I'm receiving the iplayer OK. Well, the pictures anyway! But the sound is a second or two delayed, and this makes the experience of watching iplayer somewhat uncomfortable.
Anyone got the same problem, and is there a cure?
You could try this:

May need WVGAFIX to make it fit the screen of your touch HD...

I'd be grateful if a few folk could try the attached (very short) video clip on the Desire and tell me if the video and audio are in sync - watch the drumsticks!
This clip does not play in sync on the HD2, but it is perfect on a PC or a Touch HD so there's no reason for it to play out of sync and there must be some sort of flaw with the HD2. It doesn't seem to matter what player is used. Someone suggested it might be a Snapdragon chipset issue, hence the reason for my posting in the Desire forum.
Please let me know how it plays on the Desire - thank you.

The video really isn't long enough for me to tell properly whether it is in sync completely, even when watching the drumsticks. You need something more substantial to properly notice whether it is out of sync, not something that ends in 6 seconds.
It does look out of sync to me but as has been said, it's not really long enough to be sure.
Thanks for having a look - I appreciate your responses.
If that first video was too short then how about the following? It's a direct download from YouTube, no conversion on my part. Again it plays fine on the PC but is slightly out of sync on the HD2. The audio delay is small, and probably less noticeable than the original video, but it's definitely there, at least on my HD2. If he was just talking and not playing the drums you wouldn't notice it.
So is this also slightly out of sync on the Desire? If so, this is looking like it could be a Snapdragon chipset issue.
Second clip totally out of sync on my desire, haven't looked at the first.
Seems video on these things is not good at all.
Guys, i have to say I'm really worried about this issue. I super problem for me and for the device itself. I strongly suspect it's Snapdragon. This is why:
I have a huge video collection, being an iPhone and iTunes user. I have tried many formats before but today I have an optimized one - the Handbrake "Universal" profile is marvelous. It looks great for TV (using AppleTV or iPhone out), great on portable devices and size is good not to take much space. I can use these files in ANY device: PC, Mac, iPhone (even 2G), PSP, PS3, Zune HD, HTC Hero etc and all can play just fine, no issues at all. Perfect. Even some iTunes videos non-protected is also playable - encoded by Apple, not me.
But on the Desire, all of them has video/audio out of sync. Some more than others, but all of them. And to prove it's not the files, ALL youtube videos have same issue. Want another proof?
I used same files and tests on the XPERIA X10, also Snapdragon. Guess what? Out of sync. I don't want to believe, but adding to HD2, we have 3 different phones, 3 different OS (Android 1.6 on X10, 2.1 on Desire), 2 different manufacturers, ONE common chipset -Snapdragon - same problem.
I sincerely hope HTC can fix this with a software update (even if they have to add audio offset to video playback, I don't care), or else it will be the biggest flaw I've seen in a PERFECT device - the Desire is everything I ever wanted an iPhone to be. But it needs to simply play videos
I sent an email to HTC telling this whole story, if there is a reply I'll post. Crossing fingers, because if I have to return this phone I'll cry.
I emailed HTC about this issue several days ago and still not had a response.
Just noticed http://www.htc.com/uk/support.aspx no longer has a link to contact support by email or phone which was there about 3 hours ago when I checked. http://www.htc.com/europe/support.aspx support link is still available, just not on the uk site, only on the europe one, my mistake.
I`ve had lip sync problems when converting via handbrake, I`ve also tried a few other programs for converting and the lip sync problem went away. Have you tried red kawa for example?
But yes its strange that its fine on a pc and not on the desire.
Just got a reply from HTC re video/audio sync issues, looks like they are saying there is no problem.
Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns.
In regards to video sync playback, we can help you with that.
We performed a test in our HTC desire and there is no fault while playing the videos. This could be a software issue or bug in the OS and we recommend to perform a hard reset on it(make sure to back up all your data before the reset) if this doesn't work then contact us and we will book in your device to be repaired. HTC Desire with snapdragon processor was highly tested to play videos or and other functions from the OS.
I hope that this resolves your query and thank you for contacting HTC.

Got the same issue on my HTC Legend. Tried a bunch of different encoders, encoding settings, video players and videofiles - no difference. There is also a strange effect - if you watch a video and then rewind back a bit, it kinda starts looking in sync
And it's exactly the same situation with the built-in YouTube app.
BTW, if I remember correctly, Legend doesn't have Snapdragon.
What about hard reset? Have you actually tried it? Anyway, please inform if you find a solution.
Xperia X10 Delay
When I playback video on my computer that was recorded on my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 (SO-01B), there is a delay between audio and video of approximately 7 frames worth of NTSC video (the audo is delayed). (Note, I converted the MP4 files to avi files to identify the delay, the delay was present in the original MP4 and the converted avi.)
Further, I cannot get any drum or piano app to play without a noticeable delay. The screen graphics reflect my finger taps, but the corresponding sound is not played through the speakers until a short delay has passed. Seems like the processor cannot keep up?
Similar issues getting the camera to start or switching between video and still cameras. Or stuttering when Timescape or MediaScape launch.
This is my second device from DoCoMo. It appears to be a hardware issue. Very frustrating.
Anyone else having similar issues? This forum is the first I've come across with anything remotely similar to the issues I have experienced.

