Has anyone had any difficulties with any of the software for upgrading ROMs and all the other programs while using Windows 7? I've read a few people had no problems, but am unsure if there is anything additional that should be done. I don't want to brick my phone the first time b/c I am using a different OS. Thanks!
I just did, with build 7022
It worked fine
on my pc to the 7 is fantastic...
I just Dont cook roms ;(
I really appreciate the assurance everyone. I've had a few compatibility issues w/ Windows 7 and devices (XNA stuff), but besides that, Windows 7 has been phenomenal. I didn't want change my mind about W7 due to an expensive paperweight.
Upgrade WORKS Win 7 7000 and 7022 X32
Upgrade WORKS Win 7 7000 and 7022 X32
Windows7 is very stable and it has no issues for upgrading
Upgrading and syncing with outlook ok with windows 7
Windows update installed mobile device center automatically
Windows 7 has Device Stage built in to sync with phones etc, but no HTC phones are yet supported. so have to use Windows Mobile Device Center the same as Vista
Windows 7
I have the latest Windows 7 beta 64 bit. On my Diamond I unticked "Enable advanced network functionality" in Start - Settings - Connections - USB to PC first. Then ensure your phones ActiveSync is enabled.
If activesync works (if you can sync or view files on your Touch Diamond on your PC) then any upgrade you do will work fine.
Another tip. When connecting your phone to Windows 7 go to Windows update and download and install any Windows Mobile updates, and turn off any screensavers/power options just in case.
I have changed many ROMS using Windows 7 64 bit and have not had any problems.
Just remember to follow instructions on updating your diamond with cooked roms properly, esp the part about hardspl's.
You will see the threads at the beginning of the diamond ROM forum.
Good luck

I've had the problem -> now SOLVED
I had never been able to sync my phone with my PC after upgrading from Vista Ultimate to W7. WMDC always crashes when I try to connect with the PC. I soft reset the phone (upgraded rom actually), tried with the cable, tried bluetooth sync unpaired and paired again, nothing worked.
Then after some googling I did below:
uninstalled WMDC and driver update that are remnants from Vista
connected phone with a cable to the PC and from the device manager removed the phone from PC
rebooted windows
installed the latest WMDC from microsoft
and voile! it works !!!
I think my problem was not clean installing W7 but other than the sync problem, W7 looks promising.

Hi guys!
I'm on the Beta testers Group from the new Windows 7, and the problem that I have, is that my HD won't be recognized by my PC ever since I've upgraded from Vista.
The error message that it shows is that "Mobile Device Center stopped responding" and then it gets shut down.
I tried restarting my PC several times, even my phone, but I'm still unable to synch them together...
Toughts?
Hey, had the same problem. You have to remore the software (mobile device center) and reinstall it from windows.com you can find the software easy with google I've spend hours with that little problem now it works fine =)
Check your network, ensure your PC could connect to Internet and allowed to update Windows. I got the same problem when I install Mobile Device Center on my company's network, and when I install it from my home network, it run without any problems. MDC is compatible with Windows 7, it run smoothly. I up rom for my HD 3 times since I use Windows 7. Good luck.
Reinstall shoud solve the problem. Which build of windows 7 are you using? I´m on build 7022 and never had a problem with the mdc.

how odd, i too am on this beta testing and running an almost functional 64bit version, and WMDC is working fine for me, this was of course a fresh install and when installing WMDC i used the compatability settings for vista, perhaps that was the trick for it working on mine.

Ok than you are runing on build 7034 or 7032 right? I´m a professional software developer but I don´t want to say here at this forum for who I´m working for.
The only problem I have on my windows 7 build 7022 is that the compatibility mode isn´t working but I haven´t found a solution for it yet.
So is there a error message when you try to run it? Or a error hex-code?
Here you can see mdc on my 7022 build:

Strange!
I'm running Seven 7000 with no syncro/MDC issues.
Untill today, i've already tested 4 or 5 different ROMs with no problem at all.
Should be a device/driver/compatibility problem as I have no one...
Had a similar issue at first, but since a reinstall of win7 everything has been ok and its been a good month or 2 now without any problems.
For the record I also upgraded from vista, a full rebuild did solve the problem.
now syncing on 2 win7 machines x64 on desktop and x86 on netbook.
Hello together
I developed an "USB Storage Enabler" Tool for Windows phone 7, so you can easy enable or disable the WP7 USB functionality.
You need to have Zune installed and one device connected for least one time.
To enter the USB Storage you'll close Zune.
Now you can use your phone like a simple USB Stick
This tool requires .NET 2.0.

