong is there a Hard Reset on the phone that No matter what the phone will go back to factory reset. Even after flashing?
There is a YouTube app included on the Tilt 2. It is hidden from the Start Menu by default. If you open File Manager and browse to the Windows directory, you will find YouTube there. Once you launch it for the first time, it should also be referenced in the Start Menu, or at least in the "All Programs" list option in the TF3D Programs tab. If not, you can easily COPY the youtube.lnk file from the Windows directory to Windows\Start Meny\Programs and it will show up.
The app is clean and tight, and supports the native controls of the phone (eg, the volume rocker controls volume).
I cant seem to find it I browsed the programs list and there was no YouTube Program unless its called something else.
Anyway as posted abotu still have 2 questions:

1. If you have the .cabs of your apps, save them onto your PC (I have a designated folder for all my cabs, worth over 400MB!). After you flash, you're going to have to re-install them (automatically or manually, depending on if you use Sashimi, Sprite, Seven, or UC_setup [UC is only possible if it is supported by the ROM]).
2. If you flashed, your stock ROM has been overwritten, so if you hard reset, it will flash to the factory defaults that is in the flashed ROM. To go back to stock, you will need to flash back to the stock ROM, which you should find in the link posted in the above post.
Oh ok thanks for all the answers appriciate it I think I might do it this weekend if i get the time.
First off, welcome.
Next before you do ANYTHING read then re-read any and all wiki's and tutorials on the Rhodium. Learn your device inside and out FIRST before attempting to make tweaks or rom changes. If you don't read then re-read, your Christmas present can become a pretty paperweight -aka- bricking your device.
pIE and Skyfire both have Flash capabilities.
The Rhodium IS cpabale of being used as a radio, but you need to install the right cab file...again read.
That being said, a radio usually refers to the part of the phone that receives a signal so you can use it as a phone. Don't mess with THAT radio until you have read and re-read the wiki's and tutorials.
Flashing a rom means to change your operating system to a "cooked" one...one made using a windows mobile base, but specially tweaked by someone here at xda. These cooked roms cannot be flashed without first unlocking your phone. Again READ or you can brick it. Also know that flashing a cooked rom has the potential to void any warranty you have...so back up your stock rom before attempting a rom flash. It is also good to have this back up in the event that you don't like a cooked rom you have installed.
There is a great thread that lists cab files to some really good applications, which will customize your device even more. You can also create your own ringtones, and tweak the device. Again, before any major installations or registry tweaks I strongly urge you to learn all you can first, by reading the wiki's and tutorials.
I have been with xda since my wizard came out a few years ago, and I have seen far too many eager "noobs" brick their devices.
I have only had my rhodium for a month. I am still learning my device. I still have a stock rom because I am not yet comfortable with my knowledge of the Rhodium. The stock rom blows by comparison to the cooked roms, but until I am comfortable with my device, I am happy to remain stock until I learn all I need to.
Once you learn your device, you will need to join Flashers Anonymous...because like most of us here, our phones become really fun toys with pretty much unlimited possiblities...so again, welcome...and read, read, read.
I haven't figured out how to do anything except insert the battery and sim but WOW .. My totally honest first impression is maybe I like it as well or better than my iphone .. That is saying A LOT !!!
If you like it already, just wait until you figure out how to turn it on!
And of course when you start flashing ROMS and so forth...
It is better than the iPhone yes, but it is an entirely different beast. Don't expect it to run perfectly stock. If you spend a little time hacking it you can get it to run almost exactly how you'd like it to.
And really, isn't hacking half the fun of owning a WinMo phone? I think so. Even after I have my phone set up perfectly on one ROM, the urge to reflash is so strong that I can only hold out for a month, maybe two at most, until I start all over again. Yay.
congrats! Once you start figuring your way around the phone be sure to visit this thread full of great apps:

If you have any questions you know who to call ghostbusters!
enjoy your new phone
That thread that burton gave you is definitely the best place to start, to learn about all sorts of things you can do with and to your new fav gadget.
Installing apps and tweaks to your phone is usually a simple matter of obtaining a .cab file for whatever you want to install, copy the .cab to your phone (to a file on the SD card is best, so you can leave them there for future re-use), and clicking on the .cab to run it. Once you're comfortable doing that, I would highly recommend running the two cabs I've attached here, they're a good idea for any new TP2 owner; they improve the native memory management in the phone, and free up memory much better once apps are done using it, and they'll go a long way towards making your whole experience better (without them, your memory use will keep creeping up on you until you reset).

You are so right. I have the HTC Shift pretty much since it came to the USA .. I bought one - unleashed FULL WinMo .. sold it .. then missed it and bought another. I have Full WinMo and Phone on it .. I think all I need is blue-tooth on the WinMo side and for WinMo to recognize a memory card. Pretty sure neither of those hacks have been worked out. I can wait!!
PS .. thanks for the link and the files as well .. First thing I am going to do is sync my contacts .. then PLAY ..
Well the Shift is an even more different beast. That thing really is a mini-computer. Not sure how great of a phone it would make.
Anyone know if HTC is planning on coming out with a successor to the Shift?
The shift is for sure a computer. I have Win7 on it and WinMo 6 I think .. There is no bluetooth on the phone side so voice comes out of the speaker. If you held it up to your head it would look ridiculous.
Still ... it is nice to have a phone in it, only because you can
Miss my iphone desktop - Home Screen
I think I have been using my iphone too long because I am having a horrible time figuring out a design I like. I miss my iphone desktop.
If you haven't already, try out SPB mobile shell. It gives a very customizable interface w/ widgets.
I think I have that App .. I will first look on my computer for it . thanks. The thing that I find annoying that I haven't figured out is when I click on the phone to make a call. It opens half keypad half contacts. No "hard" buttons to scroll up and down through the contact list. .. correct ??

That is partialy correct. It actually brings up your call log. To pull up a number from your contacts just start typing on the keypads (either the number i.e 818 555 1234 or the name ie. Dad = 323). You can also click the all contacts button and go to a pure list of contacts, which you can then scroll through with the touch screen.