2.2 brings the wonderful bbc iplayer something I use all the time. However I'm really disappointed with the quality, all the videos suffer from a really strong green tint, and noticeable blur, the same videos watched on an old iphone are far better in colour and detail when held at a normal viewing distance.
There also seems to be an issue with the videos failing to stop and playing in the background with no way to stop them.
Just tried it
I just tried it, too and I didn't see any odd colors. I just played about 2-3 minutes of "The Deep" which was the first video on the main page. The quality was okay for my 2Mb connection here, with only a tiny bit of stuttering at first. I think BBC adjusts your stream bitrate according to your connection. Try a different video, or a different connection to the internet.
The video does keep playing in the background if you press the back button. I think I pressed it three times before I heard the audio stop and I was looking at the main iPlayer page. I think this is on purpose, so you can browse other content or program listings without interrupting the video in progress. It's a little awkward to figure out, mostly because there is no keyboard or mouse. You just have to hit different buttons and see what happens.
My test was a side by side comparison - playing the same videos at the same time. The video on the old iphone is superior.
The video failing to stop was definitely a bug - I was at the iplayer page and could not select any other links and the browser was unresponsive with the audio still playing.
How is the Netflix playback on this unit? Does it have 1080p playback like the Nexus 7? Any sync issues with sound? Does it look great?
I'm asking this as I recently bought the Xperia Tablet Z and it has quite possibly the worst Netflix playback I've ever seen, especially for such a high end unit. My Nexus 7 or even my older IPad are miles better. It looks like I will be returning the Sony and perhaps ordering one of these.
Any other Netflix junkies here?

Cant get the sound and video to sync. Varies from right on, to half a sec lag or lead of sound throughout the movie. Very disappointing and annoying at the same time. Posted asking if anyone else had this issue but no replies...
This is true even after todays last OTA update. The video looks great - not sure about the resolution
I've had it intermittently. once when starting the office and then when playing Hatfield and McCoy's. exiting out each movie and restarting fixed it most of the time and other times just made it better but not perfect.the last two test just a few minutes ago played perfectly. I did install the latest ota yesterday so it could be that fixed it.
and for the op I can't say much about 1080p Netflix since I've lowered the stream in my prefs. my daughter plays Netflix all day and the highest throughput we can get out here is 6Mbps on a 150Gb limit. the week I gave my daughter her opacity a few Christmases ago she nearly used up all our bandwidth in 1 week!
1080p local videos are beautiful though!
I'm on the newest update and just tried The Avengers. Video quality is great (looks 1080 to me), sound syncs fine, but I did notice the video flickering a little within the first few minutes. Didn't appear for the rest of the movie.

Im also on the newest build, and i just added two movies avengers and transformers in HD to my queue, and played them and they seem to be working flawlessly, the sound is synced perfectly, no lag between movie and soundtrack. Quite pleased working better than the iPad. Lol
Can also verify - newest build. Netflix is working flawlessly. Extremely happy with the playback right now

After playing around with Netflix I realized that when I plug in the headphones (wired), the audio/video playback is flawless i.e. no sync issues. When I connect my Bluetooth stereo headset (LG tone) the I am having terrible audio/video sync problems. Don't know if it's a problem with this specific Bluetooth headset or a problem in general with the Bluetooth of the tablet. I will try other Bluetooth headsets to verify.
Im sorry if im reviving an old post but i need to know this ..
im about to buy this tablet and i love watching netflix.. Does the app Has HD playback ? Pleasee answer is the app working now?

This is a common issue with Bluetooth wireless speakers. I heard them talking about it on a Twit podcast recently. Try connecting via a wire and see if the problem goes away.

Every device I have lags on Bluetooth. You can't tell just playing audio (music) but with video the latency is apparent. The note works exactly the same.
Good to see this has good Netflix hope it's 1080p will be getting mines in a few days.
I bought a dknight magicbox Bluetooth speaker for my tab S 10.5. Podcasts and music streaming are fine, but streaming video with hbo go and max go I get audio lag and choppy video. Games are hopeless because of huge amount of dropped frames. Youtube is okay, though.
I thought hmm I guess that's why it costs $30 and not $50 or $100 like the other Bluetooth speakers. But I tried it on my iPad 3 with hbo and it is fine. I thought okay maybe the hbo app for android lags, so I tried it on my nook hd+ it is fine. Played fast and furious 6 very heavy action and no noticeable dropped frames.
The other thing is the tab cannot see my vizio 5.1 sound bar at all (does not show up after scan), but my other devices can see it just fine.
I've tried two different TW ROM and a cm12 ROM. Same result.
Anyone else has blue tooth issues like mine?
Oh yes I should say I am using 5Ghz Wi-Fi to avoid conflict with Bluetooth. That's not the problem.
The other thing I notice: I have touch sound enabled (tab plays a sound when you touch something on screen). Every time this happens, it causes the speaker to (beside playing the touch sound) make a humming / buzzing noise for like three seconds. doing the same thing on the nook hd+ does not produce the same noise. Do I think there is some kind of interference the tab is sending out to the speaker.
Anyone had an issue where the speakers have some popping, for me specifically when I'm watching videos that predominantly have just spoken dialogue. One example being the world of Warcraft Q n A from today on twitch. Another a video my company put out telling the company about upcoming events.
Speakers are 100% fine though with music and other videos and YouTube stuff though.
It also seems like this happens in mainly videos playing in chrome through the site instead of the app.
i have same issue on some vids and apps.... when this happens reduce your volume and popping will stop
Sometimes it's the source material/bitrate causing this.
The way it was recorded does not mesh with what's being used to play it back.
Find a high quality MP3 of voice and see if you're still popping.

And even the amount of gain that the sound files are encoded with.
Gain, I think that's actually what I was trying to think of as the primary suspect.