Oh,... try to run this tool as an administrator. (maybe UAC or somethings is blocking some registry functions)
i run it standard, without admin.
ps. i have chevron hack + NoDo updated + all wp7 developer programs
AND it woks fine! DANKE!
I have NoDo + Locked + WP7 Tools + UAC disabled.
Mhm,... I'll try this on another machine.
danke!!! Thanks!!! that's the tool we were waiting for!!!! you're the man!
Works great with my (locked) HTC Arrive.
Works great with my unlocked HTC 7 Pro(Win XP,Win 7)
Works with Omnia 7 but I am seeing two icons for portable devices in my computer... Can you look into this?
Phone is on NoDo with C7 unlock and Samsung tools to prevent relocking.
It enables all found zune devices. If you've flashed your phone to a new version the "old one" (=zune device registration) is still stored in the registry. Ignore them :]
Works fine with Win 7 and HD7 after starting with admin rights...cool !!!

Basically installing windows 7 drivers on windows 8
Because when u install HTC sync their r no specific drivers for windows 8 so the driver folder is empty
1. jump on a windows 7 computer 32 or 64 bit the same as the windows 8 computer
2. download this the htc drivers HTCDriver install them
3. go to C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Driver copy the files and put them on the windows 8 computer
4. windows key + r to open the device manager then look under the other devices right click htc than update driver
5. click browse my computer for driver software then browser and find the drivers from the windows 7 computer
6. it well install and work fine

You can download HTC Sync Manager from http://www.htc.com/uk/software/htc-sync-manager/#download which can be installed on Windows 8 (although it may not run properly!).
This will install the correct HTC Drivers (32 or 64 bit) v3.0.0.023 which are later than the driver above.
If you don't require Sync Manager then that can be uninstalled afterwards without uninstalling the drivers.

Maybe because HTC updated HTC Sync and Sync Manager last month and they included drivers that work on windows 8
HTC updated the installer and the Sync Manager, but it is not working.
During the installation, the installer is giving an error message, that the driver package can not be installed and it is asking, that we would like to continue with installation of sync manager... So, the 1.1.48 version is wrong.
But I found a workaround: You have to install first the older sync manager: 1.0.42.2 and then you have to update it to the newest 1.1.48.
The old version will install a HTC Driver version 3.0.0.024. During the update the error message appear, but you have already installed the drivers, so you can continue. With that workaround I have working the tethering and the sync maneger too.
Regards,
Herold
I am having issue connecting to PC (on XP here but also issues on Vista 64 at home). No matter what I try I can't access storage to copy to/from my PC to my phone. I understand that JB now uses MTP rather than USB Storage, but having spent about three hours now trying to find a solution I have to admit I am completely stumped
Having tried many options without success, and having installed and uninstalled HTC Sync at least six times I have started again from scratch reinstalling everything I could think of which might have a bearing. I have just reinstalled the full SDK, installed Windows Media Player 11 (for MTP), reinstalled .NET 4, installed latest version of HTC Sync, but still when I connect I get an error in device manager with Other Devices>Android Phone (also get the Hardware Wizard popup which always ends up saying not installed/could not locate software even if pointed directly at the Google USB driver folder in the SDK so it's obviously not this), and in HTC Sync it always shows no device connected. Fastboot and ADB both see it (devices). If I disable USB Debugging then it is recognised as an MTP device but then the Android Phone error kicks in and Sync doesn't see it.
This is my issue:

On the Android device in device manager right click then uninstall, tick delete drivers if the tick box is there (sometimes it isnt)
Keep doing that until it doesn't even say android device (it will keep reinstalling it) it should say unknown device or something similar. Then reinstall the htc driver software and try again
Windows buggers up like this sometimes, has several drivers for the same thing, AFAIK its a case of getting rid of all the "spares" and installing just the one driver
Hope this helps

So I installed Win 10 TP on my other computer, plugged in the phone after using those drivers and it worked perfectly fine.
So that being said, what could be causing the issue on this build because i did a new install of win 10 on it today.

I had originally installed Windows 10 TP via a USB drive on a USB 3.0 port. At first that seemed to be what caused my issue along with various other random issues. Installing Build 9860 via a USB 2.0 port has since fixed my driver signing issues with HTC. However, the phone/computer connection is still finicky and sometimes requires a few reboots or re-installing the drivers to get it working. I chalk that up to the technical preview being alpha.
Mine works on Windows 10 Technical Preview. I had to plug the device in two separate times. One time when it was fully booted to install drivers and then I had to plug it in in fastboot mode to install drivers needed for ADB to work properly or it would not recognize the device.
can you take snapshot for that coz I didn't get it yet ... it's been a wile trying to do it .... PLZ need help ??
Has anyone been successful with getting it to run on Windows 10?
